LOPEZ -- Mercedes Lopez, a longtime resident of Las Vegas and Albuquerque, passed away surrounded by her niece and her family, Erlinda, Eddie, Martin, and Kevin Lujan on Wednesday, March 25, 2009. She is survived by her brothers, Marcos Ortega of Anton Chico, and Pacomio Ortega and wife, Uta of Las Vegas; granddaughter, Katie; many nieces and nephews and special friends, Phillip and Julia Gonzales and their daughter, Valerie. Mrs. Lopez was preceded in death by her husband, Aladino Lopez and son, Aladino "Dino" Lopez. Mercedes was a long time parishioner at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. She retired from Lovelace Medical Center. Rosary will be recited, Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 9:30 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Place S.E. Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. N.E. CARREJO -- Jessie Carrejo, 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1966, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2009. Jessie is survived by his daughter Irene V. Clark of Albuquerque; grandson Anthony J. Clark and his wife Anna Maria Clark of Albuquerque; great-granddaughters Erica Torrez, Shyenne Clark, Sierra Clark, Toni Ann Clark, and Andrea Clark; great-grandson Elijah Torrez; and sisters Paula Downing and her husband Frank of Ohio, Betty Sanchez and her husband Mundo of El Paso, TX, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Erma Carrejo, and daughter Nancy Carrejo. Jessie enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He transferred to the Army and retired after 21 years of service. Jessie was also a Corrections Officer, retiring from the New Mexico Corrections Department in 1985. He was a member of the American Legion Post 49, Veterans of Foreign Wars 401, and the Moose Lodge 1577. Friends and family may visit Jessie at Aspen Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at American Legion Post 49 on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at 11:30 a.m., at 11005 Central Ave. NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Vern Wilson, Charlie Andrews, Albert Chavez, Louis DeHerrera, Michael Lujan, Richard Garcia, and Phil Elkins. ESTRADA -- Virginia (Lujan) Estrada, age 66, a former resident of Bernalillo, passed away, Saturday, March 21, 2009, in Las Vegas, NM. Mrs. Estrada was born on November 5, 1942, in Bernalillo, NM to Ramon and Vicentita Lujan. She graduated from Our Lady of Sorrows High School in 1961. Virginia married Ralph Estrada on May 22, 1965. She is survived by her mother, Vicentita Lujan; daughter, Stephanie Perea and husband Paul; son, Lawrence Estrada; grandchildren, Elisha Carrillo, Joshua & Julian Perea; great-grandson, Simon Trujeque; brothers, Manuel and Julio Lujan; sisters, Cecilia Moya and husband Tony, Arabella Lujan, Betty Lujan, Theresa Lujan and Dolores Lujan. Mrs. Estrada was preceded in death by her father Ramon; husband Ralph; and sister, Loretta. A Rosary will be recited this evening Wednesday, March 25th at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Bernalillo. BARELA -- Cicilio Gabby Barela of Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully from the arms of his loving family and of His Lord on Friday, February 27, 2009. Gabby was born on January 21, 1951 in Albuquerque, NM to Remijio and Lucy Barela. He was survived by his mother Lucy Barela, his daughters Melissa Benavidez, Stephanie Quintana and husband Anthony, his granddaughter Mariah Lujan, his sons Christopher and Brian Barela, grandson Lakai Salizar. Gabby is also survived by his brother Remjio Barela Jr. and wife Arlene; sister Rita Candelaria and husband Leroy; sister Fela B. Castaneda; brother Emilio Barela and wife Karla; brother Ernest Barela and wife Veronica; 11 nephews and seven nieces. He was preceded in death by father Remijio Barela and sister Laura Barela. Gabby began his career with Creamland Dairy before serving the City of Albuquerque for over 20 years both in the Transit and Water Authority Departments. Gabby loved to sing, dance, and make music with his family and friends. His weekends and free time were always filled with activities such as hiking, fishing, bowling, and going to the movies with his granddaughter Mariah. Rosary and viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 7:00 p.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 309 Stover Ave SW (4th and Stover). Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., also at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Gabby was a loving father who was loved unconditionally by his family.
