Barela -- Jose "Andres" Esquipula (Skip) Barela, born July 1, 1937 to the late Thomas and Rebecca Barela. Went to be with our Lord on September 17, 2001 at the family home in Algodones. He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia of 44 years; also his loving children, daughters, Liz and fiancée, Sixto and Margaret Martinez; Sons, Michael and fiancée, Mae, David and wife, Valerie, George and wife Brenda and Albert and wife Becky. His loving grandchildren, Rosanna and Adrian Armijo, Angelica, Dominique and Danielle Barela, Melissa, Julianna, Valerie, Joseph, Brandy and Ashley Barela. His great-grandchildren, Lorenzo, Stephen, and Destiny; also surviving are his sisters, Genieve and Joe Chavira, Emma and Joe Jaramillo; brother, Robert and Viola Barela, Also survived are his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, several nephews and nieces and many, many friends. Skip was a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather and a good friend who will be missed by us all. He retired from the Soil Conservation Service of 28 years; he also worked for the Algodones Water Association for 27 Years. He was a great man always willing to give a helping hand, he was always there to help people and he will be greatly missed by us all. Visitations will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2001 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning September 20, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Algodones Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sixto Diaz, Bobby Barela, Danny Jaramillo, Marvin T. Archibeque, Paul Cde Baca, and Joe Nieto. Bartow -- Erwin C. (Bud) Bartow, age 85, died Thursday, August 30, 2001 in Port Mansfield, TX. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; and children, Charles Bartow and wife, Margie of Albuquerque, Rita Kirkland and husband, Bob of Hillard, FL, Orivs Bartow and wife, Sheila of Edgewood, NM; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Bud was born in Wisconsin in 1915, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII and he moved to Albuquerque in 1947. He was active in auto racing in the 1950's at Speedway Park as car owner and builder. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol during the 1950's and 60's. He retired from International Harvester Trucks in Albuquerque, 1979. He taught diesel mechanics at TVI until 1983 and then retired to Port Mansfield, TX. Cremation has taken place. Graveside Services and Burial will be held on September 21, 2001, 11:00 a.m. at Sandia Memory Garden, 9500 San Pedro NE Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Blakely -- Judith "Judi" Blakely-Blaney died on September 16, 2001 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born in Cheyenne, WY and graduated from Belen High School and the University of Albuquerque. She served as a nurse during the Vietnam War. Judi was currently employed at Presbyterian Home Care. She was preceded in death by her father, William Blakely; and grandmother, Betty Baker. Judi is survived by her husband, Richard Blaney of Albuquerque; her mother, Betty Blakely of Belen, NM; six children, Gerald Griener of Colorado, Debbie Williams, Rick Blaney, Ronette Olson, Danielle McNut and Dawn Garrett, all of Albuquerque; three sisters, Rosalee Sims and husband, Bill and Alice Wyatt and husband, Ralph, all of Clovis NM and Linda Horne and husband, Doug of Los Lunas, NM; best friend, Sue Fleming of Albuquerque; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous friends and people she touched in her life. Everyone she met was impacted by her kindness and honesty of heart. Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2001 at Chapel of Sandia, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE, with Deacon David Allen officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood, NM at Mt. Driggers -- Andrew S. "Andy" Driggers, a lifetime resident of Albuquerque, died on September 15, 2001. He was an active member of Risen Savior Catholic Community where he served as head usher. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus and was a driver and choir member at Palo Duro Senior Citizens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Stella Sedillo Driggers; and a son, Edward. Mr. Driggers is survived by his wife, Maria Driggers of Albuquerque; nine children, Steve Driggers and wife, Troung and Andrew Driggers and wife, Elaine, all of Albuquerque, Dianne Quaglia and husband, Michael of Niagara Fall, NY, Charlene Puyda and husband, Mickey, Gloria Razo, Joe Galvan and wife, Bertha, Alvaro Galvan and wife, Yolanda and Pilar Trias and husband, Jose, all of California, and Maria Benavidez of Rio Rancho, NM; two sisters, Rose Hernandez and Martha Munoz, both of California; three brothers, Louis Duran and Sipriano Sedillo, both of Albuquerque and Robert Sedillo of California; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Andy is also survived by a host of friends at his church, the Knights of Columbus and Palo Duro Senior Center. Ekenberg -- Roland W. Ekenberg, 85, a 36-year resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, September 3, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Martha Ekenberg; daughter, Ellen Dooley and husband, Michael of Washington; sons, Robert Ekenberg and wife, Dianne of Colorado Springs, CO, William Ekenberg and wife, Jill, of Denver, CO, and Dan Ekenberg and wife, Julie of Boise, ID; grandchildren, Aaron, Christopher, Travis, Nathan, Chelsey, Nicholas, Katy, and Amanda; and twin brothers, Allan Ekenberg and wife, Shirley, and Warren Ekenberg and wife, Lee; and sister-law, June Ekenberg. He was preceded in death by his brother, Herbert Ekenberg. Mr. Ekenberg was born in Chicago and served in the United States Army during WWII as a Tech Sergeant. He worked for Sears for 30 years until his retirement in 1981. Since retirement, he enjoyed fishing, the Chicago Cubs, and traveling. Eubanks -- Virginia (Ginny) Kay Eubanks, 49, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2001 after a heroic ten month struggle with liver cancer. Ginny was born and raised in Las Cruces, the beloved youngest child of Virginia Eubanks and her deceased husband, C.E. Steve Eubanks. A gifted saxophonist, Ginny won a full music scholarship to Arizona State University when she graduated from Mayfield High School in 1970. She graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Education from ASU in 1974, earned a master's degree, and went on to earn her EdS. in Educational Administration at UNM. Ginny was a superb, dedicated educator who devoted 25 years to Albuquerque Public Schools teaching second and third grade at Carlos Rey Elementary School as a reading specialist and consultant for Wilson and Taylor Middle Schools; Assistant Principal and then, in 1996, Principal of Eisenhower Middle School. Ginny is survived by her mother, Virginia Eubanks; her husband, Burton Spiller; her step-daughter, Laurel Spiller; her sister and brother, Stephanie and Brad Eubanks; her brothers-in-law, Rex Spiller, Craig Spiller, and Bob Black; her sister-in-law, Merrill Jane Kirsch; her parents-in-law, Jane and John Spiller; and her nieces and nephews, Carrie Eubanks Wiedermann, Glenn Eubanks, Samantha Black, and Terrick Kirsch. We will miss Ginny, the person whose love for her family and friends, beautiful smile, and joy in being, made all of our lives happier. Franks -- Mary Franks, 90, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001. She is survived by her sons, Rev. Raymond L. Franks Jr. and wife, Bethal of Albuquerque and Rev. E. Dale Franks of Santa Rosa, CA; grandchildren, Dale Franks Jr. of San Diego, CA, Rev. Brenton Franks and wife, Ruth of Albuquerque; Michon Henegar and husband, Rev. Mark Henegar of Roswell; great-grandchildren, Dillan and Shalyn Henegar, Tyler and Ashley Franks; and brothers, Leo Grubbs of Las Cruces and Bill Grubbs of Tucson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. R.L. Franks; brother, Daniel Grubbs; and two sisters, Esther Ferguson and Effie May Hyman. Mrs. Franks was a pioneer woman minister, traveling with her husband and conducting revivals in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. They also pastored together in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. After retiring, R.L. Franks built churches throughout the Southwest with Mary at his side. Graves -- Lula Mae Graves, age 76, passed away Friday evening in a local hospital. She was born October 3, 1942 in Cuba, New Mexico to the late Joel W. and Esther Lois (Garrison) Hale. She is survived by one son, Kenneth W. Graves of Bernalillo, New Mexico; one sister, Mary Pohl of Albuquerque; one brother, Marion Hale of Alamosa, Colorado; one grandson, Kenneth W. Graves Jr. of Portland, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Ana Lisa Graves, John Ross Graves and Ashley Marie Graves. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Irwin -- Floyd L. Irwin, 95, June 6, 1906 - September 9, 2001, died on September 9, 2001 at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Albuquerque, NM where he had lived since 1997, moving there from North Liberty, IN. Floyd was born on June 6, 1906, in North Township, Marshall County, to Riley E. and Rosa Ellen Berger Irwin. He attended schools in Teegarden and graduated from Walkerton High School in 1924. On November 14, 1936, Floyd and Edith J. Shawhan of Pike County, IN, were married. They lived in Logansport and Plymouth prior to moving to Albuquerque. Edith died in 1981. Floyd worked for the Indiana Motor Bus Company as a driver and maintenance supervisor until 1962. After moving to New Mexico, he worked for the Sandia Corp. as an electronics technician until his retirement to his farm near Petersburg, IN, in 1970. From 1972 to 1997, he was caretaker of his sister's farm near North Liberty, IN. Floyd was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He is survived by a son and a daughter, James Irwin and his wife, Roberta, of Santa Fe, NM and Karla Cates and her husband, William of Albuquerque; grandson, Vernon and Sunny Reaser, Phoenix, AZ; granddaughter, Mindy and Arthur Ortega of Albuquerque also survive; one great-grandson; four great-granddaughters; and a sister, Irene Stetler of Plymouth, IN survive as well. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse; and by three brothers, Ralph, Jacob and Alfred; three sisters, Hazel Williams, Beulah Starner and Clara Irwin have also died. Visitation will be held on Friday evening September 14, 2001 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, IN. Katakofsky -- H.V. Katakofsky, 80, a resident of Albuquerque for 31 years, died Friday, September 14, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Laura B. Katakofsky, of Albuquerque; sons, Martin Katakofsky and Alan Katakofsky, both of Albuquerque; and sister, Flo Zaslow, of Bull Head City, AZ. Mr. Katakofsky Served in World War II in theSignal Corps of the Army. He owned and operated L & M Carburetor Shop for 27 years. Upon retirement, he worked for Rio Grande until October 2000. Mr. Katakofsky was an avid bowler and bowled a perfect game in 1975, of which he was very proud. Macias -- Rafael Macias "Memine", 69, went home to the Lord on September 16, 2001 in Albuquerque. Rafael was born in El Paso, TX on October 24, 1931. He is survived by his wife, Socorro G. Macias; sons, Ralph Macias Jr, Charles E. Macias and Arthur Macias; daughters, Yolanda Romero and husband, Ceasar and Carol Macias; grandchildren, Francisco, Randy, Cristy, Ronald, Ruben, Charles and Sabrina; great-grandchildren, Trey, Alexandria, Trevor and Alonzo. Martinez -- Jesse Michael Martinez, 20-years-old, beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, grandson and friend, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2001 in Albuquerque. Sagrestano -- James A. Sagrestano, 87, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2001. He was a resident of Belen. James was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th degree, and served in the U.S. Army in WWII in the 28th Infantry Division Signal Corps. He retired from Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage, NY where he helped build the Lunar Module, the F14 Navy Fighter plane, and various other aircraft. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen in 1991. James is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth of the family home; Margaret Marano and her husband, William of Shoreham, NY; one grandson, Billy Marano, of Shoreham, NY; and one sister, Lucy Colontino, of East Brunswick, NJ. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews. A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2001 at 5:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home. A Final Viewing will be held at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2001 at Romero Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 20, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gilbert Torres and the Knights of Columbus. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Mass cards or donations be made to Our Lady of Belen Cemetery Committee. Tanner -- E. Richard Tanner (Dick), a 40-year resident of Albuquerque passed away after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Janet Tanner; mother-in-law, Connie Beutler; father-in-law, Leroy Beutler and wife, Jan; sisters-in-law, Kathy MacGregor and husband, George; Ann Marie Fredrichson and husband, Ralph, and Karen Beutler; niece, Heather; loving companions, Sara and Allison; and Dawn Brazzel and husband, Turner, Patrick Shanklin and wife, Terri, Kathy Kelly and son, Phillip, and Lawson Shanklin and wife, Karen. Dick was born in El Paso, TX on November 29, 1930. He graduated in 1952 from NMSU with a B.A. Business/Minor in Economics. Dick was employed by Frank Papen & Co. in Las Cruces from 1950 to 1958. In October 1958, he opened his own insurance agency. In 1961, he sold the agency and attended UNM Law school. He was employed at Sutin, Thayer and Browne attorneys from 1964 to 1968. In July 1968, he opened his own law practice and continued practicing law full time until July 1977, at which time he and his wife, Janet purchased Lomas Bowling Center-now Leisure Bowl. He continued his law practice part time and operated Leisure Bowl with his wife until his death. From 1968 to 1978, Dick had been the chairman of the State Bar Insurance Commission. From 1988 to 1990, he was the Treasurer for Bowling Proprietors Assoc. of America. He served on the Legislative Commission, Constitution and By-Laws Commission, and the Budge Finance Commission, from 1988 to 1996, while a member of BPAA. Dick loved everything and everyone involved in not only the game of bowling, but the SPORT of bowling. During his bowling proprietor career, he hosted 22 regional and four national bowling tournaments at Leisure Bowl. He was an active supporter of the Albuquerque Men's and Women's Bowling Associations. The only other thing Dick enjoyed more than bowling was fishing! His gift of humor and laughter, his easygoing and friendly manner, as well as his genuine love for people will be missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2001, 2:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. A reception and farewell party will be held immediately following at Leisure Bowling Center, 7400 Lomas Blvd. NE. Wayne -- Richard "Tubby" Wayne, 61, a resident of Albuquerque and Rio Rancho for 31 years, passed away on September 16, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Adelina Wayne; sons, Javier Escalera and Salvador Wayne of Albuquerque; daughters, Sally Nathanson and husband, Richard of Rio Rancho; and Susie Wayne of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Lauren and Dinah Nathanson; brothers, Robert F. Wayne Jr. and wife, Shenda of South Carolina, David Wayne and wife, Sandy of Atlanta, GA, and Steven Wayne of Texas; sister, Janet Methvin and husband, John of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Edith; brother, Peter Wayne; and Aunt, Janet Boyse. Richard was member of Calvary Chapel & the Silver Saints Group and The Tijeras Golf Course Association. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years followed by 20 years with the Department of Defense Civil Service. Tubby loved golf, traveling, and spending time with family, he was a Vietnam Veteran and took his patriotism and dedication to his country a step beyond his call to duty. Services will be held, Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW (2 blks North of Paseo Del Norte) with Pastor Chip Lusko Officiating. Friends may visit Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. before the service. Burial will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. following the service.
