BARBA -- Perla "Edie" Margarita Barba, age 57, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2009. She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Belen, Special Friends Sunday School and a Client of Adelante. Pearl was born and raised in Belen. She was the youngest child of 15 children born to Jose and Elvira Barba. Pearl attended Camino Rael Inc., TMH Program (Trainable Mentally Handicapped) in Belen where she learned many skills. Upon Adelante's celebration of 25 years, Pearl was recognized as an Adelante Founder in Belen for her great strides toward her personal goals. While working at Bargain Center, she was awarded employee of the year several times. After Pearl's parents passed away, her sisters, Naomi Sanchez and Domie Loughlin were her caregivers. Pearl's greatest joy was spending time with her family, nieces, nephews, attending church services, getting her hair done at the beauty shop and buying her coca-cola. Pearl lived a wonderful full life. She had a beautiful personality and was loved by all. She will be greatly missed. We are richer for having her in our lives. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Jose and Elvira Barba; and three brothers, Raymond, Mike and Elias. BARELA -- Cicilio Gabby Barela of Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully from the arms of his loving family and of His Lord on Friday, February 27, 2009. Gabby was born on January 21, 1951 in Albuquerque, NM to Remijio and Lucy Barela. He was survived by his mother Lucy Barela, his daughters Melissa Benavidez, Stephanie Quintana and husband Anthony, his granddaughter Mariah Lujan, his sons Christopher and Brian Barela, grandson Lakai Salizar. Gabby is also survived by his brother Remjio Barela Jr. and wife Arlene; sister Rita Candelaria and husband Leroy; sister Fela B. Castaneda; brother Emilio Barela and wife Karla; brother Ernest Barela and wife Veronica; 11 nephews and seven nieces. He was preceded in death by father Remijio Barela and sister Laura Barela. Gabby began his career with Creamland Dairy before serving the City of Albuquerque for over 20 years both in the Transit and Water Authority Departments. Gabby loved to sing, dance, and make music with his family and friends. His weekends and free time were always filled with activities such as hiking, fishing, bowling, and going to the movies with his granddaughter Mariah. CHAVIRA -- Felix G. Chavira, age 63, a resident of Los Chavez, NM, and formerly of Tome, NM, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2009 surrounded by his loving family when the Lord called him home. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Felix was a decorated Vietnam conflict veteran. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star, along with many other combat ribbons and metals. He was a loving husband and adoring father and grandfather. His family meant everything to him. He loved the outdoors and always enjoyed when all of his family were together. He was preceded in death by his mother, Reina (Marquez) Chavira; father, Ramon Chavira; nephew, Carlos Chavira; and grandparents, Francisco and Rosela (Perea) Marquez. Felix is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Kathy (Otero) Chavira; two daughters, Jennifer and Stephanie Chavira; granddaughter, McKenna Chavira-Sarrett; and brother, Manuel Chavira and wife, Francis and their family. He is also survived by several loving aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. CONRAD -- Walter E. Conrad, age 75, died unexpectedly in his sleep, February 28, 2009 at his home in Albuquerque. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Mr. Conrad spent most of his life in the Southwest and settled in Albuquerque in 1996. He was a graduate of the University of Utah and worked as a mining engineer for Kerr-McGee in Grants, Conoco in Denver, CO, United Nuclear Corp. in Church Rock near Gallup, Paraho Mining Co. in Colorado and mined coal near Glenwood Springs, CO. An avid outdoorsman, he hunted elk, deer, bobcat, quail, turkey and antelope. He was an Army veteran, and served in the Korean War. Prior to his death, he was building a Geodesic Dome home near the Rio Grande. Mr. Conrad is survived by his four daughters; Mary Katherine Conrad and husband Rick Nobles of Pleasanton, CA, Susan Conrad and husband Joe Musick of Acworth, GA. Karen Laun and husband John, and Jeanne Ronquillo and husband Mark, both of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren; brothers, Alton and Jack Conrad; and nieces and nephews. CONTY -- Lillian Conty, 94, resident of Albuquerque since 1937, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her daughters, Rosemary Cox and Virginia Conway and husband, Bob all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Christine Conway of Albuquerque and Vincent Conway of De Kalb, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Jimmy Conty. She was the sixth of eight children, all predeceased, born to immigrant parents of San Stefano, Sicily, Italy. Lillian was a true caregiver and nurtured many family and friends throughout her life. She loved people, and her family was the center of her world. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. CORCORAN -- Kathryn (Katie) Louise Corcoran, age 44, passed away suddenly from a systemic infection on Saturday February 28, 2009. She is survived by her best friend and love of her life of 27 years, Randy L. Corcoran and her sons Ryan (11) and John (9). She leaves behind her parents Les and Joyce Croughan; sisters Alison (Bruce) Davies, Heather (Reggie) Russell; brothers Andy (Wendy) Croughan and Scott (Deb) Croughan; father-in -law Tom Corcoran, and the late Nancy Corcoran; sisters-in-law Kelly (Stephen) Patterson, Darcy (Mark) Savage and brother-in-law Chris Corcora; and many nieces and nephews. Katie was a 1982 graduate of Highland High School and graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Mary's University in San, Antonio, Texas, 1986. She married in 1988. She spent her career as Vice President of Downey & Company Insurance and Bonds working with her dear friend and mentor Roger Downey. Though she excelled and valued her career, her zest for life and devotion to family and friends were unsurpassed. Katie enjoyed every moment with her boys, "Rhino" aka "her Babycakes" and her little "Burrito Boy" aka "Boogerboy" and "Juanitoad". She was so proud of her boys and her most precious time was the afternoon shuttle rides with them where she was able to experience their day. Katie was a tireless supporter of numerous causes and touched many lives. Anyone fortunate to have received the "Katie hug" will know that they have been touched by an angel. Her family will never be able to replace their "delicate flower" or "hot chick" as she so self-proclaimed. EAVES -- Billy B. Eaves, 79, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, March 1, 2009. He is survived by his sons, Kenny Eaves and wife, Casey, Chauncey Eaves and wife, Susan; granddaughters, Dawn Craig and husband, Stephen, Jennifer Ryan and husband, Nathanel; grandsons, Liam Eaves, Chance Young; great-grandchildren Elizabeth Marie Craig, Madison Nicole Craig and Elliott James Ryan. Mr. Eaves is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn R. Eaves. Billy worked for many years as a Parts Manager for Ford Dealerships. After his retirement, he was very active with Bear Canyon Senior Center. Mr. Eaves was a Mason and a Shriner. He loved to play golf and he also enjoyed big band music. GARCIA -- Samuel Lucero Garcia, 86 years old, went to be with our Lord on Friday, February 27, 2009. Sam was born on June 6, 1922 to Francisco and Delfinia Garcia in Tijeras, NM. He had five beloved brothers: Modesto, Antonio, Patricio, Fernando, Emedio; and one sister, Costancia, and several nieces and nephews. Sam enlisted in the United States Army in the 710th Tank Battalion in 1942 at the age of 20. Throughout his life, Sam was an accomplished musician playing several instruments in many different bands, including Los Coronados, The Desperados, The Emeralds, and Los Crystales. Sam was blessed with seven children: Mary Lou (Joe), Geneva (Mike), David (Denise), Kathy (Arthur), Emilio (Josie), Samra (Jeff), and Charlene (David). He had 29 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great- grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion, Marcella Cisneros. Sam was a devoted Catholic with Holy Family Parish. Sam was blessed with many relatives and friends. Our family would especially like to thank all the staff at Princeton Place who were so wonderful and caring to our Dad. We will truly miss our Dad's humor, wisdom and song. We love you, Dad. Be at peace with God and watch over all of us. MCCAIN -- Jay Peter McCain, 73, passed away on February 14, 2009. Jay Peter McCain graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute in 1954, later earning a degree from UCLA in psychology and philosophy. He worked for the Dept. of Women and Children in Santa Fe for many years, then moved to Albuquerque, and was employed by the UNM Children's Psychiatric Hospital until retiring. He was a film buff, keeping up with all the latest releases and collecting many DVDs. He appreciated good food, beautiful music, family and friends. He is survived by his sister, Bernice Fiske; nephew, Lionel Fiske; a great-niece and great-nephew Jennifer and David Fiske. RICHARDS -- Marian Fay Cardon Richards, age 92, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, died on Sunday, March 1, 2009, of natural causes due to old age at the Beehive house in Albuquerque. She is survived by two sons, Michael Richards and wife, Margaret Tiffin of Germany, and Bart Richards and wife, Shannon of Sinking Springs, PA; and her twin daughters, Jean Burnham and husband, Kim of Stillwater, OK, and Joan Langholf and husband Dever of Albuquerque; and her two sisters, Phyllis Thomas and husband Bill of Carson City, NV and Jean Stewart of Ogden, UT. She was the grandmother to 14 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Fay was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Lee R. Richards; a son, Bruce; a daughter, Marian Albright; and a brother, Walter Earl Cardon. She was born in Ogden, Utah on July 9, 1916 and was the first of three daughters of Walter Arnold and Mabel Anne Moore Cardon. Her love and talent was music; playing piano and organ for family and church since her teen years. ROMERO -- Lorenza Romero For the happy times we shared through the years, for the love, the laughter and the tears. For the special things only you did, For all these things we will miss. Time and space may separate us, but our love knows no end. I'm proud to have called you my sister, but happier when I called you my friend. Our sister, Lorenza Romero, went to be with the Lord on February 22, 2009. She was born on August 5, 1953. She is the daughter of the late Juanita and Felipe Tafoya. SIMMS -- Jesse Holmes Simms, 81, died March 1, 2009 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque after a brief illness, surrounded by family and friends. He was born on July 29, 1927 in Chicago, IL to Lacy and Marcia Holmes Simms, their third and youngest child. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother Robert Lacy Simms. Jesse is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marian; sister Ruth Simms Miksovic and brother-in-law John Miksovic; daughter Ruth Ellen Simms and former son-in-law Davis Lee, and son David Louis Simms; three grandchildren, David Louis Simms, Jr., Megan Elizabeth Simms Waldron and husband Jimmy, and Katy Lynn Simms Lee; great-granddaughters Alyssa Jewell Gearlds and Chloe Elizabeth Waldron; and many nieces and nephews. Jesse graduated from Park College and attended Westminster Choir College, and served four years in the United States Air Force. He was a life-long church musician. He worked for the United States Army, retiring as a systems analyst in 1992. He was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Presbyterian Church, in Jesse's honor. TALLOUZI -- Daniel Eugene Tallouzi, S. Sgt., age 24, beloved and devoted son, brother, nephew, and friend was born May 12, 1984. Daniel passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2009 in Albuquerque as a result of injuries received during a Mortar Attack while a member of the 4-4 Aviation Battalion of the 4th Infantry Division. He was born in Bryan, TX and raised in the Albuquerque North Valley. Daniel attended North Valley Schools and graduated in May 2002 from Valley High School where he was a member of the Valley High School Football Team as a Lineman. Daniel enlisted into the Army upon graduation. He was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division where he completed Army Basic and AIT. He deployed to Iraq in October 2005 and on September 25, 2006 was seriously wounded in a Mortar Attack. Daniel's ordeal after being wounded was outlined in a book titled "Pediatrician Soldier". Daniel is survived by his loving and devoted mother, Mary Tallouzi; his sister, Jennifer Quinteros of Rio Rancho; his brother Christopher Quinteros and wife Cornelia of Harker Heights, TX; uncles Mariano Aguirre and wife Christella (Chris) of Rio Rancho, Francisco Aguirre and wife Linda of Alamogordo, NM, Martin Aguirre and wife Demaris of Lubbock, TX, Domingo Aguirre and wife Cathy of San Antonio, TX; aunts, Sister Pauline Aguirre, Superior General Franciscan Sisters of Mercy, Palma De Mallorca Spain, Natalie Ohnesorge and husband Danny of Enid, OK. Also surviving are other numerous relatives in Texas and California; and a host of friends. Daniel will be greatly missed by all whose hearts he touched. He will always be remembered as a quiet, tall, dark, and handsome young man, with a big heart, who honored us all by serving OUR country. Visitations will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services-Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel Ave., NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Military Honors will be accorded by the Army National Guard. TURK -- Thad H. Turk, 74, resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Annette Gutierrez Turk; children, Dana L. Turk and wife, Heidi (deceased March 2, 2009) of Mt. Vernon, IA, James B. Turk and wife, Lisa of Albuquerque, Michael Turk and wife, April of Falls Church, VA, and Heather Foster of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Heather Clark, Shadron Smith, Lauren Turk, Elexia Turk, Danetta Ramey, Janek and Kayleigh Turk, Riley and Madison Turk, and Ryan Kendricks; brother, James E. Turk and wife, Marlene of Powell, WY; aunt, Mary Margaret Dudley and husband, Bob of St. Helena, OR; good friend, Betty Jean Turk of Rio Rancho. He was preceded in death by his parents, Berlyn H. and Doris Dawson Turk; sister, Lois. Thad was born March 15, 1934 in Sheridan, WY. He received the Masonic 50 year Golden Veterans Award in 2005 from the Sheridan, WY Lodge. His greatest pride was being "Grandpa." He felt his greatest professional achievement was helping to bring wealth to the heirs of the Atrisco Land Grant through its sale in 2006. ZACHARY -- Charles "Chuck" E. Zachary, 47, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2009. He was preceded in death by his son Charles.
