LOSACK -- Lyle Christopher Luke Losack, 51, passed away Monday, March 24, 2008 at his home in Corrales after battling with an undiagnosed illness. Lyle C. Losack, P.E., was born October 17, 1956 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His family moved to El Paso, Texas in 1960 while his father, Johnnie Losack, worked at White Sands Missile Range. All available spare time was spent in Corrales, NM to work his Grandmother Dulcelina Curtis's farm. The farm was founded in 1889 by his great-grandparents, the Salces, who immigrated from Italy. The immigrants hand-plowed the first drainage ditch in Corrales. This drainage system was used to drain off unusable swampland water to make the land usable for farming. In his early years, Lyle gained valuable knowledge in raising horses and other livestock, pruned, maintained and picked apples from the now 62-year-old trees that his grandparents planted. Lyle learned flood damage control through irrigation on the farm. They grew vegetables and native chili, which was his grandmother's specialty crop. He hoed rows and rows of Chile plants - that gave him the sense of fair and honorable work ethics. His love of building and design started in early childhood and carried throughout his life. His 8th grade science fair project was a passive solar design. The teachers in his high school architecture class would make up problems for him to do and would have him solve real-world problems and designs for El Paso architects. He volunteered to join the Navy in 1975 and served for 5 years. During this military service he was stationed in the Gulf War. There he excelled in training on boiler, pump, turbine systems and damage control. Lyle was very proud to have served his country and very supportive of our soldiers. After an honorable discharge from active duty, he retuned to Corrales to attend the University of New Mexico for an engineering degree. He graduated with a BSCE in Civil Engineering with Construction Management Option in 1986. The love of Architecture and Design gave him the life-long mission to design and hand-build his custom solar glass residence in Corrales. He was a Civil Engineer with more than twenty-two years of engineering related experience in planning a design of roadways, flood control levees and channels, sewer and drainage systems, airport aprons and hangers, construction utility and grading plans, structural design, subdivisions, all aspects of residential construction, field inspection, soils labs, cement batching plants, mechanical HVAC, fire protection, plumbing, pump, turbine, and boiler systems and owned his own business, QuickDraw Engineering, L.L.C. located in Corrales, NM. QuickDraw Engineering LLC was started in 2001. It expanded to meet the growing needs of his clientele. His clientele included DR Homes, Centex and Pulte Homes - and many others. The projects ranged from Subdivision master plans, including site, grading and drainage, road profile, and inspection work. Numerous projects were completed with COA, Bernalillo County, and the City of Rio Rancho. His early professional experience was expansive and led to projects locally, multi-state and internationally. Clients included NASA, DOE, DOD, DOI, Raytheon, Sandia and Los Alamos Labs. Runways, aprons and hangars were designed for Tonopah Test Site. He designed the Los Alamos HAZ waste treatment facility and YUCCA Mountain Storage Facility. His biggest international project was Bikini Atoll Master Plan, which included utilities, power systems, runways, and rain catchment systems to reclaim the property for the islanders from the Nuclear Test program. Lyle recently helped move his ex-mother-in-law into his home so that he and his ex-wife could care for her. Lyle was known for helping others in need. Lyle is survived by his son, Christopher Losack; daughter-in-law, Michelle DeMar Losack, ex-wife, Kim Elliott; mother, Evelyn Curtis Losack; sister, Joneve Bender; brothers, Mark and Vincent Losack; two nieces; four nephews; and one grand-niece; all of Corrales, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A Rosary will be held Friday, March 28, 2008 at San Ysidro Church in Corrales at 7:00 PM The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 10:00 AM at San Ysidro Church in Corrales with Father Vance as the celebrant. STARR -- Sandra (nee Moore), longtime resident of Texas, Oregon, and New Mexico, passed away on March 24, 2008, at Presbyterian Hospice in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Third of five children, Sandra was born on June 24, 1943, to Donald W. Moore and Vera Juanita Pickens, in Abilene, Texas. The family moved to Hereford in 1950, and Sandra graduated from Hereford High School in 1961. Sandra attended McMurry College and Baylor University and held a degree in Religion and Psychology from Eastern New Mexico University. In 1963, Sandra married Philip Anson Wolcott. Before moving with their two young daughters to the Pacific Northwest, Sandra worked at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. In Eugene, Oregon, where the family lived for many years, Sandra was employed by CH2M Hill. Coming to Albuquerque in the early 1980s, Sandra first worked for UNM library, then began a career as a highly regarded trainer in Organizational Communication, developing curricula and conducting classes at Kirtland Air Force Base, Lovelace Medical Center, Sandia Laboratory, and other local entities. In the course of this work, Sandra became associated with the Albuquerque Mediation Alliance, where she went on to serve as Executive Director. She subsequently directed a federally-funded pilot program at Albuquerque's East San Jose Elementary School, initiating a much-admired children's gardening program known as the Jardineros Project. Pursuing her interest in children, Sandra earned certification from the English Nanny and Governess Training School in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and spent several years in this capacity for families in San Francisco and Palm Beach, Florida. She returned to Albuquerque in 2005 to devote herself to the care of her father, who, along with her mother, were residents of Manzano del Sol Good Samaritan Village. Sandra's lifelong focus was on building bonds with those around her, confirming the web of connections linking family, friends, and the world at large. Music played a key role in this: in addition to playing the piano, Sandra had a lovely voice and especially appreciated classical music and opera. Literature was equally essential to her, especially poetry. Sandra was a lover of animals and of nature. She had uncanny empathy and great patience. She touched the lives of those around her with compassion and vibrancy. Sandra Starr is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Larry Don Moore. She is survived by her brothers, Pickens Moore (Gallup, NM), and Cyrus Moore (New York, NY); by her sister, Amanda Moore (Santa Fe, NM); by her daughters, Robin Wolcott and Holly Reilly (both of Seattle, WA); and by ten grandchildren, with the eleventh joyfully anticipated in May. Two well-loved grand-dogs, Stella and Spencer, are among those left behind. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008, in the Chapel of Manzano del Sol Good Samaritan Village in Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Presbyterian Hospice Foundation.

WILSON -- Melvin Harvey Wilson, age 71, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008 in the arms of his wife Jane and kids Jeff and Jan after a short painless battle with pulmonary fibrosis. We're sure that as Mel peacefully crossed over he was happily greeted by his mother Blanche, son Greg and many others who made the journey to the other side before him. Mel was born in Highlands, NC and was a resident of NM since 1945. Mel will be remembered for his good nature, humor and excellent work. He loved to work around his home, fixing things, remodeling, and tinkering with projects. He loved to do yard work and keep his yards beautiful. Neighbors and friends will remember how he loved to sit and soak up the sun in front of his house every morning. He also loved to get a chocolate malt at Sonic. Mel was very easy-going and informal and didn't want a funeral or memorial service. He would have preferred that friends and loved ones instead go to Sonic and toast him with a chocolate malt and remember him as he was in life.
