MILLER -- Margery Simms Miller, 81, died May 6, 2010. She was born January 24, 1929 in Dulce, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. J. Denton Simms; brothers, Harper, Donald, Richard; and sister May Denham. She is survived by her brother David and wife Betty Lou Simms of Albuquerque; her daughters, Dennie Miller of Rio Rancho, NM, Melinda and husband Carey Matthews of Buckeye, AZ, Beth Miller of Los Lunas, NM; and grandson, Clay Gayet of Austin, TX. She enjoyed music, taking care of her rescue dogs and volunteering at a local Alzheimer's facility. A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 114 Carlisle, SE at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 2010. A reception will follow.

MORRIS -- William (Billy) Morris, beloved husband and father, and long time resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away in the early morning of May 5, 2010. Born on March 20, 1918, Billy was always interested in music and began playing the trumpet at 15 years of age. Billy started working at his father's nightclub in Detroit and continued until he hit the road like so many musicians of those days. His musical adventures have opened the door to many life-long friendships as well as gigs with some of America's great entertainers. Billy's career, as of his latest recording, spans seventy-one years. His list of friends and music associates reads like a Who's Who of American Entertainment. Billy is also listed in the Big Band Academy of America's Hall of Fame for trumpet players. He is survived by his wife; five children; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many good friends. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, 2621 Vermont NE, Albuquerque, NM. SHEPPARD -- Jacqueline Van Aernam Sheppard, 84, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, died May 2, 2010. She is survived by her daughter Jan of Denver, Colorado, and her son Reed and wife Diann of Tijeras; grandsons, Brian Pagan and Jason and wife Amanda Pagan; and great grandchildren Gabrielle and Alexander Pagan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Olin, in 1985. Mrs. Sheppard was a long-time volunteer at Bear Canyon Senior Center. Born in Weed, California, she graduated from Texas State College for Women with a BA in International Trade. After residing in many locations during her early life, she found her permanent home in Albuquerque in 1973. A memorial service was held at French Mortuary. STONE -- Helen Stone, 70, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and resident of Albuquerque for 32 years, passed away at home with her husband by her side on Saturday, May 8, 2010. Helen was born on December 3, 1939 in Gadsden, Alabama. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Emmett Stone; her children, Bruce G. Stone and wife Carla, Angela Young and husband Harold, and Zan J. Stone and wife Elizabeth; her grandchildren, Zandrea, Crystal, Britney, Sergei, Melanie, and Tanya; her siblings, Edna Harris, Louise Copeland and husband Charles, and Charlie B. Robinson and wife Winnie, and many extended family members and friends. Helen was a loving wife and mother who will be truly missed by all who knew her. YERBICH -- Estelle Yerbich, 82, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque went to be with The Lord on Friday, May 7, 2010. Estelle is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Smith, and Keven Stewart; her two brothers, RJ Gibbs, and Fred Gibbs, wife, Sharon; one sister, Adele Repp; her grandchildren, Jaysen Yerbich and Michael Yerbich; good friend Alene Ford; four great-grandchildren and numerous neices and nephews who will miss her dearly. Estelle is also survived by her dog and precious companion Tebo. Estelle was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent "Slav" Yerbich; son, Michael Duane Yerbich; one sister and one brother. Estelle was a long time member of Riverside Church of Christ. She loved to paint, and also enjoyed collecting antiques as well as Native American artifacts. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 10, 2010, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at French - University location. BLAND -- Alberta Lee Bland was born September 2, 1937 to Bert Austin and Opal A (Pettit) Bland at home in Beaver City, Nebraska. She weighed ten pounds that day and as the years passed she never grew over 5' 1" but she had a huge heart. Alberta had one older brother, Austin and younger, Monty. They both treasured and teased her which contributed to her joyous personality. When Alberta was 12 years old she had open heart surgery, the first successful open heart surgery in a child in the state of Nebraska. That heart continued to beat strong until May 8, 2010 when she left this world for a better life. Alberta graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Medical Technology. She retired from Presbyterian Hospital and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She loved cooking, gardening, wood working, singing with "Young at Heart" and her two dogs "Charlie" and "Sophie". Alberta is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Austin; nephew, Justin William; and grand niece, Ruth Isabelle. Survivors include her partner of 44 years, Louann Daniel; her brother, Monty and his wife, Cheryl; nephews, Robert and Spencer Bland and their wives and children; nieces, Renae, Babette, Caramia, and Stephanie and their husbands and children. Services will be held Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at French-Westside Location, 9300 Golf Course Rd, NW Albuquerque, New Mexico. BROCKWAY -- DENNIS VERN BROCKWAY. After a seven year battle with Melanoma, Dennis Vern Brockway died peacefully in his home with the love of his family on May 6, 2010 at the age of 69. Dennis is survived by his family, MaryDell Nochumson, Susan Brockway, Tiffany Nasise, Lori Larson, John Larson, Sierra Larson, Bodie Larson and Paula and Don Williams. Dennis was born in Globe Arizona on May 8th 1940 to Vern and Pauline Brockway. Dennis was the eldest of two children and grew up on the west side of Albuquerque. He graduated from Albuquerque High in 1958 and furthered his education by receiving a bachelor's degrees in Electrical Engineering from UNM in 1962. Dennis joined the Bell Labs graduate program in Whippany NJ, and while there completed a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from NYU. Dennis was awarded a PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 1970. Dennis joined the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory in 1971. During the beginning of his 27 year career Dennis was instrumental in developing a standard weapons code used to design several weapons in today's nuclear stockpile. This work resulted in Dennis being awarded one of the first LANL Distinguished Performance Awards. He ended his career as a designer and project leader for the Graphical Interface Aggregate Control System (GIAC). GIAC was the accepted graphical interface and data management tool for training and simulation based exercises in Europe and Korea. GIAC was particularly useful in combat staffing training for the first Gulf War. This resulted in strong commendations from military leaders and a Distinguished Performance Award for his team. Dennis retired in 1998. Dennis was an avid duplicate bridge player and golfer, and enjoyed spending his free time in pursuit of these activities. Friends are invited to join in a celebration of his life at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday May 13, 2010 at the Los Alamos Golf Course.
