ALDEN -- Rose Alden, 87, passed away May 23, 2009. She was born August 1, 1921 in Cleveland, OH and moved to Albuquerque in 1954 with husband Frank and their children. She became active in the Unitarian church and began her APS teaching career after graduating with honors from UNM in 1965. She was active in the educational retirees association and volunteered many hours with the Presbyterian Healthcare Auxiliary. Frank preceded her in death in 2005. She is survived by son James and wife Janet, daughter Martha and husband David Thibeau, and son Charles. The family thanks Prime Care Living Constance House and Hospice of New Mexico for their exceptional care in her last weeks. There will be no formal services. BEREZA -- Elias Joseph Bereza, 80, went home to the Lord on Saturday, May 23, 2009 with his son David by his side. He is survived by his son David; his longtime companion Dorothy Trafton; his grandchildren Christopher and Stefanie; great-grandchildren Alicia and James. He was preceded in death by his two sons Warren and Steven Bereza. Mr. Bereza retired from the US Army after 22 years of service, having served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He retired from the US Postal Service with 20 years of service. He loved gardening and traveling, especially cruises. Elias was a kind and gentle soul and will be deeply missed. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 8, 2009, 9:00 a.m. at Shrine of St. Bernadette. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery. BERRY -- Daniel O'Connell Berry, age 44, on May 23, 2009 the angels came and took him to heaven. Daniel was born in Albuquerque on April 26, 1965 to Patrick and Connie Berry. First and foremost, Daniel's priority in life was his daughter Ashley. He dedicated his life to her health and happiness. Dan's heart was as big as he was. He was a very kind and generous person who often went out of his way to help anyone who needed it. It did not matter if it was family, friends or someone he did not know. Daniel graduated from Los Lunas High School in 1983, where he was a star basketball player. He attended New Mexico Highlands University on a basketball scholarship and graduated with honors in 1988. Daniel was employed by the USDA Forest Service. Daniel greatly enjoyed working for the Forest Service and appreciated the opportunity to work with the many wonderful people there. Daniel is survived by his daughter, Ashley Berry of Albuquerque; parents Patrick and Connie Berry of Los Lunas, NM; sisters, Barbara Saupe of Belen, NM, Margaret Berry of Los Lunas, NM, Jeanette Wilson and husband, Sam Wilson of T or C, NM; brother Patrick Berry Jr. and wife, Julie Wilber of San Francisco, CA; nieces, Trista Saupe of Belen, NM, Madison Wilson of T or C, NM; nephews Karl Saupe of Albuquerque, Jordan Berry of San Francisco, CA; uncles, Bob Guest and Dale Guest of Maywood, NE and many close friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at New Life City Church 4830 Pan American Freeway NE, Albuquerque with Father Joachim officiating. BROSNAN -- Patrick W. Brosnan, 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1966, died Friday, May 29, 2009 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret "Marge" Brosnan; and daughters Mary Brosnan and fiance Stephen Dyer and Martha "Marti" Stone and husband Sam. Patrick was an excellent salad maker, shopper, and the best handicapper in town. He was a devoted husband and loving father. COLEMAN -- Georganna Coleman, age 88, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully at home Friday, May 22, 2009, after a short illness. Her family and beloved dogs, Luc, Maggie, and Scooter were by her side. Georganna was born March 1, 1921 in Flora, Indiana to George and Hilda Baum. She moved to Albuquerque in 1950 and resided in the Albuquerque area the rest of her life. Georganna and her late husband Jim, who preceded her in death in 2006, spent many wonderful winter months in San Carlos, Mexico enjoying their friends and exploring different areas in Mexico. Georganna loved to sew and garden, but will be most lovingly remembered as the "hostess with the mostess", entertaining many friends and family. Georganna is survived by her son Thomas Smith and wife Annie of Houston, TX, son Ed Jones and wife Sharon of Belen, NM, and daughter Karen Nickelson and husband Allen of Corrales, NM. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jenna Wessels of Oklahoma City, Tiffany Jones and husband Zack of Farmington, NM, Nina Howard and husband Jay and Mark Diaz of Houston, TX, Jennifer McMullin and Renee Andrews and husband Fred, all of CA. She had five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Trace, Kimberlyn, Emily and Riley. She also preceded in death her two sisters, Penny McCann, and Bette D'Arco and husband Pat, all of Rio Rancho; and three nieces, Janna Pfautz and husband Bob of Hot Springs, AR, Cathy Thompson and husband Carl of Albuquerque, and Georgie Stuart and husband Clinton of Edmond, OK. A Memorial Service will be held at Los Poblanos Inn and Conference Center, 4803 Rio Grande Blvd NW, Abq, on Friday, June 5, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. It was her wish, in lieu of flowers, to make contributions in her name to the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico, Inc., 615 Virginia St., SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.

NARANJO -- Emma Naranjo, age 86, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, was called to Eternal Life by the Lord, Friday, May 29, 2009. Emma was born on June 21, 1922, in Cuba, NM and was a resident of Albuquerque. A Rosary will be recited Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, Alameda Mortuary. NEWMAN -- Mary A. Kastelic Newman (Marcelle Amelia Taylor) died peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2009. Born in Akron, Ohio on December 2, 1917 to Hardin and Johanna Taylor (Foley), Mary attended Gesu Grade School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Holy Angels Academy in Milwaukee; and Milwaukee Community College/Business School. She married Eugene E. Kastelic (Joseph Kastelic Newman) at the Church of the Gesu on September 5, 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Together they were the devoted and loving parents of seven children. Mary extended her kindness as a foster mother to numerous children through Catholic Family Services in Wisconsin, and was a staunch defender of the unborn with the Pro-Life movement in New Mexico and throughout the United States. She was a dedicated member of the Catholic Legion of Mary, the Blue Army, Nocturnal Adoration, and the Universal Living Rosary. Mary, along with her husband Joseph, founded "Operation Holy Innocents" in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mary was blessed with a beautiful voice for music, and she shared her gift with many church and concert choirs. She is preceded in passing by her loving and caring husband Joseph Kastelic Newman, parents Hardin and Johanna Taylor, brother Robert McGinnis Taylor, and son Robert Louis Kastelic. Mary is survived by her children Mary Margene Woida (Joseph), Mary Kathleen Sheahan, Carol Jo Gregory (Rick), James Christopher Kastelic, Gene Taylor Kastelic (Laurie), and John Michael Kastelic (Susan); grandchildren John, Mark, and Matthew Woida; Sheva and Shireen Nickravesh; Miles Sheahan; Benjamin and Nathaniel Kastelic; Mary Christine and Colleen Gregory; Gobi, Nubian, and Kalahari Kastelic; Danny, Andy, and Alex Kastelic; Michael Kastelic; great-grandchildren Aaron and Jolene Woida; nieces Marcelle and Marlene Taylor; and many other dear relatives and friends. Special gratitude is extended to Beverly Wilder for her tender care and assistance toward our mother. Throughout her life, Mary remained a devout and faithful Catholic, and she will be dearly missed by her children and all whom she knew and loved. A Rosary will be prayed at English Funeral Chapel, 1700 North Spokane Avenue, Post Falls, Idaho, Sunday, May 31, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. A Requiem Mass will be held at Saint Joan of Arc Chapel, 723 North 11th Street, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, at 10:00 am, Monday, June 1, 2009, with Graveside Ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls following the Mass. SCHALK -- Martha Rouse Schalk was born on November 4, 1923, in Casper, Wyoming. She was raised in Casper and at age 5 moved to Evanston, Illinois, where she graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1941. She attended Monticello College in Illinois and graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1945 with a degree in journalism. She worked in journalism until her marriage to John E. Schalk on April 17, 1948 in Casper. Wyoming. After her marriage she lived with her husband in Wyoming, Texas and Okalahoma before settling in Denver, Colorado in 1951. In 1953, she and her husband started Arapahoe Drilling Company, an oil and gas firm that worked throughout the Rocky Mountain Region and is still active in the Four Corners Area. They moved to Albuquerque in 1972. Following her husband's passing in 1981 she remained the primary owner of the company and guided it during the years that followed. She is survived by her daughters, Claudia Short and Karen Schalk of Albuquerque; son Steve Schalk, of Saratoga, Wyoming; grandchildren John Schalk of San Diego, California, Joey Schalk of Austin, Texas, Katherine Short, Sarah Short, Brian Davis, Natalie Johnston and Blythe Johnston of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
