LEWIS -- Velma G. Lewis, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1936, died Wednesday, October 25, 2006. She is survived by her children: Patricia Martin and husband, Robert of Albuquerque, Chuck Lewis and wife, Janet of Albuquerque, Katherine Vandenburg of El Paso, TX, John F. Lewis and wife, Alexis of Albuquerque, and Susan E. Lewis of Albuquerque; seven grandsons, Rob, Chuck, David, Marc, Scot, Jonathan, and Taylor; two granddaughters, Beth and Kellyn; five great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Francis A."Bud" Lewis in 1980 and one brother, John T. Gallagher. She was born on January 31, 1918 in San Antonio, TX. Velma met her husband while both were attending UNM and they were married on December 25, 1939. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and a past member of the Four Hills Country Club and The Petroleum Club. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren provided her with pride and happiness her entire life. She will be missed by all who knew her. Services will be held at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, on Monday, October 30, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. BEAGEN -- Mari Beagen, 50 passed away on October 25, 2006. She is survived by her loving husband, Bill of 27 years. Mari was the driving force in assisting Bill in becoming President of CAC Inc. She was a wonderful loving mother to her two sons, Trevor and Patrick. She is also survived by her mother, Irene Paul; sisters, Sally Rose, Barbara Johnson, Constance Hanner, Lori Paul, and Amanda Jenkins; brothers, David Paul and Martin Paul. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert; sister, Rhea Paul; and brother, Christian Paul. Mari fiercely battled cancer for seven years. FLOWERS -- John "Doc" Richard Flowers, 69, of Casa Grande, AZ, passed away October 20, 2006 in Casa Grande. He was born February 4, 1937, at Oklahoma City, OK. He was a physician's assistant. He had a great love of Mustangs and was active in several car clubs. He served in the Army as a CW02 during the Vietnam War. His military career spanned over 26 years, and his awards and recognition for his continuous service is on display at the Casa Grande Valley Historical Society Museum. He also was the executive council member for American Division Veterans Association. He was a Board member for the University of New Mexico and his sense of humor will be missed. Graveside Memorial Services will be held Monday, October 30, 2006, at National Memorial Cemetery of Phoenix, in Phoenix, AZ, at 1 p.m. Chaplain Darrell Jackson will officiate. "Doc" is survived by: his wife: Lily Flowers; three sons:Max (and Maria) Flowers of Harbor City, CA, Martin Flowers of Brooklyn, NY,David (and Amber) Flowers of Columbia, SC; one daughter: Lisa (and Tony) Espinosa of Chandler, AZ; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. LARSON -- Esther Longwood Larson, 92, beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, friend, died peacefully of natural causes at the home of Will and Beth Larson, her son and daughter-in-law (Cedar Crest, NM) on October 3, 2006. Mrs. Larson was born on December 3, 1913 at the homestead ranch of her parents in Lemmon, SD. She received a teaching degree from South Dakota State College and taught in her home state. She married Helmer Olaf Larson (deceased, 1996) in 1942. After relocating in Albuquerque because of health concerns, they reared their three children and pursued a very active life in their new Southwestern home; but Mrs. Larson's Midwestern roots were extremely important to her and she remained very connected to her family throughout her life. She received a graduate degree in history from UNM; she taught at Albuquerque High and Garfield Middle Schools. Mrs. Larson was among the first staff at Manzano High, where she was instrumental in developing the very rigorous Humanities program. She retired in 1974. Mrs. Larson was very involved at St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was devoted to social ministry, and was passionate about the work of The Storehouse. She also served as a very active officer of the church council and Lutheran Church Women and as a Sunday school teacher and member of many committees. After retirement, her involvement in a painting class at her church encouraged a lifelong artistic talent; with great attention to detail, she painted Southwestern and prairie scenes that have delighted her family. Mrs. Larson was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her children, William and wife, Beth of Cedar Crest; John and wife, Linda of Piscataway, NJ; Marie and husband, William Shafer of Oreland, PA. Her devoted grandchildren are William Larson II and wife, Lisa Collins of Albuquerque; Erin and husband, Steve Reil of Albuquerque; Lauren and husband, Martin Hurley and Donald and wife, Lisa Sullivan of New Jersey; William Shafer IV, John and wife, Karla Shafer of Pennsylvania; and Kristina and husband, Drew Gonser of Delaware. Great-grandchildren are Megan, Kiley, and Natalie Reil; Casey, Owen, Brendyn, and Gemma Hurley; Nicole Sullivan; Fiona Shafer; Jack, Sophia, Ella, and Samuel Gonser. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews across the country. All have been inspired by the faith, courage, and humble strength of this dear woman. Mrs. Larson will be remembered for her gracious and loving hospitality to all and for her intelligent, caring ways. Her sense of humor, punctuated by a twinkle in her eye and wonderful laughter, was joyful. Esther's influence upon her many students, her church family and friends, and her very devoted family will be celebrated on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with a Memorial Service of thanksgiving for her life at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Road NE, Albuquerque, 87102. VIRAG -- Viola J. Virag, 61, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2006, at her home. She lived in Bosque Farms for over 30 years, born in Marfa, Texas on March 11, 1945. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Peralta and her favorite hobby was playing the slot machines. She loved being with her family and friends and especially with her 11 grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters: Mellie Benavidez of Las Cruces; Tommie and husband Pete Talsma of South Dakota; Eva Jacquez of Las Cruces; and Mary Ann and husband Victor Garcia of Dona Ana; and her mother-in-law Ida Virag and sister-in-laws all of Arizona. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; the Lugo family of Albuquerque and Duran family of Bosque Farms.
