Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday November 12, 1999

James H. Hann, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, passed from this life on November 10, 1999. Jim fought a valiant battle with the terminal illness that finally took him from his family and friends. His wife, Alma; daughters, Mary Lynn Baldwin, Marsha Jane Hann Davalos and husband, Ruben Davalos; step-daughter, Lynda Hahn and husband, David Hahn; step-son, Kenneth Selby, survive Jim. Jim also had seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. His brothers, John and George, as well as his parents, preceded him in death. Jim was born December 19, 1919 in Zanesville, Ohio to Dr. Ralph M. Hann and Mary Ward Hann. He attended school in Zanesville and graduated from Lash High School. Jim served honorably with the United States Army prior to and after World War II. His expertise in swimming kept him in the United States during the early part of the war as he trained Army recruits to survive in water operations. He eventually spent 13 months in the European Theatre of Operations before returning stateside. After the war Jim spent some time in the Army Reserves before he was hired at Sandia National Laboratories. Jim served the Labs faithfully for 42 years before he opted for retirement in 1991. During that time he made many friends with his humor and willingness to assist those who asked for his help. Jim was a charter member of Coronado Club and actively supported his children as they swam for the club in local and regional meets. Jim lived a bountiful life, enjoying many outdoor activities, including his passion for fishing in Red River. He was an avid golfer who corrupted many friends with his"refreshments" as they played the various courses in the city. In the past few years, Jim enjoyed frequent trips to Las Vegas, where he could be seen making new friends at the Pai Gow tables in the Riviera Hotel. Those who were fortunate enough to know him will miss Jim's laughter and humor.
