KRONE -- Karen Pond Krone died April 29, 2011 surrounded by her family. In the words of her three year old grandson, "Bestamore died. She ran out of batteries and she can't talk anymore." Born in Taos, Decemeber 23, 1939, Karen was the daughter of Lucille and Ashley Pond, the mother to Kersti, Briget, and Jono Tyson, sister to Joan Pond, Gretchen Lofgren, and Ashley Pond, and "Bestamore" to Michael, Mark, Kristina, and Kevin Krone, Elizabeth and Dawson Eastep, and Lily and Bryce Tyson. She was also a cherished friend, aunt, cousin, step-mother, mother-in-law, and wife. Karen attended school at Barstow Boarding School in Kansas CIty, MO, Colorado Women's College in Denver and the University of New Mexico. After graduating, she worked as a social worker in Taos and Albuquerque until she married John Tyson in 1968 and became a Mom in 1969. She kept close ties to Taos and returned there in 1975 to work for Taos Ski Valley until 1982 when she married James Krone and settled in Albuquerque. In the past decade Karen enjoyed her grandchildren, friends, time in Taos, and traveling.
