MCCARTY -- J. V. McCarty September 2, 1927 - May 3, 2008 On September 2, 1927, the Lord blessed the world with the arrival of J. V. McCarty. He was born to Louis C. and Lillian Goodman McCarty in Crosby, Texas. They later moved to New Waverly, Texas and then to Sion (Hwy 75 northwest of Huntsville, Texas). He grew up with a wonderful family of three brothers and a sister, plus cousins who were like his brothers, and a nephew, Leon, who was like a baby brother. His grandmother and uncles and aunts all lived close to one another. They had some special neighbors - among them the A J. Murray family. J. V. attended school in Sion (one room) until his was in the 7th grade. He then went to school in Huntsville on the bus driven by his great neighbor, A. J. Murray. He graduated form Huntsville High School in 1945. He always remembered the teachers and good friends he had. In September 1945, J. V. received his letter of greetings from his President, so he left home for the first time to serve his nation in the Army. After boot camp and school training, he embarked on a small transport ship to Frankfort, Germany. He drove transport trucks (without a driver's license) and saw a different world. After his tour of duty in Germany, he returned home to attend Sam Houston State University. He soon began his "working days". He worked for a seismograph company, Cisco Electric, Sunshine Baker, Mountain Bell Telephone Co., and Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring December 30, 1991. He was the third brother to own and operate McCarty's Grocery that was originally built by his parents. He lived in only three states - Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. He took great pride in his attitude of always giving more than was expected. He saved a man's life whom had fallen into a frozen lake while on a hunting trip in Las Vegas, New Mexico. He felt blessed to be at the right place at the right time and didn't think he was a hero. After J. V.'s retirement from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, he enjoyed going Mission trips to help build schools and churches. He also loved helping poor people with house repairs and wheelchair ramps. He loved working for Habitat for Humanity in Conroe and Willis. He enjoyed those special times with his special friends, Waymon Harrell and Jack Boatright. His highlights of the week were always, church, Sunday school (basic), and Tuesday morning men's Bible study at First United Methodist Church! He was a good cook and the greatest dishwasher. He was a loving, steadfast, generous, and quiet man with a wonderful sense of humor who loved his Lord Jesus. J. Waldeck; and his dear cousins, Douglas, Julian, Cecil, and Frances McCarty; and his nephews, Larry McCarty and Paul Gregory. He adored his grandchildren, Tammy McCarty, Brandy Meadows, and her husband, Tim, Cassandra McCoy and her husband, Jeffrey, Stanley Kristynik, Vicki McCarty, Jennifer Waldeck, Staci Marie McCarty, Mason Lee McCarty, Brittany Marie McCarty, and Rami Newman. He felt truly blessed to have five great grandchildren, Jazmine Townsend, Alan Meadows, Amber Meadows, Amy Meadows, and Landon Meadows. He loved his "Tut", his best friend, co-worker, playmate, roommate, and dear brother, Lawrence McCarty. He thought of you as that special baby given to him when he was five years old and was always so proud of everything you accomplished. Only special brothers have such a close, loving connection. He loved his sweetest sisters-in-law and love, Carolyn and Ellen McCarty. He will also be missed by his father and mother-in-law, Leroy and Ruth Shoemaker (Albuquerque, New Mexico), his brothers-in-law, Paul and Alberta Shoemaker (Los Lunas, NM), Richard Shoemaker and Connie (Rio Rancho, NM), and his sister-in-law, Marcella and Edward Pace (Petaluma, CA). He loved dearly his many nephews and nieces and their families. He will be dearly missed by his cousins, Willie (Buster) and Raymond McCarty. He also loved and leaves special foster son, George Kelley, and his children, Amber and Robin. Being a man with plenty of love to give, he also leaves his cherished "God children", Tiffany, April, and Michael Biehle, Nikki Mattox and family, October Davison and family, and Shawna and her family. He also will be greatly missed by his first wife, Betty Cline, the mother of his first three children, and all the loving wisdom family he always held close to his heart. He and the family were so blessed by many calls, cards, visits, meals, Christmas gifts, and most of all, prayers! We will always be grateful for your love and giving hearts. He was a special light of the world and he chose to "Let his light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and Praise your Father in Heaven." Matthew 5:14-16. We will love you and hold you in our hearts always and thank our Lord that you blessed us by being a part of our lives. His Funeral Service will be at First United Methodist Church, Conroe, Texas on Thursday, May 8, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jim Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery.
