Haslett -- James Robert Haslett, Chicago area native and resident of Albuquerque since 1996, died on the 78th anniversary of his birth in Crown Point, Indiana, on January 7th, 1921. He is survived by his son, Mark Haslett of Albuquerque; and his daughter, Julie Villines of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Jim Haslett spent his first years on his father's Indiana farm, and as a boy became a knickers-clad newsie on the blustery streets of Chicago's tough South Side. He was the only Cub fan in his graduating class from St. Leo High School. He succeeded as a pinstriped salesman in Detroit and Des Moines. Jim spent his middle years as a husband, father, and prolific businessman in cities across the South and the West. He used his sonorous voice as a disc jockey for his own big band radio show. His life was as raucous as Chicago's State Street on a Saturday night, fifty years ago. His passing was as peaceful as a solitary elevated train chugging the last few miles of empty track before coming to rest in the yards at the end of the line. He will be remembered as a loving father, and a silver-tongued purveyor of the blarney from a time that has long since gone. The Haslett family are employing the services of Metropolitan Direct Burial and Cremation Center, 6th and Mountain NW.
