Barela -- La Jara, Colorado resident, Crestino"Chris" F. Barela, 66, passed away August 27, 2000 at the Conejos County Hospital in La Jara. Chris was born on February 15, 1934 in Los Sauces, Colorado, the son of Santiago Barela and Maria Rita Marquez Barela. Mr. Barela was united in marriage of Mary F. Ortiz on June 12, 1965 in Taos. Chris was enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Barela lived in Chimayo for 35 years and leaves many friends and neighbors there. Chris retired from the State Farm Insurance Agency on March 31, 2000 after 26 years as an Agent, after retirement, he was in the process of moving to his beloved San Luis Valley. He was also a member of the American Legion, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, square dancing, visiting and helping people, participating in church functions, and spending times with his loving family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife, Mary F. Barela of the family home; one daughter, Veronica (Lawrence) Apodaca of Albuquerque; one son, Jack A. Barela of Denver, CO; two grandsons, Anthony J. Barela, Chris Barela, both of Santa Fe; one granddaughter, Monique Apodaca of Albuquerque; three sisters, Viola (Frank) Romero of Denver, CO, Lorraine (Ken) Huard of Colorado Springs, CO, Gloria (Greg) Archunde of Albuquerque; one brother, Richard (Alice) Barela of Denver, CO. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Chris was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Gina Barela. A Vigil service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2000, 7:00 p.m., at Saint Joseph Church in Capulin. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 31, 2000, 2:00 p.m., at Saint Joseph Church in Capulin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chris Barela Memorial Scholarship Fund at Valley National Bank in Espanola, NM 87532. Bassett -- George L. Bassett, 83, a lifelong resident of Edgewood, died Sunday, August 27, 2000. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Cooper of Albuquerque, Linnie Malott of San Dimas, CA, and Eunice King of Amarillo; brother, Carl Bassett of Edgewood; and 15 nieces and nephews. George was born October 1, 1916 in what was then known as Venus, NM, but was later renamed Edgewood. His parents, William Oscar and Clara May Bassett homesteaded their land in 1912. George completed his formal education at Venus Number One School. He then enrolled in a technical program in California, where he specialized in welding and mechanical work. When he returned to Edgewood, George started a welding shop. Through the years, he acquired extensive land holdings and he was engaged in ranching and farming for over 55 years. In 1991, Mr. Bassett was awarded a certificate of recognition for his many years of service with the Edgewood Soil and Water Conservation District. He operated much of the equipment that built numerous earthen dams throughout the Estancia Valley. In later years, he developed several residential sub-divisions. Mr. Bassett was a WWII veteran in the Army Air Force and he was a longtime member of the American Legion in Moriarty. Services will be held Thursday, August 31, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Edgewood, with Pastor Richard Crow officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain Valley Cemetery. Brown -- Theodore R. Brown, 94, passed away peacefully as he slept August 27 at 4:00 a.m. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth, his sons James Brown, Ted F. Brown, Charles F. Brown all of Albuquerque and his daughter Ellie Rucker of Austin, Texas, his sister Hazel Brown, brother, Clarence"Brownie" of Pueblo, Colo., 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were, his brothers Carroll of Colorado Springs and, Fay of Fresno, Calif., and his sisters Myrtle T. and Ruth K. Brown. A resident of Albuquerque for 80 years, Ted was born in Waubaunsee, Kansas August 31, 1906 to Lyon James Brown and Mary Letty McAlister. Ted's family left Kansas in a covered wagon, headed for the Land of Enchantment. His father opened a second hand store on Gold Avenue. At age 14 Ted took his first job in Albuquerque, delivering telegrams on a bicycle. He built New Mexico's largest highway construction company, Brown Construction Company. His orange colored equipment built much of New Mexico's Interstate highway system. He broke new ground by beginning the first employee profit sharing plan in NM construction industry. During WWII he built airports, bunkers, towers, and runways for the domestic war effort. At one point he was building one airfield every 90 days. He was selected to build the top secret project at Trinity Site where the first Atomic bomb was exploded. Ted had a special interest for the underprivileged, the underdog, and those who couldn't help themselves. He supported the Navajo Indians financially, spiritually and medically at a time when few people had even heard of a Navajo, much less a Hogan. He supported Albuquerque Rescue Mission, as well as missions in Guatemala, Mexico, India and Africa. He was a founding member of Albuquerque's Grace Church, President of Associated Contractors of New Mexico, and a founding director of Mountain States Mutual Casualty Co. Services will be held Friday, 2:00 p.m., at Hoffmantown Baptist Church, 8888 Harper NE, with Pastor Ken Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Eldon Banks, Charles Bennett, Melvin Fitzgerald, Bynard Fox, Jim Rightley, and C.D. Thurston. Bustamante -- 1911-2000 Jose Antonio Bustamante, 89, a resident of Lodi, California, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2000. Jose grew up as a rancher and a cowboy in the Santa Rita area. He loved New Mexico, horses and telling his grandchildren stories about his time spent as a cowboy. He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad where he worked as a care inspector. His parents, Jorge and Casimira Bustamante; his son, Leo Bustamante; his twin sister, Prudencia; his sister, Mary Carrillo; his brothers, Julian, Daniel, and Herman Bustamante; and his first two wives, Bernarda Lopez and Adela Castillo, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Emma Bustamante of Lodi, CA; his daughters, Sarah Chavira of Barstow, CA, Ernestina Sisneros and husband, Eliseo of Abo, NM, Rosie Sisneros and husband, Abenicio of Belen, Josie Garcia of Belen, and Teresa Maupin and husband, Tom of Lone Pine, CA; his sons, George Bustamante and wife, Linda of Barstow, CA, Manuel Bustamante of Idaho, Ruben Sanchez and wife, Yolanda of Barstow, CA, Jose D. Griego -- Mrs. Eloisa (Nana) Griego, born August 6, 1903, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 29, 2000. Native of Alameda, lifelong member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, where she attended daily Mass many years, belonged to the Blue Army and Padre Pio groups. Dedicated homemaker, beloved mother of eight children, grandmother of 22, great-grandmother of 26, great-great-grandmother of 15, and Godmother of ten. Mrs. Griego was preceded in death by her parents, Abel and Gertrude Lucero; husband of 68 years, Jesus Griego; infant daughters, Estellita and Cecilia; sons, Samuel and Thomas Griego; grandsons, Steven Sisneros and Bobby Griego; and great-grandson, Henry Jaramillo. She is survived by her caregivers, daughter, Sylvia Griego and granddaughter, Debbie Sisneros; son, Robert Griego and wife, Bertha; daughters, Mary Martinez and husband, Henry, and Mable Sisneros and husband, Frank; daughter-in-law, Lena Griego; grandchildren she raised, Robert Martinez and wife, Ruth, and Roseannette Bentz; grandchildren, Sandy and Edward Sisneros, Cecelia Jaramillo, Diana Montano, Joseph, Thomas, James, Gerald, Samuel, Jesse, Glen, Gerard and Michael Griego, Rosella, Christina, David, Ronald and Peter Martinez; brother, Fidel Lucero; sisters, Silveria Apodaca, Merlinda Bazan, Rose Jaramillo, Mary Lovato and Lucy Rocco; and many nieces and nephews. Gurule -- Santiago Gurule, born January 24, 1960 in Albuquerque, died August 24, 2000 in Dallas, Texas. Santiago attended Albuquerque Academy, Austin College, Texas Wesleyan University and Middlebury College. He lived in Mexico, France and Japan, and traveled extensively throughout the world. His accomplishments include the mastery of eight languages. He was a gifted teacher and committed voice for diversity and multiculturalism. He taught at St. Pius High School in Albuquerque, and in the last years of his life, Santiago worked as the Director of International Students at the University of Texas at Dallas, and most recently, as the Director of Multicultural Life at the Episcopal School of Dallas. He also taught Spanish and French at ESD as teaching was always his passion. Santiago was preceded in death by his father, Frutoso Gurule; his brother, Jesse Gurule; and his sister, Lorraine Valles. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Gurule; his sister, Isabel and husband, John J. Vigil; and his brother, Rudy Gurule and countless devoted family members and friends. Santiago expressed a special devotion to his nieces and nephew. Services will be held at St. Edwin's Church, 2105 Barcelona Rd. SW, Saturday at 12:00 noon. Ingram -- Orvella Jeane (Jeanie) Ingram, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, passed away August 29, 2000. Her father, Lester L. Pugh predeceased her August 3, 1987. Also her four grandparents, Albert F. Pugh, Ada M. Pierce Pugh, Clay L. Profitt and Lida M. Carr Profitt. She is survived by her mother, Violet L. Profitt Pugh from Bartlesville, OK. Jeanie is also survived by her husband of almost 50 years, George Edwin Ingram; her daughter, Linda Jeane Walton; her grandson, David Nicholas Walton; her son, Bryan Allen Ingram; her grandsons, Kristopher Bryan Ingram and Stephen Allen Ingram, all of Albuquerque. Her daughter's husband is William A. (Buddy) Walton III and her son's wife is Bonnie Evans Ingram. Her brother, Larry L. Pugh and his wife, Sandra live in Smyer, TX. Another sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ingram Hensley lives in Dallas, TX. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Jeanie was born September 22, 1932 in Bartlesville, but was raised and attended schools in Oklahoma City, OK. She also attended the University of Oklahoma with George. She married George, February 10, 1951 while he was in the Air Force. They married at a chapel on Lackland AFB and then they lived in San Antonio, TX for four years. After attending OSU in Stillwater, OK, they moved to Albuquerque, June 4, 1957. Jeanie was very creative. She loved to garden and she fired beautiful ceramics to decorate her new and most recent home at 8915 Greenarbor Rd. NE. She created the architectural plans for this home, which she and George built four years ago. She enjoyed advanced square dancing, country-western dancing, line-dancing, and round-dancing. She also traveled extensively. Her greatest enjoyment was playing card games and board games with her grandsons. Moser -- Robert H."Bob" Moser (Brigadier General, Retired), 78, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, August 27, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wanda Jackson Moser of Albuquerque; daughters, Judy Perkins of Arlington, TX, Teri Harrelson and husband, Allen of Carbondale, CO, and Deborah Lovelace and husband, Ray of Tigard, OR; brother, Gene Moser and wife, LaVerne of Park City, UT; four grandsons; two granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Moser was preceded in death by his son, John Robert Moser. Mr. Moser retired in 1975 as Brigadier General after a long career in the Army. He served in Panama, North Africa, and Alaska during WWII, Korea and the Vietnam Conflict. His interests after retirement included photography, computers, welding and teaching Sunday School. He also served as Chairman of Trustees of the New Mexico Electricians Retirement Benefit Fund. Bob loved gadgets and could fix anything. He was a longtime member of Toast Masters and First Baptist Church. Mr. Moser was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church, 101 Broadway NE, with Rev. Dennis Lihte officiating. Murphy -- Our beloved Lola Lorene Murphy, 75, was called by our Lord on Friday, August 25, 2000. She was born Monday, September 1, 1924 in Montezuma, Kansas to Hugh and Laura Elliott. She was the fifth of ten children. She moved to Albuquerque in 1940. She married her beloved husband, Hanibal Murphy in 1944 and he preceded her in death in December, 1977. Lola was known for her love and giving spirit. Her home was a refuge to many throughout the years as she extended kindness and compassion to those who crossed her path. She showed remarkable strength and courage through ill periods. Lola was a joyful Christian and faithful member of Phillips Chapel C.M.E. Church and a founding member of Winona Art and Study Club. She loved jewelry making, cooking, traveling, shopping, puzzles, animals, gardening and fishing. She is survived by two sisters, Opal Smith of Albuquerque, Edith Harrison of Rialto, CA; two brothers, Merle Elliott and wife, Julia of Albuquerque and Pat Elliott and wife, Glenna of Rialto, CA; two daughters, Laura Lipscomb and husband, Donald, Cleonis Farmer of Albuquerque; five step-sons, John Murphy, Clarence Murphy, Eddie Murphy, Joe Murphy, Freddie Murphy of Albuquerque; two step-daughters, Lela Mayfield of Poughkeepsie NY and Dollie Caldwell of Compton, CA; four grandchildren, Melanie Lipscomb, Tierney Lipscomb, Michelle Presser, all of Albuquerque, and Carlester Farmer of Chula Vista, CA; four great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, family and friends. Noble -- Kathryn"Kay" L. Noble, 83, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, and a former resident of Hobbs, NM, died Tuesday, August 29, 2000. She is survived by her daughters, Judy Riggs and husband, Gene of Ohio and Betty Haynes of New Mexico; grandchildren, Sheryl Lynn Upton, Harold Allen Noble, Dale Lee Noble, Kenny Ray Riggs and Jason E. Riggs; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother, Joseph Duganich. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold V. Noble Sr.; son, Harold Leon Noble; and five sisters. Shroyer -- Wanda Lee Shroyer, 55, went to be with our Lord on August 29, 2000 after a two year struggle with cancer. Born September 1, 1944 in Stuttgart, Arkansas to Frank and Marie Ramsey. Wanda was raised in Little Rock, Arkansas and Houston, Texas. She married Kedrick Shroyer on February 11, 1964. They moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1966, after the birth of their first child, Jeffery; two daughters, Kealie and Sheila were born in Cheyenne. Wanda was devoted to her husband, children and her church. She moved with her family to Thermopolis, Wyoming in 1970, when her husband became the Pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy. The family returned to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1972 to take over the pastorate in that town. In 1976, the family moved to Guernsey, Wyoming again to pastor. IN Guernsey, Wanda worked as the high school secretary and touched many lives with her honesty and humor. She was actively involved in the church, school and community of Guernsey. Wanda gave much of her time to Bible study and loved to teach the principles of the Bible. She would teach God's word to anyone who would listen or stand still. In 1983, Wanda left her school job to become the owner of Daylight Donut in Wheatland, Wyoming. She enjoyed cooking and making special treats for each member of her family. In 1989, Wanda and her husband chose to leave the Wyoming winters and moved to Albuquerque to a new pastorate. In Albuquerque, Wanda worked as an Administrative Assistant at Chase Candle Company and at Southwest Distributing. She taught Sunday school and Bible study in her local church. Wanda is survived by her husband, Kedrick Shroyer of Espanola; her children, Jeffery Shroyer of Denver, CO, Kealie Shroyer of Albuquerque, and Sheila and Michael Sherwood of Plano, TX; two grandchildren, Mark and Kelsey. She is also survived by her mother, Marie Ramsey Brock; and siblings, Frank and Virginia Ramsey, Kenneth Ramsey, Gary Ramsey, Vivian and Ray Gill, Don and CC Ramsey; and Steven and Tammy Ramsey, all of Houston, TX. The service for Wanda will be on Friday, September 1, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd., at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. Interment will follow in Vista Verde Memorial Park. Arrangements by Vista Verde Mortuary, Rio Rancho.

Twaddle -- Ruth E. Twaddle, 78, resident of Albuquerque for 58 years, passed away Friday, August 25, 2000. Ruth is survived by her husband, Robert Twaddle; one son, Steve Twaddle of Mojave Valley, AZ; one daughter, Barbara Twaddle of Irving, TX; two granddaughters, Lauren Elkins of Dallas, TX and Sydney Rose Twaddle of Mojave Valley, AZ; and many friends. Ruth retired from AT&T. She was active many years in Junior Rodeo. Memorial services will be held at the Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 1, 2000. Memorial contributions may be made to the Boys Ranch of New Mexico.

Vivian -- Leslie J. Vivian went to be with our Lord, August 24, 2000. He was born in Carsonville, Michigan, May 30, 1921, to Mary Meyers and Leslie Vivian. He was a WWII Veteran, a loving father and a good friend. He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Joyous Vivian; his sisters, Bernice Baldwin and Doris Early. He is survived by his brother, William Wendall Vivian; his daughters, Marilyn Jean Vargo and Vickie L. Krause, her husband, Albert L. Krause; and his only two grandchildren, Albert and Andrew Krause, whom he dearly loved. A Memorial sevice will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Edgewood, Sunday, September 3, 2000, at 3:00 p.m.
