JOHN N. SR. (JOHNNY) Born and raised in Socorro, John N. Gallegos Sr. passed away in the loving presence of his family on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Lovelace Medical Center. John was the son of J.O. Gallegos and Ofelia Bourginioun of Socorro and Albuquerque, NM of whom preceded him in death. He attended Mt. Carmel School where he graduated and did many fun things until the age of 30 when he met the "Love of His Life" Adeline Z. Gallegos of Old Town and they married just three weeks after they met. Their love story continued until Adeline preceded him in death just prior to being married 58 years. John and Adeline purchased their first home on Candelaria Road in the NW Valley in 1953. He worked for the Lumber Mill in Bernalillo in the 1940's, the Refuse Department for City of Albuquerque and was a Tax Auditor for the State of New Mexico. He and wife Adeline owned and operated the El Portal Mexican restaurant in Socorro in the 1960's when they closed the business so Johnny and his son Jerry could open JG Wholesale (manufacturing silver and turquoise jewelry). Johnny was Jerry's right hand man in the business and Jerry called his dad "Johnny Turqoy" because he loved the business so much and had trouble pronouncing turquoise. Jerry also said that his dad was his "Soul Mate". Among other businesses John and Adeline owned, he also served as a Trustee for the Socorro Electric Cooperative and was the Socorro County Assessor from 1970-1974 and from 1978-1982. He and Adeline also served in the San Miguel Church and Johnny was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Johnny was loved by everyone and always had a kind word to say to people. He adored his wife and children and will be forever loved and missed. The children describe John and Adeline as being the "Best Parents Ever" and always being there for them no matter the circumstance. Johnny was an avid Democrat and enjoyed traveling and visiting different casinos throughout the US to play poker, his life-long passion. Johnny is survived by his oldest son, John Jr.; his daughter Annette; his grandchildren, Jerry Anthony Gallegos Jr., Anthony Phillip Gallegos, Celestria Gallegos, A. Dominic Longoria, and Noah Lena Gallegos; his great-grandchildren, Mariah Rae Gallegos, Dominic Anthony Gallegos, Jerry Manuel Gallegos, and Alexis Gallegos. He is also survived by his nephews, Jose Gallegos (Joey), Frank Lucero Jr., Gregory Lucero; and his niece, Elizabeth Ann Wilson (DeeDee). He was preceded in death by his wife, Adeline Z. Gallegos; his son, Jerry Anthony Gallegos Sr.; his sister, Fela G. Lucero; his brother, Jose Isidro Gallegos; and his nephew John Gilbert Gallegos.
