Martin -- Mary S. Martin, 59, a resident of New Mexico most of her life, died Sunday, August 29, 1999. Mary was born in Topeka, Kansas, January 24, 1940, to S. Elwood and Florence Wells Stewart. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mildred Crocker; and her daughter, Cynthia A. Martin. She is survived by her sister, Myrtle Beem and husband, Bill; her brother, Clyde Stewart and wife, Ida Jo; her former husband, beloved friend, Chuck Martin, and by special friend, Marilyn Wackerbarth. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Mary was the manager of Johnstone Supply of Albuquerque for the past 18 years. She was an active member of the Albuquerque Del Sol Rotary Club. Mary was a kind and generous person, and had a great sense of humor. She enjoyed an active life. Her many activities included traveling, cross-country skiing, reading, and playing bridge. She also dearly loved her many pets through the years, one of whom survives her. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 3, 1999, at Vista Verde Memorial Park and Mortuary, 4310 Sara Rd. SE, Rio Rancho, NM. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sunrise Society, 891-8200. Disposition of the remains will take place in the Rose Garden at Vista Verde Memorial Park and Mortuary, immediately following the service. Menkis -- Arline Beverly Menkis, 70, passed away on August 27, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman B. Menkis. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, and in 1987, she and her husband came to live in Albuquerque. Arline was actively involved in volunteer work with the Presbyterian Pickard Nursing Home, Presbyterian Hospital, and her local neighborhood watch. She is survived by two sons, Ben Menkis and wife, Barbara, and Dan Menkis and wife, Angie; and grandchildren, Jimmy Sweeney, Erin Sweeney, and Heather Menkis. She is also survived by her older sister, Marcia Tanzman and husband, Jack; brothers, Erwin Siegel and wife, Barbara, and Michael Siegel and wife, and her very best friend, Gilda; and beloved friends, Christine and David Lohkamp and their children, Courtney, Jordan and Tina and Steve Bersen and their family. Graveside Services were held on Tuesday at Santa Fe National Cemetery, with Cantor Jacqueline Shuchat-Marx of Congregation Albert officiating. Montoya -- Mr. Steve A. Montoya, 37, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on August 31, 1999. Mr. Montoya is survived by his beloved wife of seven years, Michelle; two daughters, Melanie and Stephanie; one son, Steven Jr.; his parents, Arsenio and Betty Montoya; one sister, Elizabeth Valdez; his half sister, Tanya Aragon and husband, Daniel; one brother, Lorenzo Montoya; four half brothers, Archie Jr., Michael, Andrew and Arsenio. His special nieces, Samantha Lynn and Ashley Nicole; his special nephew, Matthew Arron; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Steve was a member of the Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday evening in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1860 Griegos NW, from 7:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 8:00 p.m. by Mrs. Gabriella Nieto. Final visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Father Ramon Aragon, celebrant of the mass. Pallbearers will be Ronald Paiz, Lorenzo Montoya, Eugene J. Garcia Sr., Arsenio Montoya, Eugene R. Garcia Jr and Frank Moreno. Honorary Pallbearers will be Diego Lopez, Matt Sanchez and Mark Sisneros. Private disposition will take place. Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Dr., SW in charge of arrangements.

Montoya -- Veronika M. Montoya, 76, a resident of Albuquerque for 48 years, died Monday, August 30, 1999. She is survived by her husband, Philip Montoya; son, Anthony Kump and wife, Udella, all of Albuquerque; sister, Nettie Hriber of Pennsylvania; brother, Tony Hriber; sister-in-law, Mary Metelko, all of Helper, UT; and grandson, Darrell Kump of Fennville, MI. Mrs. Montoya was a seamstress for most of her life, she owned her own beauty shop in the 1970s and worked at Oden Chevrolet in the 1950s and 1960s. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Memorial services will be held Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE with Pastor Lemuel M. Boyles officiating.

Petr -- Carole G. Petr, 59, a resident of Albuquerque since 1976, died Tuesday, August 31, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. Petr; mother, Sophie Wutock-O'Brien; father, Frank Wutock; and step-father, John O'Brien. She will be missed by many family members and friends. Schuster -- Elizabeth Schuster, rancher, farmer, homemaker, 92. Elizabeth Rose"Betty" Schuster died August 23rd. She was born May 6, 1907 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Her interests included quilting, playing bridge, and caring for her pets. She also enjoyed socializing with her circle of close friends. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Carter, Tucson, AZ; a grandson, Tenney Carter; and her great-grandson, Mark Carter, both from Boulder, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Heart Association.

Smith -- Mr. Zane E. Smith, Jr., MSgt. Ret., Age 78, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 1999, at his residence. Mr. Smith, a resident of Kerrville since 1977, was born on December 22, 1920, in Amarillo, Texas, to the parents of Zane Errett Smith Sr. and Jewell Serena Sullenger Smith. He served his country faithfully, including World War II, from 1940 to 1963, in the United States Air Force, retiring as Master Sergeant. He also retired from the Internal Revenue Service. He married Philippa B. Howland on February 12, 1944, in Clovis, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on April 13, 1998. Mr. Smith was a member of the Unitarian Church. He was a member of Zia Daylight Masonic Lodge #77, Past Master December 1991, the Ballot Aybod Temple-York Rite in Albuquerque, and the Scottish Rite Consistory in Santa Fe. Mr. Smith was a life member of the DAV Chapter 32 in Albuquerque, life member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, and life member of the National Association of Uniformed Services. He volunteered at the Lovelace Medical Center and the Veterans Administration Regional Hospital. Survivors, two daughters, Serena Burrough and husband, Bill O. Burrough of Kerrville, and Dr. Penny Ramsdell and husband, Earle R. Ramsdell of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two grandchildren, Nova Nichols of Boulder. Colorado and Shana Corbiere of Round Rock. Funeral Services, 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 1999, Grimes Funeral Chapels, Kerrville, Texas, with Rev. Earle R. Ramsdell and Kerrville Masonic Lodge No. 697, AF & AM, Officiating. Private interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Kerrville.
