MELENDRES -- Dolores Marie Melendres, wife of the late Arthur Melendres of Albuquerque, died in her home in Albuquerque on February 17, 2008. Dolores was born in Magdalena, New Mexico in 1911, one of nine children born to Flavio Vigil and Teresa Pino Vigil. She was a graduate of the University of New Mexico, and taught in the Albuquerque Public Schools for 27 years. Dolores and Arthur are the parents of two sons, Arthur and Walter Melendres. Arthur and his wife, Diana, have made their home in Albuquerque, and Walter and his wife, Terry, live in Santa Fe. Dolores' grandchildren are Paul Melendres of Albuquerque, Fred Melendres of San Diego, CA, Dr. Lana Melendres-Groves of Albuquerque, James Melendres of San Diego, CA, Lauren Melendres-Movafaghi of Austin, TX, and Linda Melendres of New York, NY. Her great-grandchildren are Ashley, Paul, and Charlie. Dolores has many other relatives and friends who will miss her. A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, University Chapel. MURPHY -- Irma E. Murphy, 73, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2008. Irma was born February 15, 1935, the daughter of Maxwel and Hildegard Easelmeyer Koedder in Gronau, Germany. She had been a property manager for an apartment complex. Irma loved to dance, sew, cook, and travel. She is survived by her husband, Frank J. Murphy; Children, Cyndi Bradford and husband, Danny, of Rio Rancho, Sandra Latka of Escondido, CA; step-children, Kevin, Brian, and Kelley Jo, all of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Rachel Osborne of Rio Rancho, James Barnes of Rio Rancho, Devin Bradford of Rio Rancho, Aaron Latka of Escondido, CA; and three step-grandchildren, Nick, Justin, and Ryan, all of Phoenix, AZ. ARMSTRONG -- Mary Zito Armstrong, 97, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, February 14, 2008 after a brief illness. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; her parents, Pete and Angie Zito; and siblings, Lee Zito Daffer and John Zito. She is survived by four nephews and nieces; Pete Daffer and wife, Merete, of Perry GA; Jon Daffer and friend, Claire Cole, of Albuquerque; Joline Daffer Mahr and husband, Ed, of Albuquerque; and Stephanie Daffer and husband, Robert Michels, of San Francisco; great nieces, Jonna Bournias and husband, James, and children, Rachel and Aaron; Amy and Kristin Mahr, all of Albuquerque, and Sonja Daffer of Long Island, NY. Mary is also survived by four stepchildren; Glen Armstrong Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Maui, Hawaii; Barbara Blair and husband, Sam, of Los Lunas; Elizabeth Peck of Santa Fe; and Becky Montgomery of Phoenix; many special cousins. After her graduation from Albuquerque High School and Western School for Secretaries, Mary had a lengthy and successful career as an administrative assistant; in early years as a paralegal at a large law firm and later as executive secretary for Albuquerque's postmaster and Campbell Farming Corp. She was a "people person" who had a zest for life and delighted in dancing. Special thanks to Sandra Green and her staff at the Parkland Circle house for filling Mary's final years with such dignity and happiness; to Susan Clark, whose songfests were a source of joy; to roommate Lillian, who was a cherished friend; to all Mary's housemates, whose camaraderie was so important to her; and to the staff of Hospice de la Luz for devoted and loving care. SHEETS -- Howard Henry Sheets, Sr., 100, passed away at his home with his family by his side. Mr. Sheets was born on February 3, 1908 in Roswell, NM. His family moved to Albuquerque when he was in the third grade. He was a founding member of St. Therese Catholic Church. Mr. Sheets was also a founding member of the New Mexico Water Well Association and worked as a contractor for water well drilling for 75 years. He enjoyed studying history and geology. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Sheets is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth A. Sheets; and sons, Howard H. Sheets, Jr. and Robert L. Sheets. He is survived by his children, Betty Robertson, Joseph D. Sheets and his wife, Rosa, Timothy J. Sheets and his wife, Alison, Philip D. Sheets and his wife, Pamela, and Margaret R. Sheets; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren. ESTRADA -- Louis C. Estrada, 70, passed away February 14, 2008 after a long illness. He was the only child of Silverio Estrada and Genoveva Pedroncelli Estrada, who both preceded him in death. He was the sole survivor of the Estrada family. He leaves behind many extended family and friends who loved and will miss him. Louis served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, rising to the rank of Tech Sergeant. Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos NW, with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2008. FLYNN -- Clarinne Doris Flynn, 88 years, passed away February 13, 2008 at her home in Paradise Hills. She was the daughter of Homer Albert Simmons and Orpha Macell (Carr) Simmons Cummins. She was born in DeWitt, Arkansas, September 20, 1919. She was raised in the Stillwater, Oklahoma, area until her family moved to Hot Springs (Truth or Consequences), New Mexico, in 1937. She graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1938. She moved to Albuquerque with her stepfather John H. Cummins and her mother. She completed her training as a nurse and later worked at Women's Hospital on Central Avenue. Clarinne met and married Murray James Flynn and moved to Raton, New Mexico, where Murray worked for the Atchison-Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. After a divorce she married Charles Augustus Bowen. Charles was an ironworker and they moved all over the United States and he worked in Chile, South America. After the death of Charles she remarried Murray in Kansas after forty-six years. Clarinne enjoyed watching golf on television and played Canasta at the Senior Citizen Center in her area. Due to Macular Degeneration she lost her vision and stopped playing with her many longtime friends. Clarinne is survived by her daughter, Nancy Lee and her husband, Ronald J. White of Monticello, New Mexico. Her grandchildren were Korina C. White-deceased-Austin, Texas; Bronson Bowen White and his wife, Selena of Dulce, New Mexico; Preston C. White and his wife, Theresa of Polvedera, New Mexico; and Michelle Y. and her husband, Michael Wimer of North Tustin, California; Her brother, James L. Simmons; and many nieces and nephews of New Mexico; and an adopted sister, Anita Wood and her husband, Dale. Her great-grandchildren are Skylar White of San Antonio, Texas; Sierra and Crystal White of Grand Junction, Colorado; Jeremy and Jaden of Gallup, New Mexico; Brice and Megan Hollingsworth; Gunnison and Preslee Clarinne White of Polvedera, New Mexico; and McKennon G. Wimer of North Tustin, California. STRANGE -- James Stevens Strange, an Albuquerque resident for 16 years, died Sunday, February 10, 2008. He was born March 11, 1965 in College Station, TX. Jay was a Registered Nurse in the OR at University of New Mexico Hospital. Jay worked his way through nursing school by bartending at Applebee's. Jay will be missed by all who knew him. He was a good friend and an outstanding nurse. Jay is survived by his mother, Elizabeth M. Tarchala of Porter, IN; siblings, Shaun (Richard) Beecher of Martinsville, IN, Gene (Emily) Strange of Arlington, TX, Peggy (Charles) Thomas of Portage, IN, and Colleen (Jan) Olstad of Albuquerque; six nieces and nephews; aunt, Anita (Eloy) Serna of Albuquerque, uncle, Theodore (Jeanie) Stephens of Palo Alto, CA.
