ACOSTA -- BETTY A. Loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend went home to be with our Lord and Savior Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the age of 58. Betty adored her family and loved spending her time with them. She was proud to have worked at UNMH; being a member of Isleta Pueblo and a devout Catholic who enjoyed helping others. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Jenny Ramirez; father, Bartholo Lujan and brothers, James Lujan and Bob Lujan. APODACA -- DIMAS (PA-QUE) L. Age 73, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on April 23, 2012 at home with his loving family at his side. Mr. Apodaca is survived by children, Lisa Cordero and fiance, Paul Ortega, Tresha Montoya Apodaca, Lydia Apodaca, and Damion Apodaca; brother, Manuel Apodaca and Barbara; grandchildren, Elissa and Manuel Cordero, Felix Apodaca and Brandi, Felicia Montoya and Jerad, and Nasser Apodaca Ahamlan; great-grandchildren, Jessie, Diego, and Aryssa Apodaca. Mr. Apodaca was preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto and Paublina; sisters, Socorro Henson, Atarcia Padilla, Rafela Parra; sons, Ernest, and Dimas Apodaca. Mr. Apodaca was a member of the Catholic Church, a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, and was retired from GE after thirty-five years. Visitation will be Thursday, April 26, 2012 in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., by Gabriella Nieto. BALLARD -- JOHN G. JR. COL. USAF (RET.) Died peacefully on 18 April 2012. Colonel Ballard was born in Amarillo, TX on 9 March 1928. He attended Amarillo High School and Henry Clay High School in Lexington, KY. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated in 1951. He distinguished himself there on the football field and in track. After West Point, he joined the United States Air Force and in 1952 married Ann Thatcher of Amarillo, TX. His Air Force career as a pilot took him to Japan, Nevada, Ohio, New York, California, and New Mexico. He received a Masters degree in industrial engineering from Stanford University in 1962. Two years later he was in Vietnam. From 1964-1965 he served as Commander of Detachment 1 of the Air Commando Squadron. A decorated veteran, his many awards include the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal. When the Pentagon called, he reported for duty. While there, he earned another degree from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1972. Aerospace contractors sought him out and he helped meld the military with industry. Via Lockheed he made sure the USAF received top quality aircraft. Col. Ballard retired from the USAF in 1978. In New Mexico, he ventured into commercial real estate and also served as a consultant to Ernst and Young. He was a member of the Order of the Daedalions, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the Sandia Kiwanis Club and the Juniper Hunt Club in Florida. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed telling tall tales about Texas; his youth in Amarillo and visits to his grandparent's ranch near Fort Sumner, NM and summer properties in Colorado. He is survived by his daughter Amy of Washington, D.C.; his son John and daughter-in-law Caryn; his son William and his grandson Stanton of Albuquerque. His wife Ann died in January 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Basile; son, Michael Basile; mother, Irene Gourlay; sister, Diana Gourlay; brothers, James Gourlay and David Gourlay; ex-husband, Michael Basile. CAMPOS -- ELOY PEDRO FRANCISCO Was born October 2, 1931 in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. He passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012 in Albuquerque. Eloy honorably and proudly served his country in the US Army and in the US Navy. He graduated from the University of New Mexico and prior to becoming disabled, he thoroughly enjoyed his 23 years of work as a Vocational Counselor with the Department of Labor, assisting others in obtaining employment. Eloy enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. His varied interests included collecting assorted things he treasured. Eloy was preceded in death by his parents, Luisa and Frank Campos and by his brothers, Luis, Eloy and Frank. He is survived by his two sisters, Mary Eva Rhoads of Rio Rancho and "Sally" Luisa Ostby of Mountlake Terrace, WA; four nieces, Camilla, Angela, Rhonda and Dorothy; as well as other family members and friends who loved and will miss him. The family would like to personally thank Ray Gurule who saved Eloy's life and was there for him on numerous occasions. Visitation and Services will be held at Mt. DANOFF -- HYMAN J. Age 96, passed away on April 23, 2012. He was born to Sam and Rose Danoff in Danoffville, New Mexico and was the eldest son of five children. He was preceded in death by Bertha Danoff, his loving wife of 57 years. He is survived by his son, Michael L. Danoff and his wife, Margo of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his son, Robert Danoff and his wife, Eve of Paradise Valley, Arizona; grandsons, Troy Danoff of Phoenix, Arizona, Brett and Ryan Danoff of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Max and Sam Danoff of Paradise Valley, Arizona. He proudly served in the Army in the Philippines and Japan during World War II. Hyman was a lifelong member of Congregation Albert, where he was a member of the Men's Club and was also a volunteer. He worked as a retailer most of his life and was the general manager of Simon's Department Store for many years. Hyman was a devoted husband and father, a proud grandfather and a person who cared deeply about his family and friends. He treasured his independence. He loved spending time with his family and watching his grandsons' sporting events. He touched many people's lives, enjoyed life to the fullest extent and will be greatly missed. DELAO -- ARTHUR Age 89, died of a broken heart on April 20, 2012, three weeks after losing his beloved wife, Theresa. They were married for sixty five years. He is survived by his children Arthur Jr. and wife Zayda, Theresa DeLaO, Mike DeLaO and wife Anna, Veronica Chavez and husband Mike; thirteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Arthur was raised at the St. Anthony's Orphanage as a child along his brothers. In his youth he joined the CCC Camps and then proudly served in the U S Army during WWII. After his service in the military he studied at St. Joseph's College and later worked for the U S Post Office until he retired. Arthur loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He was an avid bowler and loved the Lakers. Arthur was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a humble man and appreciated the simple things in life. He will be greatly missed and forever live in our hearts. DIXON -- MARGERY MYERS Passed away early on Sunday, April 22, 2012. Wife to one, mother of four, grandmother to eight, aunt to twelve, sister to three, cousin to many, volunteer and friend to countless. She is already missed. Margery was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, George L. Dixon, Jr. Margery is survived by her four children, Wes Dixon and his wife Karen of Leawood, Kansas, Martha Lange and her husband Mark of Granger, Indiana, Jennifer Hamilton and her husband David of Morgan Hill, California, and Amy Dixon of Albuquerque. She has eight grandchildren, Kate, Liz, Brian, Sarah, Megan, John, Jonathan, and Lynda. Margery was born in Colorado Springs in 1930 but the family soon moved to Kansas where she and her three brothers were raised on a dry land 160 acre farm growing corn and beans. A hard but good life. She graduated from Garnett High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Kansas and was working at the University of Iowa where she met George. They married and he enlisted to take his medical residency in the U.S. Army. Over the next eleven years she and George saw the world and built a wonderful family with four children, three dogs and a parakeet. In 1966 they all settled in Albuquerque. Margery was always active in her church. For many years she was honored to serve in the ministry of Altar Guild. She also became very involved with All Faiths Receiving Home. She was an avid gardener and world traveler (always with George). She loved all kinds of music and opera and singing in the choir. The memorial service celebrating her life will be held at The Cathedral Church of St. John, at 3rd and Silver, on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 10:30 in the morning. GIBSON-WELCH -- KARA LOUISE Age 70, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away early Sunday morning. GREENFIELD -- ANN MARIE Was born in Saranac Lake, New York, two days after Christmas, 1928. She was the eldest of five children and only daughter of Elmer and Kathryn Brown. She grew up in Saranac Lake, attended secretarial college downstate and was working in the Washington, D.C. area when she met Harry F. Ware of that city. They married in 1953; together they made homes and circles friends in Washington, Cheverly, MD, Lincoln, NE and Albuquerque. This marriage produced two sons: Daniel and David. In 1994 Ann was widowed but 2004 married Paul Greenfield, a longtime friend, and the two made each other very happy. Ann re-entered the workforce late in life, working as a preparer, then office manager for H&R Block. After retiring from Block, Ann served as a volunteer tax preparer and volunteered at the Lovelace Westside Hospital. Ann traveled many places but loved family, friends and home best of all. Raised in the Presbyterian faith, she later joined the Catholic Church and remained a believer. She died on April 18 after some weeks of declining health. Ann died at home, with her husband near and by a window through which she could see a patch of the New Mexico sky she so loved. Ann is survived by husband, Paul V. Greenfield; brother, James Brown and wife Lois; sons, David Ware and wife, Marlene, Dan Ware and wife, Elizabeth; step-children, Pat and husband, Andrew D. West, Paul V. Greenfield and wife, Rhoda, John Greenfield and wife, Jamey Lathrop, and Alan Greenfield; grandchildren, Danny, Alex, Sarah Marie and Kate; plus a lifetime of friends who will remember her warmly. PANNELL -- EDDIE Age 65, departed this life on April 16, 2012 hand and hand with our Lord, to whom he came late in life. He fought a courageous but short battle to stay with his loved ones. He was born June 7, 1946 the second son of Redus Carlton Pannell and Ethel Lorene Keith. Eddie entered this life full of love and a thirst for knowledge. His earliest years were spent in Arizona where he skipped two grade levels due to his high IQ. Eddie graduated from KOFA high school in Yuma, Arizona and then attended college in California. After college he moved to Albuquerque where he married the love of his life, Joyce Aragon. The true essence of Eddie was his family. He had many things he was passionate about; teaching, hunting, shooting, racing cars just to name a few. Those who were fortunate enough to know him found a strong, kind, generous, fun loving man. He is survived by wife Joy; son, Steve; two granddaughters, Kim and Noel; brother, Carlton (Bettie); mother, Ethel Alonzo; uncle, Jack (Carolyn); aunt, Dorothy Finley; numerous nephews, cousins and close friends. PERNO -- JOSEPH Age 75, a resident of Corrales, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012 after suffering with ALS for over three years. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Annette C Perno; sons, Patrick Anthony Perno and wife, Norma of San Antonio, TX, Kevin Matthew Perno and wife, Eva of Albuquerque, NM, Jonathan Andrew Perno and life partner Lisa Brown of Corrales, NM; grandchildren, Joseph Jeremiah, Aidan Perno-Brown, and Anissa Tatiana; and many other family and friends. Mr. Perno was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Marie Louise Perno and grandparents, Alfonso and Virginia Colucci Magnifico. He served our country in the United States Army after the Korean Conflict. Joseph was a member of San Ysidro Catholic Church. He was a distinguished employee with Albuquerque Public Schools Administration as a District Coordinator, before retiring after 32 years. Mr. Perno was a graduate with the first APD reserve class volunteering his serves for 10 years. He also was a member of the Albuquerque Kiwanis Club, the Elks Lodge in Las Vegas and Albuquerque and he was instrumental helping implement the North Valley Little League as a volunteer. PREWITT -- MARY Age 79, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012. She was born October 11, 1932 in Joaquin, Texas. Mary is survived by four siblings, Avis, Mildred, Velma, Buddy, daughter Mary Burton; two sons Ron and Don Prewitt; grandson Kevin Chandler, his wife Amy; and great-grandson Aidan. Mary was dearly loved by all and will be sincerely missed. She was a long time resident of Albuquerque and Bosque Farms and truly enjoyed the people she met as she never met a stranger. She loved being a homemaker filling every day with love and kindness. Mary had a great sense of humor and always had to have the last laugh. RIEDL -- JOYCE MARIE Passed from this world on April 22, 2012 surrounded by the love of her family after a long fight with pulmonary fibrosis. Born March 18, 1940 in Worcester MA, she was preceded in death by her ten siblings. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Louis James; her children, Lance Jason and his spouse Rebecca and their four children, Penelope Ann and her three children, Louis James III and his two children and Terri Lynn Waychoff, and her spouse Patrick and three children; as well as nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. As the wife of a 33-year career Air Force NCO, she and her family set up housing in Kansas, Massachusetts, Indiana, California, New York, South Dakota as well as overseas assignments in Germany, Turkey and Guam. She was very active in Squadron and NCO Wives Clubs. She made friends everywhere she went. She could speak three languages; English, French and German. She loved cooking, was an avid reader, and managed moving our family and raising our four children traveling all over the world, instilling within them the qualities of strong moral character, honor and commitment to family and her belief in "No Guts, No Glory" to inspire each to soar. This is the legacy she's passed on-Touching everyone she's ever met with her grace and acceptance and passing many of these qualities on to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Upon retirement from the Air Force in 1988, she and her husband Louis retired to New Mexico. TAPIA -- DONACIANO (DON) Age 90, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on April 24, 2012, with his loving family at his side. Mr. Tapia is survived by his children, Mary Lou Martinez and husband, Nemesio, Bernie Tapia Sr. and wife, Suzanne, Patricia Rivera and husband, Ray, Leroy Tapia and girlfriend, Emily, and Michael Tapia and wife, Cindy; nineteen grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren. Mr. Tapia was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy; great-grandson, Ryan Gonzales; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Thalia Baca. TRUJILLO-TUROWSKI -- ELENA LOUISE Elena was received into the arms of the angels on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the age of 32. She fought a long and courageous battle with cervical cancer. Elena was born December 10, 1979 in Farmington, NM to Maria and Herman Trujillo. She attended Aztec schools and graduated from Sandia High School. She was nominated and chosen for Who's Who of American High School Students three years in a row. After graduating from high school in 1998, she attended Highlands University. Elena loved animals and was passionate about cooking. At the time of her passing, she was employed at Sitel. She lived loud, she loved hard, always had a smile on her face, and left us all too soon. Waiting to greet her with open arms were her grandparents, Frances and Al Trujillo; great-grandmother, Julianita Trujillo; grandmother, Ivy Turner and great-grandmother, Beatrice Minium; her cousin, Tama Herrera; special friends including Phillip Sena and Danny Brown; and her beloved animals, Snoopy Sam, Indico, Sheba, Tina and Wolf were also there to greet her as well. She is survived by her soulmate and love of her life, Aidan Turowski; her father, Herman Trujillo; her mother, Maria Chandler; brother, Hollis Turner; step-parents, Kenny Turner and Nancy Rhien; her maternal grandparents, Ben and Claire Di Francesco; as well as Aidan's parents, David Turowski and Abigail Westwood and his brother, Brendan. She is also survived by numerous special aunts, uncles, cousins, and her beloved cats, Puddy and Pandi. A Rosary will be recited Thursday, April 26, 2012, 7:00 p.m. at French - Wyoming Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Tennessee and Lomas, Friday, April 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. WUBKER -- JOHN Age 65, died April 14, 2012. He was a 22 year veteran of the United States Air Force and served in many locations around the world including Vietnam, Thailand, Alaska and Turkey. John is survived by Jean, his wife of 38 years; his mother-in-law Mary C. Kondos; daughter Melissa Jansen and her husband Stephen Marusich; his brother Rono (Cam Van) Wubker; his sister Glenrose Amiri; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews; and his aunt Corinne Giese of Milwaukee, WI. The family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, April 25th from 4:00 to 7:30 pm at Casa del Rey Church, 2500 Corona Dr. NW, Albuquerque, NM. ZAMORA -- AURORA M. Age 77, was born on June 11, 1934 and entered into Heaven on Monday, April 23, 2012. She was preceded in death by the love of her life of 58 years, Jimmie Zamora and her great-grandson, Fabian Espinoza. She is survived by her eight children, Maria "Lupita" Espinoza, Dimas Zamora, Toby Zamora and his wife Joann, Ruth Zamora, Eva Perez and her husband Jose, George Zamora, Liz Roman and her husband Sergio and Dolores Zamora; seventeen grandchildren; and twenty seven great-grandchildren. Aurora was the greatest wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, we could ever ask for. We love you!
