BEHNKEN -- John W. Behnken, Jr., was born October 25, 1917 in Houston, Texas, the son of Rev. and Mrs. John W. Behnken, and entered into eternal life on September 21, 2005. Jay, as he liked to be called by family and friends, graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1940 and served as pastor at churches in Eola and Houston, TX and Hickory, NC. In 1943 Jay began a long career as a military chaplain, first in the US Army Air Force and later in the US Air Force with assignments in Korea, Germany, and the Philippines, as well as numerous bases in the U. S. He retired from active duty as a Colonel at Kirtland AFB in 1977. Jay is survived by a daughter, Jayne Kuehner and husband, Greg of Dayton, OH; son, Jim Behnken and wife, Annalisa of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Kathryn Chase and husband, Brian, John Kuehner, and Jack and Julianne Behnken; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Laura, Caroline and Eleanor Chase; brother, Ken Behnken of Reno, NV; sisters, Lois Roehrs of Ft. Wayne, IN and Delle Schmelder of St. Charles, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Evelyn Knippa Behnken; two infant children, Carol Marie and John William, III; brothers, Victor, Donald and Lloyd Behnken; and a sister, Ruth Droegemueller Kroning. Jay was a long-time member of Christ Lutheran Church, 7701 Candelaria NE, where services will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at 10:30 am. The Rev. Glenn Weber will officiate. BENTON -- Chief Master Sergeant Herman G. Benton USAF retired, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2005 from complications of a fall. He is preceded in death by his son Glenn Garrison Benton; his parents Herman George Benton and Beatrice Fern Garrison Benton; sister Glenna and; brother Philip Benton. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eileen McKernan Benton; daughter and son-in law, Sharon and Charles Papp; brother and sister-in law, Richard and Emiko Benton; daughter-in law, Barbara Benton Jennings; four grandchildren, Roger, Kenneth and Katherine Papp and Christina Benton; five great-grandchildren, Stephany, Chase, Kacee, Devin and Darian. Herman will be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Herman Glenn or "HG" as he was known to most of us, was born in Salina, KS., On February 8, 1919. He pursued many occupations from farming, roustabout in the oil fields to a small business owner, but he was most proud of the 23 years of service to his country beginning with the US Army Air Corp then the United States Air Force as a flight engineer. He served in WW II, the Berlin Airlift, Korean Conflict, and early Vietnam. Herman is the eighth generation of an American Veteran Family that included his brother, son, son-in-law, grandson and nephews following this proud family tradition. A memorial service will be held on Friday September 30, 2005 at the VFW Post 5890, 76 Unser Blvd, Rio Rancho, NM., at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia at a later date. BETTS -- Norman C. Betts, aged 73 of Bosque Farms, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2005 at a local hospital. Mr. Betts was born Wednesday, February 24, 1932 in Silver City, NM to Jesse and Nellie Betts. He married Marcelina M. on July 19, 1974 in Albuquerque, NM. Mr. Betts is survived by his wife of 31 years Marcy; daughter, Ernestine and husband, Gene Saavedra; granddaughter Michelle Saavedra; grandson, Gene J. Jr. and wife, Prescilla Saavedra, all of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Darlene, Dominic, and Kevin Saavedra; and one brother and three sisters. He was a retired Vice-President with Sunwest Brokerage of Albuquerque after 19 years of service. After his retirement Mr. Betts enjoyed tending to his farm and gardening. DALBEY -- Hortense Black "Mimi" Dalbey passed away quietly on August 17, 2005 at Manzano Del Sol Good Samaritan Village. She was 90 years old, born in the mining town of Dawson, New Mexico. A long time resident of Albuquerque, she graduated from Albuquerque High School class of 1933, and earned a Nursing degree from St. Joseph Hospital, Regina School of Nursing (1935). Hortense was active in Hilltop Women's Golf Association and the Albuquerque Country Club Women's Golf Association. She was also a member of Albuquerque Rose and Garden Society. She was preceded in death by her husband John B. Dalbey; and brothers, Harmon, Leo, Loren, and Bill Black. Hortense was survived by her sister, Nellie Black Crater, who has since passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2005. Hortense is survived by daughters, Carolyn "Pat" Findley of Salida, CO, and Donna Ness of Albuquerque; brothers, Phillip and John Black; nephews, Tim Crater, Jim and Bruce Black; three grandchildren, Alan Findley, Barbara Buckman, and Rebecca Cox; and five great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Lindsey Findley, Mason and Conner Buckman, and Camden Cox. FANNING -- Jean Elizabeth Viney Moffat Fanning, 85, recently of Rio Rancho and formerly of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2005. Jean is the beloved wife of James J. Fanning of Rio Rancho. She is also survived by her son, John F. Viney and daughter, Anne Elizabeth Broyles and her husband, Robert E. Broyles, all of Albuquerque; 2 granddaughters, Ashley Elizabeth Viney, of Albuquerque and Julie Elizabeth Mistretta of Tampa, FL; a dear family friend, Gloria Castillo of Albuquerque. Jean was an active member of the Assistance League of Albuquerque and Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Cremation has taken place. FRANKLIN -- Lawrence "Larry" Franklin, age 92, of Albuquerque for over 20 years, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 24, 2005. He was born in Beverly, MA on September 26, 1913 to Llewelyn and Eleanor (Wood) Franklin. He is survived by his son, George and wife, Sally, of Albuquerque; son Rev. David Franklin of Ridgefield, CT; daughter Gail Hanagan and her husband, Bill of Singapore; grandchildren Jeffrey Franklin and wife, Charity, Rebecca Wiseman and husband, Master Sergeant Sonny, Bridget Hanagan and Nora Hanagan; great-grandchildren Troy and Savanna Wiseman, Lauren, Alicia and Colin Franklin. He was preceded in death by his former wife; Josephine Cataldo Franklin and step-son Vincent James Cataldo. Jimmy's wife Anna and their children and grandchildren also survive. Larry worked for many years as an advertising manager at the Salem Evening News in Salem, MA. He embarked on a new career with the Fred Harvey Company at the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Larry worked at the Grand Canyon for over 10 years at Moqui Lodge and formed lasting friendships with fellow employees from across the United States as well as many guests from all over the world. During WWII and after, Larry served as a volunteer fireman with the Beverly Fire Department and began a lifelong interest in firefighting and fire trucks. Visitors to his residence at Westwind House were frequently invited to view his extensive collection of model fire trucks. Memorial service will take place on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at French Mortuary-Westside Chapel. GABALDON -- Mrs. Erlinda C. Gabaldon, 71, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on September 25, 2005 with her loving family by her side. Mrs. Gabaldon is survived by her two sons, Frank Gabaldon I I I and Ignacita Garcia, James Gabaldon and Wanda Otero; two grandchildren, Anthony Joseph Gabaldon and Nicolas Adan Gabaldon; many other extended family and friends. Mrs. Gabaldon was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Gabaldon. Mrs. Gabaldon was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed her family and friends. She also enjoyed visiting the casinos. A visitation for Mrs. Gabaldon will be Wednesday evening September 28, 2005 from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at San Jose de Los Duranes Mission, 2110 Los Luceros Rd. NW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m by Jimmy Rael. A final visitation will be Thursday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at San Jose de Los Duranes Mission with Mass of the Resurrection to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. by Father Jerry Plotkowski. GARCIA -- Teodoro A. Garcia "Ted" age 81, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, September 25, 2005. Born in Clovis, NM., he served his country in the US Army during WWII and was owner of Bell Service Station on Isleta. Preceded in death by his son, Juan Garcia, Ted is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Esther Garcia; children, Jose Garcia and wife, Theresa, Rita Sedillo, Maria Naranjo and husband, Robert, Steve Garcia and wife, Becky; grandchildren, Kristy, Yvette, Irene, Le Anna, Jo Ann, Christopher, Andrea, Alyssa, Lawrence, Linda and Jordanne; 20 great grandchildren; brothers, Robert Garcia and Isidro Garcia; sisters, Beatrice Hernandez, Amelia Urban, Agustina Baca; and other family members and friends who loved and will miss him. HATFIELD -- Faye. Born Margaret Faye Howerton, January 3, 1926, parents Uel and Clara Howerton of Sadela, Missouri. Faye lost her battle with pancreatic cancer on September 20, 2005 at Amber Creek in Albuquerque. Faye was a retired sales secretary of Channel 13 and is fondly remembered for her unfailingly charitable and cheerful attitude. She is survived by her husband, Don, of the home address and daughter, Karen Faber of Corrales. Graveside services have been conducted at the Howerton Family Plot in Sadela on September 23, 2005.

LUCERO -- Ernest A. Lucero, 87, passed away peacefully, but not without a long and hard fight, at his daughters home on Saturday, September 24, 2005. Ernest was born in Roy, NM. He lived in Albuquerque for 50 years and was retired from APS. He was a WWII veteran in the Navy and a boxer in his youth. He had a great sense of humor and a quick wit that always made people laugh. His favorite sayings were, "see you payday," and everything cost "a dollar three-eighty." He also had a love of nature and growing flowers, especially oriental poppies. Ernest loved his family dearly and he will be greatly missed. Ernest was predeceased by his wife Mary Lucero who died in 1973; and two brothers, Sammy and Pat Lucero. He is survived by his four children, Yolanda Julie Elembaugh and husband, Abe, Ernie Lucero and fiancee, Elizabeth McGeehan, Loyola Bessen and husband, Roger, and Mary Lucero-Hilliard and husband, James; grandchildren, Donna, Dee, David, Tara and husband, Gary, and Scarlette; five great-grandchildren, Montanna, Tana, Gabriela, Sierra, and Morgan and wife, Jamie. He was very proud of his two great-great grandchildren, Malley and Marley. He is also survived by his brother, Paul Quintana; two half brothers, Manuel and Dickie Archuleta; half sister, Mary Montano; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family. MACPHERSON -- William Herbert MacPherson, 63, died peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2005 after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Bill was born June 1, 1942 in Hoboken, NJ, grew up in Weehawken, NJ, and lived most of his working life in Lakewood and Jackson, NJ. He moved to Albuquerque in 1986. Bill retired from federal service in 1995 after 31 years as an electronics engineer at Ft. Monmouth, NJ and Kirtland AFB, NM. He was active in the Coalition for Excellence in Science and Math Education and in New Mexicans for Science and Reason, and avidly pursued interests in astronomy, history, and music. Surviving are his father, William G. MacPherson, of Weehawken, NJ; his son, James MacPherson, of Albuquerque; and his brothers, Walter MacPherson, of South Daytona, FL, and Gerald MacPherson of Totowa, NJ. His mother, Ruth Burns MacPherson, predeceased him. The family especially thanks Bill's dedicated caregivers at Sunrise Assisted Living and Presbyterian Hospice staff who cared for him during the last months of his life. A memorial service will be held at Sunrise Funeral Options, 7601 Wyoming NE, Albuquerque, at 10:00 a.m. on October 12. MONTOYA -- Dr. Juanita Duran Montoya, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2005. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Max E. Montoya; sons, Dr. Carl A. Montoya and wife, Deborah, Lloyd A. Montoya and Allen M. Montoya; grandchildren, Erin, Morgan, Breanna and Dominic; and many other family members and friends. Juanita graduated from Menaul School in 1940 and attended UNM and NM Highlands Universities, and received her Ph.D. later from UNM. She was a lifelong educator and retired most recently from NM Highlands University. Juanita was actively involved with AARP, speaking at numerous conferences around the country. She was an active member of Queen of Heaven Parish. Mass and interment services will be held Thursday, September 29, 2005 in Rainsville, NM. PAUMEN -- Charlotte Paumen was born in Downing, Wisconsin on September 10, 1932 to Rudy and Julia Mae Livingston Andress. She graduated from high school in Glenwood, Wisconsin in 1959. Charlotte was a hairdresser for 10 years. She was a loving caregiver to her husband Laurence Paumen until his death in 1988. Charlotte did not have children. She is preceded in death by her mother and brother. She is survived by relatives in California where she lived before moving to New Mexico in 1993. She resided at Vista Grande for 10 years. She will be remembered by friends she made there, especially Norma Defillipo Brown and Joe Valenzia. Charlotte enjoyed the company of friends, reading, walking and attending church. She moved to Abundant Living Senior Care, in Rio Rancho in 2003 where she touched the lives of friends and caregivers there. Charlotte passed away on September 21, 2005 after a long illness and complications from a long hospitalization. A private memorial service will be held at Vista Verde Memorial Park. RUE -- Felix Amable Rue, was born in Arabela, NM., September 3, 1941. A lifelong resident of New Mexico, he enjoyed gardening and sharing his vegetables with his friends and neighbors. Felix thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and especially with his grandchildren. He is survived by Eva Bentley; two daughters, Glenda, Becky Rue and Anthony Maldonado; one son, Dudley Rue and wife, Roberta; his mother, Mabel Sanchez; sister, Irene; brothers, Richard, Toby, Luis and Amus; sixteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; numerous other family members and friends who loved and will miss him. Services will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW., with a Rosary being recited at 7:00pm on Wednesday, September 28, 2005. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 09:00am on Thursday, September 29, 2005. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. STRATMAN -- David V. Stratman, age 71, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2005. ULIBARRI -- Frank J. Ulibarri went home to be with the Lord on September 26, 2005 at the age of 83. He was born on October 10, 1921 in New Mexico. Frank was a World War II Veteran and was given the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He is joined with his parents, Alfredo and Rita Ulibarri; sister, Libby Gifford; and brother, Alfredo Ulibarri. He is survived by his wife, Lupe Ulibarri; his children, Lucy Suarez, Henry Guzman, Sal (Chava) Guzman, Lilia Trejo, Frank L. Ulibarri and, Bonita Ulibarri; 22 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; brother, Ernesto Ulibarri; sisters, Eugenia Lopez, Genoveva Chavez, Lucy Tafoya, Antonia Cabrera and Rosina Ulibarri. He will be deeply missed by all. Visitations will be held on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. also at San Jose Catholic Church. VALENCIA -- Michael Anthony Valencia, age 32. Our "Mikey," single dad, son, brother, godfather, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 22, 2005. He was born on November 29, 1972. He is survived by the pride and joy of his life, his daughters, Nica Mikayla and Mia Marissa Valencia and Angelique Zamora; his mom, Gloria M. Valencia; his sister, Luanne "Lulu" Trevizo; brothers, Jelal K. Babaa and Leo O. Miniz; his godson and great nephew, Jonathan T. Pinkney; nephews and nieces, Jesus, Guillermo and Luana Miera, Billy Dominguez, Mohammed, Daniel and Victoria Babaa and, great niece, Emma Miranda Mae Pinkney. He is also survived by his uncles, Jesus Valencia, Tinnie and Ann Mae Valencia, Daniel Valencia, Laurence Valencia, Frank Valencia and Harold Valencia; his aunts, Sue Shively and Isabel Griego; his many cousins and other extended family; his mother-in-law, Josie Martinez and in-laws, the Lucero and Martinez families, and just as important, so many friends that to list them all would take an entire newspaper. Everyone who knew Mike was very aware that his daughters were the pride and joy of his life. Mike's friends have been so moved by his love for them, they will honor him by establishing college funds for them. Additional information in this regard will be made available as soon as possible. An open casket and visitation will be held on Wednesday at Garcia Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. A short service will take place on Friday also at Garcia Mortuary at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment of his cremated remains at Mt. Calvary Cemetery where he will be buried with his brother, John, in the Rose Garden. VICTOR -- Loma I. Victor, 93, was received by our Lord on Friday, September 23, 2005 at Brighton Gardens in Colorado Springs, CO. Loma was born May 25, 1912 in Stanley, NM to Clyde and Mae Van Scoyk. She married Frank Victor, May 2, 1933. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Beryl Van Scoyk; and two sisters, Mildred Dennisson and Gail White. She is survived by her sister, Betty Bruington-Hatch of Colorado Springs, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. Loma taught school in NM for several years before working for The First National Bank in Albuquerque, NM for 20 years. After her retirement, she moved to Elephant Butte, NM and became active in the VFW Auxiliary and the Eastern Star. In 2001, she moved to Colorado Springs, CO, where she became a resident of Brighton Gardens' Alzheimer/Health Care unit. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 1, 2005 at The Chester T. French Mausoleum, Sunset Memorial Park Chapel, 924 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87107, followed by a 2:00 p.m. chapel service. Her nephews, George Bruington, Aspen, CO; Frank Dennisson, Stanley, NM; Calvin Dennisson, Loganville, GA; Scott Dennisson, Mc Intosh, NM; Robert Duncan, Edgewood, NM; Morris McDonald, Santa Fe, NM; Richard McDonald, Las Lunas, NM; and Richard Van Scoyk, Las Vegas, NM, will serve as honorary pallbearers.
