RAGAN -- R.B. Ragan, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since the mid 1930s, died Friday, September 16, 2005. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, whom he affectionately called his "Pretty Precious Bodacious"; daughter, Cathy Ann Caswell and husband, Bill; daughter, Sandra Lee Ragan; grandson, Jeremy Caswell; brother, Arley Ragan and wife, Peggy; brother-in-law, James Seamster and wife, Nancy; a very special mother-in-law, Dorothy Brawn; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins, all of whom he was very fond. Mr. Ragan was born in Cherryvale, KS to Eddie V. and Cora K. Ragan. He attended local schools, Five Points Elementary, Washington Jr. High, and Albuquerque High School (class of 1943). He was a member of the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. Mr. Ragan was employed by Albuquerque National Bank (Sunwest Bank) for 44 years, from December 1946 until he retired in August 1990 as Senior Vice President. As a young man, R.B. was dedicated to sports. He was active on a local level in competitive AAU sports including softball, basketball, as well as bowling and golf. Always a die-hard Lobo fan, he participated actively in the UNM Lobo Club as fundraiser, board member and officer for many years. During his employment with Albuquerque National Bank and with community activities, he was active in several areas of community relations. He was fundraiser for United Community Fund as well as Division Head and Vice Chairman of one of its yearly drives. He served on several other agency boards in various capacities including Albuquerque Boys Club, First United Methodist Church and State AAU. He was President of the Albuquerque Junior Chamber of Commerce, Bernalillo County Chairman of the March of Dimes Annual Fund Drive, State Chairman Federated Service Campaign for National Health Agencies and on two U.S. Olympic Committees for New Mexico. He considered this time as well spent for himself, his employer and his favorite city. After his retirement, R.B. chaired the Sunwest Charlie Pride Senior PGA Golf Tournament which he enjoyed doing. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Thursday, September 22, 2005, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE with Rev. David Okerberg officiating. ELDRIDGE -- L.O. Eldridge, 73, died on September 18, 2005. Mr. Eldridge was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Constance LaRue, who died on September 7, 2005. He is survived by their children: Caprice Eldridge-Lane and her husband, Rick; Marlowe Eldridge, M.D. and his wife, Caroline; Cameron "Dusty" Eldridge and his wife, Katy; and Chad Eldridge and his wife, Shirley. He is also survived by three brothers: Bill (Louise), Mutt (Margaret) and Sammy Eldridge; and two sisters: Mary Ceroni and Bessie Heath; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The family of Mr. Eldridge will be reflecting on his life with a Graveside Service on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park. VEACH -- Ronald Veach, 77, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Champaign, IL, died Sunday, September 18, 2005. He is survived by his daughters, Marcia Haill and husband, Tom of Albuquerque and Karen Chalverus and husband, Bill, also of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Helena Chalverus, Kimberley Long and husband, Jason, Jessica Faucett and husband, Joshua, Claire Wright, and Emma Chalverus; great-grandchildren, Hannah Long, Elias Camelo-Chalverus, and Caleb Long. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Margaret Veach. Ronald sang in the choirs of Monte Vista Community Church in Albuquerque and Community United Church of Christ in Champaign, IL. He was an avid jogger and completed eight marathons. Before retirement he was loan officer at First Federal Savings Bank in Champaign. Cremation has taken place. BIRGE -- Walter C. Birge, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on September 14, 2005 after a long illness. He was born to Walter C. and Ruth Byrne Birge on July 6, 1918 in Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth Berry Morrison, who passed away in 1988; his parents; his brother, Jim; and sister, Letty Wren. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Arneberg, of Chicago, IL; children, Beth Gattas Waskow and husband, John, Sue Howard and husband, Dwight; Martha Birge, Becky Canfield and husband, Michael, Peggy Brodsky and husband, Bill, John Birge of Albuquerque, and Nora Goodloe and husband, Rick, of Atlanta, GA; 13 grandchildren, Jeff and Brian Gattas of California, Bethie Gattas, Emily and Ted Howard, Kathryn, Erin, Claire and Colleen Canfield, and Rivkela and Ariela Brodsky of Albuquerque, Burke Goodloe and wife, Dawn of Atlanta and Jenna Goodloe Wade and husband, Jack of Memphis, TN; three great-grandchildren, Ryan and Keely Goodloe of Atlanta and Burke Wade of Memphis, TN; his sister-in-law, Julia "Cissie" O'Malley; many nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Margaret Mangham. Walter graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago in 1936. He joined the Army Air Corps, served in World War II as a bombardier and was a bombardier instructor at Kirtland AFB. In 1959, Walter graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Walter served as a career officer in the Air Force and retired in Albuquerque in 1969 after receiving his Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma. After moving to Albuquerque, Walter worked for the University of New Mexico for 31 years. He initiated the UNM Parking Service and directed it for ten years. After that he enjoyed working at the UNM South and North Golf Courses until his retirement in 2003. Wally was an avid golfer, talker and a wonderful father. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2005 at Queen of Heaven, 5311 Phoenix Avenue NE, Albuquerque. OLAGUE -- ERNEST P. Retired APD Sgt. Ernest P. Olague 78 years old, passed away on September 15, 2005. Ernie is survived by his son, Larry Olague and wife, Cathy, daughter, Patricia Gabaldon and husband, Henry; sons, Stanley Olague and David Olague; daughter, Jeannie Gabaldon and husband, Willie; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; longtime companion, Jennie Beserra and her family, all of Albuquerque. Ernie is also survived by his brother, Bill Olague and wife, Ruth of Shreveport, LA; and sister-in-law, Jenny Olague of Chino Valley, AZ. As well as many nieces and nephews, other family and friends who loved and will miss him. Ernie proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He retired from the Albuquerque Police Department in 1978 after 29 years with the department. Ernie is a past president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #1, 1969-1974. After retiring from APD he worked as a fraud investigator for Sunwest Bank retiring in 1996. Ernie was very active with the American Legion, serving as Commander of Post 99 from 1992-1994, and Department of New Mexico Commander from 1998-1999. As Chairman of the Legislative Committee for Veterans Affairs Ernie was instrumental in passing legislation to allow gaming at fraternal organizations in NM. Because of his diligent work many charities have benefited from this legislation. Ernie was very proud of his family and they were very proud of him. He was much loved and will be deeply missed. The Rosary will be recited at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church 5311 Phoenix Ave NE, at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2005. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on September 20, 2005 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Roy Gabaldon, Michael Gabaldon, Robert Gardiner, Brian Gardiner, Stephen Gardiner and Shane Dedig. THIAS -- Louis H. Thias, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, died Friday, September 16, 2005. He is survived by his three daughters, Mary Smith and husband, Bill of Phoenix, AZ, Carol Saavedra and husband, Ronn of Albuquerque, and Pamela Wilson of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Pete Landau, Jeff Smith, Linda Bailey, Mary Bailey, and Megan Thias; four step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Lou was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Thias in 1998. He was born in Seymour, IN on February 22, 1918. Lou served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He and his family moved to Albuquerque in 1960 where he worked for AT&T until his retirement in 1983. Lou was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. MCMANN-MEREDITH -- Kellie Sue McMann-Meredith died suddenly on September 7, 2005 at the age of 45. She was born in Des Moines, IA on June 22, 1960. Kellie has lived in San Bernardino, CA for the last 15 years. She is survived by her mother, Kay McMann (Rio Rancho); her husband Doug; and children: Kaitlind and Karl (San Bernardino); brother, Gregg McMann (Albuquerque) and wife, Dee; sister, Lorie Julander (Corrales) and husband, Bill; father-in-law, Richard and sister-in-law, Kathy Goodman of Florida; three nieces; three nephews; aunts and uncles.
