Hoyt -- Leslie (Shorty) C. Hoyt, 83, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, died Friday, April 12, 2002 at Lovelace Hospital. Leslie C. Hoyt, son of Frank and Grace (Rhines) Hoyt, was born at Braddock, ND on November 16, 1918. He lived in and around the Elliott and Lisbon, ND area until the age of 20. He married Evelyn G. Kennedy at Gary, Minnesota on January 3, 1939. They lived in Gary, Minn until 1949 when they moved to Dell Rapids, SD. In 1955 he and his family moved to Aberdeen, SD where he managed Servall Towel and Linen Supply until his retirement in 1986. In 1993 he and his wife moved to Albuquerque, NM where he resided until his death. Leslie started golfing after his retirement at the age of 65. On May 24, 1988, at the age of 79, he got his first hole-in-one. On March 26, 2000, he got his second hole-in-one, at the age of 81. All his family and friends wanted to golf with him, but only to try and beat him. Many tried but many failed. Family members surviving Mr. Hoyt include his wife of 63 years, Evelyn of Albuquerque; his dog Bubba; three sons, Richard Hoyt of Palm Desert, CA, Loren Hoyt of Albuquerque, NM, Larry Hoyt and wife, April of Burlington, Kentucky; six daughters, Patricia Giese of Albuquerque, NM, Sharon Castro and husband, Andy of Riverside, CA, Jan Dehne and husband, Richard of Hecla, SD, Lois (Dodie) Wagemann and husband, Darwin of Albuquerque, NM, Dixie Johnson and husband, Dennis of Goodwin, SD and Penny Louder and husband, Robert of Albuquerque, NM. Leslie had 36 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother, and two son-in-laws, Laurel Rott and Rev. Raymond Giese. Pallbearers are grandsons, Mike Huber of Redding, CA, Eddie Rott of Lakewood, CA, Mark Hoyt of LaQuinta, CA, Jamie Dehne of Miami, FL, Mark Giese of Santa Fe, NM, Kirk Hoyt of Burlington, KY, Mitch Huber of Albuquerque, NM and Shaun McPartland of Albuquerque, NM, Rodney Dehne of Spearfish, SD, and Bill Hoyt of Burlington, KY. Honorary pallbearers are all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Service will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary-Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd., NW (3 Blocks North of Paseo Del Norte) with Rev. Harold Johnson, presiding. Friends may visit French Mortuary-Westside Chapel, Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Gallegos -- Larry Joseph Gallegos, 48, a resident of Albuquerque passed away April 11, 2002. He is survived by his father, Larry Botteger; sister, Laura Michelle; and brother, Lindsey James Gallegos. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Duran; and a sister, Lorraine Jo Gallegos in 2000. Phillips -- Harold E. Phillips, an Albuquerque resident for 61 years, died Monday, April 8, 2002. Born in Clifton, Colorado on April 15, 1917, he was raised in Palisades, Colorado and graduated from Grand Junction high school in 1936. After attending Colorado A & M, he began a career in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He married Barbara Kimmel of Grand Junction in 1938 and was assigned to the Albuquerque District of the Corps of Engineers in 1941 remaining there until retirement in 1970. Harold loved spending time outdoors working in his yard and fishing in the Colorado Mountains. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of 62 years; children, Richard and wife, Sanette, of Amarillo, TX; Linda McConahy and husband Larry, of Albuquerque, Jim and wife, Pat of Farmington, NM; grandchildren, Brian and Eve McConahy of Longmont, CO, Jason and Sara McConahy of Ft. Collins, CO, Charles and Kim Phillips of Krum, TX, Jocelyn Phillips of Amarillo, TX, Leslie Armell of New York City and Julia Phillips of Farmington, NM; great-grandchildren, Scott, Laura, Anna, Nathan and Micaela McConahy and Kelsey Phillips; brother, Emory of Seattle, WA; and numerous loved cousins, nieces and nephews. Mendoza -- Andrew Mendoza, 79, a resident of Albuquerque was called to be with the Lord on Monday, April 8, 2002 after a short illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lillian Mendoza; daughters, Janet Schupp and husband, Tony, Evelyn Dimas, and Christina Schiller and husband, Jackie; sons, Larry Mendoza, Andrew Mendoza Jr., and Robert Mendoza; sister, Francis Segura; brother, Julian Mendoza; five grandchildren, Nichole Schupp, Jason Schupp, Joseph Dimas, Danielle Dimas, and Michelle Mendoza. Andrew was a World War II Veteran and retired from Gulton Industries in 1986. He was a member of the American Legion Post 99 and was a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. He was greatly loved by his family and friends and will be sorely missed. A viewing will be held in the Chapel of Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th St. NW., on Thursday, April 11, 2002 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Services will he held at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas and Tennessee NE.. Platero -- Russell Adam Patrick Platero, age 21, beloved and devoted son, brother, grandson, and friend was called home to be with the Lord, our Savior, Sunday, April 7, 2002. Russell was born in Albuquerque and was a resident of Canoncito, NM. He was a 1999 Graduate of West Mesa High School; he was continuing his education at the University of New Mexico. Russell's hobbies were hunting and fishing. He is survived by his loving parents, Lawrence and Cornelia Platero of Canoncito; his brother, Wesley Platero; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Joe, Sr. of Sanders, AZ and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Tsosie of Crown Point, NM; paternal grandmother, Rose Platero of Canoncito; and paternal great-grandmother, Marie Trujillo of Taos Pueblo. Also surviving are his girlfriend, Vanessa Vasquez; other relatives and a host of friends. Russell will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Final viewing will be this morning from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. Funeral services will be this morning at 9:00 a.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Baca -- Darlene Baca, age 39, a beloved and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend was welcomed into the arms of the Lord, our Savior, Sunday, April 7, 2002. Darlene was born in Espanola, NM and was a resident of Corrales, NM. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Yvonne Baca; her grandmothers, Odilia G. Montoya, and Juanita Archuleta; and grandfather Margarito Archuleta. Darlene is survived by her husband, Larry Baca; two sons, Joey and James Baca; two daughters, Jessica and Kristy Baca all of the family home; her parents, Mel Sr. and Bernice Archuleta of El Rito, NM; three brothers, Mel Archuleta, Jr. and wife Elena, Sammy Archuleta and wife, Pauline, Nelson Archuleta and wife, Viola; one sister, Vicky Jojola and husband, Rick; maternal grandfather, Benny Montoya. Also surviving are her father and mother-in-law, Leo and Romie Baca; sister-in-law, Liz Templeton; brother-in-law, Leon Baca; grandfather-in-law, Samuel Salazar; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Faulkner -- Oneda Faulkner, 79, a resident of Bernalillo county since 1963, died on Friday, April 5, 2002 after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Victor; two brothers; and a sister. Oneda was loved and will be dearly missed by sons, Jerry and wife, Joyce of Bosque Farms, Lewis (Skeeter) and wife, Barbara of Espanola and Larry of Belen; daughters, Vicky and husband, Larry Rice of Camp Verde, AZ, Judy and husband, Bob Gunn of Avondale, AZ and Thelma Faulkner of Chandler, AZ; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Wanda Martin of Lakewood, WA and Reba Cooper of Elmer, LA.
