CASALE -- Francesca Casale went into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 19, 2004, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Cervinara, Italy on Tuesday, January 22, 1929. She had been a resident of New Mexico for 32 years. Francesca was the most loving, giving and caring mother and grandmother. Her manner of living was evidence of her deep and profound faith in God. She was preceded in death by her parents Nunzio and Raffaela DeGregorio and her brother, Giuseppe DiGregorio. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Michele "Mike" Casale; her three loving sons, Frank, Nick and Tony Casale and wife, Anita; grandchildren, Fred, Michael, Nicolette, Nunzio, Alanna and Giannico Casale; and sister, Nicolette Bello. Rosary will be recited Monday, May 24, 2004, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 25, 2004, 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church, Vermont and Claremont, with Father Ronald Bruckner, Officiant. CRAWFORD -- MaryAnn Crawford, 69, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 21, 2004. She is survived by her husband, John C. Crawford and her two daughters and their husbands, Jan Elise and Carl Cannon of Austin, Texas, and Lynn Renee, and Russell Cox of Alamo, California. She has 9 grandchildren; John Allen Cannon, Alex Cannon, Frank Cannon, Victoria Cannon, Jennifer Cannon, Cameron Cox, Regan Cox, Jonathan Cox, and Casey Cox. MaryAnn was born in Independence Missouri, June 29, 1934 to Loyal and Ella Northcott. Her father was a minister in the Christian Church so her childhood was spent in several towns in Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma concluding with her graduation from High School in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She graduated from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree in music and elementary education. She and John C. Crawford were married on November 26, 1955 in Ponca City, Oklahoma and they moved to Albuquerque in 1962 and with the exception of an 8 year residence in Danville, California they have resided in Albuquerque ever since. MaryAnn taught kindergarten and elementary grades 2, 3, and 4 early on but subsequently devoted her attention to caring for their 2 daughters. She and her family have been members of Monte Vista Christian Church since 1962. She is a long time member of the PEO organization, currently a member of Albuquerque Chapter V. She is also a past member of Albuquerque Assistance League. Her life focused on her family and their activities and more recently had expanded to include an intense passion and love for her grandchildren and all their activities. She loved to travel and was always intrigued by other parts of the world and other cultures. Her two favorite pastimes were playing bridge and tennis with her friends and intricate needlepoint designs. Her outlook was always toward helping other people even during the days of her illness. During the last stages of her illness she was extremely well cared for by Presbyterian Hospice of Albuquerque which made it possible for her to remain in her own home. Her life was beautifully lived by the depth of her relationships with her God, her husband, her children and grandchildren, and her dear friends. A Service of Celebration of her life will be held at Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE, on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at 2:00 PM. DAWSON -- Edward. Mr. Edward F. Dawson, 46, a resident of Belen, New Mexico passed away on May 21, 2004. Mr. Dawson is the beloved husband of 19 years to Mrs. Dolores Dawson. Mr. Dawson is also survived by his father, Frank Dawson and wife, Maxine; four sisters, Margaret Hewitt, Patricia Rubeck and husband, Blane, Barbara Toon and husband, Patrick, Teresa Greenberg and husband, David; sisters in law and a brother in law, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Dawson was preceded in death by his mother, Muriel Dawson. Mr. Dawson was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Memorial Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A final visitation will be Wednesday morning from 8:30 am until 9:00 am at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 1800 Martha St. NE with a Memorial Mass to be celebrated at 9:00 am. GOLDSTEIN -- Ellis Goldstein, a 93-year-old Jewish man from New York City, passed away on May 22, 2004. He and his beloved wife, Martha, moved to Albuquerque during the 1970s. Ellis and Martha are survived by Dee (daughter) and three generations of grandchildren: Tara, Rachel, Brandon, Lee Anne, Amber, Kevin, Gabriel, Justin, Jacob, and Jerica. Ellis and Martha will be missed and remembered by all.

HAMILTON -- E. F. (Gene) Hamilton, 93, passed away after a long illness. He was a native of Columbus Ohio and a resident of Rio Rancho for the last 6 1/2 years. He was a graduate of Ohio State University and captain of the Ohio State Baseball Team. He retired from the Columbus Bolt Works and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He is survived by his sister, Rita C. Hamilton currently living in Rio Rancho; his daughter, Susan and husband, Gus Lopez of Albuquerque; his son, Dr. James Hamilton M.D. and wife, Janet of Colorado Springs; three grandchildren, Andy Lopez, Issac Lopez and wife, Kristi, and Felicia Lopez. He also has 6 great-grandchildren Issac Jr., Caleb, Courtney, Savannah and Monet Lopez of Albuquerque and Brittany Lopez of Dallas, TX; and nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary Etta Cann, his mother, Rose and father, Homer; his sisters, Bea, Mary, Dorothy, Betty, Geri and brother, Norbert. HENDRYSON -- Elizabeth Stayer Margulis, December 30, 1913- April 21, 2004. Elizabeth Hendryson, national advocate for parents and children, noted public speaker and medical librarian, died in her sleep April 21, 2004, at Central Gardens in San Francisco. She was 90. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., to William Bechtel Stayer and Edna Shires Stayer, she was the fourth of five children and the only girl. When her mother died in the flu epidemic in 1918, her father moved the family to Florida, where he married Sadie Rawls, who became the mother she had lost and her best friend for life. Growing up in a family which honored reading before chores led her to graduate with honors from Plant High School in Tampa, FL, and to major in English and minor in journalism at Wesleyan College in Macon, GA. She edited the weekly Pearson Tribune, and was women's page editor of the Augusta Tribune and the Macon Telegraph & News. She married Frederick W. New of Macon in 1933. They had two children. When they divorced, she earned a master's of library science from Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh in 1941 and was children's librarian in public libraries in Brooklyn, NY. She studied medical reference at Columbia University's School of Library Science, and was assistant librarian for the Rockefeller Institute and librarian at New York Post-Graduate Medical School and Hospital of Columbia University. There she met and married her second husband, Dr. Aaron E. Margulis in 1944. The family moved in 1947 to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where Dr. Margulis was the first pathologist between Denver, Dallas and Phoenix. She joined the PTA, became president of the state organization, and in 1967, was elected president of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, which had 11 million members. She was a delegate to White House conferences on children and youth, education and aging, and in 1968, received an alumnae award for distinguished achievement from Wesleyan College. In 1969, Secretary of State William P. Rogers appointed her to the US Commission for UNICEF. Her lifelong passion was early childhood education. In the PTA Magazine in 1968, she wrote, ``My wish was that every home might become a mini-school, with its adults a well-qualified faculty.'' She showered books on her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, told stories in the Santa Fe Public Library and was children's librarian in the New Mexico State Extension Library. She was a member of the American Library Association and the Children's Services Division. After the death of Dr. Margulis in 1960, she worked in Chicago for the American Medical Association, where she met her third husband, Dr. Irvin E. Hendryson. After their marriage in 1965, they moved to Albuquerque, where he was assistant dean at the University of New Mexico Medical School. They also lived in Fort Defiance, AZ, on the Navajo Reservation working for the Navajo Health Authority. He established an emergency medical system and developed a plan for an all-Indian medical school. She was a circuit rider librarian in medical reference. Dr. Hendryson died in 1976. She was medical librarian at the UNM Health Science Center Library from 1977 until her retirement. In 1980, she was named New Mexico Librarian of the Year by the New Mexico Library Association. She was a dedicated volunteer, including for the Santa Fe Maternal Child and Health Center, the Women's Auxiliary to the Santa Fe County Medical Society, KNME PBS Channel 5 in Albuquerque and the UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center. She volunteered at the Erna Ferguson branch library and proudly served as word pronouncer for the Albuquerque Spelling Bee. During her retirement, she traveled to Europe, played bridge and dined with her many friends, especially the Albuquerque Birthday Girls, attended the Balloon Fiesta and read to her first great-grandchild, Harry New of Santa Fe. She was a fan of newspapers, of ``Jeopardy,'' ``Wheel of Fortune'' and a longtime ticket holder to the Albuquerque Symphony. She loved learning, studying everything from belly dancing, New Mexico history and ``Understanding Football for Women.'' She loved knitting, reciting poems, playing four hands on the piano and singing. She led a chorus of ``O Fair New Mexico'' at every grandchild's wedding, and until she died, sang the lyrics of her favorite songs. Her niece, Glenda Stayer Wood, said, ``she loved cats, books, chocolate, males, Indian jewelry, mountains, and was always center stage at any gathering.'' She leaves her children: Dr. Peter S. New of Punta Gorda, FL, and Elizabeth Weld Nolan of San Francisco; her grandchildren: Robert New of Gloucester, MA; William New and wife Darla Silva, formerly of Albuquerque, now of Takoma Park, MD; Patrick New and wife Jennifer Brookes of Santa Fe; Sarah Weld of Oakland, CA; Dr. Rose Weld of North Reading, MA; step-grandchildren David Nolan of Beverly, MA; Ellen Nolan of Washington, DC; and Peter Nolan of Monterey, CA; and Chris Veator of Cape Coral, FL; and nine great-grandchildren. LAFONT -- James LaFont joined our Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 20, 2004. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and graduated from NMMI Junior College in 1994 with an Associates Degree. He attended UNM and was working on his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. He managed Desert Hills Apartments for 7 years and worked for LaFont Trucking, LLC for many years. James was a fun loving son, brother, and friend and will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and great sense of humor. James was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Cedelia Martinez; his paternal grandparents, James LaFont and Reba Wrather. He is survived in death by his parents James and Juanita LaFont; his brother Mark and his sister Carla LaFont all of Belen; his maternal grandparents, Carlos and Frances Martinez of Taos, N.M. He is also survived by many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. All services will take place at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Monday, May 24, 2004 with a visitation at 6:45 p.m. and rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Cerro New Mexico Catholic Cemetery at a later date. LODGE -- Lawrence L. (Nick) Lodge, 91, a resident of Albuquerque since 1955, died Saturday, May 22, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Hazel of Albuquerque; sister, Mary Lodge; brother-in-law, Oliver and Marie Montgomery, niece and nephew all of Columbus, Ohio; special friend, Jackie Batt of Albuquerque; and many other friends. Mr. Lodge attended Ohio State University. He worked in the field of electronics at the former Antenna Research Lab in Columbus, Ohio before coming to Albuquerque with Sandia Labs, retiring in 1973. He had been a licensed amateur radio operator since 1931 and was a member of the American Radio Relay League, the QCWA, and the Upper Rio VHF Society. He was a member of the Ohio National Guard and a veteran of WWII, staff sergeant with the 83rd division of the 324th F.A. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at a later date. PEMBROKE -- Louise R. Pembroke, 93, longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Oliver (Coach) L. Pembroke and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Rickabaugh and brother, Phillip. Louise retired from teaching in Grants, Alamogordo and in Albuquerque at Washington Junior High, Valley and Highland High. Ollie and Louise enjoyed retirement with extensive traveling in Europe, Mexico, South America, China and Australia. Memorial services will be held on May 29, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. at First Unitarian Church, 3701 Carlisle NE. The Reverend Christine Robinson officiating. SULLIVAN -- Edith Sullivan, August 21, 1912 - May 19, 2004. Edith Nora Fisher Sullivan, 91, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, in Albuquerque. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 25 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. Her husband, Robert Dan Sullivan, and son, Robert J. Sullivan, proceeded her in death. Edith always enjoyed being in business. Two years after her high school graduation, in the middle of the great depression, she opened a grocery store which grew into a thriving business. In 1952 the family purchased the LaGuna Vista Lodge in Eagle Nest which they owned and operated for 27 years. Edith and Bob were a moving force in the community and the development of the Chamber of Commerce. They were tireless in their efforts to bring new business and events to the resort area. Edith loved gardening, playing bridge, and fishing. Her favorites were fishing trips to Vermejo Park with the family and long-time friend, George Nickel. One of the proudest times of her life was the dedication in 2003 of a flagpole and park area in Eagle Nest in memory of her son Robert. She was the Grand Marshall of the 4th of July parade and perfected the "Queen Mum" wave! Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Pat and Carl Jones of Vancouver, Wa; granddaughters Eda Eggeman of Redding, CA; Darcy Eggeman of Thousand Oaks, CA; granddaughter and husband Pamela and Bill Harris of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law Krista Sullivan, Eagle Nest; sister Ruth Erke, Warren, OH; brother Fred Fisher, Columbus, OH, and step-brother George John, Niles, OH. Her sister, Violet James is deceased. Memorial contributions may be made to the Assistance League of Albuquerque where Edith was a 20-year member.

THORN -- Keith Roy Thorn, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1968, died Sunday, May 16, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Lou Thorn of Albuquerque; son, Fred Roy Thorn and wife, Barbara of Tempe, AZ; grandchildren, Debbie Hoyum of Chandler, AZ, Mark Thorn of Louisville, KY and Chris Thorn of Mesa, AZ; great-grandsons, Kaleb Hoyum of Chandler, AZ and Austin Thorn of Louisville, KY; brothers Bill Thorn and wife, Carol of White Rock, NM, Charles Thorn and wife, Karen of Sterling, CO and Wayne Thorn and wife, Ursula of Santa Fe, NM. Keith enjoyed bowling and square dancing, and was a member of the Harmony Lodge #1 of the Oddfellows and the Triple Link Rebekah Lodge #10. He was also a member of the Eastern Hills Baptist Church.
