CARGO, DAVID F., GOVERNOR 1929-2013 David Cargo, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away at the age of 84 on Friday, July 5, 2013. He was born in Dowagiac, Michigan, the eldest of three children born to Francis and Mary (Harton) Cargo. He earned his Bachelor's degree, Master of Public Administration and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan. He served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and moved to New Mexico to practice law in 1957. He served as a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives from 1963 to 1966 before being elected as the state's youngest Governor at age 37 and served two terms between 1967-1971. As governor, Cargo "Lonesome Dave," started the first state film commission in the United States which has brought millions of dollars in revenue to the state of New Mexico. Cargo established ties to Hollywood and was even asked to appear in several films. In 1969, he made a cameo appearance in a Western "The Good Guys and the Bad Guys," and in 1971 appeared in "Bunny O'Hare" with Bette Davis and Ernest Borgnine. Cargo counted as accomplishments his creation of a Human Rights Commission and many libraries throughout the State of New Mexico. Survivors include five children, Veronica, David, Patrick, Elena and Eamon; as well as his five grandchildren, Kevin, Jordan Patrick, Reese, Maddie, and Kieran. He is also survived by his brother, Gerald Cargo, and wife, Barbara, of Syracuse, NY. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Ida Jo Anaya, and brother, John Cargo. Governor Cargo will lie in state in the Rotunda of the New Mexico State Capitol in Santa Fe on Thursday, July 11, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the Rotunda at 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 12, 2013, 10:00 a.m., at Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, 131 Cathedral Pl., Santa Fe. GALLEGOS, TONY R. Age 70, a resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away in his home Friday, July 5, 2013 surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Emma; his two children: son, Lonnie and his fiancee, Beverly and daughter, Regina and husband, Jeff; grandson, James and wife, Natalie; granddaughter, Haley "Mijita"; and special god-daughter, Jessica. Also surviving him are siblings, Leroy, Gloria, Roberta and Mary and their families. He was a big man with a big heart who will be greatly missed and was loved by everyone. JONES, LAWREN D. Age 59, died July 6, 2013. He was born in Dallas, Texas on February 4, 1954 and was a resident of Albuquerque since 1957. He has been a business owner/ entrepreneur for the past 30+ years. Lawren was an active member of the racing community. He was preceded in death by his parents J.W. and Dorothy Jones. Lawren is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Christina; his son, Shawn; daughter-in-law, Colleen; his granddaughters, Caitlin, Taylor and Natalie; and grandson Tyler. KING, RICHARD H. Passed away in Albuquerque, July 5, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, Julianne; and by sisters Doris J. Robbins of Sarasota, FL and Marie Fishetti of Los Gatos, CA. He was a member of the Duke City Barbershop Chorus, a life member of Amity Lodge A.F.&A.M., and avid golfer, bowler and metal-detecting hobbyist. LOPEZ, LEE I. born on September 24, 1962 in Las Vegas N.M. and passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the age of 50. God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around him and whispered, "Come with Me". With tearful eyes we watched him suffer and saw him fade away fade away, although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best. He was preceded in death by parents, Lazaro and Martina Lopez. MARLER, AGNES MAE Agnes, known as Tootsie to her family, was born November 14, 1927 in Bell, CA. She passed away at home in Albuquerque on July 6, 2013. She died peacefully with family at her side. Agnes was predeceased by her husband Ben, father William O'Hara, mother Cleo O'Hara and sister Bunny Kelly. She is survived by her daughter Sandra of Brentwood, CA; son Dale (Susan) Yuma, AZ; son Ron (Karen), Albuquerque; daughter Patty (Richard), Albuquerque; sister Lovie; brothers Bill and Bob; grandchildren Mike, Heather, Nathan, Shanacy, Aaron, Phil, Matthew and Christopher; great-granddaughter Adallyn; numerous nieces and nephews, dear friends Tony and Maryann Sertich and Bob and Lucy Bunnell. Agnes was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved cooking, baking (especially cakes), sewing, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She always had banana bread or cookies on hand to share with everyone. Agnes was a very loving and generous soul and will be greatly missed by all who loved her. MAUK, SAMUEL CHESTER Age 77, a resident of Albuquerque for 44 years, passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 22, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 54 1/2 years, Nancy Mauk; and his daughter, Emily. He is also survived by brothers, Jim Mauk and Ted Mauk both of Missouri, and Ken Mauk of Arkansas; sisters, Monra Hammond of Washington, D.C., and Barbara Erwin of Missouri; 17 nephews and nieces; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Tim Mauk; brother, Charles Mauk and wife, Ruby of Arkansas; sisters-in-law, Connie Mauk of Missouri and Virginia Williamson of Texas; and his nephew, Tom Williamson of Arizona. Sam attended the University of Missouri and the University of Maryland and received his B.S. degree from the University of Wyoming. He received his M.S. degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology. Sam served in the USAF for 23 years as an Aeronautical and Nuclear Engineer. He then worked in civil service for 16 years at KAFB, first with the U.S. Navy, then with the Dept. of Defense. He was a member of Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 31 years and kept busy with many church activities. Additionally, he enjoyed the NMSO, bridge, bowling, live theater, Santa Fe Opera, movies, crossword puzzles, Sudoku puzzles, and much traveling. Sam was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend and will be deeply missed. Private graveside services were held Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Santa Fe National Cemetery. PLUMMER, EVELYN P. born in Red Valley, AZ., on October 4, 1915 went on a peaceful ride to the Lord on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. Her amazing grace, faith and care for her family kept her strong to continue her journey to Heaven. All those she met she inspired. She faithfully attended Legacy Church and was an active senior member of North Side Senior Center in Gallup, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, Boyd Peshlakai and Ated Nizhoni Tyler; sister Ruth; half-brother Kenneth Peshlakai; ex-husband Hugh Plummer; her children, Helen, Richard, and Rosalita. SANCHEZ, MATTHEW On July 3rd, Matthew Michael Sanchez, 14 years old, went home to be with our Heavenly Father following a tragic accident. Matthew was preceded in death by his great-grandmother Juanita Sanchez. Matthew is survived by his parents Darren and Dolores; grandparents, Maurilio and Viola Sanchez, Stanley and Mary Mirabal; his godmother, Pauline Baca and god-father/Uncle Joseph Sanchez; his great-grandparents, Jesus and Linda Sanchez; aunts, Desiree Marquez and Denise Trujillo; uncles, Isaac Marquez and Mike Trujillo; his special friend D'Andra Armijo; his best friend Mitchell Torres; his brothers from many years of YAFL's Del Norte Knights Football Teams and YAFL's Eldorado Eagles Spring Football Team, his brothers from the numerous basketball teams that he was a part of and his brothers and sisters from the track teams that he ran with. Matthew also played Little League for several years. He is survived by his great-aunts and uncles and numerous cousins. He also touched and inspired the lives of many of his schoolmates, coaches and teachers and this was evident by the amount of visitors following the accident. He was also a member of St. Bernadette's Youth Group and excited to be part of Sandia High School's Freshman Football team, where he was going to begin his freshman year as a Matador. The Pallbearers will be Mitchell Torres, Avery See, Devante Garcia, Julian Barros, Tomas Martinez and Aidan Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be his many brothers from the many teams that allowed them to become a family. Each and every one of them shared a bond with Matthew. Matthew loved dogs, sports and was a leader on the field and off the field and extremely talented with a bright future ahead of him. He was competitive, compassionate, dedicated, fun, loving, a great student, an amazing friend and a true jokester. He will be greatly missed by all that were blessed to have known him during his lifetime, but as someone who loved him very much said "this isn't goodbye, it's just see ya later." We all will continue on in joyful hope of that glorious day. SANCHEZ, JOANN (ZAMORA) Age 63, was called by God on July 5, 2013 after a life-long battle with diabetes and kidney disease. JoAnn enjoyed sewing and making baby blankets for family and friends. SEDILLO, ERLINDA Age 85, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Sunday, July 7, 2013. She is survived by her children, Ernest Sedillo Jr., Cindy Valencia and husband, Tony, Toni Galvan, JoJo Candelaria Sr. and wife, Mary, and Jr. Candelaria and wife, Marlena; 27 grandchildren and great-grandchildren including Yvette, Richard, Nadine, Anthony, Tina, Celina, Lisa, Rique, Richard Anthony, Angel, Adriana, and Joseph Jr.; brother, Eddie Torrez; and numerous relatives and friends. Erlinda was preceded in death by her parents, Santiago and Rallitos Torrez; husband, Ernesto Sedillo; daughter, Nellie Segura; and grandson, Ernesto Sedillo. SHIVER, JAMES BURNEY SR. Age 76, of Stanley, New Mexico passed away in Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, July 6, 2013. James was born November 6, 1936 in Frisco City, AL to John Jacob and Retha (Sawyer) Shiver. James has lived in New Mexico since 1965 having previously lived in Mobile, AL. He married Nancy Zavichas, his loving wife of thirty-five years, on December 9, 1977 in Albuquerque. James was an Air Force Veteran and a well-respected businessman and General Contractor. He proudly served on the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta Board of Directors for 37 years and was an avid pilot. James was preceded in death by his parents John and Retha Shiver and his brother John Jacob Shiver Jr. He is survived by his wife Nancy Shiver of Stanley; sons James Burney Shiver Jr. and his wife Jada and Jacob Brandon Shiver and his wife Clarissa both of Stanley; daughter Retha Eckard of McIntosh; sister Mavis Hardy and her husband Bob of Birmingham, AL; and five grandchildren McKinzee Shiver, James Barrett Shiver, Bristol Shiver, Brandi Eckard and Shari Eckard. THOMPSON, DONALD L., JR. Age 52, born in Chelsea, MA on November 1, 1960, passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 4, 2013. Donald was preceded in death by his father, Donald L. Thompson, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; son, Keith; daughter-in-law, Brandy; grandson, Brandyn; mother, Juanita; brother, Randy; six sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; thirty-three nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and nephews. Donald was a retired Air Force Senior Master Sergeant. He served his country for twenty-three years and is a veteran of Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield. Donald was the recipient of several awards including the Meritorious Service Medal (Second Oak Leaf Cluster). Donald is dearly loved by his wife and family, and especially by his grandson, Brandyn. Those who worked with Donald knew him as knowledgeable professional who was always friendly and helpful to others. He was a wise and humble leader with a reputation for integrity, expertise, and a positive attitude. Donald is a man of strong faith in God and God's Word. WARNER, HERBERT D. Age 84, Retired Air Force Veteran, and computer programmer for APS went to be with the Lord on July 4, 2013. Herb had just taken a vacation trip with family when he suddenly took his last trip into eternity. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Theresa of 60 years and his daughter Dianne McClure. ZIPPERIAN, H. AGNES Passed away in the early hours of 6 July 2013 of consequences of old age, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Agnes was born 10 August 1920 in Great Falls, Cascade, Montana to Joseph Frank and Kestina Caroline (Sjostrom) Steiner. She was the second of four children, all of whom preceded her in death. Agnes was married 1 April 1939 in Ft. Benton, Montana to Edmund Paul Zipperian. She and Ed were the proud parents of Joanna Paulette, Elaine Clare and Thomas Edmund Zipperian (Bobbie Mack). They raised their children in Great Falls and in Helena, Montana, and watched them graduate from college. Agnes dearly loved her three granddaughters, Megan Zipperian, Abbey (Ben) Wiltbank, and Heidi (Andrew) Harvey; and her 3 great- grandchildren, Kyndal Wiltbank, Devin Wiltbank and Ryan Harvey. They loved their Gigi, and will miss her, as will many beloved nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Bernice Steiner. Agnes graduated from Great Falls High School at age 16 and commenced a long and distinguished working career. She worked in various financial and executive positions for the Federal Housing Administration, the Building Material Dealers Association & Montana Retail Lumberman's Service, Inc., Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Governor's Office for the State of Montana. When Agnes retired in 1985, she was Clearinghouse Manager for the Montana State Office of Budget & Planning. Agnes was always an active volunteer for the Catholic Women, the Salvation Army and was a member of the Soroptimist International of America, a benevolent woman's business and professional organization for over 50 years. She was honored by the Heritage Soroptimist Club of Helena, Montana. After retiring, she provided office support for the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts in Helen and was on the Board of Directors for the Salvation Army in Helena. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Ed in 1978, after 39 years of marriage; by her parents (1965 and 1980); her sister, Alice Dea in 2010; and her brothers, Raymond Steiner in 1999 and Howard Steiner in 2000 and one sister-in-law. Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013, 5:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. The family wishes any donations to be made to any organization supporting women and women's education, or the Salvation Army.
