EAST -- Robert Mason East, 81, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2003. Robert was born August 22, 1922 the son of Harold and Isabel Mason East in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He had been a Foreign Service Officer with the Federal Government before retiring. Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Shelton East; two brothers, Johnny and Harold East; and one sister, Tish Fenwick. Robert is survived by his wife, Eleanor; his daughter, Marsha East; Eleanor's children, Carolyn Chikazunga, and Renee Okoye; sisters, Sandy Jackson and Gwen Prescott; brothers, Philip, Milton, and Ronald East; and his care taker, Priscilla Fiege. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at the Rio Grande Presbyterian Church, 600 Coors Rd., Albuquerque, with Rev. Jean Thompson officiating. GOMEZ -- Mrs. Isabelita C. Gomez, 81, beloved mother, grandmother and sister passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2003. Mrs. Gomez was a resident of Albuquerque. Mrs. Gomez was preceded in death by her parents, Francisco and Rosa Chavez; her husband, Bennie P. Gomez and a son, Dennis Gomez. Mrs. Gomez is survived by her loving children; one son, Frank Gomez and wife Lillian; three daughters, Gloria Vigil and husband, Tony, Corrine Maldonado; Mabel Tafoya and husband Johnny, all from Albuquerque. Mrs. Gomez is also survived by her grandchildren, Darlene Baca and husband, Raymond, Tony Vigil and wife, Brenda, Dennis Vigil and wife, Sandra, Michael Maldonado and wife, Selina, Valarie Tafoya, Adrian Tafoya and wife, Antoinette, Stephanie and Jennifer Tafoya; great grandchildren, Aaron, Antonio I I I, Carlos, Alex, Tynae, Amber, Estevan, Darey, Raquel, Izaiah, Jeramiah and Leslie; two brothers, Willie Chavez and wife, Anita, Pat Chavez and wife Ester all from Magdalena, N.M. and many other family members and friends. Mrs. Gomez was a member of the Catholic Church and her life revolved around her family. She was happiest when they were all together, laughing and enjoying the closeness they shared. A visitation for Mrs. Gomez will be Friday evening in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Gabriella Nieto. A final visitation for Mrs. Gomez will be Saturday morning from 7:30 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 8:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Tony Vigil, Dennis Vigil, Michael Maldonado, Adrian Tafoya, Antonio Vigil III and Raymond Baca. Honorary Pallbearer will be Valerie Tafoya. MARTINEZ -- Jesusita Martinez, 90, a lifetime resident of New Mexico, died Friday, October 3, 2003. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvino Carriaga and Jacoba Gutierrez-Carriaga. Mrs. Martinez was also preceded in death by her husband, Guillermo Martinez in 1990 and her son, Guillermo "Billy" Martinez in 1998. She is survived by her daughters, Martha Elizabeth Martinez, Edna Martinez Schroeder and Marie Trujillo; a granddaughter, Ana Schroeder; sisters, Virginia C. Casares and Sarah Grimm, all of Albuquerque; a special niece, Veronica Trujillo, many other nieces and nephews of the Carriaga family, special friend Renee Wood and son in-law, Henry Schroeder. Mrs. Martinez was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a long-time member of El Buen Samaritano Methodist Church where she was active in Las Mujeres Methodistas and where she taught Children's Sunday School for many years. Services were held Tuesday 11:00 a.m., at El Buen Samaritano Methodist Church, 700 Granite NW, with Pastor Jesus Bermudez officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Adan Carriaga, Johnny Chavez, John Paul Mora, Mike Trujillo, Paul Garcia, Jr. and Max Cisneros. RIVERA -- Rita Marie Sisneros Rivera, age 62, passed away September 22, 2003 at the Albuquerque Regional Medical Center from complications of cancer. Rita was born November 27, 1940 in Las Vegas, NM to the home of Ramon D. and Vicenta Romero Sisneros. She was reared in Colonias and attended schools at Santa Rosa. Rita married Gerald A. Rivera on October 1, 1960. She loved painting, drawing, flowers, interior decorating, walking, nature, gardening, dancing and cleaning house. She was a member of Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church. Rita was the best wife, mother, nana and sister that anyone could ever asked for. She will be greatly missed by all. Rita is preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Vicenta Sisneros; son, Giovanni Rivera; brother, Ramoncito Sisneros; sister, Vita Lucero; mother and father-in-law, Mary and Librado Rivera. Survivors include her husband, Gerald A. Rivera of the family home in Santa Rosa; daughters, Deadra Rivera Apodaca and husband, Johnny of Albuquerque, Darlene Taylor and husband, Robert of Denver, CO, Denise Rivera of Albuquerque, Desiree Rivera Lewis and husband, Jess and Doreen Rivera Ulibarri and husband, Peter of Rio Rancho; ten grandchildren John Eric, Andrew, twins Tre and Thad, Nasticia, Leticia, Faustina, Steven, Phillip and Stephani. Also surviving are her sisters, Clara Chavez and Paula Salcido of Santa Rosa, Chona Mares and husband, Percy of Albuquerque, Dea Hall and husband, Chuck of Albuquerque; one brother, Christian Sisneros of Colonias; brother and sisters-in-law, F. Geroge Rivera and wife, Theresa of Santa Rosa, Delores Sierra and husband, Steve of Moriarty, Naty Madril and husband, Jake of Clovis and Gloria Griego and husband, Jim of Santa Rosa; numerouse nieces, nephews and a host of friends and relatives. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. from Santa Rosa De Lima with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa. Serving as Pallbearers were Phillip Lewis, Steven Lewis, John Eric Apodaca, Patrick Chavez, George Rivera Claude Salcido, Charles Hall, Jr. and Mauricio Madril. Honorary Pallbearers were her grandchildren. A memorial has been set up in Rita's name at Wells Fargo Bank, account #2571008776. CHAVEZ -- Julie. Ms. Julie S. Chavez, 26, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on September 26, 2003. Julie is the beloved daughter to, Valerie Muniz and husband Frank and Benny Chavez and wife Louisa. Julie is also survived by her daughter, Annalisa Marie Jaramillo and her father, Francisco; two brothers, Jacob Chavez and Benny Chavez Jr.; two stepsisters, Danielle Lucrero an Angel Muniz; three stepbrothers, Leon Lucero, Frank Muniz, Jr. and Carlos Muniz; her grandmother, Corine Chavez; grandfather, Maurico Maldonado; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Julie was a member of the Catholic Church. SERNA -- Johnny Serna, 62, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 19, 2003. Johnny is survived by one daughter, Stephanie and husband, Pat Garcia; three sons, John Michael and wife, Lupe, Matthew and wife, Rachel, Joseph and wife, Channa; five loving grandchildren, Felicia, Marisa, Patrick, Mark and Joseph Jr.; four brothers and two sisters. He is preceded in death by his parents, Celedon and Clara Serna. Mr. Serna was a member of the Catholic Church, a Veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam era, and a member of the American Legion. He was an avid musician and always carried his guitar with him. He loved singing "Las Mananitas" for his family and friends on birthdays and holidays. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2003 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Reserve, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Church. Interment will follow in the St. Francis Cemetery in Reserve, NM. It had always been Johnny's wish to go back home to the ranch in Reserve to be buried next to his mother.
