MCGRATH -- Dora K. McGrath, 97, of Albuquerque, NM, and an avid Lobo's fan, passed away Monday, March 31, 2008. She was born and raised in Vernon Center, MN. She moved to Albuquerque in the 1950's with her sister, Mary (deceased). Dora had many fond memories of growing up in Vernon Center with her sister, Mary, and brothers, Charles and Edwin. She took great pride and interest in her family's history as described in her genealogy writing. She had a voice for music, a gift for writing, a sense of humor, and timing for one-liners. Dora served with the Red Cross hospitals in England and the Philippines during WWII and attended the Aquinas Newman Center faithfully. She is survived by her niece, Betsy Linsert, of VA; nephews, Charles Kraus of GA and David Kraus of MN; and numerous great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles and Edwin Kraus; and sister, Mary Kraus. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be on Monday, April 14, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas NE, Albuquerque, NM. Interment will be at St. Mathews Cemetery in Vernon Center, Minnesota at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Red Cross. MILLER -- Stanley M. Miller, 75, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2008. He was born in 1933 in Richmond, VA, and spent his younger years in Michigan. Stan graduated from Bristol high school in Bristol, IN. He came to Albuquerque in 1951. Stan is survived by his wife, Kay, of 43 years; two brothers, Ken Miller and Rose, Ray Miller and Shirley; two sisters, Alice Lantz and Fran Farrar; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Parish; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. He loved his family and enjoyed camping at the lakes and traveling in the motor home throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico. After retirement, he and Kay traveled to many countries in Europe and met many new friends. He will be remembered for his wonderful smile. Stan served his country for two years with the Army and was stationed in Japan. He worked at ACF Industries and then spent 30 years with the Federal Aviation Administration in El Paso, Amarillo, Dallas, Gallup and Albuquerque. Stan was a member of B.P.O. Elks, Lodge No.461 and NARFE, Chapter 80. A Rosary will be celebrated on Monday, April 14, 2008, 6:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 15, 2008, 10:00 a.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. OVERTON -- Helen Thomas Overton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, died peacefully at The Montebello on Friday, April 11, 2008. She celebrated her 99th birthday March 26, 2008, among several family members and friends. A resident of Albuquerque since 1947, Helen was an active member of The Tuesday Literary Club, a docent at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and served as President of the YWCA Board. She was a lifetime student of art, music, history and literature who traveled extensively. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Lewis M. Overton. She is survived by her three children, Nancy Covalt, Lewis M. Overton, Jr. and wife, Priscilla Franklin, and Mary Pashyo; grandchildren, Cale Carson III, David Carson, Jane Cooley, Mary Matteucci, Thomas Overton, Anne Merkert, Cyrena Schroeder, Rasila Lester, Rebecca Covalt, Kathleen Covalt, and Martin Covalt; and eighteen great-grandchildren. Helen was a member of First Presbyterian Church where a memorial service will be held at a later date. PASCALE -- John F. Pascale, 81, ret. CW4 US Army, died peacefully in New Mexico after a recent illness. During military years, he was in Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Germany, and France, as well as American bases. After retirement, he worked in Maryland for The Rouse Company and The Enterprise Development Company as Director of Engineering and Construction, and Vice President. His Maryland projects included the Rouse Company building, Baltimore Harbor Festival Marketplace; other projects were in Florida, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Texas, Japan, Hawaii, and Australia. John will be missed by many. Surviving John is his wife, Patricia Harris Pascale, in Albuquerque, NM; children, John Pascale Jr. and Jenise Pascale Fry in Florida; sisters, Muriel McLeese and Patricia Marden, in Connecticut. PEOPLES JR. -- James 1917-2008 James McDill Peoples, Jr., age 90, a resident of Los Lunas, NM, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, after surviving prostate cancer, stroke, heart attacks, renal failure, and low alfalfa prices. He was known as James, Jim, and to most of Valencia County as "Mr. People". He was born in Matthews, NC, and plowed his father's fields behind mules while still in elementary school. He grew up attending Sardis Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC, where burial took place on St. Patrick's Day in the family plot. Jim served his country in the United States Army Air Corps from 1941-1946. He was stationed at Kirtland as well as in the Philippines and Japan. Following discharge, Jim returned to Albuquerque and made it his home. He was a realtor, but a farmer at heart, and moved to Valencia County in 1974 to farm and raise Hereford beef cattle and Alfalfa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie and James McDill Peoples Sr.; his sister, Rachael; brother, Preston; infant daughter, Charlotte; and stepdaughter, Candi Smith. James is survived by his devoted wife, Claire; son, James R.; stepchildren, Harold, Jeni, and Kent and their spouses; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters, Perry, Margaret, and Emma. James was a life Shriner and family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Shiners Hospitals for Children, Edgar Mc Gonigal, P.O. Box 31356, Tampa, FL, 33631-3356. PITTELL -- Glenn Pittell died suddenly April 8, at age 55. Glenn was a sculptor, collector of rustic treasures, would-be bull rider, Scrabble enthusiast, dart fiend, and a gourmet/gourmand with a special affinity for his outdoor kitchen. Glenn was a much-loved husband, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor in the Fringecrest community. Glenn was also a dedicated mental health professional who brought commitment and tenacity to his work with clients and their families. Glenn was raised on his beloved Galveston Island, and those environs had a profound influence on his loves and life. Glenn received his BFA from the University of Texas in Austin, and went on to a MA in Art Education with Art Therapy emphasis at UNM. Glenn took great pride in introducing an art therapy program to the Albertina Kerr Center in Portland, Oregon where he worked with behaviorally-disordered adolescents. Returning to New Mexico in 2001, Glenn continued his mental health work at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital, most recently as a discharge planner for the inpatient psychiatric unit. Glenn is survived by his wife, Lynn Hillas; sister and brother-in-law, Jill and Bob Randall, of Galveston; niece, Clair; and nephew, Spencer; brother and wife, Mark and Sue Pittel, of Houston; and nephew, Mike. Glenn will be remembered for his compulsion to befriend, screwball humor, and expansive heart.
