Akgulian -- Ruth (Goureghian) Akgulian of Albuquerque (formerly of Clinton, Mass, died Saturday, February 16, 2002, in Cambridge, Mass. after an illness. She leaves her husband, Avak "Al" Akgulian; two sisters, Florence Esther Goureghian of Clinton, and Sylvia Kaloustian of Newton, Mass; a grandson; nephews and nieces. A son, Zachary Caskey, preceded her in death. She was born in Clinton, daughter of Zakar and Mary (Stephanian) Goureghian and lived many years in Albuquerque. She graduated from Clinton High School and from Hahnernann Hospital School of Nursing and Assumption College, both in Worchester, Mass. Mrs. Akgulian was a surgical nurse at Veteran's Administration hospitals in Boston and Albuquerque. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi National Sorority and was chairman of the Parish C Council of the Armenian Church of Albuquerque. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, in Philbin-Corneau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, Mass. Bailey -- Carl Bailey, 53, a resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, February 21, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Debbie Bailey; son, Jonathan Bailey, both of Albuquerque; father, Mel Bailey of Springdale, AR; sister, Donna Kowalski and husband, Roger of California; brothers, Don Bailey of Oklahoma and Steve Bailey of Texas; and numerous other family and friends. Baldwin -- Lt. Col. Irl E. Baldwin, USAF(Ret.), 81, a resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, February 19, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Albuquerque, to whom he was married in 1944; son, Lt. Col. Lance Baldwin, USAR(Ret.) and wife, Ruth of Placitas; daughters, Linda Hays and husband, Cliff and Shannon Baldwin, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Kelly Jorgenson and husband, Craig of Albuquerque, Tony Hays of Tulsa, OK, Jarred Baldwin of Rio Rancho and Jesse Baldwin of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Rita Brunacini; his ¯adopted¯ son, Capt. Beauvais -- Diane Fruik Beauvais, 46, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on February 22, 2002. Diane was born October 13, 1955, in Woodstock, Illinois. Berry -- Clara Lee Berry, 81, a resident of Albuquerque for 20 years, died peacefully Friday, February 22, 2002. She is survived by her son, Cliff Berry; daughters, Myra Padgett and Linda Curtis; grandchildren, Jeff Curtis, Jana Henton, Janel Klews and Yvonne Arrossa; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Bill Hatchel. Clara was born July 8, 1920 in DeKalb, TX. She graduated from Texarkana Business College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Clara spent many years serving as a volunteer at the Indian Cultural Center and was an active member of Hoffmantown Church for many years. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis M. Berry. Her sweet nature and loving spirit will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her. Services will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

Coe -- Robert L. Coe passed away on Monday, February 18, 2002 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Bob was born on October 3, 1927 in Pontiac, Michigan to Ina Clara and Lawrence Coe. Bob was a very talented man and despite being born with spina bifida he accomplished many things, he married, raised a family and was an amazing musician, artist and architect. He designed many beautiful homes in Albuquerque. In retirement he moved to Cottonwood, Arizona where he enjoyed the small town and took up computers as another hobby. Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Shelton. Robert is survived by two sons, David and wife, Denise and step-grandson, Bruce of Cottonwood, AZ and Steve and wife, Lisa and granddaughter, Samantha of Albuquerque. Former wife, Betty Haworth; brother-in-law, Homer Shelton of Sun City, AZ and nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a ceremony will be held at a later date.

Coleman -- Velma L. Coleman, 87, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, February 22, 2002. She is survived by her brother, Drew Coleman of Wyoming and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Katie Coleman; sisters, Elvyn Butler, Erma Brady and brother, Ernest Coleman. Velma was born and raised in Albuquerque. She graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1934. From 1941 to 1970, she lived in Washington, DC where she worked for the US Air Force in the Pentagon as a computer programmer and systems analyst. She attended George Washington University and the University of Maryland. Velma returned to Albuquerque in 1971 after retirement. She was a remarkable woman who was a paraplegic all of her life and yet accomplished so much. She loved learning about everything and her mind was as sharp as a tack right up to the very last. She touched many lives with her courage and determination. Memorial graveside services will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2002, 2:30 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Coulthurst -- Jean Bender Coulthurst, 96, a resident of Rio Rancho and Albuquerque, NM since 1969, died Monday, February 11, 2002 at Manzano del Sol. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence J. Coulthurst, age 100, to whom she was married for 72 years; sons, Lawrence J. Coulthurst, Jr. of Long Valley, NJ, John Coulthurst of Berkeley, CA, James J. Coulthurst of Boise, ID; daughter, Jean Alice Coulthurst of Portland, OR; niece, Carolyn J. Epling of Albuquerque, NM; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A graduate of Plainfield, NJ High School and the Damrosch School of Music, she was an accomplished professional classical violinist. She was a performing member of the Plainfield Musical Club from the age of 16 and later served as president of that organization. She was also a member of the Daughters of the British Empire. She was active during World War II entertaining the patients at Lyons Veterans Hospital with weekly violin performances. She also cared for Jewish twin German sisters until the end of the war when they could be reunited with surviving members of their family. D'a -- Margaret D'A was welcomed into the arms of the Lord our Savior on Saturday, February 23, 2002, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on October 13, 1941 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was preceeded in death by her brother Bobby Lee Baca and mother Beatrice Baca. She is survived by her father, Del Baca; son, Mark Allen Padilla; many family members, and a grandson Mark Allen Padilla Jr., who lovingly called her his"Own Grandma." She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, strong spirit, courageous attitude and love of life. Margaret was a special and giving person who committed her professional life to helping people. She has been honored with several awards from local and state agencies as well as being recognized by United States President Bill Clinton for outstanding achievements. Margaret will be missed as much as she was loved. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at the Church of the Risen Savior, with Rosary at 9:00 a.m., Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Dixon -- Jeanne Dixon, former resident of Albuquerque and Bosque Farms, NM passed away February 19, 2002 at her home in Glendale, AZ, where she has resided since moving there in 1993. She is survived by her husband, R.O. (Bud) Dixon; her son, Pete Dixon, also of Glendale; a granddaughter, Tami Chavez; and four great-grandchildren of Albuquerque; a sister, Joyce Benson of Rio Rancho, NM; numerous nephews; and one niece. Dorcas -- Howard F. Dorcas, 66, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, died, Friday, February 22, 2002. A golden heart has stopped beating and hard working hands have been put to rest. He retired from Lee Galles Lexus as a service advisor. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Janet M. Foster -- John Jeffrey "Jeff" Foster, 22, a longtime resident of Albuquerque and Edgewood, died suddenly, Monday, February 18, 2002 in a motor vehicle accident in Hampton, VA. He is survived by his mother, Kathleen Weinbrecht and husband, Ed of Edgewood, NM, father, John David Foster and wife, Karen of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Chelsey Weinbrecht of Edgewood, NM, Megan Foster and Katilyn Foster, both of San Antonio, TX ; brother, Justin Foster of San Antonio, TX; grandparents, Bill and Teresa Edwards and John and Nancy Weinbrecht, all of Albuquerque; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, and colleagues. Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents, Betty and Richard Nelson of Henry, SD. Born August 14, 1979 in Ft. Worth, TX, Jeff grew up in Albuquerque and Edgewood. He graduated from Moriarity High School in 1997, and just completed his third year of proud service in the United States Air Force, where he was recently promoted to Senior Airman. He was stationed at Langley Air Force Base, Hampton, VA. Jeff was a beloved son, brother, and grandson, who loved living life day-to-day. He enjoyed soccer, skateboarding, music, and just being with family and friends. Most always seen with a smile on his face, he had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. His early passing from this life leaves a lasting void in the lives of all who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 24, 2002, 3:00 p.m., at Church of the Holy Cross, Episcopal; I-40 east of Albuquerque to Exit #187, then 3.3 miles north on State Highway 344, with Father Charles Boldine officiating. Gonzales -- Louis J. Gonzales--died February 22, 2002. He is preceded in death by his sister, Cordelia Tafoya. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Julia Gonzales. He is also survived by his nine children; David Gonzales and Sue, Indio, CA, Richard Gonzales, Barbara Chavez, Paul Gonzales and Joyce, Phillip Gonzales and Julia, and Mary Reider, all of Albuquerque, NM, Helen Johnson and Mark, Rio Rancho, NM, Chris Gonzales and Kim, Las Vegas, NV, and Gary Gonzales and Gretchen, Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by one sister; Celia Garza and Al, Houston, TX, and two brothers; Lancho Gonzales and Agnes, Springer, NM, and Frank Gonzales and Irene, Albuquerque, NM, twenty-two grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Gonzales was a veteran of the US Army during World War II, 8th Army Ordinance Inspection Team TA Bismark, Archipelago, New Guinea, and South Phillipine Liberation. He received the Luzon Asiatic Pacific Theator Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and a long time and active member of Our Lady of Annunciation. He was nominated for the National Jefferson Award for service to Albuquerque and the homeless. A rosary will be held on Monday, February 25th, 2002 at 7:00 PM at the Chapel of Sandia, Sandia Funeral Care, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque with visitation to also be held on Monday from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM. Henry -- Albert R. Henry, Jr., 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1982, died Sunday, February 17, 2002. He is survived by his sons, Robert Henry and wife, Wendy Angell, of Tijeras, NM and Randall A. Henry and wife, Gail, of Boulder, CO; grandchildren Robin Maez and husband, Anthony, of Albuquerque, NM, Capt. Matthew E. Henry and wife, Lidia, of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Brooke Harris and husband, Kim, of Denver, CO, and Alaina Henry of Truckee, NV; great-grandchildren, Jacob Maez, Brooke Maez, and Brandon Maez all of Albuquerque; and sister Donna White and husband, Ray, of Lincoln, NE. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loraine F. Henry on January 4, 2001. Mr. Henry was born in Ellsworth, KS and graduated from Kansas State University in 1940. He entered the Army Air Corp. after graduation and rose to the rank of Major, serving on the staff of General Hap Arnold, the founding father of the United States Air Force. Mr. Henry was the principal developer of the backhoe and served as President of the Farm Equipment Industry Association. He also served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Manufacturers. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at his request. Jacobs -- In loving memory of Charles L. (Jake) Jacobs. Jake passed away Thursday Feb. 21, 2002 at his Albuquerque home after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Della; children Kerry and Janiece; stepchildren Myron, Bernice, Donald, and Johanna; grandchildren Dana, Dino, Jeanette, Tamie, and Shawn; step grandchildren Hillary, Russell, David, Mark, Janni, Jill, Ivan, Jerry, Jimmy, Justin, Sally, Darcy, another David; many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. Jake was born Aug 1, 1918 in Anna, Illinois. In 1940 he began a 20 year career in the Army and Air Force, travelling extensively throughout Panama, Mexico, and the western United States - particularly New Mexico. After WWII Jake and his family took up residence in New Mexico. During the next 50 years he explored the land, fished the rivers, and developed a deep love of New Mexico and its people. In later years he enjoyed sharing his experiences and vast knowledge of this land with his grandchildren. Johnson -- Hensley Starling Johnson, MD, age 90, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on February 16,2002. He was born on January 4,1912, in Lake Village Arkansas at Lakeport Plantation, which is one of the few plantation homes of this type surviving in Arkansas. It is now owned by Arkansas Historical Society. As a child he accompanied his father, Victor M. Johnson, a country doctor, on house calls in the Mississippi delta region. This began his life-long interest in medicine. He received degrees in pharmacology and medicine from the University of Tennessee at Memphis. After completing his internship he married Anne Hopper R.N., a fellow graduate of the U. of Tennessee. He was called to active duty in the US Army in 1940. During WWII, he served two years overseas with the Army Air Force as a flight surgeon in a B-17 Bomb Wing in North Africa and Italy. After the war he remained in the army and completed a residency in internal medicine at Letterman Army Hospital, in San Francisco, CA. He had additional overseas assignments in Japan, Austria, and Germany. His last assignment was as commander of the U S Army Hospital, at Huntsville, AL. Upon retiring from the army he completed a one-year residency in dermatology at Harvard Medical School. He and his family then moved to Albuquerque where he joined his brother, the late Miles P. Johnson, in a general practice. He practiced in the Five Points area for over thirty years, beginning with a full-time practice and later a limited practice. He was on staff at St Joseph's and Presbyterian hospitals downtown. He was known to his friends, associates, and patients as a courteous southern gentleman. He served on the Governor's first Crime Victims Compensation Commission. Hensley was a life-long student and always encouraged his young friends to study hard and complete their education. In his retirement years he enjoyed reading books on bio-chemistry, playing the stock market, working in his small garden, particularly tending to his fig trees. He also enjoyed hiking, taking long walks, and feeding the ducks and geese at Tingley beach. He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Anne Johnson; daughter Carole J . Ernst and husband, Larry of Albuquerque; and several nephews and nieces. His son, Steve preceded him in death. Cremation has taken place. There will be private services at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. The family thanks Sandia Hospice for all their wonderful care and assistance. Loddy-McCarty -- Charlotte Loddy-McCarty, 84 and long time resident of Albuquerque was preceded in death by her four children; Robert Baca, Lucille Blea, Cliff Anaya and Dale Anaya. Miller -- Jane D. Miller passed away on February 13, 2002 at her home in Rio Rancho, NM. She was 84 years of age. Married to John E. Miller for 54 years, she spent the last 14 years of her life in New Mexico. After her graduation from Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan, she taught art in Bay City, Michigan for forty years and was an Administrator of the city's public school art program. She was one of the founders of Studio 23-Community Arts Center in Bay City. Besides her work in the schools and the community, she also created beautiful stitcheries, drawings and paintings. She was a member of the Tri Sigma Society, American Association of University Women, and life long member of Studio 23. Jane is survived by her husband, John E. Miller; her daughter, Kathryn Jane Miller and son-in-law, Michael L. DeLongchamp of Placitas, NM. A Memorial Service and celebration of Jane's life will take place at the Las Placitas Presbyterian Church in Placitas, NM on March 25 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the church center for family and friends. Smith -- Lillian Beatrice Smith, 85, a resident of Albuquerque, Passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2002. Beatrice was born November 2, 1916 in Hubbard, Texas. She grew up in Brownwood, TX where she mat Vernon smith, whom she married on December 13, 1931. Vernon was a welder and together they moved to Los Angeles, where he worked at the Navy Shipyards during World War II. In 1971, when Vernon retired, they moved to Tucson, AZ. They moved back to Los Angeles for a brief time before coming to Albuquerque in 1981. Beatrice was a loving mother who enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons; Travis Smith in 1999, and Benny Smith in 2000. Beatrice is survived by her husband, Vernon,of Albuquerque; four children, Leslie Smith of Conway, AR, Lanell Smith of Albuquerque, Dale Smith of Cuauthemoc, Mexico, and Brenda Buck of Lexington, KY; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held in the Rose Garden at Vista Verde memorial Park. Ed Stockly was born in New York, NY Nov. 12, 1925. After serving two years in the U.S. Army during World War II, he graduated with honors from Princeton University and studied law at the University of Texas Law School. He moved to Los Alamos, NM in 1955 and practiced law there until 1979. In July of 1979 Ed married Jane Foraker-Thompson. They lived in Santa Fe, NM; Boise, ID.; Berkeley, CA; Maseru, Lesotho; Grahamstown, South Africa; Austin, TX; Lovelock, NV, and Lake Topaz, NV. During his forty-year legal career he served as a private practice attorney; represented a number of government agencies; was elected Los Alamos County Magistrate and Boise County Prosecutor. He was involved in a number of nonprofit organizations including the Los Alamos County Family Council and the Idaho Natural Resources Legal Foundation. There will be a memorial service at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Reno, NV on Friday, February 22, 2002 at 6:00 p.m. Donations can be made to St. Mary's Hospice, Carson City, NV.

Torrez -- Perfecto Torrez, age 88, of Topeka, KS, died Saturday, February 23, 2002 at his home. Mr. Torrez began his working years in 1929 for the Santa Fe Railroad later working for the Union Pacific Railroad, Morrell's Meat Packing Co., Cudahays in Los Angeles, CA, Hill Packing Co., and Westside Plumbing. In 1949 he established Perfect's Plumbing which he owned until 1974. In 1974, he became the Assistant City of Topeka Plumbing Inspector and in 1976, was named the Chief plumbing Inspector for the City of Topeka. He became the owner of AAA Enterprises in 1981. He was born April 18, 1913 in El Tepetate, Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico, the son of Mariano and Refugia Valdivia Torrez. Mr. Torrez came to the United States in 1917 and became a naturalized citizen on December 15, 1943. Mr. Torrez was a charter member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #534, James W. Gibbons Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, American GI Forum and Highland park Optimist Club. He was married to Loretta Santoyo Lopez on November 26, 1936 in Topeka. She died October 14, 1996. A son, Richard Torrez died in August of 1947 and a daughter, Rosallie Torrez Garcia died October 2, 1999. Survivors include; two daughters, Gloria Torrez Corona of the home, Linda Tinoco of Albuquerque, NM; two brothers, Louis Torrez of Topeka, Cirilo Torrez of Topeka; two sisters, Manuela"Nellie" Lopez of Topeka, Antonia Zuniga of Topeka; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Torrez will lie in state Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church where a Knights of Columbus Council #534 rosary and James W. Gibbons Assembly of the Fourth Degree Chalice Ceremony will be at 6:00 p.m. and a parish prayer service will be at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church or Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in care of the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.

Turton -- Lois Turton, 79, of 10500 Academy Rd. NE, died Tuesday, February 19, 2002. Born on November 9, 1922 in Iowa, Lois attended high school and graduated from Moline School of Nursing. She worked at Los Angeles General Hospital as a surgical nurse until moving to Ely, NV, where she met her husband, Robert Turton, who predeceased her. She worked in nursing until retiring in 1987. She moved to Albuquerque in 1999. After retirement, Lois traveled extensively. Theatre and symphony were an important part of her life at home and abroad. She enjoyed gardening and flower arranging for her bridge parties. Survivors include a brother, Lou Eversmeyer of Seal Beach, CA; a sister, Darlene Anderson; and nephew, Clint of Elephant Butte; nephews, Brian Anderson of Albuquerque and Art Anderson of Odessa, TX; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews throughout the United States. Memorial services are planned at Montebello, 10500 Academy Rd. Wade -- George E. Wade, Jr., 80, a resident of Albuquerque and native New Mexican, died February 17, 2002. He was born on August 2, 1921 to New Mexico homesteaders and ranchers, Mable Alice Lawing Wade and George Elmer Wade in Hagerman, NM. His early life in ranching and farming paved the way for his love of hunting and the outdoors. He was graduated from New Mexico Military Institute and fought in WWII, receiving commendation metals and the Purple Heart. He continued farming and ranching throughout his life and also owned and operated Wade Equipment, Inc., an International Harvester dealership in Carlsbad, NM for 15 years. After the sale of his business, he worked at various sales positions where he could interact with the ranching and farming community. He had a life-long love of flying and worked as the general manager of International Air Motive and later as an executive corporate pilot in El Paso, TX. His retirement years were filled with skeet shooting, hunting, dancing, playing the stock market, mastering the computer and most importantly, enjoying his family and many grandchildren. He was a consummate supporter of his grandchildren's academic lives and sports endeavors. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Heinrich Wade; daughter, Susanna Busico of Austin, TX; daughter, Brenda Moore and husband, Robert of Albuquerque; daughter, Karen Childress and husband, David Dealy of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Dr. Kristina Busico Metzger and husband, Brian of Atlanta, GA, Jennifer Busico Fleming and husband, Steve of Santa Barbara, CA, Robin M. Moore, Mary Margaret Moore, and Russell W. Moore of Albuquerque, Katherine Childress and Kirk Childress; great-granddaughter, Skyelar Monet Stroud of Dallas, TX. Other survivors include sisters, Ruth O¯Neal of Albuquerque and Grace Coleman of Roswell, NM; many nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend, Calvin Graham of El Paso, TX. A private memorial service was held Friday, February 22nd, at the home of his daughter in Albuquerque. Interment of cremains will take place at a later date at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Zehr -- Sarah Edith Heatwole Zehr, (Sally), entered the Church Triumphant on February 22, 2002, after a long fight with health problems. She was born December 11, 1914 in La Junta, CO, the 6th of seven children of Jacob Aaron Heatwole and Bertha Olive Showalter, who came to La Junta for health reasons from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia in 1908. A Mennonite family, Jacob was a Mennonite Minister and Sally attended elementary and high school in Swink, CO. She married Walter Zehr on January 14, 1942 and moved to Albuquerque where they lived since that date. She was a staunch, active and beloved member of the First Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque since that date. She was preceded in death by her husband and siblings. She is survived by Christine Nielsen of La Junta, CO; Franklin Heatwole of Rocky Ford, CO; Dean Zehr of Washington, IL; Esther Heatwole of La Junta, CO; Rachel Zehr of Normel, IL; Earl Sweigart of Balko, OK; John Zehr of Urbana, IL; and, Elbert Heatwole of Rocky Ford, CO and their families. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2002, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE.
