ARMIJO, ESEQUIEL "ZEKE" B. Age 88, passed away Friday, December 26, 2014 in Socorro, NM. He was born on the family farm in Las Palomas, NM on August 19, 1926, to Manfor and Carlota Baca Armijo. When Zeke was young, he and his family moved to Truth or Consequences, NM. He graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1944 and went on to attend New Mexico State University where he graduated in 1948. Zeke married Soila Apodaca in 1952 and they moved to Socorro in 1957. He was the Socorro County Extension Agent for the State of New Mexico until he retired in 1982. He taught countless Socorro County youth through the 4-H program and was inducted into the New Mexico 4-H Hall of Fame. Zeke began ranching soon after he moved to Socorro and this was truly his passion. He managed the family ranch for nearly 50 years until his passing. A devoted father and grandfather, Zeke will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his children, Marcy and Dan Armijo; and his brother, Belsan Armijo. Zeke is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Soila Apodaca Armijo; his son, Jerry Armijo and wife, Lillian; his grandchildren, Madalyn, John and Joseph Armijo. The Holy Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 8:30 am at the San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro with the Mass of Resurrection to follow at 9:00 am. ESTRADA, BERTHA DURAN August 17, 1930 - December 26, 2014 A longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, December 26, 2014. She is survived by son, Samuel Estrada and wife, Sharon; her daughter, Dr. Naomi Campos, MD and husband, Joe; daughter, Valda Keliikuli and husband, William; her son, Kevin Estrada, and partner, Cuman Cropper; grandchildren, Donna Campos and partner, Jake Hernandez, Kamuela Keliikuli and wife, Claudia, Kawika Keliikuli, Daniel Keliikuli and wife, Rebecca, Zechariah Keliikuli, Amanda Estrada, Nicolette Estrada and Isabella Estrada. Mrs. Estrada was preceded in death by her father, Margarito Duran in 1970, mother, Flora Duran in 1998, brother, Carlos Duran in 2000 and sister-in-law, Sostena Duran in 2005. Bertha was an educator who touched many lives in her long and illustrious career. After retiring from teaching she enjoyed traveling, gardening, and quilting. MUNOZ, LORELLA M. age 75, born in Albuquerque, and a resident of Los Lunas, NM, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Mrs. Munoz is survived by her husband of forty-seven years, Albert; children, Paula Sandoval and husband, Joseph, and Perry Munoz and wife, Tammy; sister, Priscilla McGibbon; six grandchildren, Joey, Jaeden, Estrella, Perry, Mia, and David; brothers in law and sisters in law, Cruz Munoz and wife, Cathy, Tony Munoz and wife, Virgie, Gloria Aragon, and Gilbert Munoz; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. CANDELARIA, SAMUEL A. "TONY" Samuel A. "Tony" Candelaria lovingly known as "Pops", 81, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 19, 2014. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 60 years, Brenda Candelaria; children, Neil Candelaria and his wife, Alice, Karen Candelaria, Kevin Candelaria, and Kelle Stults and her husband, Rick; grandchildren, Alicia Candelaria and husband, Zach Peterson, Leesha Candelaria, Kyle Dietz, Randon Dietz, Jared Stults, and Zane Stults; great-granddaughter, Chanel Fulton; six sisters and one brother. Pops was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Sarah Rogers and his grandson, Casey Candelaria. Mr. Candelaria served in the USAF during the Korean War. He was a mechanic and supervisor for Price's Valley Gold Diaries for many years. Tony was a vehicle maintenance mechanic for 7 Up for 3 years. Upon retirement, he took on the responsibility of school crossing guard, which was his favorite occupation of all. Pops loved the laughter of children. Cremation has taken place and Pop's life will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 23 at 10:00 am at FRENCH - Lomas. Reception will follow. CHAVEZ, KRISTIN ANNE My Bright Eyes, Kristin Chavez, age 45, has passed on to eternal peace. She is survived by husband of 14 years, Elevinio A. Chavez Jr; her son Andrew Chavez; daughter Alexandra Davis; son-in-law Levi Vasquez; grandson Liam Vasquez; parents Richard and Francine Westfall; sisters Michele Westfall, Holly Muniz; brother-in-law Paul Mariscal; aunt and uncles Cyndy and Kerry Frame, Richard Gabello, Tony Westfall; nephew Jake Muniz; niece Mia Muniz; numerous cousins and friends. CONWAY, ISABEL Isabel E. Conway, 81 a longtime Santa Rosa resident passed away at her home on Thursday, December 18, 2014. She was born June 4, 1933 in Anton Chico, NM to the home of Fidel and Celina (Vigil) Esquibel. She attend schools in Santa Rosa and graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1952. She married Thomas Conway in 1966 in Santa Rosa. Isabel loved people and serving the public, she worked for over 50 years as a waitress at the Club Cafe and the Silver Moon Restaurant. She was also an avid Santa Rosa Lion's fan and a member of the Lion's "Road Crew". She enjoyed quilting, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed the many hours "cruising" through Santa Rosa with her friends. Isabel is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas Conway in 1972, a son Michael Esquibel in 2000, two brothers Abel and Lawrence Esquibel, a sister Mary Dillard, and two aunts Monica Velasquez and Amelia Huffmaster. Isabel was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, she will be missed by her family including a daughter Susan Conway of Albuquerque, a son Thomas and wife Leslie Conway of Albuquerque, 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, five brothers Raymond Esquibel, Tony Esquibel both of Los Angeles, CA, Joe Esquibel of Santa Rosa, Pete Esquibel of Las Cruces, Patricio Esquibel of Santa Fe, two sisters Clarita Silva of Albuquerque, and Louisa Romero of Clovis. Also surviving is an aunt raised as a sister Lizzie Vigil of Albuquerque and two beloved cousins Mike Velasquez and Jerry Velasquez both of Albuquerque. Visitation hours will be Sunday from 2pm to 6pm and Monday from 1pm to 5pm at the funeral home. A rosary will be recited at 6pm Monday, December 22, 2014 from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, NM. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am Tuesday, December 23, 2014 from the church with Father Sotero A. ZOWNIR, MICHAEL Michael Zownir, 98, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather died peacefully on Friday, December 19th, 2014 with his family by his side. Mike was born on February 13, 1916 in New York City. He was the third of 5 sons. He married Josephine Andrukites and they came to New Mexico in the early 1950's, settled in Albuquerque and had three daughters. He worked as a carpenter and miniature parts machinist at Sandia Labs and Model Products. He enjoyed a sunny day at the golf course, the ponies at the races, and was an expert pool player, winning first place ribbons in the Senior Olympics. He was the co-inventor of the patented billiards Zee Tip Truer and Trimmer. He loved music and played the drums for many years. Mike was a member of the Greatest Generation. A proud WW II Marine he served on the USS General O.H. Ernst in Guadalcanal and Okinawa. He was with Easy Company, Second Battalion, First Regiment. In Okinawa he was shot and received a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged as Corporal from the US Marine Corps on April 5, 1946. He has since displayed a lighted flag in his window to show his dedication to keeping America free. Semper Fi. Mike joined the American Legion - Post 13, and served in many capacities from Business Manager to Concert Band Leader of the Dukes of Albuquerque. He dearly loved playing music with all of his fellow musicians every Thursday night at Posts 13 and 99. He was proud to have served his country in times of war and peace and to be the longest time member of the Oldest Continuous American Legion Band in the United States. He was also a member of the VFW, Albuquerque Musicians Local 618 and the Rio Grande Jazz Society. He loved his family most of all, Josephine Zownir; Linda Potts (John) and sons Brian (Maria), Chad (Mary Anne), and Ben; Madelyn (Katy) Zownir-Brazis (Tony) and daughter Valerie Brazis; and Melody Zownir (Jim Bess) and daughter Jesse and son Tyler. He was so happy to know all of his ten great-grandchildren Luke, Mark, Blaise, Illana, Charlotte, John, Michael, Jude, Helen and Isaac (Potts). He also thought of Helen, Diane, Michelle, Patti, Steve, Susan, Tom, George and Ron, and the Wixon family very often. He cherished his great friendships with special friends, co-workers at Sandia, members of the band and friends at the race track. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Lance Rudolph and staff for many years of the very best care through thick and thin. Thank you to the VA Home Based Primary Care Team, especially Mary Jo Hendricks, CNP, and team members Sherri, Nancy, Judy, Yuuki, Melanie, Gail, and Kathy. Thank you to Heritage for their caring support. Thank you to Ambercare, which was there in the nick of time. Thank you to all the friends he made and for all the music he played for 98 years. Thank you for your visits in the later years; your smiles and kind words made all the difference. He always had a funny story, a kind word, a generous heart, and a beautiful crystal blue eyed smile. Mike was a true, honest and brave gentle man. He'd always say MAKE THE MOST OF IT, and he truly did! In lieu of flowers, please take a loved one to listen to some music, perhaps dance, look at the stars and remember Michael. A celebration of Mike's life will be posted on the Riverside Funerals website at a near future date, and also in a future announcement. LAHR, ANTHONY "TONY" Anthony "Tony" Lahr age 49, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2014. He was born in Lemoore, CA on October 20, 1965. He was preceded in death by his brother Michael Lahr. Anthony is survived father Captain John Jude Lahr and mother Janice C. Lahr of Albuquerque, NM; sister Christina Gordon and husband David of Roanoke, VA; brothers John Jude Lahr II (Jay) and wife Sandra of El Paso, TX and Nicholas Jude Lahr and wife Laura of Albuquerque, NM; much loved companion Valerie Parish; several nieces and nephews. Anthony was a very active golfer, hunter, fisherman and fun loving guy. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be held in mid January of 2015.
