BARELA -- Cicilio Gabby Barela of Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully from the arms of his loving family and of His Lord on Friday, February 27, 2009. Gabby was born on January 21, 1951 in Albuquerque, NM to Remijio and Lucy Barela. He was survived by his mother Lucy Barela, his daughters Melissa Benavidez, Stephanie Quintana and husband Anthony, his granddaughter Mariah Lujan, his sons Christopher and Brian Barela, grandson Lakai Salizar. Gabby is also survived by his brother Remjio Barela Jr. and wife Arlene; sister Rita Candelaria and husband Leroy; sister Fela B. Castaneda; brother Emilio Barela and wife Karla; brother Ernest Barela and wife Veronica; eleven nephews; and seven nieces. He was preceded in death by father Remijio Barela and sister Laura Barela. Gabby began his career with Creamland Dairy before serving the City of Albuquerque for over 20 years both in the Transit and Water Authority Departments. Gabby loved to sing, dance, and make music with his family and friends. His weekends and free time were always filled with activities such as hiking, fishing, bowling, and going to the movies with his granddaughter Mariah. Rosary and viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the San Jose Parish 2401 Broadway Blvd. SE. Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. also at the San Jose Parish. Gabby was a loving father who was loved unconditionally by his family. BEUTLER -- Leroy passed away Thursday afternoon, February 26, at Presbyterian Hospital as a result of a fall at his residence. Mr. Beutler was born Heber Leroy Beutler on May 23, 1927 to Heber Fredrick Beutler and Beulah Aston Beutler in Emmett, Idaho. He was 81. Leroy leaves Jan, his beloved wife of 35 years, of the family home. He is also survived by his four daughters, Janet Tanner, Kathleen MacGregor, Karen Lee Beutler all of Albuquerque and Ann Beutler Fredrichsen (Ralph) of Nashville, TN. He is also survived by Jan's children, Patrick Shanklin (Jennifer) of Hudsonville, MI, Dawn Brazell (Turner), Kathleen Kelley of the family home and Lawson Shanklin (Karen) all of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Kinnear (John) of Santa Ana, CA and Delores Jackson (Boyd) of Payette, ID. He leaves behind his faithful companion, his dog "Sasha". Preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, a special cousin, Bob Kroush, and Jan's daughter, Colleen. He leaves many relatives in Boise and surrounding areas to whom he was close. Leroy was a legend in the field of all areas of insurance. He was Managing Partner of Clinton P. Anderson Agency until it became part of Alexander and Alexander with the title of President of A&A New Mexico. A&A was absorbed by AON Corporation at a later date. Leroy decided on retirement from the industry January 1988 and lived the life of a "gentleman farmer" until his health began to fail. Moving back to the "big city" he underwent open heart surgery in 1998. He developed an irregular heart beat that did not respond to treatment and COPD (emphysema) and was homebound for the last few years of his life under the care of his favorite nurse, Jan, and daughter, Kathleen. He suffered a fall early morning February 26, resulting in his death 12 hours later. He held many offices in the insurance industry and in civic and service organizations, too numerous to list. A member of Rotary Club, Ballut Abyad Shrine, Elks, National and New Mexico Associations of Independent Insurance Agents, he was humbled to be considered friend by all with whom he was associated. A man of great integrity, his word and handshake were his bond. Highly respected in the Insurance industry, he began his career with General Insurance Company in the early fifties and moved to New Mexico as Manager of their Albuquerque office in 1954 becoming a lengthy association with the Anderson Agency a few years later. He will be greatly missed by his family, his business associates and his friends of whom he reminisced frequently. Leroy requested no services be held and cremation has taken place. Friends may either call or contact his wife, Jan at the family home in Albuquerque. CORCORAN -- Kathryn (Katie) Louise Corcoran, age 44, passed away suddenly from a systemic infection on Saturday February 28, 2009. She is survived by her best friend and love of her life of 27 years, Randy L. Corcoran and her sons Ryan (11) and John (9). She leaves behind her parents Les and Joyce Croughan; sisters Alison (Bruce) Davies, Heather (Reggie) Russell; brothers Andy (Wendy) Croughan and Scott (Deb) Croughan; father-in -law Tom Corcoran, and the late Nancy Corcoran; sisters-in-law Kelly (Stephen) Patterson, Darcy (Mark) Savage and brother-in-law Chris Corcora; and many nieces and nephews. Katie was a 1982 graduate of Highland High School and graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Mary's University in San, Antonio, Texas, 1986. She married in 1988. She spent her career as Vice President of Downey & Company Insurance and Bonds working with her dear friend and mentor Roger Downey. Though she excelled and valued her career, her zest for life and devotion to family and friends were unsurpassed. Katie enjoyed every moment with her boys, "Rhino" aka "her Babycakes" and her little "Burrito Boy" aka "Boogerboy" and "Juanitoad". She was so proud of her boys and her most precious time was the afternoon shuttle rides with them where she was able to experience their day. Katie was a tireless supporter of numerous causes and touched many lives. Anyone fortunate to have received the "Katie hug" will know that they have been touched by an angel. Her family will never be able to replace their "delicate flower" or "hot chick" as she so self-proclaimed. DEROCHIE -- Thomas McLennan DeRochie August 11, 1937 - February 23, 2009 Tom DeRochie died Monday, February 23, 2009 at home in Paso Robles, CA, after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife, Catherine M. DeRochie of Paso Robles, CA; her daughter, Rachel Zamora of Denver, CO; his sister Anne Burton of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; daughter, Theresa E. Almaraz of Churchton, MD; son, Thomas A. DeRochie of Tijeras, NM; stepson, Monty Gariss of New Mexico; Elizabeth F. DeRochie of Albuquerque, NM and three precious grandchildren, Adam, Randy & Sarah. His beloved parents, Esther Lynch DeRochie and Dennis Arnold DeRochie, preceded Tom in death. Tom was born in Albuquerque, NM, he leaves behind many friends and extended family. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009. FERNANDEZ -- Patricia "Trish" Fernandez, 65, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on February 25, 2009. "The kindest, sweetest person you'd ever meet" and a friend and educator to so many, Trish was born on May 28, 1943 to Edward and Mary (Chambers) Otten of Milledgeville, IL. She graduated from Clovis High School in 1961, and earned her B.A. in English from the University of New Mexico in 1966. Mrs. Fernandez, also known as Ms. Robison, taught English and Speech at Belen High School until her retirement in 2004. She was well liked by both her peers and students and inspired many students to achieve their greatest potential. Her greatest joy was spending time with her six much loved grandchildren. She loved to celebrate events and special occasions, such as the Oscars and other occasions by hosting parties. Mrs. Fernandez was an excellent cook and loved to entertain. In her spare time, she mastered the art of knitting and shared her creations with her family and friends. Her sister recalls Trish's love of swimming beginning at a young age at the Y.M.C.A. Trish is preceded in death by her parents and her step-mother, Sara. She is survived by her husband, Roger Fernandez, of the family home in Albuquerque; her sons, Sam Robison, and his wife, Claudia, of Albuquerque, NM, George Robison and his wife, Christine, of Detroit, MI; stepchildren, Robin Fernandez and her partner, James Baca, and Elliott Fernandez, both of Albuquerque; her adored grandchildren, Savannah, Sammy, Sofia, Mia, James, Julian, and another who is on her way; her sister, Pam Burden and her husband, Ron, of Cottonwood, AZ; dear friends, Effie Murphy and Sara Maley; and numerous cousins and other friends who will miss her very much. FESSENDEN -- Delmore L. Fessenden, 85, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 26, 2009. Del is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sharon; his children Sue Schanze and her husband Bob, Sandy Andreessen and her husband Dean, and Richard Fessenden and his wife Cecilia; ten grandchildren Michelle, Michael, Mark, Jeff, Steven, Jon, Aaron, Allison, Kimberly and Kyle: seven great-grandchildren: Halley, Bryce, Madison, Bradley, Colby, Gunnar and Riley; siblings Duane and his wife Gloria, Darlene and her husband Chuck, Dorothy and her husband Keith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Del grew up on the farm that his grandfather homesteaded in South Dakota. His family moved to Miltonvale, Kansas where he finished high school. Subsequently, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and became a pilot. After WWII he returned to Ball State University where he earned a Master's in Education. He never lost his love of flying and after teaching for three years, he reenlisted as a pilot in the Air Force. He retired as a full Colonel in 1980. He then moved to Albuquerque where he met and married Sharon. He was a commercial real estate agent for 15 years with The Vaughn Co. Del became a Christian at the age of 13 and served his Lord throughout his lifetime. He served as a choir director, Sunday school teacher, worked with youth, and served on several church boards. He taught a Bible study class at Hoffmantown through January 25 - two days before his recent illness. Del touched so many lives with his genuiness and kindness. Visitation will be Monday, March 2, 2009, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd., NE. Service will be Tuesday, March 3, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at French Lomas Chapel. FOSTER -- Irving Alden Foster, 79, of Roswell passed away on February 27, 2009. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.. All friends and family are invited to visit with the family following the ceremony at the home of Cheri Melkus. Irving was born on August 27, 1929 in Oak Park, IL to James Moulton Foster and Orla Mae Rouse. Both parents preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his brother James Foster. Irving married Kathleen Pitt in Chicago, IL on June 14, 1952. They moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1957 where they until 1990. At this point, they began their travels in their RV. Irving and Kathy moved to Roswell in 2007. Irving was a salesman by trade and worked for General Electric, Gorman Appliance Company, and most recently at Lehman Appliance in Casa Grande, AZ. Irving loved to fish and also loved to work with his hands, creating beautiful stained glass works of art. He was a loving husband and companion to Kathy, wonderful father, grandfather, and friend. He shared his love of fishing and camping with his three grandsons, Drew, Ryan, and Kiel. Irving is survived by his wife, Kathy at the family home in Roswell; his son, Jeffery Foster of Albuquerque, NM; daughters, Vicki Sue Garrett and husband Les of Albuquerque, NM and Cheri Lynn Melkus of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Priscilla Jean Burnham of Florida; three grandsons, Andrew Dwight Kellner and his wife, Ruthi, Ryan Alexander Melkus, and Kiel Alan Melkus; two great-grandsons, Adin Dwight Kellner and Riley Dean Kellner. NALLS -- Ann R. Nalls of San Angelo, Texas passed away peacefully on February 27th. Ann was born to Lucille and Edward Meredith in Fort Worth, Texas on July 25, 1929. She was later adopted by her stepfather Charles Rader. Ann attended TCU and Business College in Fort Worth. Ann's career was in the insurance industry, but her focus was always on being a Mother. Ann loved to cook, crochet, attend baseball games and play contract Bridge, where she delighted in achieving master points. She was preceded in death by her son Robley. Ann is survived by her brother Dr. Thomas Rader and his wife Juni of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her son Coleman and wife Cookie of Columbus, Texas; son Scott and wife Margaret of San Antonio, Texas; a son - not by birth but by love, Jerry Knous and wife Debbie, of Midland, Texas. Grandchildren include Brian Nalls and wife Thelma of Roswell, New Mexico; Tracey Menges of Big Spring; Steven Nalls and wife Amy of Fort Collins, Colorado; Leisa Nalls of Las Vegas, Nevada; Tina Bell and husband Brian Dell of Columbus, Texas; Dr. Jeremy Knous of Saginaw, Michigan; D'Lynn Price and husband Cooper of San Angelo. NOLAND -- Kenneth L. Noland, age 68, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2009. He was born in Coffeyville, Kansas and served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1962. He was preceded in death by his mother Alfrie Noland; his father James Noland; one brother, Jimmie Noland; grandparents, Rachel Longacre and Frank Longacre; one daughter, Sharita Green; and one son, Greg Lewis, one son-in-law Raymond Thorton. PADILLA -- Gilbert F. Padilla, 67, was born on December 8, 1941 and raised in Albuquerque. He was called to heaven Saturday, February 28, 2009 surrounded by his loving family and friends at the Presbyterian Hospital. Gil is survived by his wife; Marjorie (Marge), children; Lucinda (Cindy), Holly, Deborah (Debbie), and Dominic, nine grandchildren; his brothers; Arthur, David and wife Shelley, sisters; Joanne, Clara and husband Neil, Barbara, and Antoinette (Toni) and husband Ron. He is preceded in death by his parents; Raymond and Irene and sister; Theresa. Gil served his country as a part of the Marine Corp Reserve. Early on, he volunteered his time as a juvenile probation officer for the city. For nearly 30 years of his life, Gil enjoyed running the family-owned concession stand, the Original Breakfast Burrito, during the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Working as a master machinist for most of his life, Gil served his apprenticeship at Sandia National Laboratories. He applied his machinist skills to various companies, including New Mexico Precision which he owned and operated for many years. Most recently, he held the title of Machine Shop Supervisor for the EMRTC at New Mexico Tech in Socorro, NM. Gil and Marge were also two of the original contributors and participants of the Marriage Enrichment Program. Loved by all who met or knew him, Gil's compassion held no exceptions and reached everyone who entered his life. His caring nature inspired all around him to better their lives. Gil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and son. He was his family and friends' teacher, inspiration, and source of strength. SHELTON -- Bill J. Shelton, 83, a resident of Albuquerque and most recently of Los Ranchos De Albuquerque died at his home Wednesday, February 25, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marian Shelton; daughter, Patricia Moxon (Trish), and husband, Bruce Moxon; grandsons, Blair Moxon and Drew Moxon; daughters Carla Decker and husband, Wayne Decker, daughter, Elizabeth Becker, and husband, John Becker; grandsons, Gregory Stewart, Robert Shouse, son, John Works and wife, Julie Works; grandsons, Preston Works, Tyler Works, son, Rob Works and wife, Stacy Works, and grandson, Calvin Works. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Love Shelton and Douglas Shelton; and his son, Douglas Lee Shelton. Bill was a charter member of the Four Hills Country Club and the Albuquerque Petroleum Club. He was an avid classic car enthusiast; he enjoyed boating, flying, and working on intricate projects with his hands. Bill strived for perfection in every project he faced, whether as a professional or hobbyist. He studied architecture with Lloyd Wright at the University of Southern California and received his Architectural Registration on November 11, 1963, from the State of New Mexico. Bill was a registered Architect in New Mexico, Texas and Colorado. He was known for his unique contemporary/Southwest design in both the residential and commercial sectors. His work throughout the Albuquerque area included multiple apartment complexes, office buildings and many custom homes. Bill started his own firm in Albuquerque and continued to operate that business until illness forced him to retire in 1993. Bill was a member of the First Congregational Church, 2801 Lomas Blvd. NE (Lomas and Girard). A Memorial Service will be held at the First Congregational, 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2009. WOOLCOTT -- Rose Marie Velasquez Woolcott, 56, native of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2009. She is survived by her husband of twelve years David Woolcott; step-sons, Eric, Chris and wife Jennifer and Daniel Woolcott; grandchildren, Carolyn and Phoenix Woolcott; mother and father-in-law Bruce and Donna Woolcott; and many close and dear friends. Rose was preceded in death by her parents Mateo and Juanita Velasquez. "She had a heart as big as the outdoors" is what those who knew and loved her would say. Rose worked for Black Mesa Coffee Co. and Bakery at the Albuquerque International Sunport where she lightened the load of many a weary traveler.
