NASH, LEONA K. Age 94, resident of Albuquerque, NM for the past 30 years passed away peacefully in her home August 30, 2014, surrounded by her husband of 72 years, nieces and nephews. Leona was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Nash. She was born on September 13, 1919 in Creek, TX, to Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Knox, the 4th of 7 children, 4 girls and 3 boys. She graduated from college in Crockett, TX and was a librarian. Leona married Douglas Nash, the love of her life, in 1942. Leona and Doug enjoyed RV'ing and spent their retirement years traveling throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. She loved reading, fishing, gardening and caring for humming birds. Services will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014, 3:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Westside, followed by a reception. Interment will take place on Friday, September 5, 2014, 11:00 a.m., at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos, NM. Pallbearers are Charles Durr, Doug Nash, Vernon Rankin, John Thompson, Jerry Prohaska and Mark Prohaska. FERNOW, MARTHA F. Age 90, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014. Martha was born in Inman, Kansas on April 21, 1924. She is survived by children, son, Douglas Fernow and his life companion Becky Harrison of Los Lunas and Becky's sons, Steven and Kristopher Harrison of Albuquerque; son, Thomas Fernow of Albuquerque; daughter, Linda Sumski and husband, Terry of St Louis, MO; and son-in-law, Lee Dominguez of Rio Rancho. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Fernow; daughter, Deborah Dominguez and son, Charles Fernow. Martha began a career in Kansas with Ford Motor Company. After falling in love with the mountains and moving to Albuquerque in 1956, she continued her career as bookkeeper for Mack Truck until she retired in 1978. Before her health declined, Martha enjoyed gardening or assisting the women's group at her church. She will be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held for her at 11:00 am on Friday, August 22, 2014 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa Avenue NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. WELLS, CHARLES EDWARD 1918 - 2014 Charles Edward Wells, age 95, a resident of Belen, NM passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014. He was born to the late Edward and Rosa McNair Wells on November 12, 1918 in Douglas, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Ellen Davidson Wells in 2009; brother, William Stone Sr.; sisters, Zora Wells, Nina Brown, Rosamae Clark and Margaret "Betty" Braly; son-in-law, Von Chesnut; niece, Darlene Cason; nephew, Richard Brown; mother-in-law, Myrtle Vezzre; brother-in-law, Warren Davidson; and sister-in-law, Marion Joyce Davidson. Charles is survived by his son, Edward Wells and wife, Wanda; and daughters, Carolyn Chesnut and Charlene Tolzin. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A Viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, June 6th at 10:30 a.m. with a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date. CUTTER, DONALD COLGETT SR. A Californian who called New Mexico home, passed Friday, 4 April 2014, age 92. A well-known scholar of Southwestern colonial history and the Malaspina scientific exhibitions, he earned a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. He taught at the University of Southern California and was Professor of History Emeritus at the University of New Mexico. Upon retirement from UNM, he held the O'Connor Chair for the History of Hispanic Texas and the Southwest at St. Mary's University, San Antonio, Texas. He authored many books and articles and lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Various research and teaching trips took him to Spain and Mexico. He served honorably as a Naval officer in the Pacific during WWII on the USS Pecos and was a patriot his entire life. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Lazear Cutter; their nine children, Diane Cutter of Corrales, NM, Donald Cutter Jr. of Schwabisch Gmund, Germany, Charles Cutter of West Lafayette, IN, Teresa Cutter Dana, Theodore Cutter, Andrea Cutter, Alex Cutter, all of Albuquerque, Douglas Cutter of Normal, IL, and Carmen Cutter of San Diego, CA; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and his brother, Ross Cutter of Spokane, WA. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, June 1, 2014, 2:00 p.m., at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 114 Carlisle Blvd. SE. Private interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and to honor the life of Donald Cutter, a tax-deductible contribution may be made to support historical scholarship through the Bolton-Cutter Award, created in 2008 to honor Dr. Cutter. BROWN, JAMES FLETCHER Age 80, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on November 2, 1933, to Theodore Roosevelt Brown and Lucy Ruth Brem. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Charles Brown, Eleanore Rucker, and Teddy Brown; step-daughter, Beverly Kay Stanek. James is survived by wife, Venita Brown; children, Douglas Glen Brown, Steven Wayne Brown, Sheryl Diane Farris, Sandra Lynn Cowan, and Jeffrey Scott Brown; step-children, Deborah Lu Prinzing, Diane LaVay Maley, Duane Keith Prinzing, Keith Leroy Prinzing, and Brenda Marie Julian. James enjoyed square and round dancing, was very politically active, loved traveling, and camping.
