MACPHERSON -- William Herbert MacPherson, 63, died peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2005 after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Bill was born June 1, 1942 in Hoboken, NJ, grew up in Weehawken, NJ, and lived most of his working life in Lakewood and Jackson, NJ. He moved to Albuquerque in 1986. Bill retired from federal service in 1995 after 31 years as an electronics engineer at Ft. Monmouth, NJ and Kirtland AFB, NM. He was active in the Coalition for Excellence in Science and Math Education and in New Mexicans for Science and Reason, and avidly pursued interests in astronomy, history, and music. Surviving are his father, William G. MacPherson, of Weehawken, NJ; his son, James MacPherson, of Albuquerque; and his brothers, Walter MacPherson, of South Daytona, FL, and Gerald MacPherson of Totowa, NJ. His mother, Ruth Burns MacPherson, predeceased him. The family especially thanks Bill's dedicated caregivers at Sunrise Assisted Living and Presbyterian Hospice staff who cared for him during the last months of his life. A memorial service will be held at Sunrise Funeral Options, 7601 Wyoming NE, Albuquerque, at 10:00 a.m. on October 12. Friends may make memorial donations to the charity of their choice, or to the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra (www.nmso.org).
