NEWMAN -- Mary A. Kastelic Newman (Marcelle Amelia Taylor) died peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2009. Born in Akron, Ohio on December 2, 1917 to Hardin and Johanna Taylor (Foley), Mary attended Gesu Grade School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Holy Angels Academy in Milwaukee; and Milwaukee Community College/Business School. She married Eugene E. Kastelic (Joseph Kastelic Newman) at the Church of the Gesu on September 5, 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Together they were the devoted and loving parents of seven children. Mary extended her kindness as a foster mother to numerous children through Catholic Family Services in Wisconsin, and was a staunch defender of the unborn with the Pro-Life movement in New Mexico and throughout the United States. She was a dedicated member of the Catholic Legion of Mary, the Blue Army, Nocturnal Adoration, and the Universal Living Rosary. Mary, along with her husband Joseph, founded "Operation Holy Innocents" in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mary was blessed with a beautiful voice for music, and she shared her gift with many church and concert choirs. She is preceded in passing by her loving and caring husband Joseph Kastelic Newman, parents Hardin and Johanna Taylor, brother Robert McGinnis Taylor, and son Robert Louis Kastelic. Mary is survived by her children Mary Margene Woida (Joseph), Mary Kathleen Sheahan, Carol Jo Gregory (Rick), James Christopher Kastelic, Gene Taylor Kastelic (Laurie), and John Michael Kastelic (Susan); grandchildren John, Mark, and Matthew Woida; Sheva and Shireen Nickravesh; Miles Sheahan; Benjamin and Nathaniel Kastelic; Mary Christine and Colleen Gregory; Gobi, Nubian, and Kalahari Kastelic; Danny, Andy, and Alex Kastelic; Michael Kastelic; great-grandchildren Aaron and Jolene Woida; nieces Marcelle and Marlene Taylor; and many other dear relatives and friends. Special gratitude is extended to Beverly Wilder for her tender care and assistance toward our mother. Throughout her life, Mary remained a devout and faithful Catholic, and she will be dearly missed by her children and all whom she knew and loved. A Rosary will be prayed at English Funeral Chapel, 1700 North Spokane Avenue, Post Falls, Idaho, Sunday, May 31, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. A Requiem Mass will be held at Saint Joan of Arc Chapel, 723 North 11th Street, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, at 10:00 am, Monday, June 1, 2009, with Graveside Ceremony at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls following the Mass.
