Chacon -- MATTHEW L. CHACON 07/06/1952 - 02/28/2002Matthew L. Chacon, 49, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2002. He was a member of Holy Royal Martyrs Orthodox Church of Albuquerque. He was also a long-standing member of the N.M. Bar Association. Matthew was a practicing attorney for 23 years in and around the Albuquerque area. Matthew was a true humanitarian. He had a deep passion for the impoverished Mexican people and the Tarahumar Indians from the state of Chihuahua. He led doctors on many excursions into the poorest parts of Mexico and persuaded them to donate their time and medical expertise to help the poverty-stricken people. Matthew is survived by his beloved wife of eleven years, Aurora of the family home in Albuquerque; one loving son, Israel; his grandmother, Bernardita Chacon of Espanola, NM; his mother, Tessie Chacon of Espanola; three brothers, Mike, Donald, and Ron; and one sister, Bernadette Chacon. A viewing was held on Saturday, 1:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Albuquerque with a Funeral Service at 1:30 p.m. Romero Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Brooks -- Douglas H. Brooks, age 49, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, February 26, 2002 in Albuquerque, NM. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald W. Brooks; and his brother, Kelly Brooks. His is survived by his mother, Florence Brooks; step-mother, Grace Brooks; sister, Linda Williams; brother, Reilly Brooks; sister, Marjorie Molina and husband, Eloy; three nieces; one nephew; and three great-nephews. Laneville -- Bertha Mary Jackson Laneville, 93, passed away on February 25, 2002 in Farmington. She was born on March 25, 1908 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to George and Susan Jackson. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Alfred Laneville. Bertha is survived by three daughters, Salle Sherrod of Tempe, Arizona, Dixie Lucas and husband, Donald L. of Bloomfield, Susan Keylor of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Services will be held on Friday, March 1, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Gage of Heaven Cemeery, 7500 Paseo del Norte NE, Albuquerque. Father Norman of St. Charles Catholic Church will be officiating. Wiggins -- Longtime Wagon Mound rancher Elmer Wiggins passed away at the age of 80 on February 22, 2002. Elmer was born January 31, 1922 to Ike and Maggie Wiggins in Hotchkiss, CO On June 17, 1949, Elmer married Zelda Gartin in Las Vegas, NM, who survives him. They had eight children, seven of whom survive him, Bonny and Julian Lopez of Cimarron, Darline Baca of Raton, Judy and Jimmy Leyerly of Grand Junction, CO, Roberta and Gene Vigil of Ocate, Joy and Mark Shurbert of Las Vegas, Gene and Angie Wiggins of Wagon Mound and Sandra and Jerry LeDoux of Las Vegas. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews survive him. His son, Isaac; his parents, Ike and Maggie; and brothers, Marion and Donald preceded Elmer in death. Memorial Services will be Saturday, March 2, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Wagon Mound old high school gym. Cremation has taken place. Burial will take place at a later date at the Wiggins Family Cemetery. Jacobs -- In loving memory of Charles L. (Jake) Jacobs. Jake passed away Thursday Feb. 21, 2002 at his Albuquerque home after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Della; children Kerry and Janiece; stepchildren Myron, Bernice, Donald, and Johanna; grandchildren Dana, Dino, Jeanette, Tamie, and Shawn; step grandchildren Hillary, Russell, David, Mark, Janni, Jill, Ivan, Jerry, Jimmy, Justin, Sally, Darcy, another David; many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. Jake was born Aug 1, 1918 in Anna, Illinois. In 1940 he began a 20 year career in the Army and Air Force, travelling extensively throughout Panama, Mexico, and the western United States - particularly New Mexico. After WWII Jake and his family took up residence in New Mexico. During the next 50 years he explored the land, fished the rivers, and developed a deep love of New Mexico and its people. In later years he enjoyed sharing his experiences and vast knowledge of this land with his grandchildren. Jake's family wishes to express a deep gratitude to those people who helped him maintain his comfort and dignity during the final months of his life. Garcia -- Mary J. Garcia, 87, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, February 19, 2002. She is survived by her sons, Anthony P. Garcia of Albuquerque, Donald L. Garcia and wife, Loretta of Santa Fe and Ronald L. Garcia of Colorado Springs; granddaughters, Stacy Garcia of Albuquerque and Yvette Garcia of Santa Fe; grandsons, Michael Hernandez, Anthony D. Garcia and Patrick Garcia and finance, Julie Gonzales; daughter-in-law, Isabel Garcia, all of Albuquerque; and grandson, Charles Garcia of Santa Fe. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos G. Garcia. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be held Friday, 9:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 412 Stover SW, with Father James Moore, Celebrant. Fate -- Donald R. Fate, a retired oil industry executive and long time resident of New Mexico, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2002, at the age of 76. Born March 13, 1925 and raised in Bellaire, Michigan, he graduated with a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1944. He served his country as an Ensign in the United States Navy in the final days of World War II. On September 9, 1947 he arrived in Saudi Arabia to begin what would be an illustrious 40 year career with the Arabian American Oil Company, Aramco, the largest oil production company in the world. Working his way through a progression of key jobs in the company's oil operations, Mr. Fate became a Vice President of Aramco in 1968, Senior Vice President of oil operations in 1979 as well as President and CEO of Tapline, an Aramco subsidiary, and the largest trans-national pipeline company in the Middle East. Not long after his arrival in Arabia, Don met Marge Williams, a young secretary from Loving, New Mexico. Their wedding in Geneva, Switzerland, on April 19, 1950 was the beginning of 52 years of marriage and a family of three daughters and seven grandchildren. An avid baseball and basketball player in his early years and an expert tennis player and golfer later on, Don generously volunteered as a referee for countless hundreds of basketball and baseball games during his life in Arabia. Additionally he was an accomplished Duplicate Bridge player and active organizer of tournaments in both Arabia and Bellaire, Michigan. In May of 1986, he retired to live in Albuquerque, spending his summers in his childhood hometown of Bellaire in the upper Michigan peninsula. Mr. Fate is survived by his wife, Marge; three daughters, Sydney Fate Barger and husband, Timothy, of Vista, CA, Stephanie Fate-Dixon and husband, Frank of Olivenhain, CA and Victoria Fate Gorrell and husband, Gregory, of Kennett Square, PA; and his sister, Karin Bargar and husband, Jim, of Bellaire, MI and their three children. Although he will be deeply missed, he will always be remembered by all that knew and loved him as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather and an honest man with a gentle heart. Services will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE at 2:00 p.m. Private disposition will take place in Bellaire, MI at a later date.
