ALLEN -- Joseph (Joe) C. Allen passed away Saturday, February 16, 2008 in Albuquerque. He was born February 9, 1950 in Amarillo, Texas to Owyhee and Etta Jeanne Allen. Joe was a District Manager for Farmers Insurance for 32 years in the Albuquerque area and was currently employed with Allstate Insurance as an Agent. He was an active member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church and taught Children's Sunday School for 30 years. Joe had a passion for sharing his love and faith in Christ. He was an avid member of the Lobo Club, a Denver Bronco Fan, and he had a great love for all animals. Joe was a great motivator, friend, a strong source of encouragement, and a devoted husband and loving father. He is survived by his wife, Terri, and her brother, Mike Iller; daughter, Teresa Jeanne (T.J.) Allen and Rudy Mendez; father, Owyhee Allen; sisters, Jayne Muse, Lynne Lamar, Cindy Martinelli, Cathy Olague, and their families. Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Etta Jeanne Allen. Services will be held Thursday, February 21, 2008, 12:00 p.m., at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris NE. CHAVEZ -- Rebecca "Becky" Chavez, 86, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2008. Her son, Joey, was at her side as she joined her husband, Joe M. Chavez. Becky was born on December 29, 1921, in Los Jarales, a village just east of Belen. Her father, Celso Sanchez, moved the family to the Barelas neighborhood on 4th St. in Albuquerque in the early 1930's to work for the Railroad, Santa Fe Shops. Becky attended Sacred Heart School then attended St. Mary High School. She met and married Jose M. Chavez after serving in the US Army during WWII. They owned and operated "The Ritz Bakery" on North 4th St., from 1960 to 1976. She is survived by her sons, Joseph his wife, Alma, and Ernest; her brother, Richard Sanchez his wife, Frances; sisters, Olivia Castillo and Susie Baca; grandchildren, Eddie Chavez and his wife, Suzanne, and Renee Chavez; great-grandchildren, Sarah Chavez, Jennifer Chavez, Brenden Chavez, and Landon Chavez. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe M. Chavez, on December 11, 2006; her sons, Ramon and Patrick in 1989. Becky was loved by many and will be missed by all her family. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 6:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. CRONK -- Richard "Dick" Allen, 64, passed away on Thursday, February, 14, 2008 at home. He is survived by his daughters, Deanna Ruff and husband, Bret, of Leeds, UT and Michelle Reyner and husband, Robert, of Albuquerque; grandson, Kylen Reyner of Albuquerque; and sister, Virginia McDaniel, of Watertown, SD. Dick was born in Chagrin Falls, OH and has resided in Albuquerque, since 1956. He graduated from Sandia High School in 1961. After becoming an electrician, he went on to own BoMur Electric. DEL VALLE -- Margaret Jo Del Valle, 78, died at her home on Friday, February 15, 2008 of heart failure. Born in Bayfield, Colorado to the late Austin and Mary Frost, she was the sixth of seven children. She attended Jefferson Middle School and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1947. She retired from the telephone company in December of 1984 with more than 30 years of service. Margaret and her sister, Elizabeth, were the original crew members of the Galles Balloon Team and were the biggest fans of the Balloon Fiesta. Margaret was active in the 60th Albuquerque High School class reunion. She survived heart surgery in 1976 and 1996. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Austin Frost and Phillip Frost. She is survived by her son, John Del Valle and wife, Michele, of Santa Fe; sisters, Mary Kathryn Craig of Durango, CO, Elizabeth Lee Frost of Albuquerque; brothers, Gerald Frost and Lloyd Frost of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret fought heart disease for most of her life. Services will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. DVORACHEK -- William Henry Dvorachek, Jr., of Placitas, New Mexico, died on February 10, 2008. He was born in Washington, D.C., March 19, 1943, to William Henry Dvoracheck and Helen Bunten Dvoracheck of Vienna, VA. He graduated from Fairfax High School, Fairfax, VA., where he played football and was a member of the Episcopal Church all his life. He developed a strong love of the West by attending Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico while in high school and spending four summers during college in the Tetons and Glacier National Park working for the National Park Service. He received his B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Virginia and his Ph.D. in Biology from the University of New Mexico. He worked at the University of New Mexico as a Research Associate in the field of molecular genetics until his death. A true environmentalist, he enjoyed nature and hiking in the mountains with his dogs. He loved New Mexico, where he lived most of his adult life. He was devoted to his family and helped them in many ways. He had a great sense of humor, had a strong intellectual curiosity, and loved to discuss current events and philosophy. He was a big fan of music, especially jazz and classical, and UNM Lobo Basketball. He had high hopes for the future of this country and the world. Survivors are his mother; three sisters; a brother; and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the UNM Chapel. A Reception will follow. ESTRADA -- Louis C. Estrada, 70, passed away February 14, 2008 after a long illness. He was the only child of Silverio Estrada and Genoveva Pedroncelli Estrada, who both preceded him in death. He was the sole survivor of the Estrada family. He leaves behind many extended family and friends who loved and will miss him. Louis served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, rising to the rank of Tech Sergeant. Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos NW, with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2008. GUNNING -- Barbara Louise Gray Gunning departed this life on Valentines Day, February 14, 2008, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, following 82 years enriched by the love of God, family, and friends. Barbara was born the youngest of four children to William Otis Gray and Lillian Haupt Gray on April 28, 1926 in Independence, Kansas. Barbara moved with her family from Independence to Winfield, Kansas during grade school, then on to Enid, Oklahoma in 1941 where she graduated from Enid High in 1944. She met James E. 'Jay' Gunning in high school, and they married on October 1, 1944, just prior to his deployment in the Navy during World War II. Upon his discharge, Barb and Jay attended the University of Oklahoma, each earning Bachelor of Accounting degrees in 1950. Following graduation, Barb and Jay returned to Enid where they shared with family the ownership and management of Gray's clothing store for the next twenty years. After the birth of their first child, Barbara stayed home to raise their children, Beverly Kay Gunning Pax, Robert James Gunning, Jeffery Jay Gunning, and Christopher Ross Gunning. Barbara was a founding member of the Chi Beta Child Study Club, and enjoyed the wide circle of friendship of its members throughout her adult life. She was proud to have served on a local education committee in the late 1950's, working to incorporate kindergarten classes into public schools in Enid. She and Jay were charter members of Christ United Methodist Church, founded in 1954, where her faith and love of God matured over the next fifty years. In 1971, after living for a year in Charlotte, North Carolina, Barbara and Jay were divorced and Barb returned to Enid with Jeff and Chris, while Beverly and Bob attended OU. Barb spent the next twenty years working, for the Garfield County Clerk's office, Davis Abstract Company, and finally the City of Enid Administrative offices, from which she retired in 1991. Barbara spent the majority of her retirement years in Enid enjoying the company of her friends, Chi Beta sisters, and her brother Jim Gray and his wife Dorothy. She made frequent trips to visit her children and grandchildren in Denver, Atlanta, Dallas, and Albuquerque, and enjoyed their visits home to Enid. Following health problems that developed in 2003, she moved to Albuquerque to be closer to her son Chris and his family. While in Albuquerque, Barb attended Monte Vista Christian Church and was a resident of Woodmark at Uptown and Manzano del Sol. Surviving immediate family members are Beverly and Fred Pax of Denver and their children, Alyson, Ryon, and Nic; her son, Bob, and his wife, Sheryl, of Atlanta and their children, Jordan and Loren; her son, Jeff, and his wife, Karen, of Dallas and their children, Kate and Emma; and her son, Chris, and his wife, Andrea, of Albuquerque and their children, Amelia and Aaron. Surviving nephews and nieces include Jim Clement, Bill Clement, Anne Clement Scott, Jean Clement Johnson, and Suzanne Stolzer Fate. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Margaret Gray Clement, James W. Gray, and Katherine Gray Stolzer, and their spouses; one nephew, George Branson Gray; and one grandchild, Oliver Gray Pax. Funeral Services will be held today, February 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Enid, with Rev. Jim Jones officiating, followed by a Family Burial Service at Memorial Park Cemetery In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the fund.

GWINN -- Carolyn K. Gwinn, 56, a resident of Belen went to be with the Lord after a long battle with breast cancer. She is preceded in death by her younger sister, Pamela Argetsinger, of Los Lunas. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Mark P. Gwinn Jr. of Belen; one daughter, Tina Dziuk, and husband, Robert Maldonado, of Albuquerque; one son, James Johnston, and wife, Jessica, of Prescott Valley, AZ; five grandchildren; Tyler, Alec, Bresia, Brooklyn, and Jay; parents, Robert and Marlene (Barton) Clover of Belen; one sister, Connie Brown, and husband, William, of Los Lunas; two brothers, Dale Clover and Bobby Clover of Belen; and many other loving aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Carolyn was born October 22, 1951 in Plainview, TX. After moving to New Mexico in 1977, she worked as a bill clerk for the Santa Fe Railroad in Belen where she met her husband. They were married July 26, 1979 in a small ceremony at the First Baptist Church in Belen. In the 1980's, Carolyn began working as a dispatcher for her father's trucking company. She enjoyed working with people, and loved the challenge that the transportation industry offered. Carolyn was baptized at Valley Christian Church in Albuquerque by Pastor David Morgan. She enjoyed the church and her new friends she met there. Some of the other things she enjoyed included participating in her children and grandchildren's activities, family functions and gatherings, traveling, collecting antiques, researching ancient Indian ruins, Amish culture, and oh yes, shopping. Carolyn was a high spirited woman who was an inspiration to her family and friends. Her vibrant personality and caring ways drew people near and afar. She instinctively understood how to bring out the best in those she worked with and those she loved. In turn, she was loved and respected by all who knew her. She is deeply cherished and will be as deeply missed. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 19, 2008, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. JACKSON -- Emma Nicole Jackson, 11, of Albuquerque, went to play and laugh and sing with Jesus on Friday, February 15, 2008. Emma is also joining her paternal grandmother, Julia Jackson; and her maternal grandparents Michael and Martha Zelaska. Emma is the treasured daughter of Bill and Becky Jackson. Emma is also survived by her grandfather, Richard Jackson; aunts, Linda Fleming and Phyllis Weybrecht; uncles, Russell Zelaska and Raymond Zelaska; and many cousins. In her much too short 11 years, Emma has carried out God's will by touching and teaching countless lives. Emma was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, attended NM School for the Visually Impaired, and Seven Bar Elementary School. The family was involved with the Cerebral Palsy Parents Association. The wonderful people that God brought to our lives through Emma are too numerous to count, but we want to thank you all for your loving, caring support throughout the years. JAMES -- William B. "Bud" James, 85, a lifetime resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, February 16, 2008. He is survived by his brother, Larry James and wife, Jackie, of Albuquerque; sisters, Nita Brewer and husband, Willie, of Albuquerque, and Norma Miller of Houston, TX; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends. Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia James; long-time companion, Ona Brown; and sisters, Mamie Harger and Ruby Pederson. He was born on September 22, 1922 in Moriarity, NM to Jack and Zora James. He attended and graduated from St. Mary's High School, where he excelled on the football team. Bud entered the United States Army during WWII and served in the Pacific Theatre. After his honorable discharge he attended the University of New Mexico. He worked, until his retirement, for Navajo Freight Lines as a dispatcher. Bud was an avid Notre Dame Football fan and followed closely the UNM Lobos in all sports. He was a great animal lover, especially the many dogs he owned through the years. Bud was a loving brother and uncle and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. KABER -- Mrs. Martha Lucy Kaber, 86, died on February 17, 2008 at Ladera Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, formerly of LaPorte. Mrs. Kaber was born July 19, 1921 in LaPorte to Rex A. and Elsie (Mellenthin) Kaber. While living in La Porte, she was employed by the U.S. Slicing Machine Co. and owned Osborn Fabrics. Upon moving to New Mexico, she worked at the University of New Mexico Public Television Station, retiring as an office manager. When living in La Porte, she was active in the Little Theater Club and directed many productions including Oklahoma, South Pacific, and Mister Roberts. She moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1978. She leaves behind her sister-in-law, Shirley Kaber; her niece, Claudia Baker, of Two Rivers, Wisconsin; and many close cousins. She is preceded by her parents and a brother, Roy Kaber. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Essling Funeral Home, with Rev. Ronald Brauer officiating. There is no Visitation. . LACY -- Clare May Bolton Lacy passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 17, 2008. Born in Englewood, Colorado in 1924, Mrs. Lacy spent her childhood growing up in Wisconsin and Chicago. She graduated from Maryville College, Tennessee, where she met her former husband, Thomas Lacy. They had five children and spent almost 30 years traveling with the United States Air Force. Mrs. Lacy placed a premium on education, and installed in her children an intense love of reading and the English language. She was a willing traveler and possessed a keen sense of patriotism as well as appreciation for other cultures. She enjoyed a lifelong affiliation with the Presbyterian Church, and was most recently a member of the Kirtland AFB Protestant Chapel. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Lacy, and husband ,Joe Bunt, daughter, Dr. Diane Strollo and husband, Dr. Patrick Strollo, daughter Margaret Lacy, son, Dr. Tom Lacy, and wife, Jennifer Stowe-Lacy, son Steven K. Lacy; grandsons Patrick Strollo, Kyle Lacy, and Ryan Lacy; and granddaughters Hilary Strollo, Sara Strollo, and Kristen Lacy. MELENDRES -- Dolores Marie Melendres, wife of the late Arthur Melendres of Albuquerque, died in her home in Albuquerque on February 17, 2008. Dolores was born in Magdalena, New Mexico in 1911, one of nine children born to Flavio Vigil and Teresa Pino Vigil. She was a graduate of the University of New Mexico, and taught in the Albuquerque Public Schools for 27 years. Dolores and Arthur are the parents of two sons, Arthur and Walter Melendres. Arthur and his wife, Diana, have made their home in Albuquerque, and Walter and his wife, Terry, live in Santa Fe. Dolores' grandchildren are Paul Melendres of Albuquerque, Fred Melendres of San Diego, CA, Dr. Lana Melendres-Groves of Albuquerque, James Melendres of San Diego, CA, Lauren Melendres-Movafaghi of Austin, TX, and Linda Melendres of New York, NY. Her great-grandchildren are Ashley, Paul, and Charlie. Dolores has many other relatives and friends who will miss her. MURPHY -- Irma E. Murphy, 73, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2008. Irma was born February 15, 1935, the daughter of Maxwel and Hildegard Easelmeyer Koedder in Gronau, Germany. She had been a property manager for an apartment complex. Irma loved to dance, sew, cook, and travel. She is survived by her husband, Frank J. PEPIN -- Allen Mitchell Pepin, a gifted artist, was offered and accepted a position from God to paint the sunrises and sunsets for Friendswood and Albuquerque on February 12th, 2008. He was 26. He has left behind his loving mom and dad, Juliana and Scott Drennan; grandparents, Ted and Pat Drennan, Richard and Vera Burken, and Maryann and Hal Pepin; his sister, Carys Drennan; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Allen was a loyal Oakland Raiders fan, loved playing poker, and would do anything for his family and friends. He will be missed in our lives. He had moved recently to Friendswood, Texas to be with his Mom and Dad as his illness progressed. SMITH -- Frederick G. Smith, a 40 year resident of Albuquerque, passed away suddenly, Monday, February 18, 2008 in Albuquerque. Fred was born in Gratiot County, MI August 25, 1931. Fred was a member of the Teamsters Union for 43 years. He worked for Yellow Freight of Albuquerque for 25 years, retiring in 1993. After retirement, Fred and Augusta traveled extensively. Fred loved restoring antique tractors and attending tractor shows. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lorna (Draper) Smith and son, Jeffrey Wayne Smith. He is survived by his wife, M. Augusta (Wight) Smith of Albuquerque. They were married June 20, 1952 in Ithaca, Michigan. His children, Larry Smith of Albuquerque, Harriette (Rakoczy) Smith of Rio Rancho, Jon and Jennifer (Rodgers) Smith of Corrales, and Rob and Kelley (Whitezell) Smith of Rio Rancho. SOWA -- Mary Elizabeth White Sowa, 88, went to be with the Lord February 15, 2008. Mary is survived by her children, Peter Sowa, III and wife, Cynthia, of Thousand Oaks, CA, Richard Sowa and wife, Marilyn, of Washington, DC, and Dr. Polly Baird of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Rene Davis and husband, Ken, Richard M. VALLEJOS -- Mrs. Adelaida (Ida) J. Vallejos, 96, was born on August 11, 1911, in Belen, New Mexico. Believing that dust we came from and dust we shall return, she was born unto eternal rest, in the presence of Our Lord, during the beautiful, reflective season of Lent. Ida passed away peacefully on Friday, February 15, 2008, with her loving family by her side. Ida grew up in Belen and married Alferes Vallejos. While their family was still young, they moved to Barstow, California with the railroad. Ida resided in Barstow for many years, upon reaching a time in her life when her health required more attention, Ida then moved back to New Mexico where she lived the remainder of her life. Ida is the beloved mother to Ramona Chavez and husband, Alfred, of Albuquerque, Gene Vallejos and wife, Peggy, of Belen, Gloria Rogers and husband, Bill, of Victorville California, Florence Urquidez and husband, Art, of Albuquerque, Mary Gutierrez and Dorothy Garcia both of Barstow, California. Ida is survived by her sisters, Ninfa Sanchez, of Belen and Cande Jaramillo of Hawthorne, Nevada; her brothers, Herman Sanchez, Lloyd Sanchez, and wife, Margaret, Albert Sanchez and wife, Lourdes, all of Belen; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and five great, great-grandchildren, who shared their love, who will receive her love through our family. Ida has many loving nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Ida was preceded in death by her parents, Enriquez Jaramillo, Papa Sanchez, and Maria San Juan Sanchez; two sisters, Aurora Vallejos-Ortega, and Fita Gabaldon; her grandchildren, Lucille Vallejos, Herman Vigil, and Robert Garcia; son in law, Gene Garcia; her great granddaughter, Rachel Rodriguez; great grandson, Adrian Telles, and her sister, Marie Abeyta. Ida was a faithful wife and a loving, hard working mother. Ida believed in living her life in the Catholic Faith. She was held with the utmost respect as the eldest sister. Ida was a good neighbor and was blessed with a good life. May God's Blessing be upon all the generations there of Adelaida J. Vallejos, Amen !! Visitation for Adelaida will be Tuesday evening, February 19, 2008, in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Deacon Robert Sanchez. Final Visitation will be Wednesday morning, February 20, 2008, at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Father Steven Schultz. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dominic Garcia, Richard Chavez, David Chavez Jr., Timothy Zamora, Jared Moncallo, and Jacob Quintana. WELCH -- Virginia Welch, 86, of Albuquerque, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2008. She was born March 28, 1921 in Derry, New Hampshire to the late Clifton and Florinda Bloomfield. She is survived by two daughters, Jackie Trotter and her husband, Rich, Cedar Park, TX; Linda York, Modesto, CA; and by a son, Ronny Reed and his wife, Paulette, Wyoming, MI; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. She moved to Albuquerque in 1972 and attended the first balloon fiesta one week later. Virginia was a fixture in the neighborhood, taking daily walks and was an inspiration to all of "us couch potatoes". She was loved by the staff and clientele of the Wine Cellar and the New China Town restaurant. She will be sadly missed by her children and her best friends Kathie Fuechsel, Ilene Marchant, and Carol Chavez. WINTER -- Jewel Juanita "Nita" Winter, 84, was called by her heavenly father on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at the Arbors of Del Rey in Las Cruces. Nita Faulkner Winter was born in Smackover, Arkansas on January 27, 1924 to Reed Faulkner and Mary (Harrison) Faulkner. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Alvin J. Winter;one son, Alvin Joe Winter and wife, Rae Barry of Omaha, NE; two daughters, Vickie Love of Deming and Sherry Rohrig and husband, Bill of Albuquerque; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
