Shroba -- Muriel June Shroba, a resident of Albuquerque for 13 years, passed away on Tuesday, November 16 at 10:05 a.m. She was the loving wife of Thomas G. Shroba for 57 years; and a loving mother to a daughter, Nancy Lee, and a son, Thomas Shroba Jr., all of Albuquerque. She is also survived by five grandchildren, James Clayton Shroba of Chicago, Thomas Shroba III and wife, Laura of New Jersey, Laura Ann Lee of Rio Rancho, Janelle and Jennie L. Shroba of Paradise Hills. Finally, she is survived by three great-granddaughters, Averie, Abby and Amara. She gave so much of herself to her husband and family, and will live on in our hearts until we meet again in Paradise. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alameda Bible Church.

Olivas -- Fred"Freddie" A. Olivas died Friday in Albuquerque at the age of 18. Freddie is survived by his father, Fred Olivas; mother, Irene Olivas; brother, Phillip Olivas; grandparents, Luis and Lucy Gallegos and Rose Olivas; aunts, Betty Montes, Julia Lucero, Cathy Taylor, Sarah Wise, Helen Zamora, Edna Valdez, Karen Gallegos, Stella Olivas, Margie Olivas, and Leland Olivas; uncles, Louie Galleogs, Stephen Galleogs, Danny Olivas, Mark Olivas, and Frank Olivas; and numerous cousins and relatives. Funeral services for Freddie will be held on Wednesday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW, where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be James Wise, Jason Taylor, Daniel Zamora, Raymundo Apodaca, Vince Montes and John Watson. Oldaker -- Eunice Rowe Oldaker, 98, died Tuesday, November 9, 1999, at the Montebello Healthcare Center, where she had lived for only a short time. Mrs. Oldaker was born in Ault, CO on July 4, 1901 to James Henry and Sarah Margaret (McLeod) Rowe. At a very young age, her family moved to Greeley, CO when her father retired from ranching. Mrs. Oldaker attended and graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, where she met her husband, Merritt W. Oldaker. They were married in her parent's home on January 14, 1926 in Greeley, CO. Mrs. Oldaker came to Albuquerque where her husband established a law practice. She worked as a substitute teacher in junior high schools for a short time, then stayed in the home caring for her three children and her husband. Mrs. Oldaker was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Albuquerque. Mrs. Oldaker was also a 60-year member and past president of Chapter S, P.E.O., Albuquerque. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Oldaker Dickinson of Estes Park, CO; daughters-in-law, Buena Rassmusen Oldaker of Albuquerque and Charlotte Ross Oldaker of Santa Rosa, CA; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merritt W.; her sons, Merritt R. and William H.; son-in-law, Milan A. Dickinson; granddaughter, Debra Dickinson; one brother; and her parents. Private family graveside services were held at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, with Rev. Carl Soderberg officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Quinones -- Gabriel Quinones, 76, born in Gallup, New Mexico and a resident of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away on November 10, 1999. Mr. Quinones is the beloved husband of 53 years to Sylvia Quinones. He is also survived by his children, Gabriel Quinones III and his wife, Lois, Beverly Teames and husband, James, Sandra Klevesahl and husband, Walter II, Anthony Quinones and wife, Rochelle; two sisters, Caroline Montoya and Frances Gonzales; a son-in-law, Milton; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Tommie Lambert. Mr. quinones was a member of the Catholic Church. He was 19 years old when he joined the U.S. Army to defend his country's freedom in World War II. Upon joining the Army, Mr. quinones rose quickly to the rank of Sergeant. He was assigned to the U.S. Army Paratrooper Division. In 1943 he and his troop were assigned a reconnaissance paratrooper drop over Sicily, which was occupied by enemy troops. During the high risk drop, several men were killed. Gabriel was one of eight men from his squad who was captured by the Germans. Upon being captured, the Germans marched him for five weeks across the Italian Straights into Germany. He was placed into a German Prisoner of War (POW) Camp called"Stallog II". He spent two years fighting the problem of just surviving. He was tortured, beaten and mentally tormented. Each day Gabriel had to use every bit of his mental and physical strength just to see the next day. From the original eight men who where captured with him, only three survived. On April 12, 1945, the Second Armored Card Division of the U. S. Army took occupation and control over the portion of Germany which Stallog II was located, freeing the surviving prisoners. Upon release, Gabriel continued duty with his Paratrooper Division. He received many medals and citation, one of which is the purple heart. Mr. Quinones, was a Hero in my eyes and in the eyes of many others, but I am only one of a few who can call him my great-grandfather. A Rosary will be recited Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquanis Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd., Rio Rancho, N.M. with visitation at the church after 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquanis Church, with final viewing at the church after 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be, Richard Centeno, Matthew Quinones, Paul Teames, Raymond Gabaldon, Freddie Montoya, Aaron Quinones, Nicholas Vitale. Honorary will be, Nicholas Vitale and William Quinones. Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Rd. SW in charge of arrangements.

Swem -- T. Dale Swem, a resident of New Mexico since 1991, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 1999. He was born April 20, 1907 and lived in Indiana, where he graduated from South Bend High School in 1926. He was initiated into St. Joseph Masonic Lodge #45 in 1936; was a member of the Elks Lodge; Past President of the South Bend Music Association; a member of Mishawaka Kiwanis Club; a charter member of the South Fork, Colorado Kiwanis Club; a member of St. James Cathedral in South Bend; and of St. John Episcopal Cathedral in Albuquerque. During WWII, Mr. Swem served in the rank of Captain with the Infantry Quarter Master Corp. from 1941 to 1945. He and his wife, the former Nina A. Palmer, were married on November 26, 1930. In addition to his beloved wife, Nina, he is survived by his sons, Thomas W. and wife, Marilyn J. Swem of Corrales and William D. and wife, Virginia L. Swem of Albuquerque; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to Sandia Hospice, 4775 Indian School Rd. Hann -- James H. Hann, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, passed from this life on November 10, 1999. Jim fought a valiant battle with the terminal illness that finally took him from his family and friends. His wife, Alma; daughters, Mary Lynn Baldwin, Marsha Jane Hann Davalos and husband, Ruben Davalos; step-daughter, Lynda Hahn and husband, David Hahn; step-son, Kenneth Selby, survive Jim. Jim also had seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. His brothers, John and George, as well as his parents, preceded him in death. Jim was born December 19, 1919 in Zanesville, Ohio to Dr. Ralph M. Hann and Mary Ward Hann. He attended school in Zanesville and graduated from Lash High School. Jim served honorably with the United States Army prior to and after World War II. His expertise in swimming kept him in the United States during the early part of the war as he trained Army recruits to survive in water operations. He eventually spent 13 months in the European Theatre of Operations before returning stateside. After the war Jim spent some time in the Army Reserves before he was hired at Sandia National Laboratories. Jim served the Labs faithfully for 42 years before he opted for retirement in 1991. During that time he made many friends with his humor and willingness to assist those who asked for his help. Jim was a charter member of Coronado Club and actively supported his children as they swam for the club in local and regional meets. Jim lived a bountiful life, enjoying many outdoor activities, including his passion for fishing in Red River. He was an avid golfer who corrupted many friends with his "refreshments" as they played the various courses in the city. In the past few years, Jim enjoyed frequent trips to Las Vegas, where he could be seen making new friends at the Pai Gow tables in the Riviera Hotel. Those who were fortunate enough to know him will miss Jim's laughter and humor. A viewing will be held at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, on Friday, November 12, 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, November 13, Rev. Jim Hawk of St. John's United Methodist Church will conduct a Memorial service at the mortuary at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Pallbearers will be Martha Baldwin, Sarah Baldwin, Chuck Baldwin, Keith Baldwin, Kenneth Selby and Brian Hughes. Honorary pallbearer will be Albert Simballa. Key -- James A."Jimbo" Key, 76, a resident of Albuquerque since 1977, died Tuesday, November 9, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Walton Key of Albuquerque; daughter, Jan LeaNell Mann of Jacksonville, FL and April Lealia Key of Henderson, NV; grandchildren, Brittany Alexandria Wilson and Jasmine Patrice McCloud; brother, John F. Key Jr. and wife, Dolores of Flushing, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mr. Key was a teacher and administrator for the Detroit Public Schools System in Detroit, MI. He later worked as a Logistics Coordinator for the U.S. Postal Service. Mr. Key was also a faithful member of Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board and Sunday School teacher. Remembrance services will be held Friday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Rev. Mary Jaynes officiating. Services will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m., at Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 339 Pennsylvania NE, with Rev. Nathaniel D. Smith and Rev. James F. Billups officiating.
