Serrano -- Alberto Santos "Serri" Serrano, age 48, passed away unexpectedly June 18 at the Guadalupe County Hospital. Albert was born November 1, 1952 in Santa Rosa, NM to the home of Charles H. and Angela Gerhardt Serrano. Albert attended St. Rose Catholic Church and graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1970. Immediately after graduation Albert went to work with the New Mexico State Highway Department until 1988 and then went to work for the Truck Stops of America for four years. He was currently employed with the City of Santa Rosa. Albert was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church. He enjoyed playing pool, reading, working on cars and fishing. Albert is preceded in death by his nephew, Francisco Delgado and his grandparents. Survivors include his parents, Charles and Angela Serrano of Santa Rosa; his son, Jason Serrano and wife, Jeatonne of Edgewood; his daughter, Adina Chavez of Clovis; grandchildren, Erin and Shaelynn Serrano of Edgewood. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, Bertille Serrano Delgado of Santa Fe, Charlene Serrano Urban of Las Vegas, NM, Darlene Bonney and husband, Leroy of Santa Rosa, Enrico Serrano and wife, Lucille of Milagro, NM, Joe Socorro and wife, Barbara of Santa Rosa, Gwendolyn Serrano of Santa Rosa, Jorge Serrano and wife, Michelle of Santa Rosa, numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and a host of relatives and friends. Rosary Services will be held on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church in Santa Rosa. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. also from St. Rose Church with Father Stephen Schultz officiating. Smart -- JoVita Joy Smart, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1978, died on Monday, June 18, 2001. She is survived by her step-son, William H. Smart, Jr. and wife, Beverly of Garland, TX; sisters, Alva Jo Grant of Peoria, AZ and Verna Lee Glover and husband, Howard of San Antonio, TX; grandsons, Scott Smart and Craig Smart; nieces, Katherine Francis, Janelle Hunt, Margaret Vickers and Barbara Kay Jackson and nephews, David Blundell and Larren Glover. JoVita was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Smart and grandson, Keith Smart. She was a resident at the Meadows where she had served on the board of directors. JoVita was a member of the Montgomery Church of Christ. Jo Vita will be remembered as a unique person who knew how to put kindness into words and caring into action. She was not a copy of anyone else on earth. She was an original who shared with us her many special gifts. She created beauty with the stroke of a paintbrush and her many other artistic talents. She was an inspiration to all. She loved life, and lived it to the fullest even though she was physically challenged. She leaves us with a treasure of happy memories. Services will be held on Friday, June 22, 2001, 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd N.E. with Charles Lindsey, officiating. Interment will be in Barstow, California. Friends may visit on Thursday, June 21, 2001 from 3:00p.m. -8:00p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Chapel. Meeker -- Sybil F. Meeker, 95, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, died on Sunday, June 17, 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Meg Porch and husband, Bruce of Albuquerque, Marcy Lackey and husband, Fred of Grants, NM and Marcella Powell and husband, Wayne of Albuquerque; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Grace Fox of Tallahasse, FL and daughter-in-law, Anne Meeker of Kennewick, WA. Sybil was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Meeker; son, Richard H. Meeker and daughter, Miriam McCluney. She was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church and a former Latin teacher. A very special thank you to the staff at The Cottages for all their care for Sybil. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2001, 3:00 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9315 Candelaria N.E. with, the Rev. Jan Butin, officiating.

Montgomery -- Charles Alfred Montgomery, age 29, passed away June 14, 2001. He was born May 20, 1972 in Saigon, Viet Nam. He was preceded in death by one brother, Thai Tan Montgomery, on November 9, 1979. He is survived by his parents, George Montgomery and wife, Bette, Tucson, AZ, and Rosemarie Anderson and husband, Jeffrey Lee Anderson, San Antonio, Texas; four brothers, Steve Montgomery and wife, Gaylene, Belle Plain, Kansas, Roger Lynn Anderson, Richard Noel Anderson, and Redmond Craig Anderson, all of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Susan Reeves of Albuquerque, NM, Teresa Drummond and husband, Robert, Bradford, PA, and Sharon Long and husband, Dennis, Lovington, NM; and seven step-brothers and sisters, living in the Portland area of Oregon; one aunt, Susie N. Le, Phoenix, AZ; and one cousin; three nieces and four nephews. Mr. Montgomery had lived in Albuquerque, NM for the last ten years. He enjoyed spin rod fishing and going to Elephant Butte lake. He also enjoyed cooking, especially barbecue, but was adept at doing anything in the kitchen. He enjoyed watching football, just not Dallas. He hated shopping, but enjoyed Asian cuisine. A stranger is just a friend he hadn't met yet. He was a real people person who shared everything he had, down to his last dollar. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at The Chapel of Sandia at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Donahoe officiating. Montano -- Luis Montano, born August 8, 1916 passed away June 13, 2001. A beloved daddy, grandpa, brother, and uncle, he is survived by his two daughters; five sisters; three brothers; ten grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at St. Anne's Catholic Church, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2001. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2001, with burial following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Phillip, Henry, Deio, Marvin, Charles, and Tony. Sprague -- Elnora Kinser Sprague, born December 15, 1913 in Nixa, MO and died June 13, 2001 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 87. She attended Nixa Schools graduating as valedictorian in 1931. She received her Bachelors Degree from SMSU."Miss Elnora" as she was known to her many students, taught school for 40 years, 37 in the Nixa School System. She was the daughter of Roy and Bird Rice and was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Max Kinser and Guy Sprague; her brother, Eugene Rice and his wife, Lucille; one nephew, Richard Holmes. She is survived by her daughter and husband, Kathie Kay and Gary Williams; and her beloved grandson, Jason Williams, of Albuquerque. She is also survived by two sisters and their husbands, Lavenia and Dr. Victor Wood of Nixa and Mary and A.K. Holmes of Branson; surviving nieces and nephews, Donna, Kimber and Kelly Scott, Steve, Linda and Jeff Wood, Philip, Mary, Michael and Kristy Wood, Dwight and Linda Sprague, Charles Kinser; in-laws, Alvanee Sprague and Rex and Virginia Kinser. She will be fondly remembered in Nixa by her teaching associates and students for her years of leadership and devotion to her profession. She will be remembered in Branson as a faithful worker for the American Cancer Society, Motel Owner, Tri-Lakes Community Theater and AAUW. Cremation and interment will be in Albuquerque at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 16, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. at Gate of Heaven Chapel, Paseo del Norte and Wyoming where she will be lovingly remembered as"Grandma" by one and all. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a Nixa High School Scholarship fund in her name at the Nixa Community Foundation, P.O Box 1821 Nixa, MO 65714. Phillis -- Charles W. Phillis, 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, died Monday, June 11, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Phillis of Albuquerque; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Rector of Denver, CO; son, John Charles Phillis of Taylorsville, NC; daughter, Marian Thompson and husband, Ken of Roswell, NM; sons, Porter Kimmel and wife, Kay of Tempe, AZ and Edgar Kimmel and wife, Linda of Dayton, OH; and daughter, Alice Risse and husband, John of Peralta, NM; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Shupp -- Helen M. Shupp, age 91, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at the Maria-Joseph Living Care Center, Dayton, Ohio. Mrs. Shupp was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A."Pete" Shupp, on December 9, 2000; and by her sister, Faye Rattenbury; and her brother, Benjamin Carter. In 1989, Helen and Charles moved to Dayton, Ohio after having lived the previous 50 years in Albuquerque, NM. She is survived by her beloved sister, Sue and husband, Gerald McDaniel of Mission Viejo, CA; her devoted sister-in-law, Frances and husband, James Turner of Huber Heights, Ohio; and by her loving four nieces and two nephews. Private Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
