ARMSTRONG -- Mary Zito Armstrong, 97, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, February 14, 2008 after a brief illness. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; her parents, Pete and Angie Zito; and siblings, Lee Zito Daffer and John Zito. She is survived by four nephews and nieces; Pete Daffer and wife, Merete, of Perry GA; Jon Daffer and friend, Claire Cole, of Albuquerque; Joline Daffer Mahr and husband, Ed, of Albuquerque; and Stephanie Daffer and husband, Robert Michels, of San Francisco; great nieces, Jonna Bournias and husband, James, and children, Rachel and Aaron; Amy and Kristin Mahr, all of Albuquerque, and Sonja Daffer of Long Island, NY. Mary is also survived by four stepchildren; Glen Armstrong Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Maui, Hawaii; Barbara Blair and husband, Sam, of Los Lunas; Elizabeth Peck of Santa Fe; and Becky Montgomery of Phoenix; many special cousins. After her graduation from Albuquerque High School and Western School for Secretaries, Mary had a lengthy and successful career as an administrative assistant; in early years as a paralegal at a large law firm and later as executive secretary for Albuquerque's postmaster and Campbell Farming Corp. She was a "people person" who had a zest for life and delighted in dancing. Special thanks to Sandra Green and her staff at the Parkland Circle house for filling Mary's final years with such dignity and happiness; to Susan Clark, whose songfests were a source of joy; to roommate Lillian, who was a cherished friend; to all Mary's housemates, whose camaraderie was so important to her; and to the staff of Hospice de la Luz for devoted and loving care. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 10:30 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper NW. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. BROTHWELL -- Patricia Brothwell, 71, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on February 16, 2008. Pat is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Richard Brothwell; son, Sam Brothwell and his wife, Heather, of Locust, New Jersey; daughter, Shirley Brothwell and her husband, Uwe Heidrich, of Arlington, Virginia; and grandchildren Brett Brothwell, Veronica Brothwell, Cassandra Brothwell, Hannah Heidrich, and Tobias Heidrich. She is also survived by her brother, Roderick Hewitt, of Vermont, and sister, Holley Ulbrich, of South Carolina. Pat was born in Winsted, Connecticut, on December 24, 1936, the first child of Dorothy and Theodore Hewitt. Pat came to Albuquerque in 1959 when Richard was stationed at Sandia Base. After many years of military travel, including more time in New Mexico, Pat and her family settled in Albuquerque permanently in 1975. Pat was the founder and President of Guitar Associates, an Albuquerque music instruction studio, where she taught classical guitar to many Albuquerque residents. Pat graduated with distinction from the University of New Mexico in 1978 with a Bachelor of Music degree and served as President of the Alumni Chapter of the College of Fine Arts. She was also a longtime member of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra chorus, and was active in many other organizations, including the Albuquerque Daylily Society and the Sanado Women's Club. She touched many lives in New Mexico, and she will be missed. The family plans to hold a Memorial Service within the next several weeks. CHENOWETH -- JoAn Lyman Chenoweth, 90, born in Redlands, CA on November 11, 1917 passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, February 13, 2008 to be with her Lord and Savior, who she faithfully served all of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband William Burrel Chenoweth in September 2004. She was a longtime resident of New Mexico since coming here from Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1948 with her husband, Burrel and eldest daughter, Marilu. When they moved here they had no money and no place to live, but they did have their faith in God and He saw them through. JoAn and Burrel were married for 66 years. She was the devoted mother of two daughters, Marilu Flaherty and Becky Gonzales and her husband, Ray; one son, Don Lee Chenoweth. She was a loving grandmother of six grandchildren, who all fondly knew her as Raroo: Dwayne Flaherty and wife, Paula, Becky Lou Biddle and husband, David, Vicki Lynn Garcia and husband, John. Tami Howes and husband, David, Danny Gonzales and wife, Lea. JoAnna Marie Gonzales, her youngest granddaughter who spent the last eight years caring for her ailing grandparents. She was the loving great-grandmother of 11 great-grandchildren: Robert, Stacey, Willy and Thomas Flaherty, Wesley and Meagan Biddle, Jacob and Jonathon Garcia, Hailey and Joshua Howes, and Alicia Gonzales; along with many numerous nieces and nephews. JoAn worked as a Nurse for Dr Louis Levin, for 17 years and retired in 1984. JoAn was always a very giving person who often gave whatever should could to anyone in need and never expected anything in return. Her kind and loving heart will be greatly missed by not only her family but all of those whose lives she touched. It's not good-bye, it's until we meet again. DEL VALLE -- Johnny Del Valle, 50, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, February 15, 2008. He is survived by his parents Pete and Clara Del Valle of Albuquerque; sisters, Inez Sisneros and husband Francisco of Belen, Janet Wiggins and husband, David of Corrales; nephews, Sterling and Jasper Wiggins; and nieces, Andrea Wichman and Rebeca Sisneros; great-nephew, Esteban Trujillo and great-niece, Anja Wichman; and a large extended family. Johnny was preceeded in death by his brothers, Anthony Del Valle and Pete Del Valle Jr. Mr. Del Valle was a hard working plumber, electrician and machinist. He was always available to help his friends and family. DEL VALLE -- Margaret Jo Del Valle, 78, died at her home on Friday, February 15, 2008 of heart failure. Born in Bayfield, Colorado to the late Austin and Mary Frost, she was the sixth of seven children. She attended Jefferson Middle School and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1947. She retired from the telephone company in December of 1984 with more than 30 years of service. Margaret and her sister, Elizabeth, were the original crew members of the Galles Balloon Team and were the biggest fans of the Balloon Fiesta. Margaret was active in the 60th Albuquerque High School class reunion. She survived heart surgery in 1976 and 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Austin Frost and Phillip Frost. She is survived by her son, John Del Valle and wife, Michele, of Santa Fe; sisters, Mary Kathryn Craig of Durango, CO, Elizabeth Lee Frost of Albuquerque; brothers, Gerald Frost and Lloyd Frost of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret fought heart disease for most of her life. EASLEY -- Kathryn A. Easley passed away in her sleep the evening of February 11, 2008 at a local residential institution. Ms. Easley was born in Gallatin, TN July 18, 1909. She was 98. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Lewis of Albuquerque, NM; her son, Dennis Key and daughter-in law, Beth Howard of Edgewood, NM; as well as six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. GAMINO -- Sofia O. Gamino, 98, a retired APS teacher, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2008, of natural causes at the "Touched by a White Dove Assisted Living" home in Albuquerque. Mrs. Gamino was born near the village of Coyote, Rio Arriba County, Territory of New Mexico, October 4, 1909. She attended high school in Albuquerque and graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1933. She taught third grade at Coronado Elementary School and special education at John Adams Junior High School for more that thirty years before retiring in 1974. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Paul R. Gamino, in 1989, and by a granddaughter, Ann M. Gamino in 1981. Mrs. Gamino is survived by her two children, Robert P. Gamino of Woodbridge, VA and Marilynn Stone of Albuquerque; grandson, Paul L. Gamino of Woodbridge, VA; and many members of her extended family. LACY -- Clare May Bolton Lacy passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 17, 2008. Born in Englewood, Colorado in 1924, Mrs. Lacy spent her childhood growing up in Wisconsin and Chicago. She graduated from Maryville College, Tennessee, where she met her former husband, Thomas Lacy. They had five children and spent almost 30 years traveling with the United States Air Force. Mrs. Lacy placed a premium on education, and installed in her children an intense love of reading and the English language. She was a willing traveler and possessed a keen sense of patriotism as well as appreciation for other cultures. She enjoyed a lifelong affiliation with the Presbyterian Church, and was most recently a member of the Kirtland AFB Protestant Chapel. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Lacy, and husband ,Joe Bunt, daughter, Dr. Diane Strollo and husband, Dr. Patrick Strollo, daughter Margaret Lacy, son, Dr. Tom Lacy, and wife, Jennifer Stowe-Lacy, son Steven K. Lacy; grandsons Patrick Strollo, Kyle Lacy, and Ryan Lacy; and granddaughters Hilary Strollo, Sara Strollo, and Kristen Lacy. LEBLANC -- ALFONSO Sergeant Major Alfonso LeBlanc, a resident of Albuquerque since 1952, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2008. Alfonso was born in 1927 in Loma Parda, NM to Guillermo LeBlanc and Elvera Ortiz LeBlanc. The family moved to Raton, NM in 1940, and Alfonso graduated from Raton High School in 1948. Alfonso married his high school sweetheart, Minnie Dominguez, on September 15, 1951. Alfonso spent his life serving his country, first as an Airman and weather observer in the Air Force from 1949 to 1953, then as an administrator in the Army Reserve from 1955 to 1983. After retirement, Alfonso enjoyed bowling, yard work, and home maintenance, but was best known for the murals he created on and around his home. Alfonso's greatest dedication, however, was to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joe and Lino LeBlanc, sister Celia Cruz, in-laws Thomas W. and Maria De Los Angeles Dominguez, brothers in law Thomas A. Dominguez Jr., Victor Grant, and John B. Martinez, and sister in law Margaret Dominguez. He is survived by his wife of 56 years and five children, Lenore Buffington and her husband Frank, Dennis LeBlanc and his wife Lita, Dianne LeBlanc, Yvette Reinsel and her husband Darryl, and Earl LeBlanc and his wife Michelle; sister Clara Lester; grandchildren Nicole and Vanessa Buffington, William Scott LeBlanc, Linda and Andrew Quinlan, Daniel, Charles, and Shawn Reinsel and his wife Andrea, and Monica Huertaz and her husband Emilio; great-grandchildren Joshua Aaron, Lily Angel, Ximon, Ezekiel, and Corban; and many nieces and nephews, and several sisters and brothers in law. LEPLEY -- Donald Eugene Lepley,Jr.,57, of Albuquerque passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2008. He was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on Septemeber 20, 1950 to Donald and Lucille Lepley. After graduating from John Marshall High School, class of 1969, Don earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in 1973 from Oklahoma State University and earned his law degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1982. He was admitted to the New Mexico Bar Association in October of the same year, and was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association in April of 1995. Don will be remembered for his love of the outdoors and was often accompanied by his companion, Winston. His passion for sports was contagious, and he was an unwavering fan of the OSU Cowboys. Go Pokes! He is survived by his wife, Kathi Lewis Lepley; their two daughters, Laura and Audrey; his stepson, Kevin; and his sister, Carol Howe; and step-mother, Mrs. Betty Lepley. MCMILLIN -- Sylvia "Ruth" McMillin, age 100, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at La Vida Llena Life Care Retirement Community where she has resided 13 years since moving to Albuquerque. She is survived by her only nephew, Wallace D. McMillin and wife, Vannette of Albuquerque; and two great-grandnieces, Dr. Barbara Apgar of Ann Arbor, MI and Laura Larson and husband, Richard of Sioux Falls, SD. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Everett, Charles and Dave McMillin. Ruth was born December 22, 1907 in Seward, OK to the late Charles and Ida May McMillin. She graduated from Guthrie High School, Guthrie, OK in 1926. Starting in 1931, Ruth assisted her father until his death in 1957 operating the pioneer business of a General Store in Seward, OK. She continued to operate the store until June of 1970, when she retired and closed the store. The business had been established before Oklahoma statehood in 1892. The McMillin family acquired the business in 1902 and when Ruth closed the business it had been in operation by the McMillin family for 68 years. Over the years, the store was a gathering place for the community and Ruth genuinely loved the people and encouraged them to pursue their passions and dreams. Many sought and felt comforted by her presence. She never lost her radiant smile or her sweet and positive nature. She shared her love, her heart and true self with her family and all of those around her. Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled. SHEETS -- Howard Henry Sheets, Sr., 100, passed away at his home with his family by his side. Mr. Sheets was born on February 3, 1908 in Roswell, NM. His family moved to Albuquerque when he was in the third grade. He was a founding member of St. Therese Catholic Church. Mr. Sheets was also a founding member of the New Mexico Water Well Association and worked as a contractor for water well drilling for 75 years. He enjoyed studying history and geology. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Sheets is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth A. Sheets; and sons, Howard H. Sheets, Jr. and Robert L. Sheets. He is survived by his children, Betty Robertson, Joseph D. Sheets and his wife, Rosa, Timothy J. Sheets and his wife, Alison, Philip D. Sheets and his wife, Pamela, and Margaret R. Sheets; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren. SOWA -- Mary Elizabeth White Sowa, 88, went to be with the Lord February 15, 2008. Mary is survived by her children, Peter Sowa, III and wife, Cynthia, of Thousand Oaks, CA, Richard Sowa and wife, Marilyn, of Washington, DC, and Dr. Polly Baird of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Rene Davis and husband, Ken, Richard M. Sowa, Ariane Sowa, Alexis Sowa, Bryn Sowa, and Bari Elizabeth Sowa; great grandchildren, Spenser, Taylor, Olivia, Devon, and Gresham; as well as many other family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Peter; and her parents, May Phillips White and Richard Earl White. Mrs. Sowa had been a member of Calvary Chapel, and was a teacher in her younger years. As well as playing bridge, Mary loved to travel with her husband, and was an avid reader. TYSON -- Robert (Rogie) Tyson, 87, of Albuquerque, died Friday, February 15, 2008 in Albuquerque at home, with his wife at his side. He was born March 24, 1920 in Wolf Point, Montana, the son of Harry and Anna Tyson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary; his son, Bill and his wife, Nancy of Farmington, NM, and their four sons, Brian and wife Christa of Pittsford, NY, Kyle and wife, Beth of Farmington, NM, Dennis and wife, Michelle of Las Vegas, NV and Zachary and wife, Nicole of Grand Prairie, TX; and three great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers, Harry Jr., Daniel, Wilmer; and sister, WilliesAnna. He married his wife, Mary on October 15, 1942 in Pasadena, CA. He was a graduate of Pasadena Junior College and became a tool and die maker. As a youth he was a member of the Pasadena Boy's Choir. He served his country in the U.S. Navy at the MOB 8 Naval Hospital on Guadalcanal. In 1950, he moved his family to Los Alamos, NM. They became charter members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where Bob sang tenor for 40 years. Bob worked for Los Alamos National Laboratory as a machinist for 38 years. They moved to Albuquerque in 1991 and became members of St. Luke Lutheran Church. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9100 Menaul NE, in Albuquerque. Cremation has taken place. Bob will be interred at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to French Mortuary, 10500 Menaul Blvd. NE in Albuquerque.
