Ranyan -- Martha Ranyan, 74, a resident of Albuquerque since 1990, died Tuesday, January 5, 1999. She is survived by her children, Roberta L. Ranyan-Dowe and husband, James W. Dowe III of Albuquerque and John Michael Ranyan and wife, Diane of Grand Junction, CO; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Armin S. Ranyan in July 1998. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and private scattering will be held at a later date. French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.

Simons -- Katherine Gauss Simons, daughter of Anna Gauss and Arthur Clyde Simons, was born August 23, 1907 and died January 4, 1999. She is survived by cousins Gordon Gauss and wife of Denver, CO, Robert Hook & family of Wapello, IA, and Barbara Hook Montgomery of Minneapolis, MN and family. Katherine grew up in Shenandoah, IA, graduated from Grinnell College, and received her MA Degree from Columbia. At Columbia she also completed her Doctoral work (minus Dissertation). She began teaching at U.N.M. in 1939. Her primary field was Renaissance Literature. She was much involved with the General Honors Program. In 1968 she became a Full Professor and retired in 1973. Katherine's family, students and friends revere, love, and will miss her. Services are to be held at the U.N.M. Alumni Memorial Chapel Monday January 11 at 2 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the"Fund for General Honors" in memory of Katherine Simons and sent to the U.N.M. Foundation Hodgin Hall, Albuquerque, NM 87131.

Sinclair -- George S. Sinclair, 68, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, was called home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 6, 1999. Mr. Sinclair was born on March 18, 1930 in Houston, TX; he resided in Albuquerque; he was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy; a retired Railroad Conductor; and a member of the United Transportation Union, Local #1600. He is survived by his loving wife, Mercedes Sinclair of the family home; five sons, Phillip Sinclair and fiancee, Danielle Gonzales, Patrick Sinclair, Pete Duran and wife, Roberta, Paul Duran, all of Albuquerque, and Dennis Sinclair of Clovis, NM; three daughters, Joann Apodaca of Albuquerque, Elizabeth Uribe of El Paso, TX, Beverly Sinclair of Las Vegas, NV; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Bruce Sinclair of Texas and Harold Sinclair of Arizona. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. Visitations will be held Sunday, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., in the chapel of Garcia Mortuary on the corner of 8th Street and Iron. Final viewing will be Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service which will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Casket bearers will be David Martinez, Eric Garcia, Nick Aragon, James Burton, Stephen Sinclair and Sergio Uribe. Stirling -- Mary L. Stirling, 85, a resident of Kingman, AZ and a former resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, January 5, 1999. She is survived by her daughters, Janet Edwards and Joann Hamie, both of Kingman, AZ; sons, Victor Olson and Roland Olson, both of Kingman, AZ; sister, Nena Wood of Alamogordo; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Stirling was a member of the Dairy Farmers Association of NM. She worked at Creamland Dairy for 42 years and retired from Creamland. Mrs. Stirling was a member of San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 11:30 a.m., at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church, 2005 Plaza NW, Old Town, with Father Leo Lucero, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Thompson -- Donald"Don" A. Thompson, 72, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, died on Wednesday, January 6, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Dottie Thompson of the family home; children, Donald Thompson and wife, Francesca of Mt. Vernon, IA, Ronnie Thompson and wife, Lucy, and Tammy Edwards and husband, Terry, all of Collinsville, IL; step-daughters, Diana Buxton, Alice Davis and husband, Lyle, all of Albuquerque, and Sharon Wilson and husband, David of Tijeras, NM; grandchildren, Alex and Ethan Thompson, Karla Russell, Becky Thompson, Jennifer and Kelly Belaco, Leslie Rodgers, Vanessa and Adrienne Vineyard, Zachary Edwards, Erin and Brianne Edwards, Darius Upshaw, and Janell Upshaw; five great-grandchildren; brother, Clyde Thompson and wife, Mary of St. Peters, MO; sisters, Gladys Loeffler and husband, Gene of Marthasville, MO, and Verta Wall and husband, Lee Roy of St. Louis, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Vineyard; and sister, Josie. He was born in Dixon, MO in 1926 and served his country in the US Navy during World War II. He was a long distance truck driver for 38 years and retired in 1988. He was a member of Mesa Lodge #68, A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite of Santa Fe, Ballut Abyad Shrine Temple where he was a member of the Legion of Honor, and the VFW Lodge #401. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was loved and respected by his entire family, who will greatly miss him. Services will be held Sunday, January 10, 1999, 3:30 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas NE, with Chaplain Lemuel Boyles officiating. Interment will take place Monday, 1:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Toliver -- Barbara Anne (O'Reilly) Toliver, 76, born November 24, 1922, passed away January 7, 1999 at her home in Belen. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Lee; daughter, Peggy Anne Keller and husband, Jim of Los Lunas; son, Michael Edward Toliver and wife, Peg and granddaughter, Colleen Toliver of Eureka, IL; brother, Edward (Ned) J. O'Reilly and wife, Phyllis of Austin, TX; brother-in-law, Charles Picek; sister-in-law, Billie (Toliver) Roessler; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward A. O'Reilly and Anne E. (Poupore) O'Reilly; and sister, Margaret (O'Reilly) Picek. Barbara was born in Lawton, OK, went to High School in Oklahoma City, OK. She attended the University of Oklahoma a year and a half where she met and married her husband. During WWII she worked at an Oklahoma City newspaper. In 1946 she came to Los Alamos, NM then spent a year at Ohio State University and returned to Albuquerque in 1947. She moved to Belen in 1981. Barbara had many artistic talents: painting, scissor cutting, decorating and cooking. She enjoyed raising her children and loved birdwatching, music and literature, including westerns and mysteries. At her request, there will be no formal funeral services. After cremation, interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the organization of your choice or Eureka College, Eureka, IL. Arrangements by Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St., Belen, NM.

Tomlinson -- Peggy Tomlinson, 78, a former resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, December 31, 1998 in Tucson, AZ. She is survived by her sons, Thomas Tomlinson and wife, Celia of Albuquerque, Joseph Tomlinson and wife, Bertha of Tucson, AZ, Michael Tomlinson and wife, Jan of Los Alamos, NM, and Gary Hubbard and wife, Mickie of Albuquerque; daughter, Patricia Towsley and husband, Earl of Visallia, CA; sister, Pat Renault and husband, George of Arlington, VA; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Tomlinson. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Saturday, 9:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Deacon Frank See officiating.

Baca -- Paul G. Baca, 88, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, January 6, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rose Baca of the family home; son, Paul N. Baca of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughters, Carole J. Tafoya and husband, Laurence of Albuquerque and Debbie Sant and husband, Bret of Rio Rancho; great-grandsons, Brian Sant and Jayson Sant, both of Rio Rancho; brother, Frank Baca of Citrus Hills, CA; son-in-law, Rex E. Lewis of Albuquerque; numerous nieces and a nephew. Mr. Baca was born in San Marcial, NM. His parents died when he was young. Mr. Baca raised his younger brother. His careers included working at the Fred Harvey Alvarado Hotel, the Santa Fe Railroad, and Trans World Airlines where he retired in 1974. Mr. Baca was a courteous gentleman of the old school. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church for over 60 years. Scripture services will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Father Francis E. Renfroe, S.J. officiating. Bolton -- Wanda Bolton, a resident of Albuquerque, went to be with our Lord, Wednesday, January 6, 1999. She died of congestive heart failure at the age of 84. Mrs. Bolton is survived by two daughters, Judy Hill and husband, Pat of Clovis and Barbara Burnett and husband, Buddy of Show Low, AZ; granddaughter, Terri Sorley and husband, Ken of Clovis and their daughters, Sara, Jill and Sydney; grandsons, John Hill and his sons, Trent and Zane, all of Schuyler, NE, Mark Hill and wife, Dee and their children, Clint, Kari and Callie, all of Melrose, NM, Michael Hill and wife, Dana of Phoenix, AZ, Paul Hill and wife, Amy and their son, Colby, all of Albuquerque, and Chris Hartzog of Tucson, AZ. She was born in Mountain City, TN on March 7, 1914. Wanda Lucille Utt married Royal Clovis Bolton in Bruceville, IN on August 29, 1935. She was an accomplished musician and a partner with her husband, Clovis in God's ministry until his passing in 1984. Their ministry took them to Indiana, Illinois, Texas, New Mexico, California, Arizona and then back to New Mexico. Wanda loved her family unconditionally and was a wonderful friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all. Mrs. Bolton will be lovingly remembered at a memorial service Sunday, 1:30 p.m., in the chapel at Encino House, 412 Alvarado SE. Brown -- Margaret L. Brown, 85, died Wednesday, January 6, 1999 after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, George L. Brown. Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter, Karen P. Bennett and son-in-law, John D. Bennett of Albuquerque; and by her nephew, Anthony Richey and his wife, Judy Richey of Albuquerque. She is also survived by many caring friends. The family wishes to thank the extraordinary people at Montebello on Academy who have taken exceptionally kind and loving care of our mother for 4 1/2 years. A memorial service has taken place at the Montebello. Sunrise Society of New Mexico is serving the family of Mrs. Brown (891-8200).
