BOWERS -- Robert "Bob" Bowers, 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, died Thursday, May 26, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Jan who was his loving and constant companion since 1987; two sons, Robert and Ronald Bowers and his wife Karin; grandsons, Patrick, Jeff and Kenneth Bowers of Albuquerque; granddaughters Beth Diamond of NY City and Melissa Bowers of Albuquerque; six great-grandchildren; his brother Carl Bowers; nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins in the Joplin, Missouri area. Bob was preceded in death by his grandson, Matt; granddaughter, Kim; and his brother Bill who preceded him in death by a couple of months in North Carolina. He was born in Roy, NM but most of his family at the time were in Missouri so he moved frequently between Missouri and New Mexico. His father lied for him to get into the Navy during WW II where he became an aviation electrician, flying on seaplanes hunting submarines in the Atlantic. After the War he returned to Washington D.C. where he met and married Ruth Huston. They promptly moved back to his home state of New Mexico where he worked in the mines around Silver City. There they had two sons, Robert H. and Ronald A. Bowers. They soon moved to Carlsbad where he worked at Carlsbad Electric. He was one of the electricians who provided the lighting for the newly established Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Never one to sit still and be content, he outgrew Carlsbad and after a couple of short lived jobs, started his own company, Bowers Electric in Albuquerque, in 1958. He quickly became prominent in the area's construction industry but he didn't stop there. Bowers Electric, under his guidance expanded into a multi-state operation performing work in Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, Colorado, and Arizona. As if that wasn't enough, he became an investor in real estate and a real estate developer, building homes in several subdivisions in Albuquerque. His real passion became his horses and horse racing. At one time he and his wife Jan had as many as 45 race horses, and they were successful in that business also. He took personal interest in the horses, training and breeding them. Bob learned the art of horse breeding and raising as thoroughly as his other businesses in the past. Bob lived life to the fullest; having become a pilot, playing backgammon with friends, and spending as much time as possible on their house boat at Lake Powell. He was close friends with Ben Abruzzo and Maxie Anderson when they accomplished their trans-Atlantic Balloon flight. He was in Paris to greet them upon their triumph. Later in life, after a stroke left him partially paralyzed and unable to speak, Bob kept active with his real estate properties and scrapbooks of political cartoons. Although physically hampered, he remained active and his wit and sense of humor were better than ever. He has hundreds of friends and well-wishers world wide. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Rd. NE, Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carrie Tingley Children's Foundation, 1720 Louisiana Blvd. NE, Suite 202, Albuquerque, NM 87110 or the Animal Humane Society of NM, Inc. 615 Virginia, SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. Bob would be honored. Please visit our online guestbook for Bob at www.RememberTheirStory.com. FRENCH 1111 University Blvd. NE (505) 843-6333

JACKSON -- Raymond C. Jackson, 90, died at his home Monday evening, May 23, 2011, not unexpectedly, of an illness which he had been fighting for some years. He fought strongly with the assistance and love of his whole family. He was a loving, caring man of God who was a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. We were all with him when he had to finally release his hold on life. Raymond was a native of Albuquerque, born here on July 15, 1920. He attended Albuquerque High School and the University of New Mexico. He was an avid Lobo fan for many years especially basketball and football. He was the oldest son of SY and Jane Jackson, always beloved but now deceased. We have lost all three of Raymond's sisters, Maebelle Myers, Catherine Furman-Jele, Jackie Louise Willey; a special nephew Sherwood Jackson; a special niece Charis Furman-MeKelvy; as well as our beloved grandchild Helen Aubrey Miller. Raymond is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Graves Jackson. Their anniversary was celebrated May 21, 2011 just before he died on the 23. (Incidentally he sent her yellow roses.) Helen and Raymond were married here in Albuquerque in 1944. Raymond had joined the US Army Air Corps and was stationed in Albuquerque and Fort Sumner, NM, bringing in the gliders and trying to keep the cadets from getting lost. He was working for TWA and attending the University of New Mexico when he volunteered for WWII and the Army was trying to keep him in place. However the war soon sent him to OCS in New Orleans, in 1944. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and placed in the Transportation Corp. He spent the rest of the war in Houston directing and shipping out heavy ammunitions and armaments from the San Jacinto Ordinance Depot. When Japan surrendered Raymond came home and went back to TWA. By that time he had a wife, Helen and a baby on the way. He was a successful businessman until he was called up again to the Korean "situation" in 1950. This time he was sent to Washington DC in the Transportation Corp as a Captain. He directed and approved the US Government's purchase of some of the largest planes still in use today for the Army Air Transportation Corp. He stayed in the Army Air Reserves for his full twenty, retired as Major Jackson and was discharged on July 15, 1980. Raymond loved Rotary and served as President for the Rotary Club of Albuquerque in 1976-1977, was a Paul Harris Fellow in 1982 and was still a member when he died. He was elected President of the Board of Directors from 1967 to 1970 for Goodwill Industries. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite and a designated Son of the American Revolution. He was always active in his church, Central Avenue Methodist and then Central United Methodist when they moved from Central and Broadway to University. He served in every official capacity open to layman and was strong in his Faith until his death. Raymond and Helen have three daughters, Patricia Spencer of Santa Fe, Maryle Barber of Albuquerque and Helen Miller with her husband of 32 years Rodney Miller of Roswell; They have six grandchildren - John Hunter, Truman Spencer, Elizabeth Barber, Amanda Spencer Kirkbride, Jay and Chance Miller. We are blessed with a granddaughter -in-law Alena Spencer and two charming great grand children Justice and Charlese; a nice grandson-in-law Justin Kirkbride and two loving great grand children Madison and Jackson Kirkbride as well as John's son Sean Neuman. Raymond's brother SY (Tony) and his wife Alice Jackson are the last survivors of his family except for many nephews and nieces, all close friends of Raymond's. Helen's sister, Beth Graves Morgan and her daughter, Susan Morgan, are survivors and continue to be a big part of the close family circle. Raymond retired from Albuquerque Public Schools as the Purchasing Director, where he was in charge of all purchasing except for construction and for books. He had many friends when he retired in 1985. Retirement brought a chance to finally get all that fishing done so Raymond bought a Colorado second home and loved every minute of it. We have had a loving family to care of us as we aged and some special friends Mark Young and Jean Horseherder of Presbyterian Health Care and home aides Martha Gonzales and Paula Holguin who smoothed our way and sang to us on our journey. Raymond believed one should never say "good bye" only "see you later". Cremation has already taken place. Services will take place on May 31, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at Central United Methodist Church, 109 University NE conducted by Rev. Jim Hawk. Internment at Sunset Centennial Urn Garden will occur at a later date. Please direct any gift and remembrances to Albuquerque Rotary Charitable Foundation, PO Box 3807, Albuquerque, NM 87190. MCCONNELL -- Ronald McConnell passed into the presence of his Lord, whom he served and proclaimed in his 55 years of ministry, on May 23, 2011 after a bout with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife of 50 years, Marjorie, and their children, Kelly, Mark and Peter. Ron was born in Fort Worth, TX on February 2, 1932 to E. Albert and Maude O'Toole McConnell. He attended public schools in Fort Worth and graduated from Florida State University, Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary and Indiana Church of God Seminary. He and Marjorie Jane Hassler of Tacoma, WA were married on June 13, 1961 in Dallas while he was an Air Force Chaplain at Biloxi AFB, MS and soon after they were deployed to Prestwick AFB in Scotland. While in Scotland, their daughter, Kelly, was born and Ron completed a PhD in Biblical Philosophy at the University of Glasgow. Upon returning to the USA, Ron continued in the Air Force Reserve and was pastor of the Boulevard Assembly in Waco, TX. During this period, sons, Mark and Peter were born. In 1969 the family moved to Sandia Park, NM, where they purchased property and built a home in the mountains. While building homes for others in the area, Ron began to gather together people who were excited about his vision to unite those of diverse backgrounds under the lordship of Jesus Christ and in the dynamic of the Holy Spirit. The group began meeting in the bank building at Wyoming and Menaul NE in Albuquerque, but grew so rapidly that they rented the Church of the Good Shepherd on Juan Tabo NE. Soon thereafter, the by then Christian Center congregation, needed to expand again and purchased the Church of Christ on Candelaria NE. Within two years the congregation had outgrown this facility, so, under Ron McConnell's leadership, purchased land at I-40 and Juan Tabo NE and built a large new church facility. With the new facility and multiple staff the congregation grew to 1600 in attendance and became known nationally as an influential church. Ron McConnell also was involved in international travel with Dr. David DuPlesis and John 17:21 Ministry which promoted his passion for unity of all Christians. At this time he felt the need for a new ordination and was ordained a priest in The Episcopal Church, Diocese of the Rio Grande. Ron departed in 1981 to become the Development Director for a new Christian TV station in the San Francisco Bay area. During his absence, the attendance at Christian Center dwindled, so in 1985 Ron returned as the senior pastor. Soon thereafter the name was changed to Trinity Church and the decision made to affiliate with the Episcopal Church, Diocese of the Rio Grande, under the leadership of Bishop Terence Kelshaw. During the next several years Bishop Kelshaw asked Ron to serve as Interim Rector at the Cathedral of St. Clements in El Paso for two years and at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Las Cruces, during which Ron and Marge made numerous new friends. He was then appointed by Bishop Kelshaw as Canon Theologian for the Diocese of the Rio Grande. Trinity Church has continued as Trinity in the Marketplace under the able leadership of Michael Kelshaw, son of Bishop Kelshaw. In 2007 Ron and Marge retired to his boyhood home of Fort Worth to be near relatives. In 2010 he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, cancer of the bone morrow, and they moved to a winter home in Goodyear, AZ to be convenient for treatment at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. Ron is survived by his wife, Marjorie, daughter, Kelly, sons, Mark and Peter, son-in-law Monte Castillo and grandsons, Matthew and Bryan. He is also revered and loved by many who have been involved in his years of meaningful ministry. A memorial service in his honor will be held at East Gate Church, the former Christian Center, 12120 Copper NE, Albuquerque, NM 87123 at 1:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2011. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to Happy Hill Farm Academy, 3846 Highway 144, Granbury, TX 77048, (254) 897-4822 or www.happyhillfarm.org. ROSS -- Mary Lou Stubbs Ross, age 78, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 27, 2011 in Albuquerque after a short battle with cancer. Born on August 5, 1932 in Santa Fe, NM, she was the cherished child of Stanley and Florence Stubbs. She grew up there in a time of simple pleasures and a closely knit community during the uncertainties of the Great Depression and WW II. After graduating from high school in 1949, Mary Lou attended UNM and married in 1952. She lived from coast-to-coast in Rhode Island, Virginia, New Mexico and California as a young wife and mother. In 1964, she returned to New Mexico with her three children and successfully built a new life for her family. In 1965, she graduated with a BS in Home Economics and later earned a Masters in Education. After a long career as a Reading and Language Arts teacher and Area Reading Specialist with the Albuquerque Public Schools, she retired to pursue her many interests. A passionate world-traveler and life-long learner, she visited 54 countries and all 50 states. Photography, calligraphy, philately, reading, genealogy, classical music, crewel embroidery and a houseful of elephants of every description were among her many interests. Mary Lou participated actively in the local chapters of Alpha Chi Omega, PEO-Chapter AL, Kappa Omicron Phi, Pi Lambda Theta and Alpha Delta Kappa.-Beta Chapter. SHELDON -- Daniel Dion Sheldon, 84, passed away at his home on Sunday, May 22, 2011. He was born on April 16, 1927, in Santa Barbara, Chihuahua, Mexico to Benjamin Austin and Maria Natividad Sheldon. Because of the lack of adequate schooling in Mexico at that time, his parents sent Daniel off to St. Michael's High School in Santa Fe by himself at age 13. He made many life long friends there. Upon graduation in 1944 he immediately joined the U.S. Navy to serve in the Pacific theater until 1946. He attended the University of New Mexico on the G.I. Bill and achieved a B.S. degree in mathematics. In 1953 he married Marguerite Garcia with whom he had and raised a family of six children. Marguerite died in 1980 and Daniel married Gladys Rowe in 1988. Daniel retired from Sandia National Laboratories after 43 years of service. He worked in quality control and statistics for most of his career. At Sandia, he enjoyed teaching out-of-hours courses in Spanish and especially enjoyed his advanced evening class, "Los Avanzados." Daniel had many interests: languages (especially the Spanish language and fine points of English grammar), poetry, current events, Mexican history, New Mexican history, World War II history, jazz, classical music, genealogy and travel. He enjoyed his membership in the Hispanic Genealogical Research Center and the friends he made in that organization. He and Gladys loved to travel and eventually covered all of Mexico and most of western Europe on their trips. Daniel was a warm and generous man and always went out of his way to be there for people who were sick and in need of encouragement. He coached many students of all ages who had to pass that bugaboo of a statistics course in order to get their MBA. He always had a book in his hand, and spent many hours on the Internet checking on the arts and literature and current events at home and abroad. He is survived by his wife Gladys; daughters Maria (Felix) Delgado, Peggy (Rodger) Scurlock, Cathy (Doug) Wambaugh, Brenda, Barbara; and son Tom. Surviving grandchildren are Luis, Chela, Daniel, Ruben, Ariana (Jacob), Nathan, Inessa, Sarah, and Alice. Surviving great-grandchildren are Lauraand Daniel. He is also survived by many cousins and friends in Mexico. The family is grateful to the nurses of Presbyterian Home Health Care, particularly Melissa Sandoval, for the fine care and many kindnesses he received from them. Cremation has taken place. At Daniel's request, there will be no public service. A small memorial for the family has already taken place. Donations in Daniel's name may be made to KNME (www.KNME.org), Animal Humane/New Mexico (www.animalhumanenm.org), or the charity of your choice. Services entrusted to SALAZAR & SONS MORTUARY 400 3rd St. SW Albuquerque, NM 87102
