Gilliland of New Providence, NJ. He attended Our Lady of Peace grammar school, New Providence High School, St. Joseph's University, and Stanford University, where he received his Ph.D. in sociology. LOGSDON -- Marcia L. Logsdon, 80, of Santa Fe, died Tuesday, January 3, 2006, of natural causes. Marcia was born Marcia Lenore Thomson on November 19, 1925 to Amos and Iva Cayler Thomson. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Clifford Tunnell, an Air Force pilot killed in the line of duty in the early 1950s, by her second husband of 31 years, retired Air Force pilot and aerial photographer Paul G. Logsdon, Jr., in 1989, and by her son, Santa Fe D.O.M. Lynsay Earl Tunnell, in 2003. Marcia is survived by her daughter, Laurie Logsdon; and granddaughters, Sarah Logsdon Perry and Lillian Logsdon Perry, of Santa Fe; by her daughter-in-law, Kelly Murphy and grandson, Brennan Murphy-Tunnell, both of Santa Fe; and granddaughter, Aidan Murphy- Tunnell, in Denver, CO. Marcia's niece, Junia Hughes Stevens Fellman, survives her in Albuquerque. A native New Mexican who grew up in Albuquerque, Marcia met and married her second husband Paul at Kirtland Air Force Base in 1958. Together with children Lynsay and Laurie, they lived and traveled in the U.S., Bermuda, and Spain, then returned to Santa Fe in 1976 and built the adobe home where family still resides. Marcia was a beautiful, intelligent, articulate, artistic, musical, and romantic person of strong convictions and emotional depth, someone who left indelible impressions on her friends and family. In the 1960s, she campaigned vigorously for politicians and causes in opposition to the Vietnam War and in support of social and racial equality, notably the ACLU, Mothers for Peace, and Amnesty International. Spiritually, Marcia was a Unitarian Universalist and held an ideal of religious tolerance and unity. Marcia was an avocational literary scholar, social critic, and historian, and created a legacy of geneaological history on all branches of her family. She was thorough and meticulous in her work. She assisted her husband Paul in his second career as an aerial photographer, and was an unfailing champion of her children. On a lighter note, she loved to invite people to dinner, and there will not be her equal in spaghetti sauce and green-chile-chicken-cheese enchiladas. Marcia chose cremation; her ashes will be divided between New Mexico and a favorite locale in Spain. Memorial contributions may be made in Marcia's name to the Museum of New Mexico Foundation, Friends of Archaeology, P.O. Box 2065, Santa Fe, NM 87504. McCormick and moved to Carlsbad, residing there until 1971 when she returned to Albuquerque. Dottie dearly loved the Albuquerque of her youth, reminiscing often about the old neighborhoods and the fun she and her friends had picnicking or skiing in the mountains and going to movies at the Kimo Theater. As a young woman, she enjoyed meeting the trains at the Alvarado, getting photographs of movie stars as they got off the trains (and she had quite a collection of glossy movie posters, obtained, somewhat surreptitiously she admitted, from the walls of the Kimo). She adored the music of her generation, imparting that love to her children, and she never forgot the words to those songs. Before the war, Dottie spent exciting summers with her girlfriends, traveling by ship to Hawai'i in 1939 and to Puerto Rico in 1940, trips that made for a lifetime of fond memories. And she really could do the hula. The last three years of her life were spent pleasantly at La Vida Llena in Albuquerque, participating in many activities and working her crossword puzzles. She leaves many friends among the staff and her fellow residents. The family wishes to thank the capable, compassionate and gentle people, both at the Heart Hospital and at VistaCare Hospice, for their loving care of Dottie during her last week of life, affording her every dignity. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to VistaCare Hospice Foundation, 5639 Jefferson NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. In accordance with her wishes, Dottie's remains will be cremated and there will be no formal services. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333

Abuela Luba was born in Pipian, Habana, Cuba on April 14, 1911, and was very proud of her humble beginnings. When her husband died in 1950, she became a businesswoman, taking a new unexpected role running the farms. Abuela was always a strong woman and the matriarch of our family. She loved every child in our extended family and even friends called her "abuela." She came to the United States in 1964 and was very proud when she became an American citizen. She used to say that she will always be a Cuban, but now she was a proud American. She did not miss an election since she became eligible to vote. Abuela brought with her from Cuba strong family values and wonderful cooking skills. Nobody cooked like abuela! The great-grandchildren would always delight on the sweet concoctions that abuela would make especially for them. She was very generous with whatever she had and with her time. She proudly claimed that she raised every one of her nieces and nephews in Cuba and her grandchildren in the United States. She would travel by bus, by train and by airplane to and from Albuquerque, Miami, Tucson, North Carolina and California to tender her family. Abuela Luba will be greatly missed. SANCHEZ -- Winona Susan Sanchez. Our Loving Lord and Savior called home our "shining star", Winona Susan Sanchez, age 50, Wednesday, January 4, 2006. Winona was born in Dayton, OH, October 4, 1955, during her father's senior year in seminary. New Mexico became home to Winona when her parents were assigned to the New Mexico Mission Field. She attended McCurdy Mission School for eight years, where she was a cheerleader for several years. Then her parents were transferred to EL Paso, TX, where she attended two years at Thunderbird High School. Winona's parents took a sabbatical leave and her remaining two years of high school were spent at Del Norte High School in Albuquerque, NM. She enjoyed singing in the chorus and performing with the Castelles Drill Team. Winona graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education in May of 1983. She began her teaching career at Los Lunas Hospital and Training School - Adult Services Department, and continued at Jemez Valley Schools, Century High Alternative School in Los Lunas, Laguna Middle School, Ernie Pyle, Atrisco Elementary, Pajarito Elementary, Namaste Elementary (Child and Family Development - severely emotionally disturbed), Cibola High, Cochiti Elementary, and was currently teaching Special Education at Moriarty High School. She was a strong advocate of daily exercise and a dedicated jogger. Winona was also a licensed aerobic instructor at various facilities and schools. For years, Winona has been a faithful member of the Robert Schuler "Golden Eagle" Crystal Cathedral Ministries. One special word to describe Winona is she was a "giver". She gave of her time, her love, her compassion for her family and her students as well as those less fortunate than her. She took pride in spending time with her family, especially her parents; even more so, when her father suffered a massive stroke and became paralyzed. The love she shared with others was overwhelming. Winona never thought that it was too much work to help anyone whether it was in her personal or professional life. She always encouraged her students to become the best they could be. Out of 200 people, Winona was chosen by the Donna Groff Agency in the top 20 to represent New Mexico to go to the American Modeling and Talent Convention in Orlando, FL, and in so doing, she achieved one of her special dreams of becoming an actress and model. In fact, she appeared in a movie with Jennifer Lopez "Bordertown", in the "Wildfire" television series, and in several commercials. In fact, her family refers to her as their "Star". It is truly a blessing to have had her in our lives and Winona will be incredibly missed by not only her family and friends, but by every student whose life she influenced. Winona was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Phil C. Sanchez; brother-in-law, Mark S. TOBEY -- Gene Tobey, age 60, of Santa Fe and formerly of Port Aransas and Mason, TX, passed away Wednesday January 4, 2006 at a local hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born May 26, 1945 in Utah to James G. and Annabelle Tobey. Mr. Tobey was a well known southwestern sculptor, known for stylized animal sculptures with his trademark line drawings incised into the surface. Gene began his career as a sculptor/potter and taught sculpture, pottery and three dimensional design at Casper Community College in Wyoming and Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, OR. In 1985, he and Rebecca married and blended their five children into a family. He began collaborating with Rebecca shortly after their marriage, showing in art galleries across the United States. Together they pioneered large, brightly-colored ceramic animals, and in the mid 90s their work shifted to bronze sculptures with lively, innovative patinas. Now, their work ranges from miniature animals to monumental bronzes like the fifteen-foot tall bear at Baylor University Law School. The art world has lost one of its creative innovators, but his family and friends will miss his humor, great sense of adventure, passion for nature, and his soul. Gene is survived by his wife of 20 years, Rebecca; his children, Chris Tobey and wife, Angela, Jami Kiendra and husband, Mitch, Josh Tobey and girl-friend, Josephine Franklin; and his step-daughters, Jessica Sequera and husband, Hector, and Elizabeth Olmsted and boyfriend, Arturo Contreras. He is also survived by his mother, Annabelle Tobey; his sister, Tami Tobey; his brothers, Gary Tobey and wife, Karen, and Jerry Tobey and wife, Susan; along with five grandchildren, Christian, Eric, Kayla, Tobey, and Delaney. A time of celebration of Gene's life will be held Sunday January 8, 2006 starting at 1:30 p.m. at the family residence located at 37 Droege Rd., Santa Fe, NM 87508. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gene Tobey Memorial Art Scholarship Fund in care of Mason National Bank, P.O. Box 1789, Mason, Texas, 76856.
