LOGSDON -- Loretta Kay Logsdon alias "Grandma Chili", 72, went on her final "Happy Trail" to be with her Lord and Savior on September 27, 2008 after a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bill Logsdon; her four children, daughter Shirley Griffin (Jaimie) of Colorado Springs, CO; son Curt Logsdon (Teresa) of Woodland Park, CO; daughter Ronnie Young (Kirk) of Woodland Park, CO; daughter Vonna West (Mark) of Albuquerque, NM. Being the true heart of the west, Loretta Logsdon lit the hearts and imaginations of many. She was Roy Roger's biggest fan, the most enthusiastic collector of all things new and exciting, and always made the best pot of both red and green chili for miles around which is where she gained the name "Grandma Chili". Loretta will be remembered by all using one simple word: FUN! She brought joy, life, and adventure to all she met and all she did. As a fanatic collector, she took most of her family on wild goose chases finding beanie babies and anything else that struck her fancy. And for holidays, such as the Fourth of July, she would be the one sporting the most flashing-lighted patriotic necklaces and spinning headbands. "Grandma Chili", a member of the International Chili Society, also held numerous awards, trophies, and honors for her famous 'Holy Smoke' chili and salsa. She had a heart for yodeling and ice skating. Even more important, she had a heart for her family. She was a devoted wife, and loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend. She served her husband faithfully as both companion and business partner for 54 years. Her greatest joys in life were the moments she spent with her family around a camp fire in the mountains, watching her grandchildren either at ice skating rinks, basketball courts, football fields or next to a tree at Christmas. She never failed to give you her undivided attention and always made you feel as if you were the most special, most loved, and most talented person she had ever known. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. As "Grandma Chili" would say, 'Happy Trails to you, until we meet again'. Mike blessed the world with a beautiful tenor voice and sang the lead in many Albuquerque Civic Light Opera Association productions in the 1960s and early seventies. He spent his career working for Farmers Insurance Group, as an agent and District Manager, and retired after 43 years with the company five years ago. He and Vicky spent the last five years traveling the world - Europe, Africa and Latin America - and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Mike was an active, long-time member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, most recently serving a three year term as First Reader. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother, friend and colleague to many. Few men have blessed the world in so many ways. He often said that he was one of the most fortunate men in the world because he could count all of his children as his best friends. Friends of the family, church members and colleagues are invited to a celebration of his life on Friday, October 3, 2008 at 2 p.m. at El Nido Farm in the South Valley.
