MONTANO -- Annie. Mrs. Annie Montano, 72, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on February 23, 2005 with her loving family by her side. Mrs. Montano is survived by her three sisters, Bertha Trujillo, Dorothy Serna and husband, Pete, Angie Sanchagrin and husband, Tom of California; two brothers, Ruben Nieto and wife, Bessie, Albert Nieto and wife, Criselda; one sister in law, Theresa Nieto of California; two uncles and her Godfather, Fermin Nieto and Joe Gurule; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, great-great-nieces and -nephews, and many cousins and friends. Mrs. Montano was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation for Mrs. Montano will be Friday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Ignacio and Terry Gallegos. A final visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. by Father Christopher Hanson. Interment will follow at the San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Martin Nieto, Leon Lovato, Julian Crespin, Joseph Crespin, Chris Trujillo, and Sammy Serena. GURULE -- J. Vincent Gurule, age 77, went home to the Lord on February 21, 2005. He is survived by his loving wife, Jennie; daughters, Liz Evertsen spouse Rick, Kathy Sena spouse Don, Marie Myers spouse Charlie, Bea Lopez, Nancy Zamora spouse Julian. Sons, Vince, Larry, and Ray. Stepchildren, Sheila Bentivegna spouse Michael, Crusita Candelaria, Del Candelaria spouse Margaret, Ray Candelaria spouse Carrie. Sisters Frances Martinez spouse Matt, Priscilla Sprunk spouse Rudy; brother, Gilbert spouse Corrine; in-laws, Grace Gurule, Julia Gurule, Babe and Theresa Lopez, Ernie and Clemmie Lopez. Grandchildren, Rick, Barbie, Lesa, Anthony, Connie, DeAnna, Kristina, Ramon, David, Julianna, Larry Vincent, Celeste, Joseph Vicente, Raymond Martin, Edward, Annette, Ruben, Michelle, Janet, David C., Cantrell, Caray, Ray; and ten great-grandchildren. Vincent was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, raised in Martineztown. He is a retired Sandia Base firefighter of 32 years. Vincent's love for music was expressed through his piano playing with his wife Jennie singing by his side. Through his music and his smile --to the end-- he brought so much joy to all his family and those who knew him. "Vincent's Barber Shop" was always open to all family and friends. Vincent was a member of the American Legion Post 13 for many years. Vincent's Celebration of Life/Mass will be held on Friday, February 25, 2005, 10 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Church, 5311 Phoenix Ave., NE. MANLEY -- Leonella (Nella) A. Manley January 17, 1939 - February 10, 2005 While at home with her mother and family, Nella went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday evening. Her beloved son, Henry Manley, precedes her in death. She leaves behind her mother, Mary Gurule of Albuquerque, NM; children, Christopher (Yvette) Manley and Charlotte (Dick) Walton of Greensboro, NC, Mittie Manley, Carmelita (Ron) Wyche and Annette (Jerry) Jefferson of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Saundra (K.C.) Coveal and David (Christina) Manley of Albuquerque, NM, Geroge (Rose) Manley of Emporia, VA, Nella Johnson and Bella Smith of Charlotte, NC; 31 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ramona Copeland, Frances McCloud and Nancy (James) Marshall of Albuquerque, NM, Jeanette (Frank) Shreve, Odessa, TX; brother, Billo (Lucy) Moreno, San Diego, CA and many deeply loved relatives and friends. FUENTES -- Adolph "Ed" Fuentes, born July 1954 and went to the Lord, January 31, 2005. He left behind many friends at Solar VillasApts. His special friends, Joe, Debbie Mascarenas, Glen Waite, Edward Gurule, and James Wheeler. His loving companion, Joan Traylor. Ed was a member of Oasis of Love with Pastor Tom. There will be a memorial service Friday, February 11, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. This will be at Solar Villas Apts., 1135 Texas NE. He will be missed by all.

ENGEL -- Velma (Vel) Sanchez Engel passed away peacefully at the home of her oldest son in Tucson, AZ on January 13, 2005. Multiple Myeloma Cancer took her precious life at 65 years young. She was preceded in death by her father, Juan Jose Sanchez and brother, Ralph Sanchez. She is survived by her mother, Telesfora Sanchez; husband, TSgt (ret) Lyman Engel; oldest son, MSgt (ret) Bruce Nogar; daughter, Brenda Wildes; and youngest son, Brian Nogar. Also surviving are her brothers and their families, Henry, Paul, and Roger Sanchez; and her sisters and their families, Lydia Gurule and Joyce Caruthers; former spouse and father of her children, CMSGT (ret) William Nogar; and many more loved ones she has touched throughout her short life. Vel was a kind, loving, and devoted wife, daughter, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, godmother, neighbor, and friend. She gave herself freely and lovingly to all who knew her. She enjoyed life by helping others, being with her family and friends, going to the casino, and eating good food. Vel will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. While Vel was a military spouse, she has lived all around the world from Okinawa, Japan to New York to Washington State. Vel returned to her native New Mexico in 1971 and worked as an Administrative Assistant for an insurance company, a Beautician, a Dental Hygienist/Assistant, and an Office Administrator in the dental office. Vel is a 1958 graduate of Valley High School and Hollywood Beauty College and a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Cremation has taken place. A Rosary will be recited at Nativity Church on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday Morning at 9:00 a.m. also at Nativity Church. Internment will follow at National Cemetery in Santa Fe. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society or the favorite charity of your choice.

CHAVEZ -- Ernest R. Chavez, Jr. (aka Gooney) went to be with our Lord on January 14, 2005. He was 18 years old. He is survived by his mother, Cynthia Gutierrez; and father, Ernest R. Chavez Powerman. Mr. Chavez is also survived by his grandmothers, Mrs. Nora Gutierrez and Mrs. Maria R.O. Chavez; numerous aunts; uncles; cousins; and friends. He loved his girlfriend, "Bianca." Ernest is also survived by his pet dog, Harley. His interests were Cadillacs, theme parks, board/video games and spending time with his cousins who were like his brothers and sisters. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. at Reflections Chapel, 2400 Washington St. NE. Rosary will be on Monday at 7:00 p.m., Mass at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday. Both at San Jose Catholic Church. BACA -- Bennie Baca, 76, a resident of Corona, CA, formerly of Albuquerque, passed away on December 9, 2004. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Estella Baca; and a brother, Fermin Baca. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sylvia Baca; a daughter, Louise Kukovich and husband Mike; a grandson, Joe Larry Garcia; a great-grandson, Joey Garcia; six sisters: Josephine Gurule from Perris, CA, Theresa Trujillo from Cedar Crest, NM, Rose Lovato and husband Eddie, Corina Martinez, Vicky Moya, Priscilla Anaya and husband Laco; two brothers, Bobby Baca and wife Lugie, and Leroy Baca, all from Albuquerque. Bennie was also survived by many brothers- and sisters-in-law; nephews; nieces; cousins; and friends. A Funeral Service will be held on January 8, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, located at Claremont just east of San Mateo, with Deacon Pilar Garcia. GARCIA -- Jose Agapito (J.A.) Garcia, 90, a resident of Albuquerque since 1975, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Monday, January 3, 2005. He was surrounded by love and prayers with his daughters, son, and grandchildren. He lived a full life and will be remembered by everyone whose lives he touched with his music. J.A. was a talented musician whose music was well known and enjoyed throughout the state. In 1933 he married his beloved Antonia Otero who preceded him in death. From their marriage were born 14 children: ten daughters, and four sons. Two daughters and two sons have preceded him in death: Louisa Luna, Esquipula, Lincoln, and Ray Garcia. He is survived by daughters: Juanita Ortiz, Pauline Gurule, Berlinda Garcia, Lucy Bibiano and her husband Leroy, all of Albuquerque, Bea Brooks of Westminster, California, Lila Gonzales and her husband Juan of Willard, Christine Storey and her husband Frank of Rio Rancho, Rita Chavez and Joe L. Chavez, and Louella Gauna and husband Joe, all of Vaughn, NM. He is also survived by sons: Sal Garcia and his wife Vera from Albuquerque, NM, and Sidro Garcia and his wife Susan from Las Vegas, NM. He and his wife also assisted in raising several grandchildren, including Richard Ortiz and Viola Madrid. He was especially proud of his 40 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren. J.A. was retired from the AT & SF Railroad for over 30 years. He spent over 40 years with the company working in various positions. He also served as Mayor of Willard NM for several years, between 1950 - 1964. He served as the Vice-President of the Estancia Board of Education, between 1960 - 1964. He was well known for his music as Joe Garcia and his Orchestra during the 1940s and 1950s. Services will be held in Willard, NM, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, January 4 at 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, January 5 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on January 6 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at the Willard Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Fernanda Harmon, Antoinette Gonzales, Ruth Butler, Viola Madrid, Rachael Bibiano, and Debra Thompson. Honorary Pallbearers are: Juan Gonzales, Frank Storey, Leroy Bibiano, Joe Gauna, Sal Garcia and Sidro Garcia, and Joe L.
