Barela -- Frank R. Barela, 50, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, July 28, 2002. He is survived by his lifelong love, Debbie Black of Albuquerque; daughter, Antoinette Barela of Albuquerque; son, Marcus A. Barela of Albuquerque; stepchildren, Azalea Black of Albuquerque and Brittney Black of Albuquerque; brother, Jacob Barela, Jr. and wife, Lucy Encee of Albuquerque; sisters, Pauline Marquez and husband, David ofAlbuquerque, Dolores Kaehr and husband, Ronald W. of Albuquerque; brother, Ronald R. Barela of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews who looked up to him and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Tomasita Barela. Frank was a member of The Rotary Club, Elks Club, NM Restaurant Association, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and, Honorary Commander of Kirtland Air Force Base. He was a longtime business owner of Los Cuates Restaurant. Frank was known for his generous heart and boisterous laugh. Frank always helped those in need. He will be greatly missed. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, July 31, 2002, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE. Najera -- Carmen Najera was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on May 8, 2002. Carmen was born on June 5, 1936 in Tome, NM to Doroteo and Senaida Romero. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She is survived by her loving husband, Jesus Najera; her loving sons, Robert Martinez and wife, Carol and Gabriel Najera and wife, Karla; grandchildren, Bobby Martinez and Melissa Martinez. Also two sisters, Grace Ulibarri and husband, Jose, and Josefa Marquez and husband, Victor; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. Visitations will be held Friday May 10, 2002 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the 8th Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. also in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 11, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Marquez -- Anna M. Marquez, 47, a resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her loving family on April 27, 2002, after battling a long illness, Anna has now gone home to be with our Lord. Anna is survived by her loving daughter, Michelle Archuleta and husband, Lorenzo Jr.; her father, Joseph G. Weber; sisters, Dolores Avalos and husband, Louis, Kathy Cano and husband, Victor; one grandson, Lorenzo Archuleta III; nephews, Gerald Gutierrez, Orlando Gutierrez and Brian Apodaca; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A visitation for Anna will be Monday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Montgomery Place Church of God, 3601 Montgomery N.E. with a Prayer Service to be held at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will be Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Funeral Service to be held at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Richard Mansfield will officiate the Prayer Service and the Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Romero -- Mr. Carlos Romero, 89, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on April 2, 2002. Mr. Romero is survived by one daughter, Margaret Chavez and husband Fred; three sons, Ernest Romero and wife Estella, Irvin Romero, Lenard Romero and wife Angela; one stepson, Raymond Marquez; two stepdaughters, Rosalie Garcia and husband Abel and Elisa Clubb; one sister, Inez Montoya; two brothers, Epimenio Romero, Florencio Romero and wife Paula; one sister in law, Dina Romero; 19 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; many nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Romero was a member of the Catholic Church. A viewing will be Wednesday evening from 6:30pm until 7:00pm with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW, by Earl Garcia and Mike Salas. A final viewing will be Thursday morning from 8:30am until 9:00am at Holy Family Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00am by Father Manuel Viera. Jaramillo -- Tomasita (Tomie) Jaramillo, 76, a resident of Albuquerque since 1962, passed away peacefully from her life, Saturday, March 16, 2002 in Albuquerque. She was born October 29, 1925 to the late Celedon and Castula Romero in Valverde, NM. Tomie was preceded in death by her husband, Tranquilino Jaramillo, Jr. in 1985; one brother, Pete Romero in 1994; a son-in-law, Greg Gutierrez in 1995. Tomie and Tranquilino Jr. were married on May 10, 1947 and had two sons, Richard Jaramillo and wife, Susie Racheal, Bobby Jaramillo; one daughter, Ernestine (Ernie) Gutierrez of Socorro, NM; her grandchildren, Gloria and husband, Val Anaya Jr. of Albuquerque, Brenda and husband, Mando Renteria of Las Cruces, NM, Lisa and boyfriend, Steven of Albuquerque, Crystal and husband, Kyle Wisdom of Aviano, Italy, and Lori of Albuquerque. Also surviving are one brother, Celedon and Aurora Romero of Socorro; numerous other relatives, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her for her strength, smile and sense of humor. She was a lady of deep faith that enjoyed dancing, crocheting, seek find words, cooking, baking and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church; a member and volunteer of the North Side Senior Citizens. Visitations will be today from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:30 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Smrt -- Richard"Rick" Smrt, born on August 5, 1954 in Miami, Florida , passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2002. A lifelong resident of Belen, Rick graduated from Belen High School in 1972. He was a well-known businessman owning and operating Rick Smrt Advertising for many years. His business adventures took him all over the United States. He was mainstay at the New Mexico State Fair selling his many wares. He was also one of the first entrepreneurs to realize the potential and magnitude that the Albuquerque Kodak Balloon Festival would have on the state of New Mexico and the country. Since the Balloon Festival inception, he made sure he had a well-positioned booth, and each year his business continued to grow. A person could always stop at his booths at the State Fair, Balloon Festival, and many other trade shows and events and be greeted with a big smile and a warm handshake. Rick always loved visiting with all of his many family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard"Little Richie Johnson" in 1997; one uncle, Charles J. in 1977; his mother and father-in-law, Eudora and Delno West. Rick is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Marie; his two children, Richard and Erica; his mother, Ann Griffin and her husband, Larry of Colorado; his grandmothers, Dorothy Fleming also of Colorado and Katie Johnson of Belen; his step-mother, Carol Wood and her husband, Paul of Albuquerque; his three brothers, Chuck Smrt and his wife, Susan of Belen, Jim Smrt and his wife, Jacque of Nevada, and George Griffin of Arizona; his two sisters, Sandra Beck and her husband, Ron of Albuquerque, and Dina Bell and her husband, Brian of Texas; his brother-in-law, Gary West and his fiancee, Brenda Hurbina of Albuquerque; and his aunt, Millie Smrt of Belen. Richard is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rick's family will be receiving guests on Friday, March 1, 2002, from 2:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m. with Services at 3:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God in Belen with Rev. Greg Burchfield officiating. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen. Pallbearers will be Buddy Dillow, Michael Jaramillo, Woody Hunter, Heman Tabet, Daniel Sanchez, Johnny Jojola, and Leroy Marquez. She is survived by her loving children, Mary Aragon and husband, John, Arlene Sisneros and husband, Justin both of Bernalillo, Pat Moncado and husband, Tony of Alamogordo, Gloria Tapia and husband, Fernandez of Flagstaff, AZ, Becky Gonzales and husband, Chris of San Juan, NM, Agapito Valencia Jr. and wife, Elaine of Rio Rancho and Delfina Lujan and husband, Johnny of Albuquerque; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
