SANDOVAL -- Josefita Sandoval, 97, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 5, 2010. She is survived by her daughters, Claudia Sandoval and Esther Armijo (Tommy) of Hesperia, CA; grandchildren, Patricia Maldonado (Richard) and Stephanie Flores (Tony); great- grandchildren, Amber and Aaron Maldonado and Jennifer and Anthony Flores; and many good friends. Josefita was preceded in death by her loving husband, Enrique. She loved to crochet many beautiful things including round bed Afghans, doilies and blankets. Over the years, Josefita taught herself how to speak English. She was a wonderful homemaker, and dearly loved her children and grandchildren. She always told her friends and family that she was praying for them and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Rosary for Josefita will be recited on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 8:00 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church 11401 Indian School NE. SCHILD -- Dr. Joyce A. Schild, age 78 of Albuquerque and Chicago, died Monday, April 26, 2010 in Albuquerque. Survivors include her husband of 36 years, John Hegber; stepdaughter, Jean and husband Michael Baker; grandchildren, Katelyn, Airelle and Sarah; sister, Dolores and husband Richard Ryder and brother; George and wife Joan Schild. SCHNAIBLE -- Lester J., age 79, a resident of Belen, NM, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2010. He was born in Mound City, SD. Lester joined the U.S. Air Force at the young age of 17, retiring 21 years later after dutiful service to his country. He is also retired from Sears Roebuck after working for them for ten years. Lester enjoyed RVing, fishing and especially having coffee and donuts with his many friends at Donut King in Belen. Family was important to him and he enjoyed traveling the country visiting all of them. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 29 years, Clara Ann Ritter; and parents, Chris and Helen (Wolfer) Schnaible of Oakes, ND. Lester is survived by his loving and loyal wife of 16 years, Lorin Schnaible; daughter, Dorothy Oddieo of Palm Springs, CA; son, Doug Barlow of Perris, CA; step-daughter, Kim Oswald of Nashville, TN; sister, Joyce Schnaible of Aberdeen, SD and sister, Mabel Tunby of Wahpeton, ND. He is also survived by numerous loving grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to Hospice of New Mexico, Advanced Healthcare and Altura Home Healthcare for their time and dedication in caring for Mr. Schnaible. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made in Lester's name to the American Cancer Society, 10501 Montgomery NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111 or the Valley Lutheran Church, 3259 Hwy 47, Los Lunas, NM 87031. SHEPPARD -- Jacqueline Van Aernam Sheppard, 84, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, died May 2, 2010. She is survived by her daughter Jan of Denver, Colorado, and her son Reed and wife Diann of Tijeras; grandsons, Brian Pagan and Jason and wife Amanda Pagan; and great grandchildren Gabrielle and Alexander Pagan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olin, in 1985. Mrs. Sheppard was a long-time volunteer at Bear Canyon Senior Center. Born in Weed, California, she graduated from Texas State College for Women with a BA in International Trade. After residing in many locations during her early life, she found her permanent home in Albuquerque in 1973. A memorial service was held at French Mortuary. SLAM -- John Joseph Slam, 69, passed away in the family home, Sunday, May 2, 2010. He was loving and generous and will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 47 years, Rita Maria; son Ronnie; daughters, Sherry, Lisa and husband Phillip, and Deborah and husband Marcial; twelve grandchildren, Crystal, Laticia, Dawne, Christopher, Randy, Rhiannon, Brad, Doug, Anniela, Elianna, Michelle and Stephen; seven great-grandchildren, Anthony, Tony, Isaiah, Jordan, Legend, Bellah and Gabriel; brothers, Frank and wife, Eileen, Tom and wife, Becky; nieces and friends. Mr. Slam was preceded in death by his parents Valentine and Sophia. John was born October 1, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio. After high school, he trained at NASA before transferring to Bermuda and then transferring to Albuquerque, NM in 1975 with his family, where he retired from KAFB. STONE -- Helen Stone, 70, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and resident of Albuquerque for 32 years, passed away at home with her husband by her side on Saturday, May 8, 2010. Helen was born on December 3, 1939 in Gadsden, Alabama. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Emmett Stone; her children, Bruce G. Stone and wife Carla, Angela Young and husband Harold, and Zan J. Stone and wife Elizabeth; her grandchildren, Zandrea, Crystal, Britney, Sergei, Melanie, and Tanya; her siblings, Edna Harris, Louise Copeland and husband Charles, and Charlie B. Robinson and wife Winnie, and many extended family members and friends. Helen was a loving wife and mother who will be truly missed by all who knew her.
