AMUNDSON, VICTORIA (VICKI) age 61, passed away on May 1, 2014. She grew up in Phoenix, AZ, where she met her surviving husband of 33 yrs, David. Vicki and David moved to Albuquerque in August of 1981, where Vicki loved the change of seasons. Vicki had many jobs working for the phone company (Mountain Bell/Qwest/Dex) and retired after 30 years of service. She loved the outdoors, gardening, cooking, arts and crafts and taking care of the family dog, Maxwell. She was a giving soul with a heart of gold. She was truly loved by her family and touched the hearts of all who met and got to know her. She was preceded by her mother's death, Vivian Dominguez. She is survived by father Raymond; brothers Norbert, Kenny; and sister Tami. Cremation has taken place and a private gathering will be held in Phoenix for family on the 17th of May. BYRD, CHRISTOPHER BRANDON Christopher Brandon Byrd peacefully joined our father in Heaven on May 11, 2014. He was born on November 19, 1983 in Roswell, NM to Martha and Michael Byrd. Left to cherish his memories are his mother, Martha McNally Byrd; his father, Michael Byrd; his brother, Colin Byrd; his step-father, Gregory Robison; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Christopher was a graduate of Hope Christian High School where he was a member of the 2002 State Championship basketball team. He attained a Bachelor of Science in finance from New Mexico State University where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He also enjoyed his sales position at Southern Wine and Spirits. Chris had a zest for life, a brilliant sense of humor, a generous nature, a kind heart, a passion for music, and most importantly a love for his family and friends. In the brief time he shared with us, he touched so many lives and he will remain forever in our hearts. CAMPBELL, DORA LORRAINE "SISSY" Dora Lorraine "Sissy" Campbell, of Roswell, NM, died on Sunday, February 2, 2014 in Albuquerque, NM at the age of 91. She was born on October 12, 1922 in Englewood, CO to George Arnold Seastone and Dora Helen Seastone. She graduated from Englewood High School in 1940 and attended the University of Denver. In 1942 she married William E. Core, and together they had one child, Andrew B. Core of Albuquerque, NM. Together they traveled as an Air Force family for 33 years. Her husband, Bill, preceded her in death in 1982. Lorraine found happiness again, and married Roy M. Campbell in 1984, increasing the number of family members she loved with his two children, Wallace Campbell of Roswell, NM and Martha Jaramillo of Las Cruces, NM. Her second husband, Roy, preceded her in death in 2002. During WWII and when Bill was away on temporary duty, Lorraine worked as a telephone operator for both Mountain Bell and Montgomery Wards. She was a long term volunteer for the Eastern NM Medical Center Auxiliary Thrift Store in Roswell, NM. She served as a dedicated a member of the Episcopal Church's altar guild in each parish she belonged to. She spent 36 years being a summer season resident of Creede, CO. There, she was as a diligent bridge player and bird watcher. She was preceded in death by her parents; as well as both of her husbands; her sister-in-law, Loraine Seaston; her son-in-law, Chris Jaramillo; and her beloved daughter-in-law, Nancy A. Core. Lorraine is survived by her son, Andy; her brother, Don A. Seastone; her cousin raised as a brother, John R. Spangler and his wife, Barbara; her two beloved grandchildren, Jane A. Core Yatzeck of Williamsburg, VA and Susan B. Core of Albuquerque, NM; three great-grandchildren, Sarah, Andrew, and Naomi; and her step family, Wally, Martha, Amanda, Ryan, Tucker, and Lottie. Contrary to her wishes of "just throw me in the river", there will be two services celebrating her memory. A memorial service will be held at St. Michael and All Angel's Episcopal Church in Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. There will be a mass held in her memory at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church in Creede, CO on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Lorraine's name to the Nature Conservancy. CHAVEZ, CHARLES D. Went to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife Cocoy; mother Mary; father Candelario; and sister Laura. He is survived by his brother, Manuel and wife Cindy; children, Raymond C. Chavez, Andrew Chavez, Roberta Saiz, Patricia Cook, Angela Benavidez, Christopher Chavez, Charles Chavez Jr., Candelario F. CHOUINARD, CONSUELO MEYER (TINY) I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7). Consuelo (Tiny) Meyer Chouinard passed to the Promised Land May 7, 2014 just as she lived her life, with dignity, grace and gentle strength. She had an immense spirit and brought love and joy to all around her. Connie lit up a room with her contagious smile and had a joyful, vibrant presence. Her selfless nature and faith in God knew no bounds. Born in El Rito, NM March 6, 1926 Connie was raised in Las Vegas, NM. Connie held education in high esteem; attending Historic Loretto Academy in Santa Fe and completed her High School education from Benjamin Franklin HS in Los Angeles. Further studies included Behavioral Science and Education from Loretto College in Denver, Highlands University, and the University of New Mexico. She was awarded a Bachelors and a Master's Degree. She was an original employee in Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project. Connie had a profound influence on NM youth, initially teaching Special Education, then Elementary Education for 33 years with APS. After retiring she was a substitute teacher and served as docent for the National Hispanic Cultural Center, El Rancho de las Golondrinas, and Maxwell Museum of Anthropology. She appreciated Arts and Culture, enjoyed playing the piano, and was a regular patron of Popejoy Hall events. She was an avid UNM Lobo fan. In the presence of God, Connie has now joined her son Richard and her parents Charles and Eloisa Meyer. Connie is survived by children, Donelle Murphy, David Chouinard, Patrice Wendlick (Scott), Lisa Chouinard (Steve), Victoria Chouinard, daughter-in-law Chris Chouinard, and stepson Mark Chouinard. Siblings, Marian Ackerman of Las Vegas, NM, Charles Meyer (Eda Mae) of Sun City, AZ, and Julius Meyer (Connie) of Albuquerque. 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. GARCIA, JANE C. Age 87, beloved and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home, Sunday, May 11, 2014, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Parsons, KS and was a resident of Albuquerque, NM. Jane enjoyed sewing, dancing, gardening, arts and crafts and shopping. She especially loved spending time with her family. GREEN, LARRY DALE Age 55, born in Roswell, NM, died suddenly May 11, 2014. Larry grew up in several towns in New Mexico. He graduated from Moriarty High School in 1976 and went on to become an auto mechanic. He married Kathleen Josey in 1987 and retired from Quality Pontiac in 1998. After the birth of his daughter, Claire, Larry spent the next 16 years as a loving and caring stay at home father. Larry is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his daughter, Claire; parents, Virginia and Gene Green of Tucumcari, NM; brother, Bruce Green of Rye, CO; sister, Wyla Green of Michigan; and mother-in-law, Anne Josey. He is also survived by five brothers and sisters-in-law and their spouses; 12 nieces and nephews; and one grand-niece. GRIEGO, CARMEL Age 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her children, Richard Griego and wife, Janet of Boulder, CO, Joan (Griego) Major and husband, John of Portland, OR, and Jimmy Griego of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Rachel Griego, Jonathan Griego, Sean Major, Michael Major and Justin Griego; sisters, Mary Cordova and Fela Duran, both of Albuquerque; and many nieces, nephews and relatives that will miss her dearly and carry her spirit in their hearts. Carmel is preceded in death by her husband, Juan D. Griego. Carmel spent many years as a kindergarten teacher's aide at Annunciation School and until she suffered a debilitating illness was active in choir, liturgy and many Annunciation Parish activities. GROSSOEHME, CLYDE CMDR, USN, (RET.) Cmdr Clyde Grossoehme Age 89, died peacefully in his home on May 8th, 2014. He was born to parents Walter and Mathilda Grossoehme in Nemaha, Nebraska on August 22nd, 1924. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Laurene; and his two children, Jeff Grossoehme and Lisa Golden, all of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his brothers Kenneth Grossoehme of Auburn, Nebraska, Lannon Grossoehme of Coer d' Alene, Idaho; sister Frances Andrew of Auburrn, Nebraska; and sisters-in-law Doris Stokes of Pampa, FL and Maureen Stillahn of Omaha, NE. He was preceeded in death by four brothers: George, Robert, Wendell and Carl Grossoehme and his sister Eilleen Gurney. Clyde proudly served his country for 28 years in the United States Navy where he saw active duty in the Korean War, WWII, and Vietnam before he retired as Commander. He then worked as Assistant Mananger of Coronado Airport and Manager of 7 Bar Airport, Albuquerque and was an avid pilot himself. In retirement he enjoyed fishing, golf and traveling with his wife. He was a true American and will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Thank you for serving our country, Clyde. HAURY, MARK RANDOLPH "RANDY" to his family, made his way to Heaven on Thursday, May 8, 2014. He was born and raised in Albuquerque and had many friends and a loving family who will miss him dearly. Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Lonah Haury, and brothers, Richard K. Haury and Ronald G. Haury. He is survived by his father, Kenneth Haury; sister, Margery Buckner and husband, Jerry; and brother, George Robert Haury, and wife Marian; uncle, Richard N. Wilson and wife, Jane of Golden, Colorado; cousins, George Wilson and Winona Wilson. Mark had a sharp wit and his nieces and nephew were at the receiving end, growing up with "Uncle Randy." He was a favorite uncle of Winona Buckner Robinson, Jennifer Buckner, Amy Haury, Courtney Haury, Ricky Haury and Stephanie Haury. Ricky and Stephanie were especially close to Randy. Mark leaves behind his friend, Ms. Faith Enflin and family. Mark graduated from Eldorado High School where he played football and was the first state wrestling champion from Eldorado. It was a proud moment for Mark and his family when he won his weight class in Las Cruces and his brother, Rick, also a state champion from a previous year, was able to present him his medal. Over the years, his picture was hanging in the Eldorado gym. He attended the University of New Mexico on a wrestling scholarship for a brief time and was particularly disappointed when UNM discontinued their wrestling program. Mark was a gifted beadwork artist and made many treasured items for family and friends. He enjoyed making all types of traditional dress such as bustles for fancy dancing during cultural events. Mark worked in all facets of residential construction and was especially successful in cement work and block work. He also worked in plumbing and was an all-around handyman. Mark was blessed with an outgoing personality and was especially loved by children of all ages. He was willing to help others and had a generous spirit. We know that he is enjoying the reunion now with his mother and brothers in Heaven. A Memorial Service will be Wednesday, May 14, 2014, 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH Lomas. LATHAM, GARY DAVID Born on January 31, 1958 in Clearwater, FL, went to be with our Lord on May 8, 2014 in Albuquerque, NM. Gary was a dedicated father, grandfather, son, brother, worker and provider. He had a love for cooking, the outdoors, family time and his motorcycle; not to mention a hardcore Greenbay Packers and Arkansas Razorbacks fan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Latham. He is survived by his children, Cory Latham, Amber Latham, Paige and husband, Vince Martinez; granddaughter Dayzie Grace; parents Bob and Alice Latham; two sisters, Diana Cupples and Sharon Barkley; and a brother Ken Latham. LOPEZ, RITA 1923-2014 Rita Lopez passed away on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Gentiva Hospice in Albuquerque following a short illness. She would have been 91 next week. Rita was born in Belen, New Mexico on May 18, 1923 to the late Antimo and Concepcion Hidalgo Ulibarri. At a very young age her family, including her younger sister Paulette, moved to Torrington, Wyoming, where she graduated from Torrington High in 1941. She met her husband-to-be, Manuel Lopez right after WWII, as he was fulfilling a promise to his mother, Aurelia Lopez, to stop on his way home to visit her close friend, Conception Ulibarri. They fell in love and were married in Torrington shortly thereafter. Manuel started a business in Belen; Rita was a practicing beautician for a short while until she decided to stay home to raise her children. Once the children were grown, and Manuel retired from his business, Rita and Manuel moved to Grants where they remained until returning to their home in Adelino in the late 70's. Manuel grew chile and alfalfa on their two acre parcel, until his death in 1989. Rita was well known for her great sewing and baking skills, winning blue ribbons for her cookies at the State Fair. Rita eventually moved to Albuquerque to be near her two daughters. She lived at Encino Terrace until going into the hospital in late April, followed by a brief stay at Gentiva Hospice, where she remained until her passing on Sunday. Rita is survived by her three children, Conception "Concha" Lopez-Cherry and husband, Ned; Clarence Lopez and wife, Nancy Blackney-Lopez and Carleen Lopez; as well as grandchildren, Gabriel Harrington and Cristina Lopez-Cherry and Ethan and Estevan Blackney-Lopez; great-grandchildren, Hazel Mae Korce and Summer Corbin-Lopez; as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews, who remember her fondly for her kind and generous spirit. Rita is also survived by her sister, Paulette Lopez; sisters-in-law, Emilia Baca, Sessy Lopez, Onecima Duran; and brother-in-law, Tane Lopez. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a Viewing on Friday, May 16th at 8:30 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with Father Stephen Schultz presiding. MACHEN, WILLIAM L. "MAC" Age 95, a resident of Albuquerque since 1961, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 11, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, La Ferne Machen; grandchildren, David Wiseman and wife, Caroline, Polly Stevens and husband, Scott, and Amy Wiseman; great-grandchildren, Jarred Moore and wife, Marie, Kyle Moore, David Robert Wiseman, Anne Stevens, Jennifer Stevens, and Zachary Stevens; and one great-great-grandson, Benjamin Moore. Mr. Machen was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Janie and David Wiseman. Mac served and retired from the United States Air Force. He also retired from the US Postal Service. MARTINEZ, EDWINA MARIA born on October 26, 1927 and went to be with the Lord, her parents and grandson on May 6, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Medardo Martinez; children, Julian (Diana), Carmen (Tony), Johnny (Yolanda) and Sarah (Richard); 15 grandchildren; 35 great- grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren. SHUMAKE, RONALD P. Ronald Paul "Ronnie" Shumake, 65, of Hannibal, Missouri, died at 11:36 PM Monday, April 28, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery. Bassist Ronnie "The Iceman" Shumake began working in R&B clubs in St. Louis, MO, the birthplace of modern blues. He performed with Willie Nelson, Danny Gatton, Gary Muledeer, Papa John Creech, Delaney Bramlett, John Lee Hooker, Kris Kristofferson, Steve Gaines, Bill Medley, Ray Price, Roger Miller, Harvey Mandel, Tammy Wynette, Glen Campbell, Lester Chambers, Helen Cornelius, K. K. Martin, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Gary Morris, Rusty Kershaw, Doug Kershaw and Canned Heat. As a former member of Canned Heat, he is featured in The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock and Roll. One of Ronald's prominent works, "Sky King", was co-authored with Danny Gatton, the "Master of the Telecaster" on his "Unfinished Business" album.

SISNEROS, PHILLIP DANIEL Age 22, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 10, 2014. He is survived by his father Anthony Sisneros and wife Szilivia; mother Elizabeth Manning and husband Scott; his favorite sister Sarah; and his brothers Stephen, David and Noah. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Ernest Padilla. Phil was a very kind gentle person with a passion for music and adventure. He was enrolled in the UNM Anderson School of Management. He loved hanging out with his friends, long boarding, air softing and traveling to attend concerts. SU, JAMES Age 72, a resident of Albuquerque for 10 years, died Sunday, May 11, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Anna Su; children, David Su and wife Jing of Los Angeles, CA, Karen Su Garrett and husband, John of Atlanta, GA, Jenny Su Coley and husband, Bill of Cary, NC, Darron Su and Grace Su, both of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren, William, Benjamin, Carolyn, Addie, Ty, Ava, and Mahlon; siblings, Richard Su and wife, Julie of Falls Church, VA, Wendy Wu and husband, Roger of Abilene, TX; and numerous other relatives and friends. James was preceded in death by two brothers and his oldest sister. He was born in 1941 in Taiwan and after attending Divinity School because of his strong Christian faith, he attended Dong Hai University where he received his bachelor's degree in Political Science. In Taiwan he worked for Sealand Air Cargo in an executive position and also worked for a seafood exporter. James immigrated to the United States in 1976 and after a short while in Virginia, settled in Georgia. He was a hardworking man, coming to this country with a few dollars in his pocket and became a successful businessman. James was a very kind, God fearing man, who loved his family and friends and was always willing to forgive others by giving them a second chance. After coming to Albuquerque, James owned China Star. He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and brother and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. WALCH, PETER SANBORN Peter Sanborn Walch died May 3, 2014, in Portland, Maine, the city of his birth. He was 73. Peter spent a blissful childhood with his parents, J. Weston Walch and Ruth D. Walch, and his sister, Carolyn Walch Slayman. Stories abound of snowball fights on the way home to Brighton Avenue from Nathan Clifford School and summer berry-picking expeditions on the family's farm in Richmond Corner, Maine. He attended King Middle School and Deering High School in Portland. He graduated from Swarthmore College and then earned a Ph.D. in art history from Princeton University in 1967. He was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to study the paintings of Angelica Kaufman in England. Teaching was one of many passions for Peter. He taught Art History at Pomona, Vassar, Yale, and the University of New Mexico. He became the director of the University Art Museum and spent fifteen happy years mounting exhibitions that tapped university and community resources to the fullest. His shows were popular, and he was proud of bringing the public to the museum. His modern design and technology exhibition featured a glorious Harley-Davidson; the usual museum goers were somewhat flummoxed at the sight of a dozen motorcycles parked in front of the museum's door. Among his other passions was food--he was an excellent cook and a connoisseur of wine. Cars were big in his life--the faster and sleeker the better, although his Ford pickup was a favorite for transporting art to the museum and dogs to the mountains. After Peter retired from the university, he and his wife and two dogs moved permanently to Portland and Little Diamond Island, Maine. He served as chairman of the board of what is now known as Walch Education, the family's publishing business, and as unofficial mayor of LIttle Diamond Island, usually meeting the ferry with lemonade, fresh garden kale, and island news. Poker was important. He established the Thursday Night Poker Club which met on the island during the summer and continued on the mainland during the rest of the year. Poker gave Peter a way to channel his mathematical skills, his steel-trap memory, and his affection for risk-taking. The stakes were not high--ten or twenty dollars at most, but the value of the friendships was incalculable. He was a man of keen intelligence, insatiable curiosity, an enormous sense of the joy of life, a democratic nature, and irresistible charm. His wife, Linda Tyler; children, Max Walch and Abigail Laskawy; grandchildren Daniel and Owen Walch and Violet and Gwen Laskawy, step-children Anna Tyler and Elizabeth Stone; sister Carolyn Slayman; nephew Andrew Slayman; niece Rachel Platonov; and the many people in his life who were his friends and colleagues adored him and will miss him. Memorial donations are not encouraged, although he would not have insisted otherwise and would have appreciated that any go either to Friends of Casco Bay in Portland or to New Mexico Animal Friends in Albuquerque. He also would have appreciated that those who knew him remember him by eating good food, drinking good wine, and playing good poker.
