MARTINEZ -- David J. ( Mocho ) Martinez, 45, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on July 12, 2005 with his loving family by his side. David is survived by his four sisters, Ramona Lopez and husband, Nemecio, Loretta Gallegos and husband, Leonard, Gloria Flores and Henry Hernandez, Natalie Sena and husband, Eddy; four brothers, Rudy Martinez and wife, Vicky, Mike Roybal and wife, Mary, Danny Roybal and wife, Catalina, Tony Martinez and wife, Ellie of Houston, Texas; a special nephew, Daniel Martinez; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, Natividad and Lorina Martinez and a brother in law, David Flores. David was a member of the Catholic Church, he was a graduate of Rio Grande High School, 1977 and was employed at Halbert Custom Cabinets. A visitation for David will be Friday evening from 6:30 p.m until 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Mrs. Eileen Montoya. A final visitation will be Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Santuario de San Martin Catholic Church, 8301 Camino San Martin SW with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. by Father James Vance. BENAVIDEZ -- Pauline "Pablita" Benavidez, age 81, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, beloved mother and grandmother "Nannie," passed away peacefully at home on March 30, 2005, surrounded by her family. We all loved her so very much; we'll miss her, and will have her in our hearts for the rest of our lives. She led a Christian life and carried Jesus in her heart. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Pauline had numerous charities that she donated to including the Disabled Veterans of America, the Salvation Army, and orphans in other countries. She was preceded in death by her parents, Saturnino and Loretta Chavez; and her sister Lita Gabaldon. Pauline is survived by her seven children, Sylvia Lovato, Dorella and husband, Ralph Ortiz, Ruth and husband, Armando Velasco, Jane and husband, John Montoya, David Benavidez, Rosemarie and husband, Gerald Castillo, Debbie and husband, Kenneth Aragon; 22 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren, and she loved them all. Pauline is also survived by her brother, Saturnino Chavez and wife, Concha; Mary Barreras, Ermelina and husband, Alex Ortega, and Agapita Zamora. Services will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel beginning with a viewing on Sunday, April 3, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. A final visitation will take place on Monday, April 4, 2005, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Terrace Grove Cemetery. ARMIJO -- Mary L. Armijo, age 87, a resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 24,2005 at Laurel Health Care in Albuquerque, NM. For the last two months of her life she exhibited grace, dignity and strength in dealing with her brief final illness, and with her gentle manner and wit she continued to inspire her family and friends to the day of her passing. She was born on December 23, 1917 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to the late Henry Cabeza de Vaca and Peregrina Baca. After graduating from Albuquerque High School in 1936, she attended secretarial school in Albuquerque, and became a career woman at the time when there were few opportunities available to a young women. She began working at Kirtland Air Field in the years before WWII. She often recalled the thrill of meeting actor Jimmy Stewart when he visited the base during the war years. In 1939, Mary and her best friend, Mary Jean Armijo (who many years later would become her sister-in-law), pooled their savings and commenced a cross-country journey by rail that took them to the New York World's Trade Fair where she remembered seeing the great Gypsy Rose Lee. Then they traveled on to Washington, DC, where they were guests of family and friends, U.S. Senator Dennis Chavez and Mrs. Chavez. Shortly after the war, she married Luis Armijo and began a career in Las Vegas with the State of New Mexico. She retired from her job as a supervisor with the New Mexico Dept. of Human Services in 1983 after thirty three years of service. During her retirement years, she was actively involved with the New Mexico Public Employees Retirement Association and the efforts to secure better health coverage for state retirees. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, and was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas Court #1301 for over fifty years, State Retirees Association, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Las Vegas Women's Club, AARP and Senior Circle. Her great loves were her grandchildren and New Mexico History. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Cabeza de Vaca and Peregrina Baca; and her loving husband, Luis Armijo; and her father and mother-in-law, District Judge Luis E. Armijo and Eugenia Delgado Armijo. She is survived by her daughters, United States District Judge Christina Armijo, Francesca Armijo, Patricia Armijo Vigil and son-in-law, David; son, Luis E. Armijo II; sister, Dolly Montoya and husband, Rudolph; sisters-in-law, Mary Jean Maas, Carmen A. ORTEGA -- JESSIE M. Mrs. Jessie M. Ortega, 58, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on March 15, 2005 peacefully at home in the arms of her loving family. Jessie is the beloved wife to Ernie O. Ortega, married for 38 years.
