ALTOMARE -- JOSEPHINE E. Died Monday, June 6, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaspare (Al) Altomare. Josephine is survived by her four children: daughter, Joan Camana and her husband, Peter of San Diego, CA, grandchildren, Eric and Joseph Stewart and great-grandchildren, Mia Elena and Gianna Josephine Stewart; daughter, Sondra LeGrand and husband, Roger of La Crosse, WI and granddaughters, Julia and Erica LeGrand; son, Ralph Altomare and wife, Debbie of Bellevue, WA and grandchildren, Jacob, Jessica, John Taylor and David; and son, Michael Altomare and grandson, Neil. Family was most important to Josephine and she dedicated herself to fiercely supporting and caring for all of those whom she loved dearly. All who knew her were taken in by her humility, selflessness, and loving, caring ways. CASTILLO -- LUCILLE Born November 23, 1920 to Juan Rey and Rebecca (Chavez) Gabaldon in Belen, New Mexico passed away on Monday, June 6, 2011. Lucille was a cheerful, fun, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. Lucille worked for Dr. Loren Shields for several years, then was the secretary at St. Mary Elementary School for over twenty years. Following her time at St. Mary's, she became an avid collector of antiques opening and operating her own business at the Classic Century Square on Central near Nob Hill for over 15 years. Over the years, Lucille kept in touch with many of the students from St. Mary's and made many new friends in her antique business and travels. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; son, Christopher and granddaughter, Jennifer. She is survived by her children, Rebecca Sandoval and husband, Deacon George of Albuquerque; Arthur (Larry) Castillo and wife, Sue of Los Lunas; Mary Therese Marquez and husband David of Georgia; former daughter-in-law, Debbie Rugg; grandchildren: Nichole and husband, Chip; Christa; Paul and wife, Ladonna; Geoff and wife Kathleen; Christopher and wife Melissa; and John Adams; great-grandchildren: Tyler, Connor, Andres, Colin and Lorenzo; sister, Julia Silva and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. DICKSON -- MICHAEL DAVID We honor the life of Michael Dickson, Born June 17,1957- cherished husband,son,and father, who passed into eternal life on June 1, 2011. Born in Milwaukee, WI, Mike graduated from Eldorado High School in Albuquerque, NM in 1975 and has been living in San Diego and working in cable TV construction for the last 25 years. Mike is survived by his wife Dori and sons Nolan, Justin and Travis of San Diego; parents Gordon and Henrietta Dickson; sister Debbie and brothers Steve, Jim, Mark {and families} of Albuquerque. Although sadness consumes his family and many close friends who love and will miss him, we are empowered by the strength of his character and his kindness that will forever be in our hearts. A celebration of his life will take place in San Diego on June 17, 2011. ERTEL -- BEREDA A long-time resident of Albuquerque, went to be with her Lord on June 6, 2011. Bereda was a loving wife and mother who had a passion for cooking, sewing, and crafts of all types. One of her greatest pleasures in life was sharing one of her handmade gifts of love with someone she cared for and in many cases, those in need. She was loved dearly and will be greatly missed. Bereda is survived by her husband of 33 years, Myron Ertel; son, Joseph Pleaska; daughter, Renee and husband Jerry Pogan; son, James Blanton and wife Susan. She also leaves eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. HARRINGTON -- JOHN T. PH.D Age 49, a resident of Rociada for nearly twenty years and former resident of Las Cruces, NM passed away on Monday, June 6, 2011. He was born on May 11, 1962 in Nashville, Tennessee to Francis Eugene Harrington and Mary Adelaide Kelly-Harrington. He was united in marriage on April 20, 1991 in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Anne Marie Wagner. He received a BS in Forestry from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in May 1985, in June 1987 he received his M.S. in Forestry from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University and in May 1991 received a Ph.D. in Tree Physiology from New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM. Since 1990 he has been at New Mexico State University's Mora Research Center and was a Professor of Tree Physiology as well as Superintendent of the Research Center. In 2006 he accepted a sabbatical appointment with the USDA Forest Service- Research Policy Analysis group in Washington, DC for six months. In late 2010 he went to Afghanistan as part of NMSU's AWATT Program to work with US AID, the US Military and the Afghan government to restore Afghanistan's watersheds and forests. He also served on numerous Federal, State and Regional Committees including: New Mexico Tree Farm, New Mexico Forest Stewardship, New Mexico Forest Lands Enhancement Committee; WCC-21 -Restoration Ecology Working Group, USFS Collaborative Forest Restoration Program, Four Corners Partnership, and New Mexico Watershed Restoration Committee, Program Chairman for the 2010 Society of American Foresters National Convention, Editor of New Mexico Tree Farm Newsletter. He was a member of the Society of American Foresters and numerous other professional organizations and he was an SAF Fellow and Certified Forester. John was an Avid Ultra Marathoner, he had completed over one hundred Marathons and ultra Marathons including Dublin, New York City, Boston, Chicago and many Leadville, Colorado events. He loved the outdoors, was respected by everyone he worked with from federal policy makers to local land owners. He was a former member of Sapello/Rociada Volunteer Fire Company and of San Miguel Search and Rescue. He is survived by his wife: Anne M. Wagner of the family home in Rociada, NM; parents: Francis Eugene and Mary Harrington of Indianapolis, Indiana; sisters: Maureen Harrington of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Kathy Keough and husband Dennis of Berwyn, PA: brothers: Joe Harrington and wife Diane of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Bob Harrington and wife Connie of Greensville, Wisconsin; other survivors include: in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many, many close friends. HARRIS -- JAMES ANDREW Was born in Albuquerque, NM on May 27, 1963 and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 30, 2011 following a tragic vehicle accident. Jim was 48 years old and lived in Thoreau, NM at the time of his death. He lived in Albuquerque until he was 15 years old and then the family moved to Farmington, NM where he graduated from Farmington High School and then attended the University of New Mexico. Jim had many hobbies. He was a fine musician and was an expert banjo picker and played the guitar. He liked cross country skiing and backpacking which included a 70 mile trek in the Weminuche Wilderness Area in Colorado. He was also a very good cook and had a great sense of humor and could always make us laugh. Jim is survived by his parents, Andy and Barbara Harris; his sisters, Sheryl Templeton and husband, Don and Dana Van Doren and husband, Dave; aunt, Shirley Donahue; niece, Erin O Niell; nephews, Bryan O Neill and Brad and Kyle Van Doren; and nine cousins including Wayne Harris and wife, Kathy who also live in Thoreau, NM. Jim had many friends that he loved to play music and backpack with. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at French - Wyoming Chapel. HAWK -- ROBERT M. Age 86, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2011. He was born in Purcell, OK on November 13, 1924 to Lemuel L. Hawk and Grace Belle Pace. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hawk of Albuquerque; brother, Frank Hawk of Mildred, TX; sister-in-law, Sally Bryan; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Hawk moved to Albuquerque in 1946, and he graduated from the University of New Mexico with a B.A. He was retired from Sandia National Laboratories and served the community of Albuquerque and the State of New Mexico in many ways. He served for fourteen years as a New Mexico State House Representative; he served six years as a Bernalillo County Commissioner, four years on the Board of New Mexico State Psychiatric Hospital, member of the Board of Bernalillo County Mental Health Center, member of the Board of UNM Hospital, and member of the Advisory Board of Sequoyah Adolescent Treatment Center. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, June 11, 2011, 1:00 p.m., at Central United Methodist, 201 University Blvd. NE, with Reverend James E. HONEYCUTT -- ESTHER FIRLIE Age 94, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2011. Esther was a long-time resident of Albuquerque, NM. Two years ago she moved to Kirkland, Washington where her youngest daughter, Betsy, and family live. "Es" was a gracious lady with a contagious smile who made everyone she came in contact with feel special and loved. Always the optimist, Esther loved life and believed in living in the present...making each day better than before. Her love of music and the arts was a natural part of her existence and a passion easily shared with others throughout her life. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Major General John T. Honeycutt; brother, William J. Stephens and wife Elizabeth; and mother and father, Dr. & Mrs. W. J. Stephens. She is survived by her children and stepchildren, Katherine and husband, Hoyt Burnette, Mary Ruth and husband, Dr. Bruce Stafford, Betsy and husband, Harry Schanning, Victor Firlie, Mary Honeycutt, and John Honeycutt. NICHOLS -- KEVIN EUGENE Age 31, born in Taos, N.M., presently residing in Albuquerque, N.M., died as a result of a motorcycle accident on Sunday, June 5, 2011 in Alb, NM. While living in Santa Fe and Alb he met and made many lifelong friends. He was a man with many passions and talents. His natural ability as an artist varied from painting southwest scenes to tattooing, and garment designing. He enjoyed traveling, which was compatible with his career as a heavy transport operator. His other passion was motorcycles. He was an active member of the Bandido motorcycle club. He was a caring man devoted to his loving mother and children. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Delia and Justino Sisneros, Gerald Nichols Sr., Gloria Martinez (aunt), Sonny Nichols (uncle), great uncle Felix Guara, and great aunt Amelia Rivera. He is survived by his mother Liz Nichols-Medina (Mike) and father Gerald Nichols (Louella), girlfriend Jamie Roberts and their daughter Elena; his ex-wife Kathleen Defnet and their children Jeremiah and Samantha; sisters Kristin Nichols, Carissa Clower(David), and Kaitlyn Nichols; stepbrothers, Isaac (Raeanne daughter) and Arron Medina; stepsister Amber Medina; his grandmother Susie Montano (Adonais); uncles: John Gonzales (Teddy), Frank Nichols (Jennifer), aunt: Linda Vigil (Paul); in-laws, Kathleen and Charlie Beecham; brother-in-law Josh Roberts and sister-in-law Jessie Roberts. He is also survived by in-laws: Joe, Patsy, Michelle, Sarah, and Paul Defnet. On his mother's side, he is survived by Aunt Alice (James) Sandoval, Aunt Margie Guara, Connie (Richard) Chavez, Naomi Rivera, Rita Mondragon, Tilda Rivera and Stephanie Rivera whom he considered as aunts. Special cousins whom he considered his brothers and sisters Shawn and Shannon Sandoval, Barbara Rivera, Rachel Mondragon, David M. Chavez, Anna Chavez, Chuck Chavez, Len Rivera, Ricky Rivera, and Tomas Vigil. He is also survived by his godparents Manuel Barela and Peggy Salazar, his childhood friend, Tomas Vigil, and his Bandido Brothers. Cremation has taken place. Rosary will be recited at Friday, June 10, 2011 at 7 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos. ROBINSON -- DENIS Age 87, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011. He was born February 11, 1924 in West Hartlepool, England and has been a resident of Albuquerque for over 30 years. Denis was preceded in death by his wife, Natalie. He is survived by his son, Denis Wilson Robinson and wife Nancy; daughter, Alexandra Kiska and husband Patrick; sister, Joan Williams; grandchildren, Jennifer Robinson Sharman and husband Jack, Andrew Robinson and Wife Margrethe, Robin Kiska and wife Megan, and Dustin Kiska; great-grandchildren, Arianwen and Katerina Sharman, Odin Robinson and Axel Kiska. Denis served as a British Officer in the Indian Army where he met Natalie Bushanan who was in the American Red Cross. He was actively involved in international and local Rotary Clubs, was a master gardener, and active member of Christ the King Anglican Church. As a food technologist he worked for CPC International, Bueno Foods, El Pinto, 5 Sandoval Co Pueblos, Sandoval Co Extention, and NM State University. Denis also served as a volunteer in numerous organizations including Presbyterian Hospice and NM State Senior Olympics. Services will be held at Christ the King Anglican Church, 5300 2nd St NW, (345-1450), Saturday, June 11, at 10:30 am. SECREST -- NORMA R. Died on Tuesday, June, 2011. She was born on January 13, 1925 in Middletown, OH to Cyril Percy Morgan and Vella Schultz Morgan. She received her nursing degree from Christ School of Nursing in Cincinnati, OH. In 1945, while working as a nurse in Cincinnati, she met a young medical student, Robert Rae Secrest, Sr., who became her husband, and life long companion for 56 years, until his death in 2002. Dr. Secrest was a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force and they moved from base to base. In 1955 he went to work at Lovelace Clinic and they settled in Albuquerque where they raised their children. Included in her many activities was volunteering as a nurse at the Girl Scout Camp. In 1985 at the age of 60, she received a Masters in Special Education from UNM and went to teach at Ernie Pyle Middle School. She joked that when most of her peers were retiring she was starting a new career. She later taught remedial English at UNM Valencia campus until she was 82. She loved teaching returning students and was proud she could help them reach a level where they could begin taking college classes. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law,Cyril Percy and Sharon Morgan of Pullman, WA and their sons, Patrick, Sean and Matthew; her sons, Robert R. Secrest, Jr. (Charlotte Mary Toulouse), Richard M. Secrest (Jennifer), Joseph E. Secrest (Brandi); her daughters, Sandra Hatch (Joseph), and Victoria Soto (Humberto); her ten grandchildren, Trent Morgan Toulouse, Robert E. Hatch, William Rae Hatch, Melissa, Elizabeth, Nathan, Sophia, Mariah, Ethan and Zoey Secrest; and four great-grandchildren, Andres, Antonio, Journey and Faith. A viewing will be held at French - University, from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2011. Immediately followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE. SOUMPHOLPHAKDY -- OUDOM On Monday, May 23, 2011, Oudom Soumpholphakdy, beloved husband, father, and soon to be grandfather passed away peacefully at his home in Albuquerque with family and friends by his side. Oudom was preceded in death by his father and mother, Thitthom and Pheua Soumpholphakdy; sisters, Kheung Kham and Ninthalangsouk; and brother, KhouKham. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kham Soumpholphakdy; sons, Oudalom, Ouradom, Rex Ourasavanh and wife, Michelle, and Rick Ouraphet Soumpholphakdy; and many dear nieces and nephews. Oudom was born in Sakueng, Laos, the seventh of nine children born of Thitthom and Pheua Soumpholphakdy. As a young man Oudom served as a Lieutenant in the Laos army. He immigrated to the United States in 1979 and settled in Albuquerque, NM. At the time of his death he was retired after working 23 years at Intel Corporation. As a past president of the Albuquerque Lao Association, Oudom was a leader in the community and was passionate about helping others. He did all that he could to serve the Laotian community near and far. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching all facets of sports especially football, soccer, and baseball, and when asked who he was rooting for, the answer always was the "winner". He enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. He also loved to garden and always had something growing whether it be inside or outside. Oudom was the cherished patriarch of our family and he will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives he touched. A viewing will be on Friday, June 10, 2011 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at French- Lomas Chapel. STEWART -- ELAINE T. Age 38, of Albuquerque, NM, died in a drowning accident in Montezuma Hot Springs near Las Vegas, NM, on June 3, 2011. Elaine worked as a Registered Nurse at University of New Mexico Hospital in the Outpatient Treatment Center for five years. Elaine accomplished many things in her short life. She earned a B.A. degree in psychology from Wesley College, Dover, DE, where her father was president. She was proudly pinned as an RN at Santa Fe Community College, when she received her Associate Diploma in Nursing, December 2004. Her first two years as an RN, she worked at Presbyterian Hospital. Born on June 28, 1972, in Trenton, NJ, Elaine brightened this world with her singing, her beautiful, ready smile, her contagious laugh and great sense of humor. She had a deep compassion for people and made her career in caring for others. Elaine was also an avid animal lover and adored her rescued fur babies: her past and present dogs Marley, Zoe, Bailey and Chaco as well as her kitties, Blue and Luna. Having lived in eight states, traveling to many others and to Europe twice, Elaine bonded with New Mexico and its people. And she loved those she called family and took care of at the UNMH clinic. Elaine's immediate family lives in Coldwater, MI; her mother, Beverly Stewart-Rehm and husband, Mike Rehm; her brother, Reed M. Stewart and wife Kristie Stewart; and her young and beloved nephew Lucas and niece Alexandra. A memorial celebration of Elaine's life will be held at University Hospital in Room BBRP1500 at 5:30 p.m.,Friday, June 10, 2011. Elaine's cremated body will be buried near her father's in Brazil, IN. STRICKLAND -- SALLY ANN Born June 12, 1965 in Adelaide, South Australia, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 7, 2011. She was preceded in death by her sister, Susan Jane. Sally's life, although often troubled, was also marked by many personal accomplishments; always a kind and caring disposition towards all others. THORNTON -- RUBY HANNAH Age 91, was born in Auburn, NE on April 19, 1920 and passed away May 20, 2011. She was the eldest of four children born to Earl Redding and Irene Streit Redding. She taught early Elementary for 35 years in various parts of Nebraska, ending in Omaha. She showed continued love for children through the Linus Blanket Project; having knitted over 200 blankets for the project. She was an avid traveler, and visited all 50 states. She loved animals, especially cats. She was preceded in death by her son John T. Hannah; and sister Mary Frances Farver. She is survived by her brothers E. Lloyd Redding and wife Bonnie, William Redding and wife Edy; brother in-law Oliver (Pete) Farver; her daughter, Mary Lynne Mathews and son in-law Bob; Her grandson, Eric L. Mathews and wife Teresa; granddaughter Susan L. Mathews; great-grandsons, Lucas and Tyler Mathews; Also Miss Kitty, her cat. Services will take place at Asbury United Methodist Church, 10000 Candelaria Rd. NE at 10:30 a.m., on June 11th, 2011. WELLINGTON -- CHARLES E. Of Rio Rancho died June 3, 2011. Born 12-19-1925 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was a school administrator in Iowa, France, Illinois, Colorado, Oregon, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. Survived by wife Lael; children Jennifer Wellington of Santa Fe and Greg Wellington (wife Barbara) of Folsom, California; and grandchildren, Micah Miller, Pierre Miller, Kent Wellington and Laura Wellington. In retirement Charles served as a helpful, friendly handyman to all in the community. A Memorial Service will be held June 18, 2011 at High Desert United Methodist Church, 10:30 a.m.
