SMITH -- Max A Smith, 86, was born January 25, 1925 in Vermillion, Kansas to Leslie F. and Ferne A. Hybskmann Smith and died May 4, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Arlene Pierce Smith; daughters; Caroline Gilley and husband Terry, Christine Grinde, Elaine Prentice and husband Stephen; his son, Kent Smith and wife Karen; and his grandchildren, Marcus, Cheryl, Eric, Darrin, Daniel, Christopher, Stacey, seven great-grandchildren, and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Warren and sister Lesley. Max graduated from Westmoreland Rural High School and after three years in the US Army during WW II, received a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University. Max and Arlene first met playing in the Kansas State marching band and were married in 1948. For their 50th wedding anniversary, they took their entire family of 18 on a cruise to Alaska. Even before graduation from Kansas State, Lew Kohlhaas hired Max as engineer for the Kohlhaas Tank and Equipment Company and he worked for them as engineer and vice president for 30 years, his entire working career. He was a registered professional engineer; was past Chairman of the New Mexico Section for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a life member of that organization. He was also past president of the Purchasing Management Association of New Mexico, a life member and a Certified Purchasing Manager. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge, York Rite Bodies, Ballut Abyad Shrine, and Rotary club of Albuquerque, American Legion and the DAV. Max was also a member of the Chaparral Chapter of Family Motor Coach Association and the Los Altos and Old Timers golf associations. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 60 years and sang for years in the choir and played bells in the bell choir. He played trumpet his entire life, starting at age 10 and played in Shrine bands, Legion Post 13 bands and was leader of the Rotary Brass of the Rotary Club of Albuquerque. Max played in dance bands in college and was a member of the American Federation of Musicians. For years, he was "Your Friendly Information Person" on Saturday mornings at Presbyterian Hospital as a volunteer. On doctors' orders, in 1979, Max walked 3 miles every day and claimed to have walked around the world (24,000 miles) three miles at a time. He made a list of 400 towns and places and 12 countries where he had walked. LLOYD -- Elizabeth Lloyd, 68, long time resident of Albuquerque lost her battle with breast cancer on Monday, April 18, 2011 and is now in God's hand's. She was born on January 29, 1943 in Burkburnett, Texas to Meryl and H. C. Clayton Hill. She is survived by her children, son, Donald Lloyd, Jr. and daughter, Charlene Lloyd; grandson, Christopher Fincher; granddaughters, Melissa Fincher, Amanda Jackson, and Chelsea Gomez; great-grandchildren, Naomi Jackson, A.J. Lewis, and Jacob Lewis; three sisters, Mildred Hargrove, Necia Wolfe, and Lela McAuley Castillo, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and extended family members. Elizabeth was preceded in death by three sisters, Daurice, Glenna, and Jessie, and two brothers, Conan and Jason. She grew up in a family of nine children spending her younger years in Long Beach, CA. After graduating from Long Beach Poly High School she married Donald Jay Lloyd and raised her family in Ventura County. She worked for Citizen State Bank for 30 years starting as a teller and working her way up to Vice President. Following her retirement from the bank she owned and operated Bid Tyme Return Antique Mall in Ventura. She had many hobbies, most notably, reading, spending time with her grandchildren, and in her later years she found a great passion for acting. Elizabeth was proud to work as an extra in films that were being filmed in Albuquerque including Beerfest, Employee of the month, and No Country for Old Men. She also appeared in many commercials. She and her sister Lela were inseparable through out their lives and moved to Albuquerque to be near their sister Mildred where Lizzy spent the remainder of her life. Per her wishes she will be cremated and her family and friends will be celebrating her life at Elena Gallegos State Park, 7100 Tramway Blvd. NE, 87122 on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. Her family will also have a celebration in Ventura, CA at a later date. MUSSER -- Gloria M. Musser, 82, passed away on April 13, 2011. Gloria was a resident of Albuquerque for most of her life. She was born in Alva, OK on January 17, 1929 to Harlan and Lois Farabee. She is survived by her daughter, Diann Walkinshaw of Albuquerque, NM; sons, Larry W. Butler, Englewood, CO; Jimmy Doug Butler, Farmington, NM; Mark D. Butler, Denver, CO; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was a wonderful person who loved life. A generous soul, who regularly donated to charities, including the Disabled American Veterans and the Animal Humane Society of New Mexico. Gloria loved gardening and caring for her puppies. She adored her great-grand daughter, Kiley and spent many loving hours playing with her. What grand times they had together! She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Monday, April 18, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with funeral services at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel. Burial will follow at Sandia Memory Gardens. DONKERSLEY -- Raymond Donkersley was born in Liverpool, England, January 18, 1928 and passed away March 27, 2011 at age 83. Ray is survived by one sister, Margaret H. Donkersley, Mariposa, CA; his wife, Evangeline; two sons, James, Keith and wife, Linda; two grandchildren, Ashley and Michael; sisters-in-law, Ramona Valerio and fiance Derek Workman, Connie Martinez of Penasco, NM, Rose Diaz, husband, Chris of Buena Park , CA, Col. Lydia S. Collins of Belleflower, CA and fiance Col. Mike Ewens of Ventura, CA ; brother-in-law, Victor Martinez, wife, Barbara of Penasco, NM; and many nephews and nieces. Ray was a member of the Democratic Party in Bernalillo County where he served as ward chair in the 1970 for 28B. He was also a member of the County Central Committee. Ray was executive director for Customwood Mfr. for 19 years. After retiring, his son, Keith, and himself operated K&R Mfr for 20 years. EVANS -- Alvin Leroy Evans Alvin Leroy Evans, 83, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque passed away January 14, 2011. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann and brother, Kenneth Evans, both of Albuquerque. He is survived by two brothers, John T. Evans and Ray Farrow; son, John L. Evans and wife, Marene; grandchildren, Thomas Evans, Keri and husband, Wayne Steplowski; one great-grandson, Michael; two daughters, Marianne and Patricia Evans; and two special girls, Karen Siko and Loretta Micek, all of Albuquerque, along with many nephews, nieces, family and friends. Al was a Navy veteran of WWII. He came back home to work for Mountain Bell and later worked in communications at Manzano Base for 18 years where he left to manage Sandia Peak Ski Area. There he was known as "Uncle Al" for the soft way he helped the many children that skied. He was a member of Albuquerque Ski Club. Al was an avid fisherman who loved to fish the Chama River at El Vado Ranch and passed this passion to his children. A celebration of life will be held April 2, 2011 at 7:00 PM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 9500 Constitution Ave NE. In accordance with Al's wishes cremation has taken place and interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
