Adkins -- Betty Louise Adkins, age 74, resident of Albuquerque since 1953, passed away suddenly at home on July 9, 2000. She was preceded in death by her father, Cecil Whitney; mother, Macel Whitney; and sister, Mary Jane Cottrell. Betty married her high school sweetheart, George L. Adkins Jr. on July 12, 1945 in Seth, West Virginia. She is survived by her husband, George of the family home; sister, Georgia Kelly of Hurricane, WV; and brother, Cecil Eugene Whitney of North Augusta, SC; one son, Lawrence Adkins and wife, Pam; two daughters, Barbara Stetz and husband, Bob and Deborah Kollander; five grandchildren, James D. Baca, Michael Kollander and wife, April, Nathan Kollander, Amber M. Adkins, Danielle L. Adkins; and one great-granddaughter, Meryssa Lynn Kollander. Betty was a full-time homemaker who devoted her life to her home, family and friends. She was"Gramma" to all, and never failed to quietly listen and unconditionally love. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, July 15, 1:00 p.m., at University Village mobile home park clubhouse to celebrate Betty's life.

Barela -- Gilbert Barela, 38, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away suddenly on July 13, 2000. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Cassandra Barela; and three children, Isabel, Felicia, and Jeaneva. Also surviving are his parents, Isabel and Amador Barela; four brothers, Johnny Barela, Fidel Barela, Amador Barela and wife, Melinda, and Filomeno Barela; and five sisters, Gloria Montano and husband, Paul, Katy Garcia, Yolanda Montano and husband, Raymond, Sandra Barela, and Theresa Fay and husband, Robert. Friends may visit Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited Sunday evening, 7:00 p.m., at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday Morning at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Cremation to follow. Bush -- Allene Frances Bush, 45, a resident of Albuquerque died, Thursday, July 13, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Christopher Bush; children, Rachel Christine and Samantha Nicole Bush; mother, Margaret McGee; brother, James T. McGee Jr.; and sisters, Kathy Rimsha, Marilyn Hofheins and R. Marie McGee. She was preceded in death by her dad, James T. McGee. She graduated from Sandia High School with Honors. She received her certificate in Dental Hygiene in June of 1976. She graduated from UNM in 1991, where she received her Bachelor degree in Dental Hygiene with Summa Cum Laude. Allene was a member of Dental Hygiene Honor Society Sigma Phi Alpha and completed the Western Regional examining board for her Anesthesiology certificate in 1993, Honor Society Phi Kappa Phi and a member of Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Her most important passion in life was her personal relationship with the Lord, which made her the most wonderful wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, and loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She was an avid golfer, gardener and enjoyed cooking. Memorial service will be held Monday, 6:00 p.m., at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1816 Academy Rd. Chavez -- Gilberto Leonardo Chavez, age 43, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday. He is survived by two brothers, Jose Chavez and wife, Annie, Richard Chavez and wife, Margie; two sisters, Criselda and husband, Edwin Zamora, Val and husband, Paul Garcia; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Antonio J. Chavez; and parents, Melisendro Chavez and Deluvina Chavez Demilio. The Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m., Sunday, in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Monday, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper NW. Ferguson -- G. Donald Ferguson, 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, died Thursday, July 13, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Ferguson; daughter, Cathy Allen and husband, Tom; grandson, Shawn Allen, all of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Melissa Hodge of West Des Moines, IA; and sister, Ida Klahre of Clearville, PA. Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; and two brothers. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Army Air Corps. Mr. Ferguson was a member of Netherwood Park Church of Christ. Geist -- Laura M. Geist, a resident of Sunbridge Health Care Center, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000. She is survived by her son, Daniel Geist and wife, Jane; granddaughter, Margot Geist, all of Albuquerque; grandson, Benjamin Geist; and great-grandson, Aaron Geist, both of Frisco, TX. Mrs. Geist was preceded in death by her brother, Evan Boswell; and sister, Miriam Paulson. She was a graduate of Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. Mrs. Geist was a kindergarten teacher at Lincoln and Washington schools for over 30 years in Marion, IN. She was a member of Temple Congregational Church in Marion, IN. Greeson -- Ronald D. Greeson, 68, a longtime Albuquerque real estate broker, died in Las Vegas, Nevada at Nathan Adelson Hospice after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Mildred, who was a music educator both in Albuquerque and Las Vegas; his daughter, Rhonda Greeson, was a longtime member of the NMSO Chorus and is now a music educator in Las Vegas; his son, Steve Greeson lives in Las Vegas with his wife, Tammy, and grandson, Eric; his daughter, Michelle Slack, and granddaughters, Samantha and Melissa also reside in Las Vegas. He is also survived by his sister, Thelma; and brother, Keith, both of Colorado Springs, CO. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Palm Mortuary - Eastern at 7600 S. Hernandez -- Mrs. Ralpha Hernandez, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday at the age of 65. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Hernandez. Mrs. Hernandez is survived by her sons, Louis Hernandez and wife, Deana, and Thomas Hernandez; daughter, Joanne Li and husband, Jeff; brother, Gilbert Romero and wife, Eloise; sisters, Rosemary Romero, Irene Romero, Cecilia Yannoni and husband, Louis, and Dolores Vivian and husband, Sam; and grandchildren, Alysia Hernandez, Jennifer Hernandez and Alan Li. Funeral services for Mrs. Hernandez will be held on Monday at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Horton -- David Perry Horton, 80, a resident of Los Lunas for five years, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Olive Altizer Horton of Los Lunas; and daughters, Pamela Sue Horton of Chesapeake, VA and Patricia Rose Horton of Los Lunas. Mr. Horton was a graduate of Holtsville High School in Millbrook, AL. He served in the U.S. Air Army Air Corps during WWII and was honorably discharged. Mr. Horton was a former Justice of the Peace. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Vulcan Fraternal Masonic Lodge #823 in Birmingham, AL and was also a Shriner. Mr. Horton was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grantsville, WV. He was active in the Republican Party. Services will be held Monday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Johnson -- Craig Johnson, 59, a resident of Albuquerque since 1977, died Wednesday, July 12, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandra Johnson of the family home; sons, Geoffrey C. Johnson of Key Largo, FL, Tige C. Johnson and wife, Yvonne C. of Chicago, IL, and Reuel C. Johnson of Albuquerque; sisters, Sherrill Creer and husband, Ronald and Jill Rodriguez, all of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Kent Johnson and wife, Carol of Snohomish, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 49. Mr. Johnson was involved in numerous organizations and community activities during his years here in Albuquerque. His love of travel was just one of his many interests. Keppler -- Jeremy Charles Keppler passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 13, 2000, after a three month battle with a brain tumor. He was born October 2, 1970 in Portland, OR and had lived in Albuquerque since 1984. Jeremy graduated from El Dorado High School in 1989, and from UNM in 1998 with a B.A. in History. He was a training specialist at Camp Fire Boys and Girls. Jeremy was a member of Harvest Community Church where he was a Sunday School teacher. He is survived by his wife, Brenda; parents, Daryl and Myrna Keppler, all of Albuquerque; sister, Jennifer Milligan of Rosemond, CA; grandparents, Tom and June Kelley of Portland, OR; motherťin-law and father-in-law, Kay and Don Jantz of Albuquerque; sisters-in-law, Kelly LaBonte of Kenosha, WI, Emily Jantz and Sandee Reeve and husband, John, all of Albuquerque, and Linda Keeney and husband, Wayland of Tribune, KS; brother-in-law, Nicholas Jantz of Denver, CO; nieces and nephews, Shalee Rose, Jonathan Daniel, Jason and Jeremy; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and a great many grieving friends. Lyle -- Thelma Frances Rabb Lyle, of Albuquerque, passed away July 8, 2000, of natural causes. She was born March 14, 1921 in Mena, Arkansas to Harry F. Rabb and Mina Sexton Rabb. Frances was married to James W. Lyle of Mena, AR in 1942. He preceded her in death in 1992. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Lyle in 1998; her son, Patrick Lyle in 1980; and by her brothers, Harry (Buck) Rabb and John Robert Rabb. Survivors include her son, James W. Lyle, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Gerri of Albuquerque, son, Paul A. Lyle and daughter-in-law, Kim of San Diego; granddaughters, Katerina Calderone of Salt Lake City, and Jeannette Lyle of Albuquerque; brothers, William (T) Robb of Russellville, AR, Charles Rabb of Rogers, AR and Richard Rabb of Arlington, TX; and also her sister, Mary Ann Plunkett of Vallejo, CA. During her marriage, Frances lived in such exotic locations as occupied Japan, and the then territories of Hawaii and Alaska. She and her husband moved to Albuquerque in 1961. Frances was an accomplished gardener with a great knowledge of horticulture. Her many activities in gardening, including chairing many state flower shows, classifications for state flower shows, Past Presidency of La Manana Garden Club, as well as other offices. She loved her vegetable garden, peonies, iris, and roses. Services will be held at the Gate of Heaven Chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2000. The family welcomes flowers or donations to Hospice, the Albuquerque Garden Center, or the Albuquerque Public Library. Sunrise Society is serving the family of Mrs. Lyle, (891-8200).

Ortiz -- George L. Ortiz died peacefully July 11, 2000. Born on September 18, 1927 in El Pueblo, NM, he moved to Albuquerque in 1953, and became an active member of San Jose Parish. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clemente and Louisa; and brother, Gene. Survived by his wife of 48 years, Gloria Ortiz; and three sons, Charlie and wife, Jeanette, Junior and wife, Chela, Glen and wife, Vicky; and six grandchildren, Neil, Jennifer, Christopher, George, Nicholas and Jonathan; two great-grandchildren, Dominique and Noah; four brothers, Eluterio, Frank, Chano and Ray Ortiz; three sisters, Emma Ortiz, Ramona Lopez and Mary Chavez. Services will be held at San Jose Parish with a Rosary to be recited on Friday, July 14, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 15, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. Private interment will be held. Ruiz -- Andrew"Chumos" Ray Remijio Ruiz, a four year old, precious, little angel from the Lord, was suddenly called home on Wednesday, July 12, 2000. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Peralta, NM. Chumos was preceded in death by his grandfather, Esquipula Ruiz in 1989; and his cousin, Martina Artiaga in 1997; his maternal great-grandfather, Gregorio Montano in 1999; and his uncle, Melquiader Aragon in 2000. He is survived by his loving mother, Veronica Ruiz; his brother, Mark; two sisters, Geraldine and Vanessa Mendez; his grandmother, Dolores Ruiz of El Cerro; his great-great-grandmother, Louisa Montano of Los Lunas; and his padrino, Larry Lucero of Belen. Chumos is also survived by his uncle, Angel Espinoza; two aunts, Donna Espinoza and Cindy Ruiz; and many loving cousins. A viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 2:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass for the Angels will be celebrated on Monday, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with Father Albert officiating. Interment will follow in the Valencia Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Julian Espinoza, Elias Chavez, Carlos Pena, Chris Contreras, Rudy Romero, and Robert Lucero. Sandoval -- John Sandoval Sr., age 73, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2000, in a local hospital surrounded by his loving family. John was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha Sandoval. Schwebach -- Eugene James Schwebach, age 92, passed on to the promises of our Lord, Wednesday, July 12, 2000. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Clara in 1992. Eugene was born February 12, 1908 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, eldest of six children of Susan Wagoner and James Schwebach. After the death of his father when Eugene was 11, the family moved to western Kansas to farm. In Kansas, Eugene began the learning and practice of his life work in agriculture. He married Clara Weigel, December 28, 1936. The family moved to Moriarty, New Mexico in 1960, where he lived for the remainder of his life. He continued to farm in New Mexico with his sons. Eugene's farming experience began with horse drawn implements and continued across the century to today's powerful, efficient mechanized equipment. He was fascinated by machines and gifted with an instinctive understanding of mechanical things. This heritage he passed on to his sons who continue to farm in the Estancia Valley. He was owner and operator of Schwebach Apartments in Moriarty, a business he managed until just a few months before his death. After retirement from farming, Eugene and Clara enjoyed several years of extensive travel in their motorhome. Eugene was an active and committed member of the Catholic Church and was proud to have attained the status of Fourth Degree Knight of the Order of the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are three sons, Don and wife, Martha of Moriarty, Jim and wife, Peggy of McIntosh, NM, Michael and wife, Diane of McIntosh, NM; three daughters, Rita Lamb and husband, Charles of Las Cruces, Catherine Gilmore and husband, Jerry of South Jordan, UT, JoAnn Gabel and husband, Greg of Fairfax, CA; ten grandsons; five granddaughters; and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Roman Schwebach and sister, Amelia Ostmeyer of Oakley, KS and sister, Loretta Holthaus of Denver, CO. Rosary will be said Friday, 7:00 p.m., with the Mass of the Resurrection to be offered Saturday, July 15, at 10:00 a.m., Father Tony Martinez presiding. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Doug Schwebach, Daryl Schwebach, Dean Schwebach, Wayne Lamb, Jerry Richard Gilmore, Reid Schwebach, Ryan Schwebach, Jesse Schwebach, Ian Schwebach, and Matthew Gabel. All services will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Moriarty, New Mexico. A viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Friday, at the mortuary. Stubbs -- Ervin W. Stubbs, 54, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Las Vegas, Nevada, was called home on Wednesday, July 12, 2000. He is survived by his sons, Lewis Stubbs, Robert Stubbs and his wife, Eva; grandsons, Jacob, Aaron, and Robert Jr. and former wife, Sandra Stubbs of Las Vegas, NV; his wife, Karen St. John-Stubbs; step-sons, Robert Edmondson Jr., Chris Edmondson, and Mark St. John of Albuquerque.
