AUSTIN -- Arnold. Lt. Col. Arnold D. Austin, U.S. Air Force, Ret'd., 78, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, September 26, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Loma Austin; daughter, Beverly Renee Mercer of Lincoln, NE; son, Charles Edward Austin and wife, Kelly of Pitts Town, NJ; grandchildren, Zachary Blume, Josh and Ashley Austin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister. Mr. Austin was a longtime member of Paradise Hills United Methodist Church. He served his country in the United States Air Force for 30 years. He was a Navigator with the 8th Air Force in England during WWII. Following the war, he served with the U.S. Air Force Intelligence in Okinawa and Guam. He was a BSF Instructor for 9 years. Memorial Service will be Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. at Paradise Hills United Methodist Church, 4700 Paradise Blvd. NW. Cremated remains will be interred at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM at a later date. BARNES -- Billy Barnes, 74, a resident of Albuquerque since 1968, died Thursday, September 25, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Barnes of Albuquerque; brother, J.T. Barnes of Pace, FL; sister, Wara Barnes Voss and husband Bill also of Pace, FL; sister-in-law, Lessie Henderson Barnes of Pensacola, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Mattie Barnes; sisters, Clara Barnes Lloyd, Onie Barnes Wall, and Eva Barnes Harter; brothers, Son Barnes and Watson Barnes. Billy retired from the USAF in 1967 after serving 20 years where he was a motion picture camera technician. He also served three years in Greenland. After retirement, he worked in Civil Service at Eglin AFB. He then started Barnes Camera Repair in Albuquerque. He was a long time member of St. John's United Methodist Church. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans in Albuquerque and EDEKER-DUBOSE American Legion Post 121 in Jay, FL. He was also a Master Mason. Crypt side services will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating. CHAVEZ -- Julie. Ms. Julie S. Chavez, 26, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on September 26, 2003. Julie is the beloved daughter to, Valerie Muniz and husband Frank and Benny Chavez and wife Louisa. Julie is also survived by her daughter, Annalisa Marie Jaramillo and her father, Francisco; two brothers, Jacob Chavez and Benny Chavez Jr.; two stepsisters, Danielle Lucrero an Angel Muniz; three stepbrothers, Leon Lucero, Frank Muniz, Jr. and Carlos Muniz; her grandmother, Corine Chavez; grandfather, Maurico Maldonado; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Julie was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation for Julie will be Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Edwin's Catholic Church, 2105 Barcelona SW with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon O.J. Luna. CORNELIUS -- Dora E. Cornelius, 93, a resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, September 24, 2003. She is survived by her son, Paul Theodore Cornelius of Albuquerque; brother, Richard William Smallfield and wife, Shirley of St. Medfield, MA; sisters, Martha Irene Schwab of Albuquerque and Anna Marie Henderson of St. Hendricks, MN; and niece, Kathy Bieritz of Sterling, VA. Mrs. Cornelius was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Cornelius. She was a member of Daughter of the Nile-Yucca Temple #7, Desert Rose #70, Order of the Eastern Star, past Worthy Matron, Las Mesa Court #3 and Order of the Amaranth of Albuquerque. Mrs. Cornelius was also a member of St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church. Services will be held Monday, 2:00 p.m., at St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Pl NE, with Father David Luckenbach officiating. DEWOLFF -- Samuel DeWolff, 88, passed away Friday, September 26, 2003 at Lovelace Medical Center. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Clarissa (Clare) DeWolff; one daughter Natalie Elefant; and three grandsons, Daniel and wife, Alyssa, Stuart and wife, Sandi, and Kenneth; and three great-grandsons. He is also survived by his step-children, Rose Marie Scott-Blair and husband Michael, Judy Quinn and husband, Steve, and Edwin Fitzgerald and wife, Clarca. He is survived by eight step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren. He was born in Denver, CO and was a member of the class of 1937 at The University of Colorado School of Business Administration. Mr. DeWolff served in the US Coast Guard during World War II. He was a Cosmetology Commissioner for the eight western states. He served as Treasurer of the National Association of Cosmetology School Owners Association and assisted with the State Board examinations in New Mexico for many years. He was owner of the Santa Fe College of Beauty and later the DeWolff College of Hair Styling and Cosmetology until 1981 when he retired. He was a member of Temple Lodge #6AF&AM and of the Ballut Abyad Temple of the Shrine. He was "Nero" in the Clown Unit of the Ballut Abyad Temple of the Shrine for several years. Funeral services will be held at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at Eleven o'clock a.m. Entombment will take place at Fairmount Mausoleum in Denver, Co. DOANE -- Phyllis G. Doane, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, died Friday, September 19, 2003. She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Davis and Karen McDaniel and husband, Jeff, all of Albuquerque; grandsons, Thomas McDaniel wife, Tammy and Bradley McDaniel; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Michael and Samuel; brothers, Preston Flora and wife, Elsie of California and Howard Flora and wife, Mary Alice of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Doane was preceded in death by her husband, Retired General Don L. Doane; and brother, George Flora. She was a lifetime member of St. Marks on the Mesa Episcopal Church. Mrs. Doane was a founding member of the Tennis Club of Albuquerque. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Wednesday, October 1st, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Mark on the Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Pl. NE. ENGLISH -- Blanche. In loving memory of Blanche Marie English also knows as "tootsie" passed away on September 26, 2003 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born on November 24, 1915 on the Turtle Mtn. Indian Reservation where she was a tribal member in Belcourt, ND. She was the beloved wife of Samuel Elliot English who passed in October 2002. They were married for 62 years. She is preceded in death by her parents Francis and Margaret Delorme, brother David Delorme, sister Alma Delorme, and grandson Richard English. She is survived by her sister Estella Garcia and Rhea Kness. Her children Samuel F. English, Ronald R. English and wife Janet, Robert G. English, Donna M. English, and Thomas E. English. Her grandchildren are Sam English Jr. and 2 sons, Phil and Valerie Herrera and 5 children, William and Michelle Aguilar and three children, Haley English; Kai English, Kalub English, Sky and Jill English and 2 sons, Brian and Fawn Pahcoddy and 3 children, Ronay English, David Astor, Feather Astor and son, Sequioa Astor, and Ace Astor; Quiana English and 2 children. She attended and graduated form the Nursing School at the University of Kansas. After graduation she was a devoted registered nurse for the Indian Health Services and St. Joseph Hospital in Albuquerque. She was a member of the Indian Haskell Club, and a volunteer for RSVP (senior program). There will be a viewing on Monday, September 29, 2003 from 4-9 p.m. at French Mortuary - Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. FALLON -- John T. "Jack" Fallon, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died Sunday, September 28, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Hazel Fallon; son, Steve Fallon of Dallas, TX, daughter, Jan Young and Jack Savay of Sherman Oaks, CA, grandsons, J.P. Fallon of Bedford, TX, Greg Fallon of Charlotte, NC and granddaughter, Deirdre Zube of Greentown, PA. Jack was a graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder and was a professional engineer having worked for Westinghouse, Goodyear Aircraft, Rio Grande Railroad and retired from the Federal Government, Defense Atomic Support Agency after 25 years of service. During those years Jack traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia. Jack enjoyed collecting and restoring automobiles. FARMER-BETTIS -- Judine Willburn born August 28, 1914, continues her life with God. Mrs. Farmer-Bettis was raised by her grandparents and sister, Ethyl and brother, Lynn. Judine married Jack H. Farmer, Sr. in 1932. Mr. Farmer proceeds her in the journey as well as her siblings and her beloved mother-in-law, "Pearl." Always full of fun and honest conversation, she was a delight for her son, Jack Farmer, Jr. Judine married Aldon Bettis in 1997 and lived in Duncan, Arizona, until her illness in 1999. Judine is mother to Jack and his wife, Nisa; and her dear adopted daughter, Debbie Katsch; and grandmother to Leslie, Lissa and Lindsie. The nieces and nephews of Mrs. Farmer-Bettis gave her happiness and she treasured their company. Thank you, Judine, for your laughter and your courage. Your journey will be filled with love. HERRERA -- Mr. Carlos P. (Charlie) Herrera, 71, a resident of Albuquerque was called home to be with our Lord on September 27, 2003. Mr. Herrera passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family. Mr. Herrera was born in Santo Nino, New Mexico on October 5, 1931. Mr. Herrera battled stomach, liver and pancreatic cancer for nine years. Mr. Herrera was married on November 28, 1949 in Santa Cruz, N.M. to his loving wife of 54 years, Martha Herrera. Mr. Herrera is survived by one daughter, Veronica Monthan and husband, Bill; four sons, Toby Herrera and wife, Bernice Aragon, Carlos P. Herrera Jr. and wife, Helen Peterson, Dan Herrera and wife, Sylvia Romero, Gil Herrera and wife, Cynthia Villareal; his siblings, Juanita Valdez of Albuq., Isifredo Herrera of Provo, Utah and Mela Cameo; his in-laws, Amada Herrera of Espanola, Lourdes Herrera of San Ramon, Ca., Juanita Vigil of Denver, Ignacio and Josie Trujillo of Arroya Seco, Dionicio and Clara Trujillo of Albuq., Margaret and Joseph Rodriguez of Santa Fe, Helen and Frank Ortiz of Albuq.; 15 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Herrera is preceded in death by his parents, Rafael and Ramoncita Herrera, two brothers, Leo Herrera and John C. Herrera. Mr. Herrera was a member of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church for 45 years, Mr. and Mrs., Herrera enjoyed dancing and they led hundreds of wedding marches for newly weds and for church fiestas all over New Mexico, he was employed by Super Service Station and Tire Co. Inc. from 1956-1988 and with U.N.M. until 1993. A visitation will be Tuesday evening at Holy Rosary Church, 5415 Fortuna NW from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Terry Vargas. A final visitation will be Wednesday morning from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Reverand Joel Garner, O. Pream. Honorary Pallbearers will be, JoAnn Herrera, Cathy Herrera, Suzan Chavez, Ken Sanchez, Lee Perea, Peter Gonzales, Shirley Villasenor and Arthur Herrera. MASON -- Irma M. Mason, age 92 a resident of Albuquerque for the past 63 years and a life long resident of New Mexico died Wednesday September 24, 2003. Mrs. Mason is survived by one daughter Alice Salinas and her husband David of North Dakota; one son Wesley S. Mason Jr. of Albuquerque; one sister Edythe Lorenzo of Paguate, NM; three grandchildren Philip (Buzzy) Cherino, Julie Johnson, and Irma Heredia all of California; five great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. She was the granddaughter of Walter Gunn Marmon. Two husbands John Peltier and Wesley S. Mason Sr. preceded Irma in death. Mrs. Mason was a member of the Sage Ward - Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, president of the Relief Society; she played the piano, and was choir director and also was a member of the Laguna Colleague. Viewing and visitation will be held Monday September 29, 2003 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Strong-Thorne Mortuary. MATHEWS -- Lydia Mathews passed away Saturday September 27, 2003. She was born in San Marcial, NM as Lydia Cordova. She was educated in Socorro, NM. Graduating from high school she was preceded in death by her father and mother, three brothers and one sister. She came to Albuquerque in the late fifties working in various hospitals and homes as a private nurse. She was a volunteer for many worthy causes. She was giving of herself unrelenting and unselfishly always with loving and caring generosity. Her husband a war veteran passed away in 1987. Lydia is leaving behind her loving companion of 15 years Jose Montano, three daughters Maria Sanchez and husband Louis, Lorraine Garcia, Isabel Franco and Alan Greenier. Nine grand children Gloria Mora, Maria Elena, Ida, John Alvin, Steven Jr. Shantel, James, Chrystal, Johnathan. Three great-grandchildren: Yliana, Ashant`e and Brian. Three brothers: Felix Trujillo and wife Mary, Joe Trujillo and wife Lucy, Arturo Cordova and wife Linda, one sister in-law Delia Trujillo and many nieces and nephews. RUIZ -- Hilario Ruiz, 94, a native of San Isidro, New Mexico passed away on Friday September 26, 2003 in Las Vegas, NM. He is preceded in death by his parents, Apolinar Ruiz and Josephina Benavidez Ruiz. Also, one sister, Merlina Ruiz; and two brothers, Jacobo Ruiz, and Felimon Ruiz; brothers-in-law, Rogelio Valencia and Orlando Perea. Surviving are two sisters, Eulalia "Lala" Valencia and Flora Perea. Special nieces and nephews, Frances Fresquez and husband, Alan, Sylvia Gonzales and husband, Felix, Chavella Ruiz, Josie Cortez, Tony Ruiz and wife, Susie, Roy Valencia, Alex Perea, Oliver Perea and wife, Donna, Clarence Perea and wife, Antoinette, Georgia Baca and husband, Charlie, Merlynn Gurule and Yolanda Coby and husband, David. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews whom he loved and adored. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday September 29, 2003 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in San Isidro (south), New Mexico. SENA -- Ralph Sena, age 88 and a life long resident of New Mexico died on Friday September 26, 2003. Mr. Sena is survived by one son Daniel Sena and his wife Roberta of Rio Rancho; daughter-in-law Natoma Sena-Fowler of Albuquerque; brother Rolando Sena of Pueblo, CO; half sister Madelena Madrid of Santa Rosa, NM; three grandchildren Sean, Joseph, and Stephanie Sena; great granddaughter Angelica Sena. Ralph was preceded in death by his wife Fulgencia M. Sena and a son Robert A. Sena. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. THOMAS -- Shirley J. Thomas, 57, a resident of Albuquerque since 1999, died Tuesday, September 23, 2003. She is survived by her husband, William E. Thomas of Albuquerque, they were married November 5, 1994; daughter, Tammy Sanders of Berlin, Germany; mother, Mary Millerden of Tuscaloosa, AL; sisters, Mary Evon Milton of Tuscaloosa, AL and Frankie Jackson of Long Beach, CA; and brothers, Larry Donnell Carpenter of Birmingham, AL and John Carpenter of Tuscaloosa, AL. Shirley was born in Greene County, Alabama on July 20, 1946 to Frank Bruno and Mary Manning. She professed a hope in Christ and was baptized at the age of ten. She attended Central High School in Tuscaloosa and went on to become a licensed Real Estate Agent in the State of Texas. Other business ventures included starting and running ACU - Claim Services specializing in insurance claim processing. Shirley became an Ordained Minister who presided over more than 100 wedding ceremonies. She was a member of the Star of the West #51, Order of the Eastern Stars of Texas and God's House Church. Services will be held Monday, 10:00 a.m., at God's House Church, 2335 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Bishop Michael Shelby, officiating. Interment will be Monday, 1:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
