CANDELARIA -- DAVID Funeral Mass for David Candelaria age 89, of Austin, Texas and Ice Caves, New Mexico will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2011, 10:00 am at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grants, New Mexico. Burial will follow at the Candelaria Family Cemetery at Ice Caves, New Mexico. A Prayer Service and Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, 7:00 pm at Compassion Mortuary. David was born on January 27, 1922 in Concho, Arizona and he passed away on July 10, 2011 in Austin, Texas. He is the grandson of Silvertre Mirabal and Lorencita Jaramillo Mirabal of San Rafael, New Mexico. He was the son of Prudencia Mirabal Candelaria and M.A. Candelaria. David was the owner/operator of the Ice Caves and Bandera Volcano since 1947. He developed the Ice Caves Trading Post and successful tourist attraction known as The Ice Caves. Upon his return from Navy duty in World War II, David began developing the Ice Caves as a business. During these years he cleared trails, worked the land, and strongly advocated for tourism in New Mexico. The Ice Caves is still thriving today. He is survived by his three loving daughters, Janet O'Connor of Grants, New Mexico, Debbie Reinschmidt of Austin, Texas and Betsy Reinschmidt of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nine grandchildren, Kathleen O'Connor of Grants, New Mexico, Marcie Bradley of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Lora Alford of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Amy Goodman of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Rory Reinschmidt of Parker, Colorado, Daniel Reinschmidt of Colorado, Chelsea Reinschmidt, David Reinschmidt of Austin, Texas and Janet Reinschmidt of Austin, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Jacob and Ryan Alford of Grants, New Mexico, Meaghann Reinschmidt of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Connor and Logan Goodman of Monument, Colorado. He is preceded in death by his wife, Cora (Reddy) Candelaria. Pallbearers will be Jeff, Alford, Terry O'Connor, Stephen Reinschmidt, Rory Reinschmidt, Daniel Reinschmidt, and Jacob Alford.
