MOORE, JEAN G. Age 86, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed on Thursday, December 27, 2012. She is survived by son, Gordon and wife, Cara Moore of Rio Rancho, NM; daughters, Carol and husband, Victor VDuran of Chula Vista, CA, and Miriam Moore of Los Lunas, NM; brothers, Will and wife, Betty Gordon and Bob and wife, Bea Gordon; sister, Margaret Chapin; grandsons, Sean Moore, Kenneth and wife, Yasna Provine, Daniel and wife, Casey Provine; and three great-grandchildren. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Moore; father, William F. Gordon; mother, Cornelia Gordon and brother, Frank Gordon. Jean was the "Hostess with the Mostest" always assuring that those around her were well fed and had something to drink close by. She enjoyed crochet, knitting, handiwork and was quite self-reliant - always with a glue bottle and hammer in hand. She loved to entertain her bridge groups and was considered the mistress of hors d'oeuvres and weird jello things. Jean and John lived across the USA as his career as engineer took them to New Mexico, Indiana, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, Louisiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and back again to retire in New Mexico. Jean was an active member of Peralta Memorial United Methodist Church. Services will be announced at a later time. MURRAY, BETTY ALBYN Age 89, passed away on December 26, 2012, after a long illness, in Albuquerque, NM. She was born on October 7, 1923, in Detroit, MI and was raised in Grosse Pointe Park Michigan where she excelled in school, graduating a year early with honors. She worked for the National Bank of Detroit and met her late husband, Alexander Stewart Murray (who was a pilot in the British Navy) at a dance on Grosse Isle during WWII. After her marriage in 1944, she lived in England and Scotland, returning to Michigan in 1949, where she lived until her retirement in Albuquerque. She was an active member of Southminster Presbyterian Church in Taylor, MI and Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque. She loved to travel and continued to do so well into her 80's. She will also be remembered for her sense of humor and her passion for books and historic architecture. Betty is survived by her three children, Melinda (Lynda) Alexandra Cook and Constantine Foukas, Alexander Stewart Murray, Jr., and Diane Blomberg Murray, and Alan Thomas Grahame Murray and Marcelo Jara; her beloved sister-in-law, Nancy Cosby Albyn; and her great lifelong friend, Virginia Henry. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Ronald Stewart Cook and Judy Stevens Cook; Stephen Charles Cook and Janet Quintana Cook; Christine Markland and Brandon Markland; as well as seven great-grandchildren. PLACIAL, EVANGELINE H. (KIRKWOOD) Of Rio Rancho, NM , formerly of San Bernardino, California, passed away on Monday, December 24th in Rio Rancho, at the age of 80. Vangie was born in Los Angeles, California on February 1, 1932 to Eva H. and William Kirkwood. She met and married her husband Dr. Charles A. Placial on September 27th, 1952. Vangie worked as a Psychiatric Tech for the state of CA to put her husband through dental school, before returning to school herself to become an RN. Vangie worked as a Registered Nurse at San Bernardino Community Hospital in San Bernardino, California and retired in 2004 after 35 years service. After retirement, Vangie and her husband moved to Rio Rancho, NM. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this September. She was a long time member of the San Bernardino Seventh-day Adventist Church. Vangie is survived by her husband, Dr. Charles A. Placial; son Charles A. Placial III and his wife Mary of Beaumont, CA; daughter Lori Bell and her husband Don of Chaska, MN; and daughter Julie Kelly and her husband Jim of Rio Rancho, NM. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Cassandra and Charles A. Placial IV; Amanda Powers and husband Ryan, Jr.; and Bobby Collins. Also Brandon and Gretchen Bell; Lindsay Ward and husband Derek and Brendan Kelly; also survived by six great-grandchildren, Ryan III and Keylee Powers; Tristan, Ethan and Declan Ward, and Riley Kelly. Vangie was preceded in death by daughter Cheryl Delite Placial and grandson, James Ryan Kelly. Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, December 30th, at 2:00 pm at the Rio Rancho Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1351 Westside Blvd SE in Rio Rancho, NM.

PRESTWOOD, RENE J. October 18, 1920 December 21, 2012 Rene (R.J.), 92, passed away peacefully at home on December 21, 2012 on the Winter Solstice in Los Alamos, New Mexico. He is survived by his wife Valarie J. Prestwood of Los Alamos, NM; his three daughters and their husbands, Jennifer and Barry Borden of Charlotte, NC, Linda and Allan Anderson of Los Alamos, NM, Patti and Eric Cole of Santa Fe, NM; his granddaughter and her husband, Tracy Borden-Geor and Raphe Geor of Auckland, New Zealand; and his two great-grandsons, Jaden and Shaymos Geor of Auckland, New Zealand. Rene was born in San Rafael, California, grew up in Sonoma, California, and moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico in 1943 when he was recruited during World War II as a young chemist from UC Berkeley to join the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. While a student at UC Berkeley he lettered in diving. He later earned his PhD in Nuclear Chemistry at Washington University in St. Louis, returned to Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory and retired in 1984. He had a passion for skiing which took him to faraway places in Canada where he helicopter skied for many years. He was one of a group of dedicated skiers who cut and cleared the slopes of Pajarito Mountain in Los Alamos creating the ski hill that exists today. Rene also was one of the founders of the Los Alamos Swim Club. He was an avid golfer and active in the Los Alamos Light Opera. As an accomplished knitter he won County and State Fair ribbons for his sweaters, and he grew award winning roses. At Rene's request there will be no services. If a tangible form of tribute is desired, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service Hospice or Direct Relief International. A very heartfelt thank you goes out to Carolyn Linnebur, MD, Debbie Storms, RN, Mary Jordan and the wonderful people at Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service Hospice for their loving care and support of Rene. To all who knew him and his love of life, many thanks. Rene (also fondly known as R.J. and Dr. Pres) will be missed. As a husband, daddy, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend he taught us to be brave and strong and to make the most of the time we have here on Earth. He will always be deeply loved by us all. ROBERTS, BUDDY PAUL Age 62. a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on December 28, 2012. Buddy is survived by his mother, Rita Roberts; sisters, Donna Grantham and husband, Wayne, and Sandra Roberts; brothers, Alan Roberts, and Lee Roberts; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; lifelong friend, Jim Cave and wife, Chrissy. Buddy was preceded in death by his father, Don Roberts. ORALIA "SHORTY" SANDOVAL May 28, 1920 - December 25, 2012, age 92 was called to celebrate Jesus' birthday on Christmas Day. Born May 28, 1920 to Max and Telesfora Martinez in Raton, NM, she was the eldest of 4 children. She grew up, attended school and graduated in Trinidad, CO where in high school she was a baton twirler and artist. She received many awards and her art work made it to national competitions. She met and married her husband, Andrew in Trinidad, CO. Together they had eight children; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great - great -grandchildren. Shorty worked as a U.S. Postal Contractor where she delivered mail as well as love and generosity to Weston, CO and Lamy and Galisteo, NM. She always spoke kindly of the wonderful people she met throughout her career. While working, she maintained a loving and orderly household and always had warm cooked meals for her family and all who entered her home. Her famous cinnamon rolls and baked goods were bakery quality and she couldn't make enough to keep up with her family and friend's demands. In her younger years she enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling with her family. She also enjoyed sewing, and arts and crafts, which she created with perfection. There wasn't a single thing that she did not know how to do. Shorty was a beautiful woman inside and out and for all who knew her loved her dearly and she loved everyone just the same. She was very spiritual and religious and up until her last breath was praying. She will be remembered as a little but mighty lady with a heart bigger than her body. She is survived by her daughters, Anita, Margie, Lena Mae, Linda, Debra, and Jennifer; son Michael; her grandchildren; numerous family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Andrew; her parents; her son Bobby; grandchildren Roberta, Gabriel, Keith and Lawrence. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 6 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Funeral Services.
