GALLEGOS -- Feliberto Gallegos, 91, died after a short illness on Saturday, March 3, 2007 in Albuquerque. He was born March 10, 1916 the son of Eliseo Manuel and Petria Gonzales Gallegos in Roy, New Mexico. Feliberto went on to live a very fruitful life. From life on the family ranch in De Haven, New Mexico to school in Raton and work at the Highway Department in Springer. He was always up to a challenge to the point of being one of the first from northern New Mexico to obtain his pilots license. When World War II broke out, Feliberto enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to a submarine tender stationed out of New York. He took a brief hiatus from service to marry the love of his life for 62 years, Lucille Ortiz, who joined him in New York. His life from this point on included his honorable discharge from the service and the beginning of business adventures that continued up to and until his death. Feliberto returned to New Mexico after the war and in the 50's, opened a timber mill operation in Taos, NM. The operation expanded to Albuquerque with the opening of O.K. Lumber Inc. later to become ABC Lumber & Hardware and then Paint Pot of NM. Feliberto, along with his wife and business partner, for a short period also owned the Embassy Nightclub in Tijeras Canyon and would bring in acts from Hollywood to perform. The family business changed with the times and from lumber and hardware it also included rental and commercial property acquisitions many of which are still active today. Feliberto returned to work for the State Department of Human Services in the 80's and eventually semi-retired remaining active in the family business. During this time Feliberto and his wife raised four children and made many friends. Theirs was the kind of marriage people aspire to; inseparable best friends who enjoyed each other's company, entirely devoted to each other and their children and grandchildren. Feliberto was also very active in politics, community service and the church. His speaking skills were exceptional and served him well in all of his endeavors. He augmented those skills with a very active participation in Toastmasters of NM. Though health problems plagued him for many of his last years, Feliberto remained a focused and dynamic individual who continued to move forward in spite of the obstacles placed before him. Feliberto was preceded in death by his daughter, Olivia Juarez. He is survived by his loving wife Lucille; daughter, Yolanda Sanchez; sons, Phillip Gallegos, and Anthony Gallegos and wife Barbara; grandchildren, Michael Sanchez, Joshua, David, Ashley and Paige Gallegos, and Justin and Cameron Gallegos. The Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. DAVIS -- Frank Edwin Davis, 88, devoted husband and loving father, passed away Friday, December 29, 2006, after a year long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death in 1998 by his loving wife of 57 years, Jennie Lee Davis. He is survived by his son, William B. Davis and fiancee, Janet Lyden of Albuquerque; his beloved daughter, Beverly Beebe and son-in-law, Elmer Beebe; grandsons, Timothy Beebe, Lloyd Beebe, both of Albuquerque and Stewart Beebe; granddaughters, Laura Weaver, and Shawna Gold all of West Virginia; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Frank was born in 1918 in Cimarron, NM into a northern New Mexico pioneer family, which included his father, William B. Davis, his son's namesake, who was the sheriff of Colfax County for much of the 1920s and '30s, and later a well known businessman in Springer, NM. Frank returned this Labor Day to Cimarron for Cimarron Days to see his birth place and childhood home for the last time. He and Jennie Lee called Albuquerque their home both before and after World War II, where they raised their two children, Bill and Beverly. For the past 16 months, Frank aka Poncho was a resident of La Vida Llena Life Care Center in Albuquerque, which he fondly called "the ranch." Frank served with honor in WWII and was a disabled veteran and retired Santa Fe Rail Road conductor. Having both retired in their early sixties, Frank and Jennie Lee had 17 good years of traveling the world on many trips. However, they most liked their many camping trips with their RV Club, the Manzanita Sams. Frank was a devout Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho, although he most recently attended the weekly Vespers Services at La Vida Llena during the time of his residency. In spite of his rapidly progressing disease, he spread hope, good cheer, and joy to other residents and staff alike. His family, many friends, and LVL staff will greatly miss his daily greeting of "What's cooking?" which provoked many a smile and a multitude of humorous responses. Frank's positive attitude, loving, and generous spirit as well as his courage and triumphs in overcoming his many ongoing health issues brought hope and encouragement to everyone around him. He was truly an inspiration to all that knew him and loved him. He enjoyed his final Christmas at "the ranch" surrounded by his family and friends. Give us that little wave, go with God, and at last, be in good health and peace, Daddy. We love you, and have faith that we will see you and mother again some day. Contributions may be made in his name to either the La Vida Llena Foundation, 10501 Lagrima de Oro NE, 87111, which assists other less fortunate elderly residents to pay their healthcare costs, or the American Cancer Society of Albuquerque, Attn: Lorraine West, 10501 Montgomery Blvd. NE, Suite 300, 87111. Services will be held Friday, January 5, 2007, 11:00 a.m., at Del Norte Baptist Church, 5800 Montgomery Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE 843-6333

MURPHY -- Thomas L. Murphy, 74, passed away peacefully at his Albuquerque, NM home on Monday, November 13, 2006. He was born on August 23, 1932 in Corsicana, TX and lived most of his life in Texas and New Mexico. Tom graduated from Whitesboro High School in Whitesboro, TX in 1950, where he was an outstanding athlete: starting halfback for the football team and a starting player on the basketball team. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps at the age of 17 and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving twenty-seven months in Japan, after which he was stationed at Continental Divide, NM. During his 20 year career in the Air Force, he was also stationed at Kirtland AFB in NM, where he met and married Mary Lucille Hegarty on December 26, 1957; Richards-Gebaur AFB in Missouri; Chatham AFB in New Brunswick, Canada; and Perrin AFB in Denison, TX. Following his retirement from the Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1971, he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He began his teaching career in 1973 at Tohatchi Elementary School in Tohatchi, NM, on the Navajo Nation. He also taught at Aileen Roat and Stagecoach Elementary Schools in Gallup, NM. Following his retirement from the Gallup-McKinley County Schools, he moved to Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary; their children and spouses, Colleen and Bill Tarket, John and Vicki Murphy, Thomas and Melinda Murphy, Jennifer and Brian Murphy-Dye, Teresa and Ron Dyer, Vincent and Laurajean Murphy, and Rosalie and Terry Bergamo; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. He was involved in Scouts and Little League, and taught his sons and daughters to fish, bicycle, roller-skate, and ice-skate, skating circles backwards around them until he broke his ankle showing off at the rink. He was a neighborly guy who enjoyed telling stories of his life in the Air Force and could fix anything. Cleo, his Springer Spaniel, brought him great joy. In his later years, he fed the hummingbirds that visited his yard, and honed his computer skills in order to better research his family roots. He had hoped to make it to his 50-year anniversary with Mary, was proud of all of his children, and derived great joy from his grandchildren. Pursuant to his wishes, Tom will be cremated and buried at sea. Friends and family are asked to donate children's books to the Gallup Public Library, 200 W. Aztec, Gallup, NM 87301.
